Siebel 7.0 to 8.1 Is a Two Step Upgrade

Hi All,
I wanted to bring this to everyone’s attention since it caught me by surprise. There is no direct upgrade path from 7.0 to 8.1. 7.5 is the last version that offers a direct upgrade path to 8.1
This is not nearly as bad as it sounds. When done correctly the extra upgrade will only add one week to your development upgrade process. We have done many two step upgrades including 6.x to 7.8/8.0 upgrades as well as SEA to SIA upgrades and once you realize how to properly perform these upgrades the second step is not significant to the project’s duration.
Actually dropping support for 7.0 is really just getting back to business as usual for Oracle. Normally when a new version of Siebel comes out support for the oldest direct upgrade version is dropped. This was the case for 7.7 being the latest version that supports a direct upgrade from 6.x.
Support for 7.0 upgrades was maintained for 7.8 and 8.0. We all just got used to 7.0 being supported but now that direct upgrade path is gone.
Please contact me if you have any questions about how to minimize your two step upgrade project duration. There are certain details you should know about before attempting such an upgrade if you have never performed one before.

I ran the patch and got:
Installed post install CPU files
You are installing OHS_8.1.7.0 component for ORACLE_HOME D:\ORACLE\ORA81
You are installing MODPLSQL component for ORACLE_HOME D:\ORACLE\ORA81
OID_2.1.1.3s is not installed in this Oracle Home
SSO_3.0.9.8.4 is not installed in this Oracle Home
SSO_3.0.9.8.5 is not installed in this Oracle Home
DB_8.1.7.4 is not installed in this Oracle Home
Patch Installation Completed
Then I tried to run the Post Installation Instruction (§3.2.2 of the readme for 5236412):
@D:\ora8174\5236412\catcpu.sql and got a "ORA-20000: server version does not match script".
I can guess this is link to the previous "DB_8.1.7.4 is not installed in this Oracle Home" but why DB_8.1.7.4 could'nt be installed ?

Guillaume.

  • Siebel 8 to 8.1 upgrade

I am trying to find the steps for a Siebel 8 to 8.1 upgrade its obviously not a full upgrade that you would have from 7 to 8 where can I find the process overview

    Hi,
Sorry but you are most definitely wrong. This is a full upgrade (not a fix pack or quick fix) and it will require ALL of the steps that a 7.x upgrade would take.
Here is how Siebel versioning works.
    First letter – major version. E.g. 6, 7 , 8. Full upgrade required.
Second letter – minor version. E.G. 8.0, 8.1, 8.2. Full upgrade required. Just think about 7.5 vs 7.8 – of course you would need to do a full upgrade. How can you possibly thing 8.0 vs 8.1 will be any different.
Also – you need to be on 8.0 SIA since you want to upgrade to 8.1 SIA. If you are on 8.0 SEA it will take two steps to get to 8.1 SIA. We just completed such a two-step SEA 8.0 to SIA 8.1 upgrade and it is not too bad if you know what you are doing and have done many such two-step upgrades before.

  • Siebel 8.0.0.12 Fix Pack; Unable to get the seed from binary file.

    Hello Folks,
Can anyone throw some light into what action is required on my scenario.
I have applied Fix Pack Siebel 8.0.0.12 on top of 8.0.0.11 SBA. After it is appled, I am facing a documented issue within the Release Notes for the 8.0.0.12 Fix Pack
The issue is "UNABLE TO LAUNCH URL AFTER APPLYING SIEBEL 8.0.0.12". I tried the steps given with the MR document, however, I am still having this issue.
I am also not sure what is expected at the step of; Run the following command: seedgeneratorutil myseed.dat abcdef .
It's asking me for a value to enter for seed at command prompt. "Enter the seed":
what I should give here. As an assumption values,I gave SADMIN and tried to launch but still shows up the same error
    Please Assit
    Steps Details from Release Notes:
UNABLE TO LAUNCH URL AFTER APPLYING SIEBEL 8.0.0.12
    Component: Server Infrastructure
    Subcomponent: SWSE
    Product Version: Siebel 8.0.0.12
    Base Bug ID: 11938270
**Users are unable to launch the URL after applying the Siebel 8.0.0.12 Fix Pack.
**Use the following workaround to address this issue:
Navigate to the eappweb/bin directory from the command line on the SWSE installation.
    Run the following command:
    seedgeneratorutil myseed.dat abcdef
NOTE: In the example, myseed.dat is a filename. You can give any file name you wish.
The myseed.dat file is generated in the eappweb/bin directory.
Edit eapps.cfg to include the following parameters under the SWE section:
    seedfile = < complete path for myseed.dat >
    Bounce the web server.
(For Linux only) Copy libmod_swe.so from the eappweb/bin folder to the web/ohs/modules folder

