Shutting down a Coherence node via JMX?

I retrieved a Coherence node using "Coherence:type=Node,nodeId=<whatever>", and then invoke the shutdown method (see attachment). The node seems to shutdown fine (I don't see it anymore in the Agent View), but after a few seconds, it came back (refreshing the Agent View and I see it again). Sometimes it comes back with a different nodeId.
I'm confused as to what the shutdown() method is doing.
Is there anything equivalent to calling Cluster.shutdown() for a particular node? Thanks.<br><br> <b> Attachment: </b><br>CoherenceJMX.JPG <br> (*To use this attachment you will need to rename 313.bin to CoherenceJMX.JPG after the download is complete.)

Thanks Dimitri, I actually didn't see your note until now. I took a different approach and created a rather trivial extension of DefaultCacheServer:
public class PCSDefaultCacheServer extends DefaultCacheServer {
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Registering Custom Management Extensions...");
Registry registry = CacheFactory.ensureCluster().getManagement();
String name = registry.ensureGlobalName("type=Node,name=CustomManagement");
CoherenceCustomManagementMBean bean = new CoherenceCustomManagement();
registry.register(name, bean);
System.out.println("Done.");
DefaultCacheServer.main(args);
The CoherenceCustomManagement MBean registered above exposes two methods:
* shutdown() - which simply shutdown all Coherence services
* stop() - which is the above + System.exit to terminate the JVM
Regardless, your alternative is very helpful, thank you!

    Can't get MAC to shut down and start up via the schedule button in system preferences energy saver. Is there another way?

    Try this to start:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Finder crashes when remote PC is shut down while still connected via SMB

    If I'm connected to my Windows machine via SMB, Finder crashes/freezes whenever said Windows machine for example is suddenly turned-off or shutdown while my Macbook Pro is still connected then trying to eject the network/shared drive. That is only when I try to eject the drive. Finder still seems to function if I still haven't click the eject icon beside the drive. I had to do a reboot every time. I think OS X should prompt me that the machine I'm connected to is unavailable and disconnect the SMB connection automatically. This is just a normal Home network setup. My Windows PC is connected (wired) to a WiFi Router and I connect my Macbook Pro to the same network via WiFi.
    For me to be able to successfully eject the shared drive without just shutting my MBP down or restarting, I just turn my PC back on again. Then I wait for a few moments and try ejecting again. It works but kind of a hassle if you ask me.

    Sorry - I was very tired when I posted that - I guess it could have made more sense!!
    What I want is for my mac to only go to sleep if there's nobody connected via SMB.
    At the moment, I either have to set the sleep timer to never, or when I start to work on a file from the mac on the PC I find that the Mac's gone to sleep even though the PC's switched on and connected to it. Then I have to go and wake up the mac and reconnect with the PC.

  • Shutting down secondary DAG node

    Two Exchange servers setup in a DAG.
    I need to expand the log VM on our secondary Exchange server (2013). I am very new to DAG Exchange administration. I am aware there are scripts to initiate DAG maintenance. I am just curious if this can be
    safely accomplished by going through the steps below?
    Suspend each mailbox db through EAC on the primary Exchange server
    Shutdown the secondary
    Expand the log VM
    Boot up the secondary Exchange server
    Resume DAG replication through Primary EAC
    Thank you,

    Thank you for the feedback. I found another good overview of what I will go through tomorrow morning. There are also some scripts that were recommended in the 2nd link.

  • When I shut down the Mac Pro, it restarts

    Has anyone run into this issue with their Mac Pro? When I shut down the computer (either via the Ctrl + Option + Cmd + Eject or the Shut Down command from the Apple menu drop down), the Mac Pro will simply restart and take me back to my log-in screen.
    At this point, I can hit the shut down button on the login window and it will shutdown, but this is annoying, a waste of time, and unnecessary.
    I have tried performing an SMC reset, but it has not resolved this issue.
    Specs: Mac Pro (2010)
    3.33 GHz 6-Core
    (2) 2TB Internal HDD
    12GB ram
    ATI 5870 graphics card (1GB)

    I have noticed the exact same behaviour. It only happens when I have something plugged into one of the front USB ports (example : external HD, USB key)
    Apparently the system crashes during the shut down process, and then reboots.
    Unfortunately, I have not yet found a solution

  • IPhone can be shut down with screen locked and passcode set

    Having Passcode Lock on, I can power off the iPhone when the screen is locked. Is this intended or is it a bug? It can be problematic to use Find My iPhone if someone steals somebody's iPhone and shuts it down.

    The iPhone of my wife is stolen last week and didn't had a always online data plan. So there was in some way nothing we could do. For that reason I shut down the simcard and via icloud.com sent a message to the iphone and placed it in restore mode.
    In this case the poweroff passcode requirement didnt had any use but it would be very much of use when someone has an always online connection. That way if it gets stolen its traceable as long as the battery lasts. Letting the iPhone reset itself after 10 false attempts to login is stupid. That way its not even traceable anymore.
    As far as I know with iOS7 there will be a apple id login required before you can restore the iphone! I don't know what will hebben if the home and powerbutton will be used at the same time... But it makes it a little harder to steal a phone and sell it.
    Also, if the iphone can be connected to an apple ID you could do a lot more, for instance:
    Mark the iphone as stolen. When the phone is in some way restored, the imei number is marked in a database and the iphone will be traced through wifi or 3g without the new owner knowing. If you want you can send messages or shut it down. You can only mark a phone as stolen if it is connected to your apple ID. So if you sell the phone, you want to restore it, restoring it requires a login with your apple id, after it has been restored the iphone is "free of apple id" and cant be marked as stolen. When somebody, the new owner, connects it with his apple id, its his iphone.

