Skype for business - how do I get my chat groups?

My company just implemented Skype for business.  I have some chat groups in my previous version of Skype desktop.  How do I get those chat groups into Skype for business?
Thanks.

Hey!
you can use a permanent chat server with skype for business, for permanent chat rooms. But otherwise chats run the same way like with skype, you just add people to the conversation. when they leave the conversation, you have to add them again when you continue chatting.
One big issue is that you cannot yet do group chats with regular skype users. So once any normal skype user is in your chat, you cannot add anyone else. This is a missing feature they still have to implement.
And I also fear you will still not like the way the chat history is synced over different devices. So you will not have full chat history on different devices yet. This also affects your requested group chats, since skype for business will not auto-sync all chats on all devices.
I guess you have to wait a bit longer until the new mobile clients and mac clients are out to fix of the things above.
Cheers,
Florian

  • Skype for Business groups

My company uses Office 365 and Skype for Business.  We have several Groups defined in Exchange.  We can add those groups to Skype, but when the groups are updated as a result of turnover, those changes we do in the Exchange group do not flow down to the group I added in Skype.  Is there a way to automatically update the groups in Skype as we make the change in Exchange?  Thank you.

  • 306MB security update for Skype for Business

    Hi Microsoft or Community,
I went through a list of updates being shown by WIndows update (I'm on 8.1) and was stunned to see this
Security update for Skype for Business(KB3039779) 64Bit: 306MB
Security update for Skype for Business(KB3054946) 64Bit: 100.1MB
What's going on? What happened to the small and light messaging clients? I mean the above update is about 400MB that too, just security. Are you intending to update just skype or is this going to write all over the Windows 8 binaries.  I believe the messaging client has to be/can be less that 50MB in total. Use the media, networking and security layers of the host OS, don't rewrite these in the messaging client. In fact the design philosphy from mobiles should carry over.
The biggest advantage MS has here is that you write the OS too where the security and multi-media capabilities should logically be added. If the 400MB above is updating those capabilities then call it a windows update.
For now I will uncheck the update box, so I don't install the above two patches. Please escalate this to MS product management and add to your product roadmap to design and release a compact skype.
    Thanks and regards,
    A Samel

  • Enquiry on Skype For Business

    Hi There,
I'm Dan here. I would like to enquire regarding skype for business. Is it possible for my company to use skype as our company staff communication for messaging purposes only.(e.g Office Comunicator) And is it possible if we assign our IT staff to create account accordingly for our company staff and give relevant rights to individual users (e.g some user can use skype and connect with our clients overseas and some only can use to communicate with our internal staff only with no rights to add any outside contact.)
If there is such configuration what is the price for it. Will look forward to your reply.
    Thanks
    Regards
    Dan

  • Skype for Business Live Tile - How to clear count

I understand that when the live tile for Skype for Business shows a number, it means I had that many missed contacts.  But the question is "since when"? Since the last time I opened the app? If that's the intent, it doesn't seem to be working for me. My live tile always shows "6". If I open the app then exit it, the "6" disappears, but at some point in the future the "6" returns without any new missed contacts. So how do I "clear" the missed contact count so that it is actually meaningful? A related question is, how do I know what are the six missed contacts? If I scroll right to the "Recent" list, how do I know which of those contacts are counted as being among the six that were missed? If there is supposed to me some sort of "missed" indicator, I sure can't tell what it is. Any advice welcome! Thanks!

does anyone know if there is a way to actually speak to SKYPE? i would like to discuss different business options (I have spent 20 mins searching the website and internet for a contact us and resorted to this, much like google! ridiculous that you cannot speak to a human being !!!)

  • Getting contacts into Skype for Business

    Hi there,
I'm trying out the new Skype for Business, all installed great but I would like to import my previous contacts from my old Skype account.  How can I do this?  I appear to have no contacts at current.
    Nick.

It's okay I see now, I need to put them into my Office 365 contacts. As this is a new account there aren't any so I will use Outlook to export from my old account and then again to import them into my new account.

  • Lync 2013 - Skype for business User Interface

    Hello,
We are using Lync 2013 with Lync 2013 server with CU from August 2014 (so not ready for Skype for Business).
I have installed latest Desktop Updates for Windows and Office, and now everytime we log on we get the Skype for Business UI with the question to restart the client with the Lync UI.
I have followed the recommendation in this article:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx
    I have set this:
In the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync] key, create a new
    Binary value.
The Value name must be  EnableSkypeUI, and the
Value data   must be set  to 00 00 00 00.
But this settings seems to be completely ignored... doesn't do anything.
We can't set the policy on the server, as the server is not yet up-to-date and doesn't know about a Skype UI policy.
Can somebody please tell me how I can start the updated Lync / Skype for Business client with the Lync UI as a default (without disturbing the user with the restart-the-client pop-up)?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
As mentioned the Lync Server is not up-to-date, based on my knowledge this is why the issue occurs.
Please refer to this article below:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx
You can configure the client experience only if you are running Lync Server 2013 with the December 2014 Cumulative Update (5.0.8308.857) or later installed. The latest one is:
KB 3036869 February 2015 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.871 for Lync Server 2013 Core Management Server.
You can specify the client experience the users in your organization will see by using the
Set-CSClientPolicy cmdlet with the EnableSkypeUI parameter:
    Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableSkypeUI $true

