Ordered high-speed internet service online on Oct 1 and there was no response from Verizon for 18 days - when I finally got through, they made me wait an hour or so before they announced they will have to redo the order.. what a waste of time.

    Right. But as I understand it, the aGPS is a function that speeds location using cell signals, but isn't necessary for the GPS signal. I can buy a plugin device that is a real GPS that I can use with my iPad mini. However, I would need an app for maps. I was wondering if anyone had used one of these.

  • Is a NID needed for DSL service?

    I just signed up for "High Speed Internet" (aka DSL since FiOS is not yet available in Baltimore city).  I am doubtful I will get the promised speeds of Downloads up to 3 Mbps / Uploads up to 768 Kbps because the wiring is so old from the telephone pole to the house that I do not even have a Network Interface Device (NID) on the outside of the house.  I should add that I am about to install fresh wire on the inside of the house from where the phone line comes in to the point where the phone line will hook into the modem, so my inside wiring will be fine.  Do I have anything to worry about?  Will they definitely install a NID for me and redo the wiring from the poll to the house since it is 30+ years old?  I should add that I do not have home phone service and do not need it either.
    I just called Verizon to try and schedule the DSL technician and the one lady told me they turn on the DSL from a central location and there is no need for the technician to even come to my house so they will not install a NID while another lady told me that the technician will come out to my house and test the signal.  I was just trying to be proactive today in calling to set up an appointment when I would actually be home since if they do install an NID they will possibly need access to the interior of my house to hook up my interior wiring to the NID.  They wouldn't even let me push back the appt to a few days past the due date and none of my questions were answered.
    I have a feeling that no matter what happens, it will be a fight to get them to replace the 30+ year old wiring that comes from the poll to my house.  I am just assuming that this wiring is likely not new enough to get me the promised speeds (Downloads up to 3 Mbps / Uploads up to 768 Kbps).  Anyone have any insight or advice for me?

    No NID needed. I had DSL (moved to FiOS), and my copper pair ends with a porcelain block. My guess is the copper pair is upwards of 70 years old (the house dates from 1926).I had DSL service for about 15 months with Verizon before moving to FiOS. The service to this house long predates NID's.
     That's the good news. The bad news was that if I could hear thunder, my DSL service was down, and it also degraded substantially in bad weather. While on good days I could just about get to the 3mbps downlink, 650kbs was about the best I could ever do on the uplink. The modem reported horrendous losses (60+db) on the link, which mean fairly high transmit power on both ends which ultimately may impact modem life.
    Anyway once you are installed, you can connect to the router/modem and see what the modem has been able to negotiate with the CO. It will be in the log everytime the DSL connection is initiated.
    Ultimately the DSL performance depends upon how good or how bad the copper pair is between your premises and the CO. Even ancient copper can work quite well if the distances are short.

    Hello, I have a problem that I hope you can help with. Tuesday I went online to see if I qualified for your service with no deposit(I did). Unfortunately, I never saw a confirmation notice of approval and I went a few steps too far and actually purchased the phones from you. This wasn't what I intended and I called to cancel. That went ok, but the items had already shipped. I was informed by customer service to just refuse the items and Fedex will send the phone package back.
    Wednesday, I never got the shipment and called Fedex to find out why. Apparently you had requested it get returned and that is what they are doing. As of last night it was en route back to you.
    Thinking everything with that was taken care of, I decided to still sign up for Verizon Wireless, but wanted to go through Best Buy for the Gold and Blue Galaxy s5's. When I get there I am informed that I already have an account, yet there is no phone number associated with it. So the Best Buy rep has no idea how to proceed, as they cannot set up new service since it appears I already have an account. Nor could they do a work around and upgrade as I had no number.
    While I was at the store I tried calling customer service and they were very rude and said they had to have the phones that I ordered back on their way to them. I said they were and told them that I could look on the fedex site and see that they were en route. But the customer service rep was unwilling to help any further.
    I was wanting to move over to Verizon as I've heard the service and support was much better than ATT. But I am pretty tired of this mess. I am reaching out to you via facebook and this forum to see what my options are. I was wanting to get these phones by this weekend as the specials that Best Buy were offering may go away. 
    Please let me know what can be done.