  • BI Publisher Report generation problem in Siebel

    Hi Experts,
Here is the scenario, let's say i have 2 BIP reports in siebel, named Report A and Report B. i tried using 1500 records to generate Report A and Report B. I view the status of the reports in My BI Publisher View in Siebel, i noticed that after 5 hours, Report A is successfully generated, and report B still doesn't show if it successful or not, after 2 days, report B still doesn't show if it is successful or not.
Based on the scenario above, here are my questions:
a.) is there a way that we can increase the report generation for BI Publisher integrated with Siebel? 5 hrs of generating 1500 records i think is too slow, specially if that specific report is required to be generated everyday.
b.) do you know why Report B still doesn't show if it successfully generated eventhough both reports was generated using equal amount of records?
    Thanks in advance! :)

Here are the two steps I took to get the VI to work on my machine:
    1) Recompiled the code by ctrl-shift-clicking on the run arrow.
    2) Changed the string in the 3rd frame of the sequence that goes into the Append Front Panel Image to Report from I Graph plot.vi to I_Graph_plot.vi.
After making the changes I did a File->Save All.

  • Siebel 8.1 and MS SQL Server 2000

I am upgrading our Siebel 7.8 instance running on MS SQL Server 2000 to Siebel 8.1 and MS SQL Server 2008. My original intent was to upgrade the database first (so that we would be runing Siebel 7.8 on MS SQL Server 2008), and then upgrade the application to 8.1.
I have been running into resource issues with regard to the SQL Server upgrade. My question is:
Can Siebel 8.1.1 run on MS SQL Server 2000?
    Thanks.
    -- Ken

    Hi
You can migrate your 7.8 to MSSQL 2008 as this is a supported platform.
Usually in an upgrade you will upgrade your development db platform as a source of your 8.1 upgrade process.

  • Siebel Testing. Cookie handling, cookie load balancing and authentication.

We are delivering a PoC in a big Siebel customer and we are finding some issues.
    Environment information is:
    - Siebel testing, version 8.
    - NTLM Windows authentication.
When we create a Siebel Load script, recording works fine. Replaying the script, after adding the Authentication function, does not work
When we create a Web Load Script with the same structure and business process, after adding the Authentication function, it works.
Looking at the difference between Web and Siebel scripts, only difference are a couple of cookies that Web script considers and Siebel does not. This two cookies are added in the second call of the NTLM handshake requests (two requests with 401 http code and a final with a 200 http code). The application, in the first NTLM handshake request, ask the browser to add a couple of cookies that the browser (and OLT in a web load script) add. Siebel load script does not add/handle this cookies.
Accordingly, the script works with web module but does not work with Siebel module.
Right now we only have two options to make Siebel work:
    - Change the DNS address to point to a single node for the application, instead of pointing to the load balancing service. This way, cookies are not needed and the script does not fail.
    - Add the cookies by hand. This way, cookie content is "hardcoded" and, so, it will not be useful for load balancing purposes, which lead us to previous bullet. Load testing using Siebel will not work load balanced.
I added a web script (works fine with no tweaking) and a Siebel script executed with normal configuration (does not work) and workaround (avoiding the load balancing cookies- it works).
    Many thanks for the help,
    Iván.

    Álex,
Thank you a lot, I will call you related to other issue also. Thanks for the kind help!.
IMHO, it works or not depending on cookies added for load balancing. Siebel module does not specifically add these cookies, while web module does. If you delete the cookies from the web module, it stops working, so I guess the cookies are making/breaking the script.
I will send you the scripts, so you can have a look.
    Thanks,
    Iván.

