[SIS Series] HELP - MAX655 & 9800pro

I can't get both of them to work together...i've install the latest catalyst and the sisagp, even removed all storage devices except for hdd (to reduce power consumption) still can't get any games running. Mysteriously the game ran fine without any drivers installed (fresh XP). Any help in these matters is highly appreciated.
Thanks

Fresh XP is using Windows generic driver which can only run up to 800 x 600 @ 16bit max.
You'll need the drivers for your card to run graphics intensive games.
I'll suggest that you install the SIS GART Accelerator first, then the AGP drivers. You'll also be required to install the SIS chipset driver.

  • [SIS Series] HELP! Tger Direct victim, but trying to solve prob. - 661FM2 crash

    Bought the "bundle":
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1596858&sku=TC3J-2014
    but was told by MSI tech support that the P4MAM2V and the Celeron D-340 are compatible only with extra mods to the MBD.  So instead of sending board off to be modded, I decided to get another MSI board that lists as compatible, the 661FM2.
    Well all works fine with this combo, until I pliug in the supplied Chaintech XGI Volari V3 AGP 8x 128MB DDR Video Card.  I get BSOD's, "Windows Protection Errors", and my Trend Micro Internet Security AV and firewall crashes Windows.
    All I am doing is trying to put a gaming (Flight Sims) system together, using WIN98SE.
    The Ultra 500W PS and the CPU cooler seem fine, as well as the Ultra PS2100 DDR 266 memories (2) seem OK.  I have updated the MSI board to the newest drivers and the BIOS on the MBD is NEWER than what's available on the website (V2.0 3/7/05) , as well as I updated the Chaintech XGA driver from their website.
    OK so the Chaintech is not listed as "tested", but neither are any other 8X AGP boards.  I know that the MSI MB has a decent VGA suite built in, but I wanted to run this system to a TV with the SVGA out.
    So, WHAT 8X AGP 128-256Mb XGA with SVHS or COMPONENT OUT, VIDEO BOARD IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE 66FM2 Mainboard????
    PLEASE HELP!  I don't want to have to deal with Tiger to send the whole thing back!!!  (I already decided to keep the P4MAM2V as a "souveneir" of my dealings with TD....)
    THANKS!
    PS: I'll forget about trying to put my Plextor DVD burner on - that totally AFU'd  everything!!!!

    Already was there, but set it to lowest setting now, 32Mb.
    Also removed EVERYTHING from Windows Device manager and found some conflicts with the keyboard(???) and the XGA card (which is still not letting me go beyond 640 X 480).
    Rebooting as I speak for the last time after re-adding all the "windows found..." restarts.  Wil let you know in a few.
    Have my wife going to Wal Mart (she was at her Mom's nearby) to see if I can get another AGP  card with TV out to see if that helps...
    Thanks for reply!

  • [SIS Series] SIS 648 Max-L MS-6585 mobo probs. please help.

    I have been having tons of issues with this mobo.  First off when playing a simple game such as starcraft, it will either restart randomly, or perform an illegal operation.  It has massive probs playing any games more complex than that, which is sad.  I also had alot of problems with installation of win xp pro.  some files failed to copy. Install finally worked but after many tries. some help would be great. thanks.
    it had a 2.0ghz 400mhz fsb intel celeron processor but was changed out with a 2.26ghz p4 proc
    so heres the specs on this computer
    power supply
    tigerpro 350 watts
    vid card
    Abit siluro gf4mx-se
    hard drive
    80gb western digital wd800
    Hitachi 8x dvd rom drive
    generic firewire card
    s-braket installed
    d-braket installed
    2.26ghz 533fsb 512k l2 pentium 4 proc w/ stock heatsink+fan
    memory
    spectek select 512mb which worked in 2 other systems flawlessly
    OS
    presently a dual boot system with win xp pro and suse linux
    oringinally had just winxp pro and had same issues as stated before