  • How to resolve iPhone 5 sync freeze that started after signing up for Match service

    The title really says it all. Ever since I signed up for the Match service, I have had problems with iTunes, particularly with syncing my iPhone 5 (first generation). Sometimes iTunes hangs as soon as it opens, or takes forever to send/receive my Match results. Other times, it goes through that process and then hangs when I try to sync the phone and it gets to the 6th step. If I cancel the sync, it still continues to stall, saying "cancelling sync." Closing and restarting the software and/or the computer does not help. I have the most recent iOS on the phone. I also just installed the latest release of iTunes hoping it would fix the problem, but I'm getting the same results. I am on a core i3 Toshiba Satellite laptop.I have a reasonably fast wifi connection - 12 mbps, I think it is.
    Any help or advice appreciated.

    YOu have to turn off iTunes match for this to work.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

When I tried to set up e-print it said I woud get an e-mail address that would print. This never happened. I would like to talk to a support person so I know how to proceed.     If you would like to speak with tech support directly, you can find all the support information at eprintcenter.com.  You should not need any proxy information if you are on a home network.  If you are on a corporate network, you can get the proxy information form you IT team.  Most of the time, if the printer says it needs a proxy address, all you need to do is set a static IP.  Follow the steps in step six in this document

    When it askes for DNS information, enter in Google's DNS. Preferred DNS = 8.8.8.8 Alt DNS = 8.8.4.4
    If that does not help, if you could provide me with the following information it would help me out. First, who is your ISP( Internet Service Provider, i.e. Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, ect.)? Second, who is the maker of your router? Lastly, what is the model number and firmware version of your router?

  • Self signed certificate for web service security !!

    i've created self-signed certificate using keytool for web serivce security. But i'm unable to implement from the client side. When i'm giving "dn=localhost" it's working fine. But when i'm giving other than that it's throwing me error as :
    java.io.IOException: HTTPS hostname wrong: should be <192.168.2.36>
    I don't know what's the problem. Could any tell me where i'm wrong. In the CN i've given my ip address. Please help me out.

    But i follwed the same which are given. Do i need to set something in netbeans? i'm usign netbeans 5.5,tomcat 5.5 and jdk5. Still i'm getting the same error as "https hostname is wrong: it should be <192.168.2.278>", which my ip address. I've created my self signed certificate and given the path to it by mentioning in System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore","d:/keystore/auth.keystore"); and for password to. Do i need to do something else?

    If you ordered self install, it should include a tracking number(on the order status page) to track the shipment of your equipment.
    It will have a setup guide for the device that you receive.
    If you ordered AT&T DSL, there is a 150 GB internet cap(with the ability to purchase more usage). If you ordered AT&T U-verse, there is a 250 GB internet cap(but, it's not entirely enforced at the moment).

    Has anyone been able to get the "Find my iPad" feature from MobileMe to work on a 3G iPad that isn't signed up for 3G service? I supposed I should just enable my 3G, but I wasn't going to bother until I needed to use my iPad outside of WiFi areas.
    I have done everything that is supposed to enable find my iPad (push notifications, enable find my ipad, add a passcode, etc.), but MobileMe just says my iPad is offline. It finds my iTouch just fine with all of the same settings.

    Yes, it will even work with 3G off but wifi on. It seems to use a connection (either way) and GPS to located the iPad. I tried it before activing an AT&T account and with cellular data off.

    I can't believe I've spent nearly an hour trying to sign up for service during my 10 days in Germany this summer. I can get the Trip Planner, which tells me it costs $25 for 100GB, but I can't figure out where to go to sign up for this service.
