Skype ready home phone

what is a skype ready phone?

That sounds like marketing lingo to mean that the device in question has the ability to sign into the Skype service.  An RTX 4088 is an example of a Skype ready home phone.

Hi, I have a skype enabled home phone.  I would like to use this phone for a emergency calls and for my husband to call when he can't reach me on my cell phone.  Do I need an online number for this?  I am not really sure how to use it.  It was a gift.  We have not had a home phone line to avoid having to pay a monthly bill so please let me know if there is a cost to this.
    Thank you for your help!

As far as I know, Skype-compatible hardware devices tend to remain online. The only time they aren't:
    1. There is a setting in that device that forces it to another state.
    2. You change the state in another Skype client either manually or automatically (when idle) and that updates the online status of your account. This then toggles your online state for the hardware device as well. So if your Skype client is toggled to Away, that may be causing the issue.
I personally leave myself in online at all times. I have nothing set to change any of my states and my hardware device is always online. I generally receive all my calls.

  • Skype ready cordless phone purchase

i recently bought the skype ready cordless phone  with plan for $104+, since then i have not received any confirmation email or anything of the sort saying when i will get my phone.

  • 220v skype home phone?

I currently live in Europe and just ordered the 31591GE1 phone for my house.   There was mixed data on if the voltage transformer/adaptor would operate on 220V.  Now that I have received it, I can clearly read it is 110v only.  Is there a Skype cordless home phone that is 220v ready and is comperable to the 31591GE1?

  • Does: home phone adapter + online number = ability...

i have not found any information that says specifically that non-skype callers can call you via a home phone adapter or a Skype-ready cordless phone.  I know you can call out, but what about receiving calls?  Anyone here have a skype-ready cordless phone?

I'm also considering buying phone adapter.  And to get a phone # attached to it to be able to receive any regular call on the phone (not on the computer) - do I just get an online number - is there any other option?
I did not find any related info in FAQs, etc.

  • Using home phone for Skype

can I use a home phone(landline) to make and recieve calls from mobiles or landlines? I do not want to use the computer all the time to make calls. I want my daughter to be able to call friends and family with a basic home phone.
    Thank you

Here is a different but excellent solution. My internet router contains a built-in facility that allows it to 'log in' to any internet phone number (not just Skype), and calls ring on a standard DECT cordless handset (or a wired telephone). Does same for outgoing calls as well. It's very versatile.
Skype will rent you an internet phone number (but not cheap) but I suggest using a service from http://www.localphone.com/?rb=sN5bXhfv1nxSJQl6oRD9K30iNkAOCq6vKbL9cuLDf_E . Their internet phone numbers are free; dialing to any country is cheap; and you can rent a dial-in number in many countries for about $1 per month. Forwarding to the internet phone number is free, as is the router picking up the call. As the people whoi call me have free calls to my number, the only cost is the $1 monthly line rental. EXCELLENT!
My router is a German-made Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7390, but many of their other models have similar functionality (7490, 7360, 7330, 7272 - look for logos for 'DECT' and 'Telefonie' at http://avm.de/produkte/fritzbox/  . You can order from Amazon (DE, CO.UK or COM at least)

  • Well known scam called my home phone from a Skype ...

    Hi,
Recently I have been contacted 2 or 3 times a day at my home phone number from 'Computer Maintenance Department' or 'Windows Department', claiming my computer was sending them error messages. The latest phonecall came from Skype number 001 956 460 5604.
This is a well known scam where the perpetrators aim to convince their victims that their computer has a virus and then persuade them to allow remote access in order to 'fix' the problem.
As this came from a Skype number, how do I go about reporting this?

