Simple: cancel HD movie rental in favor of SD instead on iPad, this appears to be impossible

That's all. I started to download the HD rental, realized it was going to take 6 hours, so I wanted to cancel in favor of downloading the SD. The store continues to recognize the download as In Progress and will only let me continue the current HD download, removing it in iTunes itself has no effect, no idea how to accomplish what seems like a pretty straightforward use case.

Once an item enters the download queue, the user cannot remove it. Either let it complete the download (easiest) or contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the Contact page  and ask them if they'll remove the item from your queue for you.
Regards.

  • Can I cancel a movie rental on iTunes before it is downloaded?

I think my wifi connection is too slow and the movie that I wanted to rent started downloading at a very slow rate.  I had to close the app and now I would like to cancel this rental, how can I do that? I'm using a mini iPad.

You might be able to swipe/drag across (from right-to-left) the film in the Downloads tab in the iTunes store app and get a Delete button.
But rentals are a one-time only download, if you want to redownload it on a different device or computer then you will need to try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant it - either try 'report a problem' page to contact Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
Or you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Movie rentals disappear several days after transferring to iPad.

I'm having a repeating problem where I rent iTunes movies on my laptop and then transfer them to my iPad but the movies disappear from the iPad after several days. They do not reappear on my laptop, nor do they show as expired. They are literally just gone without warning. This is always inside the 30 day rental period and without opening them. I'm aware of the 24-hour rule and that is not the problem. They literally just vanish.
iTunes customer service has been good about restoring credits to my account for missing movies, but they are clueless as to why it is happening. I am running the latest OS versions on my laptop (mid 2012 Mac Book Pro) and iPad 2. Everything is up to date.
The first time this happened it was curiousity; now that it's happened multiple times I am DONE with iTunes rentals until there is a solution. The tipping point was when the customer service person emailed me and suggested I use the fee-based support system to work directly with an Apple tech specialist.
Really? Are you suggesting that I should PAY YOU to fix a broken system just so to once again have the opportunity to PAY YOU to watch movies? I don't think so...
I'm a die hard Apple user/owner but the suggestion that I pay them to find a software bug...just so I then can give them more money (in the form of rentals)...ridiculous. That's what's called "adding insult to injury."
I really would like to see this resolved, but I'm switching to Amazon rentals in the mean time.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue?

When I go to this screen it says the movie is on the right side. I apply the changes. After the sync, it says it is on the Ipad. However it is not on the ipad. I've had the Ipad2 since it came out. THis is the first time this has happened.
The Django Unchained Movie being stuck on the Ipad without seeing it on the ipad is old news. I thought I got it off. It's still on there.

  • HT1657 Why can't I find my HD movie rental after I downloaded it on my iPad 3?

I can't seem to find a HD movie I recently rented and downloaded on my new iPad 3. It is not under purchased items and it is not under downloaded items. Also, when I go back to iTunes and look at the movie it says I already rented and downloaded it. I rented it last night around 10pm and couldn't find it is morning.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or what I need to do to find the rental?

It should be in the Videos app (iTunes on the iPad is just the iTunes store) :
If it's not in there then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding it ?

  • Movie rentals not syncing

movie rentals are not showing up on my ipad in videos even though they show moved in itunes.  I am also set up for home sharing, but I cannot find the option to select in order to access the other devices to try and watch the movie's through home sharing

Do a Spotlight Search for movie on iPad.
    1. From any Home screen page of iPad, drag your finger down anywhere on the center of Home screen.
    2. Spotlight search will now appear and you can search for apps, texts, or any other content you'd like just as you did on previous versions of iOS.

  • When you download from your IPAD a movie rental from ITUNES-where do you go to find it?

When you download a movie rental from the ITUNES app. on my IPAD-how do you find the movie rental to be able to watch?not under video,purchases,movies-?

If you don't find it in the Videos App look in the iPod App as well. If you still can't find it, from your home screen, swipe to the right to bring up the Spotlight search feature. Type in the name of the movie. If the movie appears - tap it and it should begin to play.

  • My movies and movie rentals are not syncing with my ipad?  any ideas on why?

my tv shos, movies and movie rentals are not showing up on my iPad but do show up in my iTunes library.  Any ideas or reasons why they aren't transferring to my iPad when I sync it?

At the moment, I only have a couple of movies in my "Videos" folder.  About a month ago I did have 2 rental movies and they were in a subfolder which I think might have bee called rentals. After I watched them and aftet the 24 hour viewing period was up, they went bye-bye.
As to why you don't see any rentals, I don't think iTunes allows rental movies to be synced to another device.  I know they don't allow transfer from ATV to an iTunes folder on a computer.
Did you actually rent these missing videos directly to your iPad? If so, they should be there.  That's how I got the 2 rental movies that I had in my Videos folder.

  • Itunes Movie Rental Geographical Limitations and Offline Access

I live in Canada and will be travelling to Vegas next month. I'd like to be well prepared with some movie rentals through itunes on my macbook air.
My concern is, would there be any geographical limitations in viewing movies in USA that have already been previously rented and downloaded in Canada from the Canada Itunes store?
In simpler terms, If I rented a movie from iTunes Canada (while physically being in Canada), would it be viewable while in USA?
Also, would I have to have an internet connection to watch it even though it's been dowloaded in advance?
I've read through many boards (though there has been no clear answer) that many have been having issues playing movies without first having an internet connection.
I've read that some iPad and iPod users report that there are no issues with watching rentals without any internet connection to begin with, but I have yet to hear a macbook user report the same.
I was wondering if I could get a certain answer as to whether or not an itunes rental could be played WITHOUT ANY internet connection whatsoever to begin with on a MacBook Air.
    Much thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

  • HT1657 Movie Rental: Download Time

  • HT1657 Using a VGA adaptor with iPad 1 for iTunes movie rentals?

I have an iPad 1 with a VGA adaptor to display supported apps on external displays like YouTube and GoodReader. I tried to use this with a rented SD movie from iTunes and I got a warning along the lines of  "output device not supported for protected material." Is there a way to do play iTunes rentals on an external display from the iPad? This is simple on a MacBook.
    Thanks,

Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
    Cheers,
    - Judy