  • Managing Coherence via JMX for web and non web app

    I read your posting on,
    Q: Where can I get an advanced example of managing Coherence via JMX?
    and downloaded the jar file.
    It works for the web app but not for the server application.
    My configuratiion is two weblogic server with two tangosol nodes and two independent tangosol server nodes running in a cluster. That is 4 tangosol cluster are running. The jar file allows me to see only one node that is running on the web logic server. How can I view the other 3 nodes?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    JInspired recently released a special update to JXInsight which includes support for Tangosol's Coherence product. The release provides 3 important features for Coherence customers:
    1. Coherence JMX-to-JXInsight metric mapping
    2. Coherence JVMInsight extension (remote inspection of cache runtime state)
    3. Coherence Cache trace extension
    The following links provide additional information entries:

    http://forums.jinspired.com/viewtopic.php?t=8
    One large benefit to using JXInsight for monitoring Coherence is that you could cache associate activity with other layers in your application stack (JSP, EJB, JMS, JCA, Hibernate, JDO,...) including contextual processing steps.
    Within our installation root directory there is a sample/coherence directory containing a sample script to test with the Coherence product.

    I have a PC.  I would like to sync my iPad2 via itunes.  My computer recognizes my ipad but itunes does not.  I have uninstalled itunes, shut down the computer and restarted plus reinstalled itunes.  I visited the Apple store there is no problem with the iPad or the cord. I still have the same problem and am unable to sync when I plug in the iPad via the USB cord.  Does anyone have further suggestions?

    Try going into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTUnes, Apple mobile device service, apple application support. Then redownload and reinstall iTunes and see if it'll work
    If the computer sees your iPad you know the cable and connection is good, so the issue has to be software.

    If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • Shutting down default JMX RMI port

    I am starting up my JMX agent for remote access and it opens 2 ports, one which is set by the -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=XXXX and one randomly assigned port.
    I know I can install a custom JMX agent to specify another RMI port that I can control, but what I really want to do is shut down the randomly assigned one. The problem is that weve a port monitoring app, so I can't open any ports open that I cannot control with causing IT to complain. Is there any way to disable this connector?
    Thanks,

  • In 2 node RAC. After shutting down database not able to connect.

    I have 2 node Oracle 10g RAC (RAC-1 and RAC-2) on Windows 2003 Server.
    After shutting down instance on RAC-2
    I am not able to connect to database from any node.
    I did this on RAC-2 :
    SQL>shutdown immediate;
         Database went down smoothly.
    SQL>conn sys/oracle@rac as sysdba
    ERROR:
    ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currnetly know of services requested in connect descriptor.
    My first node is running fine but I am not able to connect to database from first node or from client.
    Any suggestion???
    Regards:
    Sushil

    One question I want to ask, what should be the Listener Services startup mode in RAC? MANUAL or AUTOMATIC???Ideally, if you are instances and other oracle resources are set to autostart then there is no reason for you to set the listener to MANUAL. You may like to change it to AUTOMATIC so that on reboot it comes up without manual intervention.

  • Node Manager not shutting down the Managed Servers

    I have WebLogic Server 8.1 SP4 installed on around 9 separate boxes - 3 servers form one WLS domain of one admin + two managed servers. The managed servers are started using Node Manager from the admin console.
    On one domain start/shutdown using Admin Console works just fine however the other two domains the managed servers startup fine but shutdown fails - or takes over 15 minutes. I see the following error in the Node Manager logs
    NMMessage: Command read failed 'Connection reset' on socket/ <ip_address>
    Any ideas on what I can do to fix this ? The servers which will not shutdown have EJB's installed on them. Dont think this could be related as shutting down the application results in the same problem as listed above.
    Thanks,
    Kevin.

    The name of remote machine configured on admin server it must to be resolved on same machine in /etc/hosts:
    Example:
    On the admin server is configured the unix machine N1234
    On the machine N1234 in the file nodemanager.hosts it must be present the IP of admin server
    On the admin server in /etc/hosts it must be present
    IP_N1234 N1234

  • Firefox will not open. Hangs at "connecting" stage. Non-responsive even to process shut-down via task manager.

    Starting yesterday, Firefox will not open at all. It hangs at the "connecting stage." For hours. It will not shut down even using the task manager for applications or processes, and it locks up virtually every other application. I thought I managed to save an open Word document yesterday - it looked like a slow, but normal save during the Firefox hang, but the document was empty when I restarted my computer.
    Even though my machine is not pentium 4 based, I tried starting using the Windows XP/M configuration, I downloaded and re-installed (over the top of) the existing version, I verified that no Mozilla processes were running before trying to start Mozilla, and tried creating a new profile. Absolutely no success. Every time (of the dozens) I have tried to start Firefox I have had to force a hard shut-down to get out of the application. I have now unpinned Firefox from my task bar because I keep forgetting and hitting it by reflex.
    I am running version 11.0 (at least that is what I just downloaded - I am not positive what I was running yesterday). My system is Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core i3, 2.4 gHz, 4 GB RAM, 64 bit OS.
    Next option is to restore to a previous version. If that doesn't work, I will uninstall and start over from scratch.

    A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