Let me add to my earlier response.   DO not even attempt to discuss this matter with comcast or their techs. They simply are unaware of the problem and can do nothing to fix it. Call Neustar at the number I gave you in ealrier post..  Tell them the problem and either have them delete your cellphone number from their data base or set the caller id to show city, state and your number.  Deletion is probably better. Tech at Neustar did this told it would take effect in two hours and the problem was gone in 5 minutes. I am sick and tired of disconnects, talking to techs at comcast who barely can speak english, mumble, one told me today to go to the website and disable call blocking from my cell then call  home and then reenable it after making the call.  LMAO!   Yeah, while driving down the road. This afternoon I got a call from a  rather arrogant tech who didn;t want to hear the problem, didn;t undertand the problem and tried to blame the problem on my cell service.  No problem when I call anyone outside of Comcast and it was corected once before .   So the problem is with your cell phone number listing at Neustar.  Since Comcast uses Neustar for their caller id numbers they should be be able to delete or correct entires but apparently cannot.   Good Luck, my days with comcast are limited.

  • Submit: Great Skype for Windows Phone ideas

We have just launched a new Windows Phone idea board to let you all share and exchange your ideas on how to improve and develop Skype for Windows Phone.
Before you start sharing your ideas, here are some guidelines to help you get started:
    Idea Submission Guidelines
Search before posting. Do a quick search and make sure you are not submitting a duplicate. If the idea already exists show your support by giving kudos to the original idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions.
Draft your idea. Be as clear as possible, tell us what your idea is, how it would benefit users and why you think we should consider it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly another way. Please avoid text speak and keep the idea short and to the point. Ideas are available within a limited number of topic sections of the community as they are not discussion threads.
Currently you can choose one of the following topic labels for your ideas:
    Video Messaging
We‘ve just launched Video Messaging on Windows Phone so you can now send video messages to family and friends, even when they’re not online. Let us know what you think of Video Messaging on Windows Phone and any ideas you have for how we can make it better.
    Phone Integration
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Contacts
How can we make it easier for you to find friends and family on Skype and add them as a contact? What are your thoughts on how contacts are managed on Skype for Windows Phone? Do you have any recommended improvements?
    Calling
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Instant Messaging
Video calling is one of Skype’s most popular features. What do/don’t you like about Video calling on Skype for Windows Phone and do you have any ideas for how we can make video calling even better?
    Some things to include:
    Start with a clear title
    add appropriate label(s)
    list features and benefits
Review the ideas of others. Look at other ideas to see what your fellow community members are requesting and feel free to exchange on them in the comments section. While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
Add value. Vote for those items that you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudos. It's really a significant way to recognize someone's effort. We are using votes as a barometer to find out more about what our contributor community thinks is important, so we can factor this into our prioritization process.
Submit a new idea. Adding an idea is just like posting a message on a board. To create an idea, click on the “New Idea” button, located on the left side of the page content tab, and in the left column under the actions heading click “create an idea”. Be sure to enter a clear title and description of your idea so others can decide how they would like to vote. Remember, the more complete your thought, the more likely it is to get noticed! You can use simple HTML, format the text, or add links or images. You can also preview your idea and check your spelling before you post the idea.
Do not be discouraged. Sometimes what seems simple may not be so simple to build. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.
Be respectful. Comply with the Community Guidelines and Skype etiquette.

Not right now - We like the idea but just not for right now, we will revisit it in the future.
Implemented - You asked for it, we did it!
My idea has been accepted. How long will it take to be implemented?
Sadly, we will not be able to provide dates for the implementation of any accepted ideas within the community due to the number of factors involved. Please be patient and let us make sure it is completely ready before we make it available.
How will I know if an idea has been implemented?
You can track the status of your ideas as your ideas are sent to the people here at Skype who can make them happen and you will see the status of your idea is updated. We will be telling you if the idea is something we are working on now or would like to do in the future, or if it’s something that is not feasible for us at this time. To ensure you don’t miss any updates select “Subscribe” from the “Idea Options” menu when viewing your idea.
What ideas have been implemented so far?
You can check "Accepted and Implemented ideas" topic here.
Can I edit or delete my ideas comments?
No, you can't. Be sure to check your spelling and preview your comment before you post it; you can't edit a comment once it's posted.
Who and how often moderates/ manages the ideas board?
The community team is monitoring the board on the daily basis and product managers will come in on a monthly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
I have an idea to improve the Windows Phone software itself?
Microsoft has set up a Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box for exactly that purpose. Share your idea here: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com
If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
    No.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include areTake a photoChoose from albumsSearch from webDeleteThat appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

  • The FREETALK Connect•Me Home Phone Adapter for Sky...

