Simple library question

Is it possible to export only the contents of a library to an
external folder for later importation and use.
I seem to spend loads of time re-doing the same graphics and
buttons over and over again. I would like to export to a folder and
then selectively import from the same folder as required. Can I do
this?

I have a possible solution for you.
Create a new flash doc and populate its Library with all the
assets you wish to reuse at anytime.
Save it to the user-level Libraries folder on your hard disk.
On Windows, the path is C:\Documents
and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application
Data\Adobe\Flash
CS3\language\Configuration\Libraries\.
On Mac OS, the path is Hard
Disk/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash
CS3/language/Configuration/Libraries/.
In Flash, go to Window > Common Libraries and select the
desired Library from the list of Flash FLA
files you copied to this folder on your local drive. This is
why giving your documents short and
descriptive names is important.
Once you select a Library, a new Library panel will open
containing the assets you added to it
earlier. Drag and drop the desired Library items to your
new/current document. It's just a handy way
to retrieve reusable assets at anytime from within flash -
you can always add more to these FLAs in
the Libraries folder by opening them and adding new library
symbols and saving it.

  • Totally confused--simple library question

    Hi,
    OK, I'm at a loss. I've used computers forever, resisted iTunes forever, finally decided I'd better stop being a dinosaur. I can't accomplish what I'm trying to do though...maybe someone can help.
    I mostly use my Macbook Pro. It's running out of space, and certainly doesn't have room for my huge MP3 collection. So I have all my songs in an "MP3s" folder on my Mac Pro downstairs. Inside the "MP3s" folder I've got folders for each letter--"A", "B", etc--in which I've meticulously filed the songs sorted by artist. The MP3s folder is shared over my network.
    ALL I WANT TO DO.....is be able to start iTunes on my laptop, have iTunes find the MP3s folder on the network, look inside that folder, show the letter-based folder structure I've created in the main iTunes window, let me navigate to a song, and play it. Every time. No adding songs, subtracting songs, managing songs, or messing about with my own custom structure.
    In iTunes preferences, I pointed the Library to the MP3s folder. But nothing at all shows up in iTunes. If I go to Finder and double-click a song in one of my MP3s subfolders, iTunes starts, plays the song, and then I have that song showing in the iTunes window by itself. That's not how I'd pictured this happening.
    Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Is this even POSSIBLE with iTunes?
    It's the difficulties trying to get simple things like this set up that put me off using iTunes for so long in the first place, much as I can see it's the way everything's done nowadays.....

    Hmmm...maybe we're talking past each other, perhaps I wasn't clear (or maybe I'm just being dense). If I tell you "I want to be able to download an MP3 song using uTorrent or Cabos to my download folder, then move it to my MP3s folder on my Mac Pro, and then have that song appear in iTunes when I start iTunes again", is iTunes smart enough to do that on its own? Or do I have to actually click Add to Library to add any new songs I've downloaded separately?
    Sorry for not following you....I do get the concept of the Library as a "pointer" of sorts to the actual files.
    not a problem canadave...
    short answer, no itunes is not smart enough to automatically find songs in a folder. long answer spews on and on legally downloading music and how itunes has things in place to do its part to make that a less likely option for users, etc. i wont go into that, but perhaps a watched folder or some other smart folder automator action might be able trigger the adding of the new file into the library. that there is the key, the library file has to be aware of the new music. in order for that to be successful, it should already be in its final location (sorted in your structure) or placed there upon import via itunes.
    more to think about...
    if it's downloading into your downloads folder, then it's not going into your proper folder on the other computer where the files are stored. this is where the itunes file management might come in handy... there are apps that handle that tasks for you. i'm not familiar with uTorrent or Cabos, but p2p client Acquisition and torrent client xTorrent both have a preference that automatically puts files into the itunes library and cleans up the downloaded files after it does so. i use both of those clients (and recommend that you do so legally) so that the legit help here does not get flagged as advocating illegal downloads.
    i guess it comes back again to whether your folder scheme is necessary to anything other than your organizational system. if not, i'd recommend using itunes method, and the take the added value of some other apps out there to help automate your process. i was reluctant to let itunes take control of my files so long ago, but i find now that it's much easier that way. for instance, if i have a single file floating around, not properly assigned to an artist or album, setting that data in itunes will put it where it belongs for me.
    btw, doug's scripts is a fantastic resource for itunes applescripts for hundreds, maybe even now thousands, of itunes and related file tasks. check it out: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/ it's amazing to see what other people have already tried, done, and suggest just by looking around his site.

