Shut off screen without shutting down accelerometer in Touch

Due to Apple firmware limitations in the 2G iPod Touch, it is not possible to shut down the Touch screen and keep the accelerometer running, so running the Sleep Cycle application on the iPod Touch causes the screen to stay on all night and become very warm
Apple please please could you change the Touch firmware to support shutting off the screen without shutting down the accelerometer so that Sleep Cycle can be run on the Touch like it now runs on the 3G and 3GS iPhone.
This would open this excellent little application to the whole Touch market segment, making the developers very happy and allowing me to get up in the morning.

  • My ibook G4 shuts off randomly without warning when it's plugged in.

I have a ibook G4 (late 2004) running leopard. I recently (a month or so) installed a new HD, since original finally failed. I have been running my ibook on power only for 3 years, since my battery stopped charging.
In the last few days my computer has started shutting off completely without a pattern or warning. I hear a single click as it shuts off.
This began when I was using hulu and wanted to plug the video adapter in as a larger display on my TV. In order to do this, I closed the ibook (putting it to sleep) while on hulu. Plugged in the video adapter and opened the ibook. It seemed that my computer had shut off suddenly when I opened to awaken it. I held down the power button to hard reset it, not knowing if the comp. was off or not. A low-long beep came from within the computer and the sleep button blinked very quickly about 8 times or so(too fast to count).
Ever since then I can't trust it to stay on for any amount of time. Sometimes it will shut off as it is booting. Other times it may run for several hours then suddenly shut off.
I am wondering if some other part of this ibook is dying or if I created an issue with the video adapter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jason

  • Turn off display without shutting down?

I'm downloading a pretty large update (nearly 4GBs @ 190 hours estimated time) to my office computer (a Mac Pro w/ large display) and I would like to shut off the screen display, yet leave the computer on over the weekend. Reason being is that I am the only Mac in the entire building and well...lots of curious,  lookie-loos like to salivate over my machine. Usually, I simply Log Out every night.

4GB should not be taking 190 hours to download. That is about the size of the 10.7 download, and if you get lucky that should be done in an hour.
You can turn off your display whenever you please, with impunity. If you have multiple displays, you may find all your open windows on the "last display standing" when you resume.

Are you referring to a MacBook Pro? I have the tower.
As far as the time to download...I  noticed we were having connectivity/transmission issues before I left the office. Not sure why.
So Grant, are you saying that I can put the computer to sleep and it will still download the files? I have to go back into the office tomorrow so I'll check to see if transmission improved.
    Thanks all!

  • Macbook Pro suddenly shuts off. screen goes black and won't turn off till after a few hours.

    Hi everyone!
So I've had this problem from my macbook since months ago. It sometimes just shuts off by itself, the screen turning black and won't turn on until like after a few hours (sometimes a day, but sometimes you could also immediately open it just like that.)
When it shuts off and you plug the adapter it is still charging, the lights on the side of the macbook book still lights up just fine if you press the button on the side. the only problem is that it wont open until after a few minutes, hours or days (very unpredictable) (also tapping the macbook helps, I dont know if it "really" helps or not, but it works sometimes.) But when it open it will be working fine until another couple of weeks or 3 or a month (again unpredictable)
I dont know what's wrong with my laptop, please help me. It would be greatly appreciated! thank you so much in advance!

Hold the power button down for 10+ seconds.  Then bring the MBP to an Apple store for an evaluation.
    Ciao.

  • MBP shuts off when battery goes down to ~20%

Recently, my MBP started shutting off when the battery level got to 20%. No low battery warning, just shuts off like it got to 0%. I plug it in, turn it on, it boots and battery level is right around 20%.

I took it to the Apple store and the "genious" told me that cycle count is too high and they can't replace the battery under warranty. He said I use it with a battery too much. Last time I checked, I bought a portable computer, it has a battery for a purpose. When I work at a client's office I don't always have it plugged in. What does actually constitute a "cycle"? I've had the laptop for 1 year and 2 months.

Ok, so I'll tell you guys my experience with the genius bar at the Apple Store.
It was about 2:20 pm today, I walked up to the genius bar and waited for someone to come to me -- which took all of 30 seconds. So he asked what my reason for visiting was, and I told him the story about how my battery would just cut off at 30%. He then asked for my computer, so I reached into my laptop bag, pulled it out, and placed it in front of him. It was in sleep mode so we just opened it up to get started; he went to the "About this Mac" from the Apple button in the menu bar and took a look at my serial number. After about 2 minutes he said "I'll be right back." I waited for no longer than two minutes, and he came out from the back with a box in hand. He then flipped my computer over and took my battery off, opened the box, pulled out a new battery and placed it in my computer. Then, all that I had left to do was sign for it, and I was on my way in no more than 10 minutes.
What I find interesting is that he didn't even look at how many "cycles" my battery had; although, it probably wouldn't have made much difference as it was only at 17. At any rate, I asked him if there was a set of defective batteries out there -- including mine -- and basically he told me that yes, there was. So I guess since he looked at my computers serial number, his computer told me that mine was one of the affected ones.
Anyways, bottom line was it was very easy to do to get it replaced, with zero hassle. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with how the Apple Store and genius bar both opperate, much better than dealing with stores like Best Buy and the like -- in my opinion anyways.
    Good luck everyone.