  • Upgrading Siebel form 7.5 SEA to 8.1.1.11 SIA

Please provide the list of things to be taken care while upgrading Siebel from 7.5 SEA ENU to 8.1.1.11 SIA (ENU,FRA,Germany, spanish,Italian, portuguese)

Correct, at each step you use as input for the test/ production upgrade process the custrep.dat and schema.ddl taken from the development upgrade of that step.
More detail about the Siebel upgrade process (which also includes SEA to SIA migrations) is available from the Upgrade Advisor: Siebel from 7.8.x or 8.0.x to 8.1.1.x (Doc ID 259.1)
Even if you are looking at a different upgrade path, the general concepts discussed on the upgrade advisor do not change.

  • Siebel 7.8 -- 8 upgrade process and environments

    Hi,
I'm new to Siebel Upgrade and I'm trying to figure out the upgrade process searching on the bookshelf and white papers (best practices).
I still can't comprehend the upgrade architecture and where the new Siebel sw (for ex. Siebel 8 in my case) has to be installed:
Let's suppose to have 3 starting environments: development (7.8), test/production replication (7.8) and production (7.8).
According to the bookshelf there's an initial phase (and this is valid for development environment too) called "upgrade infrastructure" in which they talk about "upgrading" the server, gateway, SWSE, etc. and about installing Siebel software.
For example at pag. 26 in Upgrade Guide version 8.1, during the development environment upgrade explanation, you can read:
"...Upgrade the Gateway Name Server, Siebel Servers, and Siebel Web Server Extension (SWSE).
For information upgrading these Siebel Enterprise components, see Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using.
3 - Install the Siebel Database Server files on the Siebel Server you will use to perform the upgrade.
You only need to install the database server files for the database type that you are upgrading.
4 Install language packs for your currently deployed languages and any new languages...."
Now, starting with a 7.8 development environment, what do they mean: Do I need to install on the same development box (where the 7.8 already resides) also a new 8 development environment (server, gateway, etc.) in order to execute the development upgrade process?
And then, should I install another new 8 environment on the Production/Test machine, in order to perform the production/test environment?
Finally, should I use the test machine (once all is tested as the new production environment?
Probably I'm a bit confused. Can you help me?
    Thank you,
    Best Regards

Your upgrade process depends on how you want to carry out.
For a Inplace upgrade, whicih means you will be using the existing hardware where earlier version exists, you need to uninstall the earlier version install the new version and the kick of your siebel database upgrade.
The other process is where you obtain new hardware, in this case install new version of siebel software as per requirements and then start your siebel database upgrade. For this you may need to replicate your existing siebel database.
This process applies to all the environments.

  • GUEST and GUESTCST account and responsibilities in siebel 811

    Hi siebel guru's,
I am working on siebel 811 installation and came to know about two users GUEST and GUESTCST however GRANTUSR.sql file does not contain any details about these users.
siebel 811 installation guide says that these users are already present in siebel database however i tried to find out after siebel repository importing there were no users present.
How someone provide high interactive user and standard interactive uses during installation if those are not present in database?
How many types of responsibilites in siebel 811 ?
Please let me know its very urgent?

    Hi,
Thanks a lot for this info.
    (1) As per the siebel 811 installation guide, GUEST and GUESTCST user should be already present in siebel database after siebel database installation however i tried to find out these users in oracle DB. No user found of these names.
    (2) I have created these users in ORACLE DB manually however please let me know how these users should be add in siebel seed data and what would be the responsibilities of those users?
If any docs available please share with me at [email protected]

2.About EIM and how it relates to siebel CRM.
3.Where can I found the best documents relating to these technologies.
I will be very much great full to u all if u do the same......Anticipating a quick response.
    Thank u very much
    Edited by: user12271769 on Nov 25, 2009 1:34 AM