    Hi all,
I am seriously considering dropping my landline since I mostly if not only uses my iPhone as my primary device for calls. The problem I have is an alarm system is connected to my land line and requires a way to call the alarm centre in case of an emergency.
I talk to my alarm service provider for an alternative. They already have the cellular option, but it adds $12/m which is not a big saving... They are working on finding an IP/Internet solution, but it will be also a $4/m.
I was wondering if I could use the FREETALK Connect•Me Home Phone Adapter for Skype as a solution. From a computer I can call any 1-800 numbers for free, and I really suspect that the alarm centre is a toll free number too. So in theory it could work.
Can anyone share their experience with the device and suggest if my solution can work or not?
    Thanks

I use that adapter in my house, it works just as a normal landline would.  There is a slightly longer predial delay when initiating a call (approx 3 second Skype dialing noise), beyond that no real difference.  If the box doesn't lock up, or your Internet doesn't go down it should be rather reliable as a replacement.  Those are worst-case scenarios and I generally don't find myself having to do anything to maintain it.  In any case I have it connected to a power surge strip like I do the rest of my equipment.  Should I need to reset it, I just toggle the switch.

  • CAN I BUY A PANASONIC SKYPE READY BLU RAY PLAYER A...

CAN I BUY A PANASONIC SKYPE READY BLU RAY PLAYER AND USE LOGITECH SKYPE CAMERA TOGETHER? ARE THEY COMPATIBLE? OR DO PANASONIC PLAYERS ONLY WORK WITH PANASONIC WEB CAMERAS ON SKYPE?

Following 2 yrs of thread here and just having been given a new Panasonic BD110 3d Blu Ray with a Skype button on its remote, DNLA, built in WiFi, ethernet, BBC i-Player, YouTube etc.  I set it up and went thru BluRays, DVD's, HDMI, sound etc.   I was impressed, so I bought a decent webcam and plugged it in - nothing happened.   Read the manual, did everything spot on, nothing!  Pana's web site, Skype, Bing, Google, customer "support", confusion all round.
It seems Panasonic don't now sell either of their own cameras (discontinued? binned? still supported? forgotten? hoping we'll forget) - but the Blu Ray/Skype models are still for sale.  If this concept had been made to work, it would have been world beating!!  Otherwise a recall and refund or upgrade offer should be made.   There's been no apology or explanation that I can find.
This is a scandal from such a reputedly "high end" manufacturer that makes stuff for hospitals even!!   And it has published DNLA and other approvals that clearly are not true.
I'll be in touch with Panasonic again and try escalating the issue, though it seems Japan knows about it and are keeping quiet in the hope the problem will fizzle out.   We should individually contact the technical press and their web sites and also raise Caine under a Trade Descriptions breach.   Making a warranty claim is fully justified too.
We don't know how many they sold and how many want that feature but I'll bet many thousands were made.  So if a big enough bunch of us complain we should be able to make life uncomfortable for the idiots who failed us, their own employees, some important business partners, the Standards folks, and the poor souls who have to speak to us on the phone or across the Argos & Curry's counters.
    Best regards

  • How reliable is home phone connect with weak signal strength?

I live in an area that for the first year had decent signal strength.  It was never strong but for the past 4 months my cell phones frequently can't make or receive calls.  I complained to Verizon so much they finally gave me a network extender and now the service in my home is fine.  My question is about a home phone connect for my Mother next door.  She doesn't have internet so she can't have a network extender and mine won't reach that far (about 100 yards).  I am able to make and receive calls at her house on my cell about 80% of the time, about the same as my house before the network extender.  I just have a basic LG phone and I usually have 1 bar of service down there, never more.  I have asked the sales people at Verizon and they all say SURE the home phone direct will work fine.  It has a better antenna and transmitter than your cell phone.  You won't have a problem.  Has anyone had similar experience with using the home phone connect in a marginal signal area?  If so did it have substantially better signal strength than a cell phone?  My son has a new IPhone 4S and he always has a better signal than my little cheapie.