how can i get my hp office jet 4500 g-510-g-m  to shut off when my computer shuts down.  i manually turn it off but some times forget

    Hello Caddilacman,
I understand you want to have the printer to shut off when you turn the computer off.
Well I checked out the manual for your printer and I didn't  see the option listed there, so I consulted with a printer expert and they explained to me this printer doesn't have that function. So you would have to manually shut it off with power button the way you’re doing it now.
Here is the link for the user guide for the printer to show any other questions that you might have.

  • How to get connect to itunes logo off screen without restoring it

I have an iphone and last night I tried to update it. When I woke up it had a connect to itunes logo on the screen. I tried turning it on and off again, but that didn't work. I would try to restore it but I have never connected my iphone to itunes so it won't recognize it and none of my music or apps or photos are backed up. Is there any way to get the connect to itunes logo off the screen without restoring it so I can just go back to using my phone? Thanks!

You should back up your phone on a regular basis. That way you will avoid headaches like the one now.
Your iPhone is in recovery mode. I belive there is not option but to restore it.

  • IPhone keeps shutting off, iPhone keeps shutting off

I am having trouble with my iPhone shutting off on its own. When it does this it is takes a long time for it to come back on. Anyone else having these problems?

I was having the same problem on a brand new iPhone 4S, even after I restored the phone and downloaded the newest version of iOS6.
It turns out that the case I purchased at the Apple store was putting pressure on the top button and shutting it off.  The only way I could turn it back on was to press and hold both the top button and the round "home" button simultaneously for about 7 seconds.
As soon as I took the case off of the phone, the problem stopped.
If your phone does not have a case and you have restored the phone to factory settings, etc., then you may have a hardware issue that would require service.

  • Om Mac 10.8 firefox window keeps moving off screen without me touching anything so I cant accomplish anything.

I cant use firefox. It slides by itself of screen and I need to go to dock to bring it back. It happens every few minutes and sometimes even more frequently. While is off screen I am able to enter information into it. So it satays open but invisible

Are you accidentally hitting the F11 key? That will cause any open window to slide off the screen.

  • Sattellite shuts off, screen starts blinking, and many other problems

    Hello
About a year ago i bought a Toshiba Sattellite L855-149. And the thing has been nothing but problems and inconveniences. Not what you'd espect for an 800€ Laptop.
First time i tried to connect to wireless network, blue screen. Happenned a huge ammount of times.
It constantly freezes and goes into a state of "coma". But that's not what I'm here for.
So, I was playing (NFS ProStreet, a game a computer like this should run without even trying), and it decided to shut down. Not in a "normal" way, it just went off as if the power source had been removed, evenb though it didn't. But, this had happened many times before, so I just did what I always did, waited a couple of minutes and, when the power source lightn lit up, I started it. However, instead of starting normally like it always did, it said something about an update, and then the screen just kept turning on and off, like blinking. A couple of seconds lit (altough it didnt show eãnything- just a black screen) and a couple of seconds off. Now everytime i try to turn it on, the Toshiba screen shows up for a bit, and goes back to flashing.
Another thing that I can't understand, is that i can't access the BIOS. I've tried before, with all the F's and with the Fn+F keys, but nothing, it just ignored me.
I am really mad with this laptop, and with toshiba in general. I don't know if someone else had this problem or not, but i think it is unnacceptable for an 800€ Laptop, that was ALWAYS treated with extra care, to give me problems like this.
If someone could help, I would very much apreciate it. It still has a warranty (as I said, it's barely 1 year old), but I wanted to avoid taking it where I bought it for repairs, as that could take months, or even years, and probably wouldnt solve anything (like it happenned before to my father.
    Thank you in advance
PS: I DO have a cooler, and the computer was barely hot, so I don't know what caused it to shut down so abruptly.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.
If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

  • Several times over the last few days while on safari my iPad spontaneously shuts off screen goes dark then goes to home screen what's going on and how do I fix it when I look at settings diagnostics it says that there is low memory ?

Safari crashes several times while on pinterest, screen goes black then goes to home screen when I start safari again it keeps doing the same thing.  I checked the diagnostics page and there are several references stating low memory yet when I check the memory on the iPad there is plenty of memory  help please

The memory that is low is the processor memory, not the overall storage space.  Next time, before you go to that site, double tap the home button to see the task bar.  You will see the list of apps siting in the recently used list.  Most of them are not doing anything, but some of them are using up memory.  Touch and hold any one of them until they jiggle, then close them all off by touching the minus sign.
Do that every so often to help the pad use it's memory wisely.
Some apps, and browser pages use a lot of memory, and do not give it back easily, causing what sis happening to you.
You can also get a similar result by rebooting.  Press and hold the home and sleep buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider.