  • 4 Simple Flash Questions that Are Stumping Me!

    What is the Frame Rate for Web Animations
    Q1. I am making an animation which will be played on the web. What is the default frame rate (fps) of Flash CS5? And what is the frame rate of for web?
    Q2. My animation needs to be 30 seconds long. So at 15 fps that would mean I need to use 600 frames in Flash?
    How Do I Mask everything so all I see is the Content on the Stage?
    I have a wide image that extends past my movies stage size so when I preview my movie the image is visible. How do I mask out anything that extends past my movies window size? I believe I can create a layer named "mask" and place it above all other layers, but I forget how to make the mask. Any help is appreciated.
    How to Fade a Graphic
    I have a graphic element (some type) and I want it to fade from 0% to 100%. In older versions of Flash I could just select the symbol and then set it's alpha value to 0%, move a few keyframes and then set the alpha to 100%. Voila! but now it doesn't seem to work that way. How can I do this in CS5?

    Ned, it says 24 fps which means there is 24 frames per second so each 24 frames is 1 second.

    1 You can create your character as a movieclip and copy/paste that movieclip from one file to another. 2. One way to create a movieclip is to copy all the frame of the animation's timeline (select them all, right click the selection, choose Copy Frames), then create a new movieclip symbol (Insert -> New Symbol...etc) right click on its only keyframe and chhose Paste Frames.  THat will put all the layers and frames you copied into the movieclip The only way to come close to being certain about the timing of you animation is to use code to keep track of the time, something like getTimer()..  The frame rate that a file plays at is not a reliable means of dictating the time it takes due to a variety of factors which include the amount of content you are trying to process and performance limits of the user's machine.

  • Simple performance question

    Simple performance question. the simplest way possible, assume
    I have a int[][][][][] matrix, and a boolean add. The array is several dimensions long.
    When add is true, I must add a constant value to each element in the array.
    When add is false, I must subtract a constant value to each element in the array.
    Assume this is very hot code, i.e. it is called very often. How expensive is the condition checking? I present the two scenarios.
    private void process(){
    for (int i=0;i<dimension1;i++)
    for (int ii=0;ii<dimension1;ii++)
      for (int iii=0;iii<dimension1;iii++)
        for (int iiii=0;iiii<dimension1;iiii++)
             if (add)
             matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  += constant;
             else
             matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  -= constant;
    private void process(){
      if (add)
    for (int i=0;i<dimension1;i++)
    for (int ii=0;ii<dimension1;ii++)
      for (int iii=0;iii<dimension1;iii++)
        for (int iiii=0;iiii<dimension1;iiii++)
             matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  += constant;
    else
    for (int i=0;i<dimension1;i++)
    for (int ii=0;ii<dimension1;ii++)
      for (int iii=0;iii<dimension1;iii++)
        for (int iiii=0;iiii<dimension1;iiii++)
           matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  -= constant;
    }Is the second scenario worth a significant performance boost? Without understanding how the compilers generates executable code, it seems that in the first case, n^d conditions are checked, whereas in the second, only 1. It is however, less elegant, but I am willing to do it for a significant improvement.

    erjoalgo wrote:
    I guess my real question is, will the compiler optimize the condition check out when it realizes the boolean value will not change through these iterations, and if it does not, is it worth doing that micro optimization?Almost certainly not; the main reason being that
    matrix[i][ii][iii][...]  +/-= constantis liable to take many times longer than the condition check, and you can't avoid it. That said, Mel's suggestion is probably the best.
    but I will follow amickr advice and not worry about it.Good idea. Saves you getting flamed with all the quotes about premature optimization.

  • A few simple Logic questions...please help.

    I have a few probably simple Logic questions, that are nonetheless frustrating me, wondering if someone could help me out.
    1. I run Logic 8, all of the sounds that came with logic seem to work except organ sounds. I can't trigger any organ sounds (MIDI) on Logic, they won't play. I have a Yamaha Motif as my midi controller.
    Any idea why?
    2. I've starting running into a situation where I will record a MIDI track, the notes are recorded but they won't playback. The only track effected is the one that was just recorded. All other midi tracks playback.
    I have to cut the track, usually go out of Logic and back in, re record for it to playback properly. Any idea why this may be happening?
    3. How important is it to update to Logic 9. Are there any disadvantages down the road if I don't upgrade. If I purchase the $200 upgrade, do I get a package of discs and material, or it just a web download.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Simple Library Import question

    I have a simple question pertaining to importing. I am used to iPhoto where you import all pictures into your "Library" folder. However in Aperture I find that I can import into the "Library" (which in turn also puts the picture in a "Project") and also import directly into a Project which sometimes doesn't seem to include the pictures in the Library.
    My confusion is what is the point of Library then if you can import into a project? (or have I done something wrong during an import?)
    Thanks in advance!