    see i dont kno.  its a 350w psu, and it seems almost as if the ram bank is bad, ie the slot where the ddr mem goes.  i change it to a diff bank and it works.  starts up fine. but the next restart, will not run.  see this is what happens.
    1 turn on the computer. it will just sit there with no cmos/post beep and no bios for the mobo or vid card appears on screen.  hdd and dvd rom get power as well as the fans
    2 the d-bracket 4 leds read all green, signifying that the cpu or heatsink is bad or not installed properly.
    sometimes ill release the tension on the heatsink and move it around(the heatsink) then turn it on with the tension loose, and seems to do better like that. plus it will boot. also, another time and pretty much every time since my first post, it seems to start up all the devices, but no boot.  I initially thought it was the cpu so i changed that out with another that was known good. then it worked marvelously, but after another restart, refused to start at all.  Then after reading the other moderators post i realized it could be the ram.  I had the same issue with this board before, before it was RMAed mind you, where it wouldnt work, so i moved the ram to a diff slot and it worked.  same case with this new mobo.  it started up fine.  then same prob arose, but this time, no matter what would not start until i put the new kingston ram in. then i ran that memtest prog.  finished, got to 100%, and kept counting, but couldnt stop it or reboot from the menu, so i hit the reset button, prolly not the best idea, but i didnt have a choice.  im not quite sure if the ram passed or not, but immediatly after gave me tons of probs.  boots runs Suse linux, but wont run windows.  As soon as it loads it instantly restarts.  this happend even in safe mode.  this mobo was originally in the computer i have now, and i think its the same wattage and amperage as the one in the msi mobo case.  the reason y i dont see it being the psu is bc im currently runnin a 3.0ghz p4 1 sata 2 eide ok vid card a dvdburner and a cdrw.  alot more than this system, but never gave me any probs. but who knows i could be wrong.  I appologize for the long post.  but i am totally stumped on this one.  but it just seems to me like this mobo series (648max-l) is just way buggy.  i have had issues with this mobo from day one. as well as the one(exact model) before it.  If i have to put anymore money into this mobo, it jsut isnt worth it to me anymore.  i will prolly just  buy a diff mobo all together.  as always any help or suggestions are very much appreciated.  once again i appologize for the lengthyness, but i hope this will aid you in your diagnostic.  thanks again!

    I can't really go with a good name. :(
    on a very tight budget.
    would anything too bad happen if i just chucked the MB into my old celeron case with 240W power?
    and the graphics card which i have already recieved, says on the box:
    Minimum 250W power supply.
    any problems there?
    and what are pplz oppinions of the Geforce fx 5200 in terms of value for money?
    i reckon i coulda got better :(
    and lastly, i've never installed a cpu b4, only a heatsink/fan.
    do u just pull up some metal hook or something on the motherboard and slip it in?
    that's all i've seen on a demo on intel.com
    can't wait till i get my new p4 up 'n running

  • [SIS Series] Sound distortion problems

    This computer is 3 years old. I got it from new. Every 6 months I have stripped it out completely to get evrything cleaned. It has always been no problem . This time though when I started it up the sound was distorted as though there was a problem with the speakers. I tried the audio on the Monitor speakers and the result was the same. So that ruled out the speakers. I done a re-run and stripped everything out and reinstalled it again but still the same sound problem. Below are the specs. Can anyone help me with this problem. **I coudnt understand what you said about putting another proccessor and grafhics on the monitor?Is the sound ok when you put another processor?**
    I tried a friend's processor on my own machine, when I started up it seems that all I got was the fan running. No sound and nothing showing on her monitor. Now that I think about it, I should have tried my processor on her computer.
    At the end of the day my only option is to get a sound card and set it up. At least going this way I will still have the problem in the background and will still try to get to the bottom of it. If I don't get a card I would probably get rid of the computer as buying a new pc would be just as cheap as buying a motherboard & processor.
    Thank you for your time & directions on installing the card.
    If I get it sorted I will let you know

  • My ZEN - M SERIES - HELP!