THANKS for the reply.  I went to the Verizon store today and picked one up.  I have a 14 day trial where it can be returned for a full refund if it doesn't  work.  The $35 activation fee is supposed to be nonrefundable but the guy said if it doesn't work right off the bat to call him (within a couple of days) and he could stop the activation without any charges.
In response to lewisr13 I don't have a home phone direct, only 3 cells at my house with the network extender.  I have a very poor signal on my cell at my Moms house.  She can't have a network extender because she doesn't have internet.
Anyway I brought the unit home today and walked all over her house.   Sometimes I had one signal (out of 3) and about half the time I didn't have any.  Of course when I had none I could not make or receive a call.  I was about ready to box it up and take it back when I decided to go to an outside utility room, where I intended to mount it in the first place.
Low and behold there is a spot on the east facing wall of the utility room where it has TWO signals.  If I move it more than 3-4 inches in any direction I lose one of them.  It's been about an hour and so far they have glowed blue without blinking as long as I don't move it.  Of course the phone works fine as long as they stay that way.
I am both pleased and worried.  Pleased that it is performing so well and worried that it won't remain that way.  The guy at the Verizon store was extremely helpful and told me to call him with any questions or problems.  I called him and asked if he thought the signal would remain that way.  He said he thought it would but didn't really know for sure.  I have got my fingers crossed and will watch it very closely for the 14 days.  Just my luck on the 15th day it might be lights out.
I hope not - I am looking so forward to porting her AT&T number to Verizon and saying Adios to Ma Bell and her whole family.  My Mother is 86 years old and has had phone service for about 55 years.  She's never been late with a payment in all those years and when she called them with a problem they treated her like &$#@%.

  • I want my land line, home phone as my caller ID, h...

This is 2012.  I'm out of work and money.  I only have a home phone with local service only.  I have to use Skype for my 1 or 2 long distance calls per month.  I'd like my home phone to be my caller ID.  I can't receive txt messages that way, but I'd at least have a return number for those to see who it is.  Everyone on the internet from google, youtube and "you name it", wants a cell phone number and I can't even afford anything, whether it's a cell phone or an "unused" extra number for a fee.  I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have businesses hang up on me because they think they are being pranked because of what they see on their screens when I call.  In Los Angeles, two miles from my house can be a long distance call.  Please Help those of us that are sincerely poor!!!!  It would only take you 2 seconds longer to call my house for me to verify my land line.  I would even be happy if you only did it for me.  Please quit being so greedy and realize some of us are at "Rock bottom".  In other words,  no matter what, I'm not paying for anything else.  Even though I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, not one more penny is being spent on anything.  I have none.  I already possess a return number and I'd like to use that one.

I have the same question for a different reason. Your text implies that we can use our land line numbers for Caller ID but the implementation doesn't allow it. Why not? i have a cell phone but don't want most people knowing or using it because it's rarely on and each call is separately charged. I want any callbacks to be on my land line. How do I make Caller ID show my land line number?

  • I have a wireless home phone connect device. Can call out on it when dial tone present, but most times cannot receive calls since purchase. Anyone else having a  problem with their home connect device?