For your requirement You should have database skills in order you can understand how Siebel works at database level.
All the information regarding to Siebel including documentation will be found in OTN Documentation, I don´t remember well where the section is, I suppose the Siebel section.
I recommend you read the basics from siebel if you want I have some information (that I can share you) about this in order you can understand the main concepts.
And all the task that has to be with migration has to be with EIM and for integration (comunication between systems with Siebel) EAI.
    Here some info. about EIM:
    What is EIM?
Bidirectional exchange of data between non siebel database and siebel database. Siebel Enterprise Integration Manager (EIM) is a server component in the Siebel eAI component group that transfers data between the Siebel database and other corporate data sources. This exchange of information is accomplished through intermediary tables called EIM tables. The EIM tables act as a staging area between the Siebel application database and other data sources.
    [edit]Functions of EIM?
    Export
    Import
    Delete
    Merge
    Delete
There are a number of ways of deleting in EIM
    DELETE EXACT
Deletes rows from the base table where the keys match those previously populates in the EIM table (remember to set CLEAR INTERFACE TABLES = FALSE)
[Siebel Interface Manager] UPDATE STATISTICS = TRUE USING SYNONYMS = FALSE PROCESS = Clear Subscriptions
[Clear Subscriptions] TYPE = SHELL INCLUDE = "Delete Subscriptions"
[Delete Subscriptions] TYPE = DELETE BATCH = $myBatch TABLE = EIM_QUOTE USE INDEX HINTS = TRUE CASCADE DELETE ONLY = TRUE CLEAR INTERFACE TABLE = FALSE ONLY BASE TABLES = S_DOC_QUOTE DELETE EXACT=TRUE
    DELETE MATCHES
DELETE MATCHES is used with a WHERE Clause where you would delete only selected records by filtering out the records in the table.
    [edit]EIM Process
    EIM is two step process.
1.Loading legacy data to interface tables.
2.Loading siebel base table from interface table thru EIM task.
[edit]Loading legacy data to interface tables
1.Legacy data-any text file or excel file (data mapping)
2.Convert the data to load into i/f table into above file format
use sql loader or any other tool based on your database to load into i/f table
    1.
    1.DTS-MSSQL
    2.SQL LOADER-ORACLE
2.Do the appropriate mapping in excel sheet b/w columns in i/f table and columns in Siebel base tables.
[edit]Loading siebel base table from interface table thru EIM task
1.Use the EIM task to run the second step
2.Create ifb file as per your requirement from already existing default.ifb
    3.IFB FILE has two parts
    4.Header-credentials
5.Process-name of process (given by your own)
    6.Description of process

7.Save it and provide as one job parameter during EIM task. I think you know other parameter like trace flag, error flag, etc. Then run the task.
    8.EIM errors
    1.Ambiguous-now row id is provided
    2.Duplicate-with same row id
    3.Foreign key mapping-failed to map
4.Required columns-failed to load some required columns
5.Picklist-fail to load the values given in picklist
    Hope this help.

  • InDesign CS5 upgrade fails, erratic behavior. Caused by Siebel?

PC1 and PC2 upgrading from CS4 to CS5. Both PCs are identical. Install on one of them fails with odd icon issues, file association probelms, etc.The only difference we can find is that the PC that had a failed install has Oracle's Siebel CRM installed. Further evidence, after InDesign CS5 had been installed, my Sieble quit and had to be reinstalled. The only variable we can find is the installation of Siebel.
Is it possible that InDesign CS5 and Oracle's Siebel CRM have conflicts? We've been battling this for quite a while and may have to downgrade our entire enterprise back to CS4 is we can't eliminate the CS5 bugs. Please advise.

I'm on a fact finding mission right now. All the computers in our department that have CS4 and Siebel installed (and working fine) start acting really strange when upgrading. As soon as we try to updgrade CS4 to CS5, there are all these wierd errors and failures and exception erros, etc. So either Siebel was built with a bug way back when (we use an older version), or Siebel and CS5 try to use the same frameworks without playing nicely.
You're right, it could be Siebel. But it could be InDesign, just pulling togther info at the moment and want to know if anyone else is having problems. Our IS tam is patching Siebel this weekend, so we'll know a little more.