  • Skype for business questions

    Hello,
One of our customers is planning to implement Skype for Business in their infrastructure with 150+ users. They have some questions regarding Skype and we are unable to answer some of them, so i kindly ask you to assist us with the answers of those questions:
Is it possible to block all external users (contacts, messages and free skype calls) and comunicate only with the internal employees?
Is it possible to block (centraly) the options to change the address book or the settings in Skype?
Is there a option to have centraly managed history log?
Are there any additional fees for the implementation and how much SkypeOut $ credit is required to enable Skype for Buisness?
    Thank you and best regards,
    Zhivko Zhekov

Is it possible to block all external users (contacts, messages and free skype calls) and comunicate only with the internal employees?
Yes. Let you configure your company's firewall/router to only allow connections on a certain port thats routed via LAN and have all internal users set alternative port for Skype.
I'll assume with the above question, each Skype ID doesn't have any external contacts already incorporated into each account for company use only.
More details on what ports are required for Skype:
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA148/which-ports-need-to-be-open-to-use-skype-for-windows-desktop
If they using Mobile version of Skype, that could get trickier as they probably would still be connected different service provider giving them external access on ports if logged into Skype in two places at once. *I haven't tried this but that's what I would suggest*
    Thanks,
    Kent C.

  • Skype for Business issue

After installing Skype for Business Preview everything seemed to work perfectly. After restarting the PC again the new interface didn’t load again and the old Lync 2013 interface appeared but with the new skype icon and the new emoticons.
How can I get the new interface back?

    Hi BrandonSHall,
I have make it work permanently :) tested by restarting system :), given below steps will help you to set Skype for bushiness even it's disabled by Admin or you are on Lync server 2013.
    1) Open registry --> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync\EnableSkypeUI
    change value from 0000  00 00 00 00 to 0000  00 00 00 10.
    2) now go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Lync --> right click --> permission
--> click on add --> deny "everyone" --> apply -->
Now restart your system and check.  steps are funny but this will work for everyone.
    please check and revert.

  • Skype for Business - Cannot see shared screens, bu...

I just started a new job and am required to use Skype for Business.  I downloaded Skype for Business 32 bit.  My PC is 64 bit but because I already have other Office 32 bit programs, I cannot install the 64 bit version.
Everything in Skype for Business appears to work properly, except for the fact that I cannot see someone else's screen when they've shared it with me.  When someone shares their screen with me, all that I can see is the empty white box where their desktop should be.  When I share my screen with others, they can see my desktop correctly.
What other information is needed to help diagnose this issue?  I really need this functionality in order to do my job properly.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I was using Lync as part of the offerings found on Office 365 and I was prompted to "upgrade" to Skype for Business and so I did per the suggestion.  Lync had screen sharing, Skype for Business currently does not have screen sharing!  This is a major dissapointment.  Who is the product manager and why the premature roll-out?  This is incredebly frustrating as most all my clients leverage Lync (their own install on their servers... have not upgraded yet.. lucky for them) and screen sharing is an important part of my interaction.  It took many of my clients a long time to master Lync and therefore, it is incredebly challenging to teach them how to use an alternative tool over the phone.  I feel incridebly duped.  My clients can share with me however, I cannot share with them.  What is the current timeframe for enabling (re-enabling) this functionality?  How can I get back Lync?   Is there a beta release of the next version?  Finally, how can this be called "Skype for Business" when a core aspect of the tool to conduct "business" had been stripped away without warning?

  • Skype for Business Client update

    Hi,
First of all let me get this out of the way "Microsoft Office 365 support sucks".
    now the simple question:
If office proplus is installed via portal (through on-click run), how does it get the update for skype for business?
I have over 1000 users and its not feasible to run the updates via an office application on each machine.
(Note: getting update does not mean UI change. it simply means the client is updated and ready to accept the UI once it is allowed via csclientpolicy in a update Lync server environment).
(Note 2: the useless O365 support says it will come through windows updates; I have done multiple tests on different test machines and that is not correct. Another technet says office proplus updates are done through scheduled tasks. Even if the office automatic
update task runs, the client does not get updated with new Skype for Business.)

    Hi Atif7865,
    Please check out this thread
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/t/345370.aspx
“Q2. Where can I download Skype for Business since it does not appear to be included with the Office365 download file? ====================== A2. You need to manually update your Office application,
then you will be able to upgrade to Skype for Business. You can to do this on your Outlook client: Open your Outlook client ->
    FILE ->
    Office Account ->
    Apply updates”
And this issue is more related to Office 365 application,
we would like to give a hand, but we are not the specialists in this filed. Thanks for your understanding.
    Best regards,
    Eric