Have had Wireless Home Phone connect device refreshed and updated three times since I purchased it in September 2014. Last tech I worked with on it initialized an NRB to check the network. I checked the location of the tower, which is less than one mile up the hill with clear line of site. The device always has two antennas on it. The device is great when it does work, but most of the time it rings three times and then jumps to an automated message saying the person I am calling is not available. I've actually gone up there several times to try an fix the device, but always end up calling a Verizon tech who has me unplug it, pull the battery, and they do some network stuff and then we turn it back on and it works. After the last time on 10/02/14, I called it and got the message. I drove up there, 100 miles one way, and called it while standing in the room. Got the same message. I picked up the phone, heard a dial tone and dialed my phone and it range through. I hung that phone connected to the device and call it using my cell phone. It rang through. I went home and tried to call it the next day. Again it did not ring through and I got the message after three rings. I call another phone at the facility and had them call me on my mom's phone and it is fixed it again. The fix last for a day or two and then it's broken again, like it is today. If it's a network problem then it must be fairly close to the area because no matter what we do it fails again. So much for the 99.98% reliable. This thing is a piece of junk!
I purchased this device and put it on my plan so that my mother who we placed in a home at 96 years old would have a phone connection that she could use and wouldn't flip her out. My family and her family has not been able to faithfully connect with her at this critical time in her life. I am giving Verizon 10 more days to figure this out and then I am going to ask for a total refund not to mention how much time and travel I have put into this piece of junk. Either the home connect transceiver is broken or the network is broken. Why should I pay close to $70 for a service that has not worked more than several days out of 35 days? Also I have spent close to three hours on the phone with decent technical people, but it's my time. I should send Verizon a bill for every time I have gone up there to fix this device as well.
What perplexes me is that a regular cell phone would have sufficed, but because Verizon has to have a data connection that is not available on a regular phone and it was going to cost me $30/month, I decided to go with the home connect. Seemed like a nice solution for an older person who would have a hard time using a cell phone and keeping it charged. Plus after all the fees for getting it connected, it only cost $20/month. That would be a pretty good thing, IF IT WORKED....... The other thing that irks me is, why do I have to pay for a data connection when the cell phone Verizon originally provided can't even access the network. What ever happened to adding a phone line for $10 bucks\ month? All I wanted was a simple phone. She would not be able to use anything more complex and all she needs is a phone line period.
I have no problem paying for something that works and does what it should, but this is ridiculousness. The MTF on this device is somewhere around 1 to 2 days. Out of 365 days that's about a 96.5% failure rate....... Want my advice? Get ride of this device. It sucks and it's bad marketing.

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Home Phone Service via Verizon Wireless needs some SERIOUS rethinking!

Has anyone else signed up for home phone service over Verizon Wireless?
Here in LA, they offered a $19.99/month deal using the wireless service - a box provides the service, and you plug your home phone in. The service is adequate, but somebody forgot to think about how home phones work. I tried to get my billing set up through my bank, and after getting no notice for three weeks, I got a message in my email box that my bill was delinquent, and I owed a late fee. I had tried to set up the billing via My Verizon, but could never get a password to work. I finally got a phone number to call, and they sent me a new password via text message - to a home phone with no text capabilities. After hearing and seeing nothing for another two weeks, I called again, and they told me they'd sent the message. I had to remind them that this was a home phone - no texts. So they offered to send me a letter with a new password, within 7-10 ten days. It arrived two weeks later, and didn't work. Each of these phone calls took about an hour, and I still didn't have a connection.
I put the bills (now up to two delinquent cycles) on my credit card, just to bring thins current, and got one more password. This time I called BEFORE trying it, and with the assistance of a more determined tech, got an ID and password combination to work. I can now see my bill. I still don't know if the autopay will work, and I have no idea if there's any way to get a notice that the bill wasn't paid.
I cancelled my AT&T service because of its cost, but at least its billing worked. Verizon has some serious rethinking to do about how it's billing system works for home users. And they didn't lock me into billing hell for two years.
The topper is, today, I got a notice from Verizon that I've been delinquent in returning a refurbished instrument I never received, billed to a phone number I don't have. And of course there's no phone number to call to straighten it out.

        Hello KeyGroupGJ!
Wow, Im sorry for all the issues you have had with the Home Phone Connect service! I'd really like to assist you. You mentioned that there is no number to call to get this straightened out. No worries, there is no need to call us, since I can reach out to you. Please send me a direct message with your name, your mobile number, and a good contact number for you. I'll be happy to assist you!