    I have a 30gb Creative ZEN M Series which I bought a while ago from a store (Argos) - I didn't pay for extended cover and it is likely out of warranty, anyway here goes with the problem.
    I was away for a year and now when I plug in via USB to try and charge it up, the following happens.
    1. It powers up with the flashing blue light
    2. It then switches itself on and goes through a "rebuilding" process with a power bar which gets so far across before the Zen shuts down again
    3. I get to the battery icon appearing and the lightning flash across it but now after some 2 hours of trying to charge it doesn't get as far as even one bar on the power.
    So it seems like a battery problem? I have no other way of charging other than via USB cable besides which if the battery is damaged or has a problem, I really need to know what to do next.
    It's the 20G of music already stored on it that I'm concerned for as I have no back up!!
    The Zen itself of course can always be replaced but I would appreciate from ANYONE in the know as to what I do from here and what my options are.
    Many thanks,
    Craig.

    Thanks a lot (least so far), basically my player hadn't been used for 2 months and I was thinking maybe it won't charge completely because it was dedicated to the software which is on my laptop (which I can get hold of if necc, this is because I'm working out of area).
    Also can anyone put my mind at rest as to whether all the data is SAFE on it's hard dri've? Obviously I know better than to press the RESET button but as I ripped the 20G from my laptop to the ZEN I have no back up so petrified of losing all my music and vids.
    Thanks a lot (least so far) as I'd also like to be assured that all the data is safe on the dri've as I'm petrified of losing all my music and vids, basically I put all the data from my laptop onto the Zen but don't have access to the laptop as I'm working out of area.
    Also I though the problem might be that the device was dedicated only to the software on the laptop and was why it was not charging properly via USB on any other computer which is what I've been attempting to do.
    And can anyone advise whether buying a USB adaptor kit (Creative) which would allow me to charge the device via the AC jack as opposed to the USB route, might that be an option also?
    Will check back in a few days to see any responses, clearly it's doing my head in that such a simple product is proving such an arduous problem like it's not one of those things that you can just solve by buying a particular lead for example, clearly it's the battery that's a problem and my concern is if it needs a brand new battery, where do I get one and who will install it as I'm loathe to start tampering with stuff I know little about.
    Hope to hear from some more of you out there who may have some sound advice or help.
    Many thanks again,
    Craig Hayward.

  • We updated to 5 and have lost some apps, TomTom, books and  TV series, help!

    We did the updates to 5 and have lost some apps , Tom Tom and TV series, can't figure out how to restore them, Help!

    Have you tried syncing with iTunes again to restore them - assuming that the apps were synced with your iTunes library before you updated the iOS like you should have done.
    Connect your iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, select your iPad from the sidebar on the left side of the iTunes window, click on the Apps Atb at the top of the iTunes window on the right side. Make sure that the Sync Apps heading is selected and make sure that all of the apps in the list are selected to sync as well. Click on Aync or Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes to restore the apps to the iPad.
    If you were not in the habit of syncing with iTunes or can't find your apps again for whatever reason, download them again in the purchased tab of iTunes on the iPad or they can be downloaded again in iTunes on your computer and then synced to the iPad. You can download apps again at not charge as long as you use the same Apple ID and iTunes account that you used to buy them with originally.