    An image is always in exactly one project. All the images in all projects are in the library. (Folders and albums are a little more complicated, holding pointers to images, not images.)
    Highlighting "Library" in the projects panel doesn't show anything (usually). If you highlight the All Images blue Smart Album under Library, it will show all the images in all projects. If that doesn't seem to be the case, it's probably because you're filtering images. Select "Show All" in the search box at the upper right corner of the Browser. It's easy to forget this, and panic because all or most of your images seem to have disappeared.

  • Aperture vs iPhoto library questions

    Hello, I am brand new to Aperture from iPhoto.  I am moving to Aperture to take advantage of the organization options because I am starting to run out of HD space with my 100 GB iPhoto library.  I want to have the option in the near future to switch to referenced masters on an external drive.  So my question has to do with the unified library between iPhoto and Aperture.  When I upgraded to Aperture, I had to first update iPhoto to the new library format.  I then opened my iPhoto library in Aperture.  Everything I've read about the unified format has explained that it is compatible with both applications.  But I've also read that iPhoto does not work with referenced masters.  So, can I use Aperture to convert my iPhoto library to Referenced masters?  Or do I need to transfer my photos into a native Aperture library first?  And then once I switch to referenced masters, will iPhoto still work with my new library?
    Thank you,
    Ray

    But I've also read that iPhoto does not work with referenced masters.
      And then once I switch to referenced masters, will iPhoto still work with my new library?
    Ray,
    iPhoto can use referenced original master image file, it works well in iPhoto '11. Only, iPhoto has no built-in tools to repair broken references, if referenced files get accidentally moved or changed, so it is not recommended to do this in iPhoto. But since you now want to use Aperture, that will not be a problem. You will be able to repair broken references using Aperture. iPhoto will work well with a referenced Aperture library. I am using it all the time.
    So, can I use Aperture to convert my iPhoto library to Referenced masters?  Or do I need to transfer my photos into a native Aperture library first?
    Yes, that is simple.
    Upgrade your iPhoto Library by opening it in the latest iPhoto version, and then use the command "File > Open Library in Aperture".  Now Aperture will work with your iPhoto library as an Aperture library. Events will show as Projects in Aperture, albums will still be albums. All keywords and ratings, Faces and Places  will transfer.
    To switch to referenced masters/originals select the images you want to relocate and use the command "File > Relocate originals".
    You may want to read this page of the manual:
    Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Referenced Images
    But make a full backup of your libraries before you start to reorganize them and relocate files.

  • Iphoto/aperture unified library question

    I have just bought a new iMac to replace an ageing one.  I succesfully copied my iphoto library to the new machine (via a separte hard drive).  I checked the library opened fine in iPhoto and everything was there (all fine).  I then bought and installed Aperture on the new machine and pointed it the the iphoto library which it opened (after first upgrading it) with no problem.  So I now effectively have a "unified" iPhoto and Aperture library, although in practice I do not intend to use iPhoto any more, I will always be working in Aperture.
    I now have a simple question,  my photo library in the Finder (sits in the Pictures folder) is still identified as "iPhoto Library", does this matter?.
    Now I believe I can (if I want) simply rename this to "Aperture Libary" or whatever else I want to call it but this made me wonder whether there is any distinction between a unified library that began life as an iPhoto library (as in my case) or a unifed library which began life as a Aperture library.  Specifically, is there any change I could or should make to my library given I only ever intending using it with Aperture - or once you have a unified library is there really no differance at al between a library labelled as an  "iPhoto Library" and a library labelled as an  "Aperture Library" - other than in name?
    Thanks for your help.

    No it makes no difference.

