Sitewide Splash page?

http://webscom.zendesk.com/entries/10272…
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex…
Those are two tutorials that tell me how to make a splash page. What I want to do though is show a splash page whenever a user comes to my site through ANY link. So they could type in my site and they'll see it, or click on a link to some forum post and they'll still see it. I figured you would just have to set cookie variables and have them be cleared whenever somebody leaves the site. But I don't know how to do that. Can anybody help me with this?
P.S. I was told it might be possible to do with .htaccess, I'll take any way I can find.

I had a feeling this thread would be full of lectures stating why you shouldn't do it. Here's how:
Create cookie using js, php, or whatever. Include in each page if/else where if cookie is set then show page else show splash page, redirect to splash page, or whatever.
The problem with other methods mentioned is there's no way to redirect back to the original intended page. If you include if/else to check if cookie is set and if it isn't then put an include to show the splash page then when someone clicks ok it can set a cookie and refresh the page to show the page as intended without the splash. There's plenty of information on the internets that will show you how to set a cookie and how to check if a cookie is set and do something if a cookie isn't set. Keywords to search have been bolded for you. You can also check out: http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_cookies.asp
Check it out if you still feel like this is something you want to do, disregarding the finger waving lecture of others.

  • Splash page with animated gif only question

    Hello all:
    I have a splash page (index.html) that is designed using an animated gif created in photoshop. The rest of my site is Css/XHTML, but has some divs containing animated gifs. I have two questions;
1: By using only the animated gif on the splash page, am I limiting or hindering my SEO (google, microsoft, yahoo) ranking opportunities as there is no "content" on the page that the spiders/bots can see? I went ahead and included some "content" but hid it by coloring the type the same as the background color hoping that might do something, but obviously I'm a SEO newbie so any suggestions are more than welcomed. I will include the code at the end of this post, and my site is: http://reynolds-marketing.com.
    2. Is there a way to pre-load the animated gifs on my pages so that they play more smoothly and efficiently?
TIA for any of your help. Murman

My guess is yes, but that is just my opinion.  I believe the text/background same color idea was really in vogue back in the late 90's and we all heard that it was the kiss of death for SEO that the SE's hated them so much you got de-listed, not sure if that is a fact or not.
My bigger concern would be how many people you are losing by making them wait to get to where they want to go.  I have told many a client that in some sense, the interent is too big, you have too much competition and people have thin patience for things like splash pages.  The ooo and aaa effect of animated gifs is long dead...again, in my opinion.
I dont know the answer to your load question...

  • Is there a way to create an intro splash page?

Is there a way to creat a intro splash page that people can click through to the home page? I need the actual homepage to stay as the index.html. Any solutions?

Please check this discussion and see if that helps you - html - how to force link from iframe to be opened in the parent window - Stack Overflow

  • I am unable to get beyond the "sync with iTunes" splash page after connecting my iPhone; every tab is grey. What gives?

I am unable to get beyond the "sync with iTunes" splash page after connecting my iPhone; every tab is grey. What gives?

Is the computer the one the device normally syncs with?
If not, sync with the computer it normally syncs with.
If it is, place the device in DFU mode (google it) and restore.

  • How do I make a splash page?

Well I am wanting to make a splash page  so would like  a lot of information about them so I can make a good one or good starter one and thank you in advance.

To make sure we're on the same page, do you mean a "splash page" as in a "graphic/whizbang rich, look what I can do style, first thing the visitor sees" page?
The best advice I can offer if that's what you mean is: Don't do it.
The days of the "splash page" are far behind us now. If you want the best possible rankings in the search engines, don't use up your most valuable website real estate on something the search engines can't see or ignore intentionally. Don't force your visitors to have to "go through all of that again" just to get to your actual content when they come back to your site.
Your home page should be filled with keyword rich AND relevant html text (not blocks of spammy keywords) so search engines have something to sink their teeth into. If you want to show off, make a portfolio section on your site and put all your "look what I can do" info and ideas there.

  • Splash page design in Ps CS6

    Hi,
I'm using Ps CS6 and I designed a splash page with animation and sound but am not sure how to export it so it can be an actual intro page? Can this be done or should I have created it using Flash?
    Still learning...go easy on me...LOL
    Thanks, Lee

If you are talking about a web page, then it's simply a terrible idea. There is nothing more off-putting than having to wait for the actual content to load and unnecessary fluff consuming your data quota on mobile devices. That and of course that especially in the latter case it will cause all sorts of technical issues. Flash is most definitely out of the questions as is loading arbitrary movie clips. If at all, this will have to be properly authored in Edge Animate or similar web-centric tools. Still, even then it will impact loading times and overall user experience and potentially bad Google ratings... Otherwise feel free to render whatever you have to an animated GIF or movie clip and integrate it into your web page, but you'll still have to learn web stuff to do it...

  • Splash page is not working for everyone

    Greetings All,
My client has received several complaints by customers that
    they can't see
the public website which opens automatically once the splash
    movie is
finished playing. They say that all they can see is a yellow
    screen. I
believe this might be due to the splash screen hanging when
    they don't have
flash or a corrupt flash installed. Can anyone shed some
    light on me as to
what might be the problem and a strategy toward fixing it.
The splash page seems to work fine on every computer I have
    tried.
I'd hate to have to remove the flash page but that is just
    what might have
to happen if I can't resolve this issue.
    Here's the link:

    Many thanks,

    I'm a little confused.
You have a splash intro flash movie that they *can* see but
they can't see the main site:
    http://www.groceryoutlets.com/home.aspx
the main site is not flash.
Is the issue that the redirect is never leaving the flash
    page?
hard to say without the ability to reproduce it.

  • Aperture 2.1.1 crashing prior to splash page opening.