  • Hailstone series help

    Hi everyone, I have an assignment to generate the Hailstone series. I have done the programming part, however when executing it an error message pops and I cannot understand or find the nature of it. Please help me if you can. Here's the code:
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class Lab5
        public static void main(String[] args)
            Scanner in = new Scanner (System.in);
            System.out.print("Would you like to compute a Hailstone series? ");
            String a = in.nextLine();
            char answer = a.charAt(0);
            while ((answer == 'y') && (a.length() == 1))
                int start = getStartingValue(in);
                int length = computeLength(start);
                int max = computeMax(start);
                outputResults(start, length, max);
                System.out.println("");
                System.out.print("Would you like to compute another series? ");
                a = in.nextLine();
                answer = a.charAt(0);
            if ((a == "n") && (a.length() == 1))
                System.out.println("Goodbye!");
        // Given a Scanner in, this method (repeatedly, if necessary)
        // prompts the user to enter a positive integer, inputs the
        // integer, and if it is positive returns it. Otherwise, is
        // keeps asking the user for a positve integer.
        private static int getStartingValue(Scanner in)
            System.out.print("Enter a positive integer: ");
            int start = in.nextInt();
            while (start <= 0)
                System.out.print("Enter a positive integer: ");
                start = in.nextInt();
            return start;
            // Do not declare the Scanner variable in this method.
            // You must use the value this method receives in the
            // argument (in).
         // Given a positive starting value x, this method generates the
        // corresponding Hailstone series and returns the length of the
        // series (i.e., how many steps it takes before the series hits 1).
        private static int computeLength(int x)
            int i = 1;
            while (x != 1)
                if (x % 2 == 0)
                    x = x / 2;
                    i++;
                else if (x % 2 != 0)
                    x = (3 * x) + 1;
                    i++;
            return i;
        // Given a positive starting value x, this method generates the
        // corresponding Hailstone series and returns the maximum value
        // in the series (i.e., the largest value it generates before
        // the series hits 1).
        private static int computeMax(int x)
            int max = x;
            while (x != 1)
                if (x % 2 == 0)
                    x = x / 2;
                else if (x % 2 != 0)
                    x = (3 * x) + 1;
                    if (max < x)
                        max = x;
            return max;
        // Given the starting value, the length, and the max value in a
        // Hailstone series, this method outputs them with appropriate
        // messages.
        private static void outputResults(int start, int length, int max)
            System.out.println("");
            System.out.println("Generated series for starting value " + start);
            System.out.println("Series converged in " + length + " steps");
            System.out.println("Largest value generated is " + max);
    And the output looks like this:
    Would you like to compute a Hailstone series? y
    Enter a positive integer: 25
    Exception in thread "main" Generated series for starting value 25
    Series converged in 24 steps
    Largest value generated is 88
    Would you like to compute another series? java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 0
         at java.lang.String.charAt(Unknown Source)
         at Lab5.main(Lab5.java:32)

    Thanks again to everyone, I've done the program now. The second part is to find the biggest Hailstone series between 1 and the entered number (for example, "5"). The problem is that I cannot calculate the biggest one, all I get is the sequence of lengths of for every value from 1 to the number, that was entered. I think that the solution is easy, but I just can't see it. I think it's because the "max" value in the code turns to zero after each turn. I can't figure out how to make the "max" value compare itself to the previous sequence length, instead of being the zero compared with the new sequence length.
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class Lab5Extra
         public static void main (String[] args)
              Scanner keyboard = new Scanner (System.in);
              System.out.print("Enter the ending value: ");
              int endingValue = keyboard.nextInt();
              int startingValue = 1;
              while (startingValue <= endingValue)
                   int length = computeLength (startingValue);
                   startingValue++;
                   computeMaxLength(length);
                   outputLength(length);
         private static int computeLength(int startingValue)
             int i = 1;
              while (startingValue != 1)
                   if (startingValue % 2 == 0)
                        startingValue = startingValue / 2;
                        i++;
                   else if (startingValue % 2 != 0)
                        startingValue = (3 * startingValue) + 1;
                        i++;
              return i;
         private static int computeMaxLength(int length)
              int max = 0;
              if (max < length)
                   max = length;
              return max;
         private static void outputLength(int length)
              System.out.println(length);
    } And the output is this:
    Enter the ending value: 5
    1
    2
    8

  • [SIS Series] 649 neo-v ide 2 problem

    I have problem. I cant find anything on ide 2 i have tried everything. What shell i do??????

