Single WAE \ WCCP \ Dual Routers - Slow Accelerated Traffic

Our standard WAE design was to have dual WAE's at sites with dual Routers.
The WAE's are either 674's or 574's and the routers are Cisco ISR's all works well.
Several new sites have coome online but these sites now only have a single WAE devcie and two WAN routers.  Some users at
The issue I have now is that some "Accelerated" sessions via the WAE devices are reported by users as being very slow. When those sessions are removed from WAAS policy and set to pass through the user reports normal access again.
On looking at the problem I have possibly identified that the lack of the command;
ip wccp redirect exclude in on the router interface
But this command was never applied to the exisiting design, though potentialy under normal conditiaon where both routers and both WAE's are working it's never been a problem.
From Cisco;
In any scenario where egress redirection is used, the command above MUST be issued on the router interface adjacent to the WAE. This command, "ip wccp redirect exclude in", ensures that packets received on the interface are not redirected again. This prevents an optimized packet from being rerouted directly back to the WAE. Instead, with this command applied, the router would simply see the packet coming in and forward it normally (WCCP would be bypassed for packets received on that interface).
The WAE's are NOT L2 connected to the Routers so the following config is applied,

What do you mean by "sessions removed from WAE policy" ? Are you configuring static bypass on the WAE or are you excluding specific traffic with the WCCP redirect list ?
I am defining certain traffic as Passtrough via a ststic bypass on the WAE’s
- check if the slowness affects all the redirected traffic or just particular sources/destinations/applications
      Recent testing has identified it just seems to affect a certain share, which I am investigating as this share has some kind of "Archive" solution in place.
- make sure that the WCCP redirect ACL matches both directions of the connections
      It does
- check the redirect / return method that is being negotiated
      All OK     
- make sure both routers are seeing the WAE via WCCP
      Yes they are
- check for "routing loop" in the WAE syslog.txt to understand if the WAE is receiving some traffic twice
      Investigating and will post reply. 
Are the affected connections showing up in the "show stat connection" output on the WAE ? If so, are they optimized or PT ?
     They show as fully optimized when configured for the CIFS AO, but revert to PT when the static WAE policy is altered.

    Hi,
    I have this particular setup with the WAE connected to the standby router(not inline) and the traffic comes in from the active router.
    The active and standby router are interconnected and using iBGP.
    Will the WAE actually sync with the active router connecting from standby router with the normal redirect commands?
    Do I need to do something so that the redirected traffic from router 1 goes to the WAE connected to r2?

    One thing about this config is you will to put both routers on the same list in the WAE.

    This will do what you want it to do.

  • WCCP and 7600 - not redirecting traffic

    I have a Blue Coat SG 210 connected to a 7600(SUP720).  All web traffic is passing thru the 7600, WCCP config between the SG and 7600 are working.  However traffic isn;t being redirected to Blue Coat..any idea why?

    Ilir,
    How is this second group of users connected to the ASA?  Their outbound traffic has to be going out the "inside" interface also. If they are on another port on the ASA, WCCP won't catch their traffic. i.e. You can't use the DMZ interface on an ASA and point its web traffic at a WSA that lives inside.

  • Single processor vs dual core

    Hi all, hope this is the right place to put this post.
    I'm finally about to take the plunge and get a new mac pro, putting my old G4 out to graze.
    My question is, which machine is the best? A single processor or dual core?
    I work mainly with photoshop, illustrator, indesign, painter and increasingly flash and dreamweaver.
    It's going to cost me a couple of thousand so I need to get my choice right.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    It all depends on how intensely you use the apps you listed.
    If you just dabble in them never doing anything very intense then single processor will probably be sufficient.
    If on the other hand you use these apps to their fullest and with great intensity then the dual processor would be the better choice.
    A second point if you use the apps professional to make money then the dual processor would be the better choice since time is money.

  • Single Layer or Dual Layer DVD?

    I just made a DVD for a client who now wants to make a small number of copies using a third party software.
    They've asked me if they should order single layer or dual layer DVDs? I think the answer is single layer, but I want to make sure.
    When I made the DVD, I set the size at 4.7 GB, although I only used up 3.21 GB.
    That means I should tell them to order single layer, right?

    I dont think there is any difference in Callmanager software for a dual processor versus single processor server. For 7845 (dual processor) the hardware detection disks may be different from the one for single processor (7825, 7835)
    Migrating from one to another is as easy as taking a BARS backup from one server, build the other server to the same version and restore it. (Make sure server name and ip are the same for both servers)