  • Another script library question

    I had a quesiotn about this and "kel" gave me this suggestion:
    put these in [external script file]:
    property var1 : "VAR1"
    property var22 : "VAR22"
    property var333 : "VAR333"
    then in the actual script, do:
    set f to [external script file]
    set s_lib to load script f
    var22 of s_lib
    This works but there is a problem. I have now hundreds of lines of code with almost 30 variables, occurring dozens of times in the text and to manually find each and every one of them and paste "of s_lib" after them would be just awful.
    So my question is: is there a way to avoid it and simply "#include" the library somehow, like in C++?
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello Asu,
    I'm afraid you've missed an important point on global declaration.
    The point is that the variables imported by the previous 'SCRIPT 2' become global variables in the importer script just as though they were declared as global in importer's implicit run handler. And in order to refer to those global variables from a handler other than implicit or explicit run handler, you have to declare them as global in the handler unless you have declared them as global in the top level of importer script. In this respect, the global declaration in 'handler1()' in 'SCRIPT 2' is mandatory.
    Global variable declared in top level of a script and global variable declared in a handler in a script have different behaviours in regards to their scope. Please peruse the language manual for details:
    cf. pp. 311-323
    'Scope of Script Variables and Properties'
    AppleScriptLanguageGuide.pdf
    By the way, of course you may define a new variable and set it to an imported global variable, but then I think you should lose the only advantage of 'SCRIPT 2' over 'SCRIPT 1', that is no reassignments of variables are needed in 'SCRIPT 2'.
    As for handlers in external script, you'd need more complicated device. See the codes below. 'SCRIPT 1A' and 'SCRIPT 2A' are revised samples for 'SCRIPT 1' and 'SCRIPT 2' respectively. Although I'm posting them here, I don't recommend this sort of coding practice at all. It unnecessarily complicates matters and makes debugging harder. I'd recommend instead the simple and natural approach in AppleScript, that is; to load an external script and to tell it to do its tasks (as kel has explained), that should minimize non-essential dependencies and maxmize modularity (in AppleScript's own fashion).
    Hope this helps,
    H
    PS. 'run' command of AppleScript and 'run script' command in Standard Additions are utterly two things. The latter creates a new instance of script every time it is invoked and hence cannot share the context with caller script in normal means. And I see no reason to use 'run script' where I can use 'run'.

      [1] If the code currently in main() were in implicit or explicit run handler instead,
       no global declaration should be required for handler names, for the variables become implicit globals.
      [2] Possessive 'my' is required to resolve handler name properly in another handler.
       If the code currently in main() were in top level of script (i.e. in implicit run handler) instead,
       'my' possessive should not be required.
      [3] This should fail if f1() is called (via gf1()) in a script that loads this script; e.g.
        -- code of caller
        tell (load script file "path to this script") to run
        return gf1() -- this should throw error -1708
        -- end of code of caller
      [4] Always invoke other handler by its 'global' name. cf. [3]
    -- end of "globals.scpt"
    -- END OF SCRIPT 2A

  • Creat simple library for javaCard

    hi all.
    thanks for your reading.
    i use NetBean to create library. My project is very simple, just have some variables and some public methods. Now, i built and received 2 files: Mylib.Exp and Mylib.Class.
    The question is: how to convert it to JAR file to import from another applet.
    I use command line: jar -cvf, but it throw ex:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: mylibrary\javacard (Access is denied)
    at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method)
    at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.java:179)
    at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.java:70)
    at sun.tools.jar.Main.run(Main.java:169)
    at sun.tools.jar.Main.main(Main.java:1149)
    here is my simple code:
    package mylibrary;
    import javacard.framework.JCSystem;
    public class MyLibClass {
         public byte f1 = (byte)3;
         private byte f2 = (byte)2;
         protected byte f3 = (byte)2;
         private byte f4;
    public byte f5 = (byte)1;
         byte f;
         public void mPublic(byte a, byte b){
              f = (byte) (f2+f1+f3+f4+f5);
         private void m_private() {
              return;
    protected void mProtected(byte a, byte b){
              f = (byte) (f2+f1+f3+f4+f5);
    thanks you all

    Hi,
    This is not a problem with your code. Can you show the complete command you ran? It looks like you do not have permission to write to the output folder.
    You should also be able to create a JAR file from NetBeans. As far as I am aware, when you build a project it will create a JAR file in the dist directory.
    Cheers,
    Shane

  • Simple Report Question

    I want to take the information in a simple excel table and recreate it 3 times, each time sorting/grouping on a different columnHere is the tableAnd here is the report that I'm trying to generate (first sorted by name, alphabetically, then grouped by rank, then grouped by size) I'm comfortable working with excel tables in Crystal, but I'm running into a problem repeating the information and then sorting each group separately. I also have no problem doing each group in a single report (without repeating any records), but I'd like to include all 3 groups in a single report.  My apologies for how remedial this question is- I thought for sure that Crystal could do this easily but I've spent a couple of days on this and am running into a brick wall.

    That's right Scott, and maybe make them "on demand"
    sub reports so the user only has to see the data they
    really want at the moment.  Gives the report a nice clean look too.