    The problem is really simple, the motherboard can not detect both my DVD:s at the same time. If it could be that simple to solve, but no.
    The motherboard is a Neo-V Sis 649. I have 2 DVD:s, 1 NEC 3540 and one Samsung SH-W162. (Both are DVD:writers) My OS is XP Proffessional. The graphics adapter is a Gforce N6600 PCI-Expess.  I purchased a computer (not assemled) and tried to get things to work. At first, I connected the HD on the primary IDE (at the outer connector on the IDE cable, I have never moved it since - this must at least be correct) The HD is strapped as CS. I connected a DVD on the inner connector on the same cable and the other DVD on the outer connector on the secondary bus. I created a C: partition on the HD (not the whole HD space). Then i installed the OS. At first things seemed to work. After the OS was installed I created more patrtitions on the HD and then the problems started. One thing I am not absolutley sure of is if both DVD:s did detect at that time, sorry I don't remember that.
    When I had created more partitions i discovered that only one DVD appeared in the system. The BIOS could not detect it either, because of that I don't think that the DVD was detected from the start. (It cannot be a OS problem) It was the DVD on the inner connector (on the primary bus) that was detected. I have tried to put both DVD:s on the secondary bus, I have swiched places and both DVD:s can be detected, just not at the same time. That rule out any malfunction with the DVD:s according to me. I have strapped the DVD:s as CS, Master, Slave in all combinations and in all posistions but only one DVD detects. I have change IDE cables, I have flashed BIOS to v 3.1, CMOS reset, but no difference. I have checked in BIOS so both IDE channels are enabled and they are. The problem is still there, the motherboard seems not to detect anything on the secondary bus but the primary bus seems to work allright. "OK - it must be the motherboard then..." -  it was brand new but it is of course possible that it is broken the same. After a contact with the shop where I bought it, I got a new board. But no, the same problem was there - no difference at all.
    I think I tried everything, I dont know what to do next - If you could help me I would be eternelly grateful!
    If you want some more specifications, just let me know.

  • [SIS Series] New 3d card

    I installed a new 3d card and installed the sis agp driver. But when I start the computer it says "input not supported" on the screen after windows loading. How can I fix it?

    If you oress F8 during the loading of windows and select the "VGA mode", does it boot ?
    If it does set the resolution to 800x600 and reboot to normal mode, if it works now then apperantly your monitor did not support the resolution or refresh rate the driver set by default.
    You can then experiment in normal mode and see what happens.

    Just purchased the 661FM3-L board, have P4 531 3.0g processor, WD 120G Sata drive.
    Problems are that it boots as far as "updating ESCD" and hangs, can't get it to boot from floppy or CD, and shows no Primary drive.
    Please help
    Thanks

    I bought a tv series in hd and 18 hours later the first episode is only 1/2 way downloaded . (ipad2) Am I doing something wrong?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
    1080p HD movies require a recommended speed of 8 Mbps, 720p HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

  • [915 Series] Help: How to enable Multiprocessing with 915P & 3.2 Prescott

    I can't seem to get 2 processors showing in Device Manager, even though it says MPS Multiprocessor under Computer.  Also, Windows Task Manager shows only 1 bar chart for CPU Usage History.
    1. SiS Sandra says my CPU is P4P-T/J (Prescott) Pentium 4E 90nm 2.8-4Ghz 1.25V-1.40V
    2. Hyperthreading and IOAPIC are both enabled in BIOS (ver 3.4)
    3. Running Windows XP Pro SP1
    Any clues?

    Some additional info:
    - I have the latest Intel Inf drivers installed.
    - Strangely, when I change from MPS Uniprocessor to MPS Multiprocessor in Device Manager, the idle temp of the CPU goes up from 38C to 50C.
    - I have tried a fresh install of XP Pro on another disk in the system, to no avail.