  • 2 WAE WCCP l2 only 1 gets the traffic

    Hi,
    I have 1 WAN Router and 2 WAVE devices configured in WCCP. The configuration works fine except that only the first WAVE that sees the router and established the WCCP receives the traffic. What I mean is that both WAVEs see the router and vice versa. When I establish the WCCP connection, the first WAVE to establish it becomes LEAD WAE and the other one does not get packets. If I disconnect the lead WAE or change its WCCP config and put it back, WCCP switches over to the other WAE and the other one is now exclusevly receiving the traffic. No load balancing is acheived.
    First here's my setup:
    1 WAN Router Cisco ISR G2 2911 IOS 15.2(1)T
    2 Cisco WAVE-274 WAAS version 4.3.3 configured identically for WCCP.
    Router IP: 10.x.y.1/22
    WAVE IPs: 10.x.y.9 and 10.x.y.7 /22 and default gateway is the router 10.x.y.1
    Users are on the same network 10.x.y.0/22 (is this a problem? i read in some WAAS config guide that the WAE cannot be in the same network as users)

    Although it is recommended to use HASH for 2900 series routers, I just switched to MASK method for load balancing on both WAVE devices. This is supported according to Cisco doc. It seems that connections are now being accelerated by both WAVEs.
    The behaviour is a bit weird though, connections are first being sent to one WAE then they show up as passthrough on it for a quick second and after that they get treated by the second wave!
    I also see this behaviour when looking at the counters on the router, the counters went up to 274 packets on one router and are no longer changing although new connections are being treated, while the other router has a lot more packets:

  • Single 5870 vs Dual 5770?

    For final cut x/compressor/motion needs, would it be more beneficial performance-wise to go with a pair of 5770s or a single 5870?

    Thanks, sounds like the 5780 is the better choice.  Faster single clock vs multiple slower clocks.
    And yes, the GT120 is terribly slow.  I went to another lab on campus to do a final cut training, and they had dual 5770s.  Night and day.

  • Dual band slow network

    If I use dual band from my time capsule and use airport express to extend my network and use airplay will my network be slower? Using 5ghz for N and 2.4 for G ?

    The AirPort Express will very likely connect to the 2.4 GHz band since those signals are stronger and travel over distance and through obstructions much more effectively than 5 GHz signals.
    5 GHz signals may be faster.....but they are also significantly weaker than 2.4 GHz signals.
    Another way of saying the same thing is the higher the frequency....the weaker the signal.

    I'm not 100% sure if I understand your requirement: Do you really want to use an Oracle Sequence, as Alex already demonstrated?
    Or just a 'one-time-bunch-of-sequential-numbers'.
    In the latter case you can just select level:

  • Rebuild our XI application server from Single stack to dual stack

    Hello,
    We currently have an XI landscape with two application servers, the CI is of course a dual stack system, however the two app servers are single stacked, however we would like to make the two app servers into DUAL STACKs, my first guess was to rebuild the two apps from scratch and reinstall them as a dual stack apps. My Q is:
    First: Do we need to rebuild both app servers, or can we make a change to the app servers to modify them to become dual stacked
    Second: If we do need to rebuild both these apps, is there a specific document available to do this on Market place for installing a Dual stack app servers with PI?

    obviously this app server does not have any (jlaunch/jcontrol process running) therefore it is not running as dual stacked. but interestingly enough I do see logs in the

    as per the note you mentioned above (741289 ) this explains how to recover a lost J2EE parameter setup, I am guessing this can be simply followed and re-enable the app server to run as a dual stack.

  • Redundancy from ibm os/390 tcpip to dual routers

    I have 2 routers that have single escon connections to the same mainframe tcpip stack (os/390 2.9). What is the best way to provide failover from mainframe should one router fail. this involves mainly ibm tcpip configuration and would prefer to do without routing on mainframe and have to pass routing updates between mainframe and routers. Has anybody set up this scenario?

  • Single Homed or Dual Homed FEX

    With the ability to do enhanced VPCs now on the FEXs is there any benefit to have a mixture of having of single attached FEXs and dual homed FEXs?
    Here are some benefits as I see them
    Single homed FEX is easier to trouble shoot as the topology is not as complex.
    A dual homed FEX will support both dual attached hosts and a single attached host. So this means we only have one topology to deal with (everything dual homed)
    Any other pros or cons?

    If you have any servers with only one uplink, you want dual homed FEXes for redundancy.
    Also, it depend on the number of FEXes you are connecting to the same set of switches.  For example: the max number of FEXes that can be uplinked to a set of 6k switches is 24 if you are dual homed, but if you are single homed the max is 48 (24 per switch).

  • Slow tcp traffic over ge0 interface

    I have a server that while using ge0 for UDP traffic, it uses full bandwidth, but for tcp is slow as hell.... ttcp is showing how slow it is, into the kbps rather than mbps. I want to know if there is a specific patch to fix this.

    I've been double checking everything this morning and I feel we were not attacked. All the MAC addresses in my capture are valid system addresses. ISE does not show any authorized machines attempting to connect to the switch. We have DHCP snooping enabled throughout the organization. That was a great article to learn from though.
    I've included a visio of the setup and a snippet of the wire capture and arp/mac tables as were captured during the incident. Traffic from the fileserver intended for employee 2 was flooding the port employee 1 was connected on. The destination MAC address of the packets were not meant for employee 1.