Tried to open Aperture 2.1.1 this morning and it crashes before the splash page appears. This is the message that I get in the Console:
    dyld: Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager
    Referenced from: /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/MacOS/Aperture
    Reason: image not found
    Aug 9 10:44:23 shortave crashdump[302]: Aperture crashed
Aug 9 10:44:23 shortave crashdump[302]: crash report written to: /Users/thaddeus/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Aperture.crash.log
Any ideas? The Aperture library is fairly large (24 GB). I haven't messed with any of the settings or moved my Aperture library and was using Aperture the day before with no problems. Where do I go from here to troubleshoot?

Best thing to do when something like this happens is each of these steps, try launching the app in between each step as a way of isolating the problem.
    1. delete your Aperture preferences file, search for
    com.apple.Aperture.plist
    or look in
    system disk/users/user/library/preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist
    2. remove any plug-ins you have added
    3. launch the app holding down the option and command keys, this brings up a dialogue box allowing you to do a consistency check or to rebuild you library, either of which could be causing your problem
    4. run disk utility and "repair" the disk, also repair permissions on the system disk.
    Hope this helps

  • How can I get rid of the Introduction splash page that keeps popping up every time I open Firefox 4?

Wen I attempt to open Firefox 4, I keep getting a splash page before I can go elsewhere. It is particularly annoying when trying to access Links on my desktop, because the splash page prevents thelink from opening.

etresoft  a long time contributer to Apple Support Communities wrote a very useful app he called etrecheck which helps in diagnosing many problems caused by third party installs etc.. • Creating a title/"Splash Page"

I made a nice logo for my website and I would like to have it as a "splash page" where you click on the logo to enter the website.
The only problem is that my page, which I created using a blank webpage, still shows up in the main menu bar at the top of the webpage. Is there a way to get rid of that? I want you to see the splash page, but once you enter the site, I don't want you to be able to go back to it.
Is this even possible? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I solved my problem...I'm new to iWeb and I just discovered the wonders of the Inspector...You can make a page not show up in the navigation menu and you can create hyperlinks to other pages.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Guest wireless in 7.0.98 hitting the splash page

I have set up Guest wireless before with my own customized splash screen for local authentication on version 5.xx on a 4404 controller.
I have the same task again but this time with a 2201 controller and the latest ios.
Try as hard as I can i cannot get a guest wireless user to hit the splash page where it gives the certificate warning or past that to the login box.
Is there some subtle difference in the set up with 7.0.98. I did notice that when setting up the DHCP scope for the 7.0.98 i had to use the DHCP server IP as the managment interface. On my last try with 5.x I used the 192.168.80.1 address (the guest WLAN) So there is a difference right there.
Anyway the clients get an IP address so no issue there but i cannot get the cert warning up let alone the splash page. Eveidently there is a tick box I am missing. I wouldnt mide but having done this a few times before I am really stumped. I have wiped the config and started again going through my old notes step by step plus digging out the cisco documentation.
If there any debugging I can stick on please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Neil

Thank you :-) Hopefully I have captured everything you need.

  • WLC 5508 Web Auth Splash Page: Is it possible to place a download?

    Hi,
I know it is possible to create custom web auth splash pages on the WLC 5508. Is it also possible to embedd a small document (less than 1MB) that users can download directly from the controller? I need this for providing the terms of use for the Guest WLAN.
    Thanks
    Michael

It could be done, but you will want to stay within the limits of the WebAuth bundle size (~ <10MB I believe).  This shouldn't be a problem considering a .doc size, but I have to ask the same question.   Why would you want to do this as opposed to just putting your terms of use inline to the page as just text/html?  Maybe there is a good reason, but I can't really think of any scenario.  Feel free to elaborate.

  • Splash page and embedded custom fonts?

    Hi
Just wondering how I tag/name a splash/intro page for a website? For example say you have: home (index), about, gallery, contact. For every page you have them tagged the same so they link within the site. How or what do you name the splash/intro page?
Also, I have some custom fonts I want to use for my sites and am wondering how to embed them so they'll be seen on any browser? Is there a one for all code?
    Thanks,
    Lee

The use of "splash pages" has fallen out of common use (really starting back in the 90's) and should be avoided for search engine optimization reasons.
Don't waste the first page your viewer's see on a splash page with a big "whoopideedoo you found our site, look what I can do with javascript" type of effect/animation. The first page your viewers see should give them the info they need to make a decision on whether to keep clicking through your site. It's the most important page of your site, make sure it is full of relevant, keyword rich html text content. If you still want a big "rah-rah-sis-boom-bah" style effect for a first visit, put it in a modal window that shows on the viewer's first visit. Use javascript cookies to set it's css to display:none for future visits if you don't want it to pop up each time.

  • Is it possible to have a splash page that you only see once?

    Hello,
I was hoping to find out if it's possible to have a splash page for a sign up form that you would see just once. If you skip the sign up form it takes you to the regular site and you never see the splash page again. Is something like that possible?
    Here is an example http://internetbizfreedom.net/nmvt/
    Thank you very much!
    Jordan

    Hi Jordan,
You can achieve that using cookies. You display the page and when people submit the form you send them to the landing page and record a cookie in their browser for that submission. Next time they come back to the page you can read the cookie using JS and direct them automatically to the landing page if the cookie is present.
    Cheers,

  • Using a swf splash page with muse

    Hi,
I have a site that was done in Joomla and the start page is index.php, I created a swf that plays and animation and offers an "enter" button that tkaes you to the index.php. So when you go the the site the index.html plays the swf and then you click enter to get to the site... worked great.
I wanted to get away from joomla with all my sites so I redid this in muse and guess what, I can't figure out how to get the splash page to work. Any ideas?
The site is szemszem.com .... the original splash page is szemszem.com/index_old.html
    Thanks

    Hi Mike
