Slideshow with Scene Selection - Possible?

Hi all,
I am trying to create a slideshow with jpegs in Encore and would like to add a chapter selection menu for each slide. I can't figure out how to do this in Encore, is this possible? Can I also add music to the slideshow?
Thanks in advance!
- Hunter

Is there any way to add buttons so I can have all my selections on 1 page?
Yes. As Ann says, you can do this in Photoshop. As she points out, study the Layer structure of one of the Library Menus closely. The little symbols at the beginning of the Layers' names are very important. Also, study the various Layers within the Button Layer Sets. They too have specialized naming conventions, that must be followed, and be sure to turn the Visibility OFF for any Highlight Layer (Button Sub-picture Highlight). These will be turned on, when your user navigates to that Button.
Also, there is a limit to the number of Buttons that one can have on a Menu, by the DVD-specs. IIRC, it's 32 for 4:3 Menus and 16 for 16:9 Menus. Not sure if those exact limits apply to BD Menus, but we're talking DVD-Video here, and not BD.
Also, when you look at the Menu .PSD in Photoshop, pay special attention to the order of the Button Layer Sets. Button #1 will be at the bottom of the Layers Palette, with Button #2 above it, and so one. This also establishes the Button Routing, i.e. what happens when you press the arrow keys on a DVD player's remote.
In Encore, you can alter the Button Routing to do whatever you want. I believe that Button Routing is only Automatic in PrPro. You might want to check this out. Unfortunately, I have used PrPro for authoring only rarely, and rely on Encore for all but simple Auto-Play DVD-Videos.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.

  • Is it possible to publish an iPhoto slideshow with the music?

Is it possible to publish a slideshow with music so others can hear the music as well as see the photos? Thanks. (I have a MobileMe account).

An alternative method to put the slideshow up for others to view is to import the QT movie back into iPhoto and put it in a MobileMe gallery and publish.
If the movie is large still another alternative is to import the movie into iMovie and share it from there to a MMe account where you can select multiple sizes so those with slower internet connections can choose a smaller version to play. The following screenshot is the export window from iMovie:
*+NOTE: This screenshot is from the iLife 09 iMovie. I don't remember if the iLife 08 iMovie has the same export options.+*
What you will get is this type of MMe gallery: iMovie 09 to MMe.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Is it possible to create a slideshow with the theme "Places" ?

    Hello,
I used to create slideshows with the theme "Places" in Iphoto and I can't find it in Photo.
    Is it still possible ?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    According to this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/product_specs/
You’ll need to upgrade to at least v6 for a calendar.
Cards and calendars are available only for users of versions of iPhoto 6 or later.

Cannot select a music into slideshow and book slideshow presentations. In the older Mac this was easy. With new Mac OS X 10.6.8 it should work as I can stop the slideshow with cursor but pop up window for choosing music is dead. I cannot drag music into it. Preselected music just goes on.

I am talking about iPhoto. In my old Mac even in Books choosing slideshow gives a pop up where you can select a music from I tunes library. In this new one I can stop the slideshow with cursor and it shows music option but it is, as I said dead. Does not response at all to commands.

I bought a movie on iTunes and when it loads up I can only play the bonus features and not the actual film. The title screen is also glitched and merges with the scene selection. I don't think it downloaded properly. what can I do?

It happens sometimes. Delete the current copies, don't hide from iTunes in the cloud if prompted, close iTunes, reopen, download from iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
While downloading click the download icon at the top right and uncheck Enable simultaneous downloads. You may find it more reliable that way.

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.
    read on
Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • Some of my scenes selection menus won't turn or play sound.

My main menu and the first scene selection menu has motion and sound, but the rest of the scene selection menus do not turn or play sounds (music).  How can I get them to work?

First create a disk image of the project and see if those menus work as expected when played with DVD Player on your Mac.  If they do then the problem lies in the burning process.
Follow the workflow described below to help assure the best quality disk possible:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How to: Horizontal slideshow with parts of previous and next images

I want to make a slideshow with 6 images in it. The centre image is fully visible, the previous and next images, you can only see parts of it. When you click on the button for previous and next the image swipes tot the centre. Is this possible in Muse, and how???
I dont want to show the slideshow in the full background( yellow area in the screenshot) but only in the main container.(see image below)

"Previous" and "Next" buttons are for selecting the next or previous menu in a series of submenus for multiple chapter selection. Look at the options for indexing that creates multiple submenus for the chapters in a timeline.

  • Scene Selection Menu Question

I will try and make this question as unconfusing as possible. I have a DVD with a basic menu screen. It offers to play the whole film or go to the scene selection menu. When I go to the scene selection menu obviously I have the option to do just that. When I select a scene (or chapter) it will play it. My question is, if I have picked the wrong scene or I just want to go back to the scene selection menu, how do I make that happen? If I press menu it will just take me back to the main menu. It seems tedious to do it that way to keep having to go back to the main menu then to the scene selections menu. In short
What do I need to do to make the dvd go back to the scene selections menu when it was the last one selected?

What do I need to do to make the dvd go back to the scene selections menu when it was the last one selected?
You can also program the remote control's functions specifically for your DVD. It's not easy to understand in the manual but it's all explained. For instance, you could program the TITLE or MENU keys to return specifically to the scene selection menu. The problem with changing the programming is that's how the key will work for your entire disk unless, of course, you can figure out how to use the user memory registers and write a little script that will have conditionals.

  • Photo "Slideshow" with Premier Pro CS3?

I've been given about 400 jpeg files to create a self-running video (bride and groom family pics) to run during a wedding. I'd like to imbed music to accompany the photos.
A - is it feasible to do this with PP?
    B - suggestions for dos adn don'ts
C - What file format should I use to run this on a VCR/DVD player?
D - Do I just import MP3 music files and stuff them in the audio track?
E - I'm the father of the bride, and so there's no money involved--no music royalties to worry about, right?
I've started a PP project with 4 photos, cropping them beforehand with Photoshop to a consistent size (4x6) and file size (under 400kb) and used PP's "scale to frame size" option. They run okay in the program panel
I'll export these 4 to Encore and produce an MPEG, which will run on a VCR/DVD player, right?
    Any tips are appreciated.
    Merci beaucoup!

I'll agree with Eddie, with these addenda:
I'd not use MP3 as the file format for the Audio. If you are ripping from CD, then go with PCM/WAV. This will be at 44.1 KHz, and PrPro will easily handle the upconversion to 48KHz for DVD. If the Audio comes from iTunes, etc., and is already in MP3, watch out for any embedded "album art," as this has caused many problems for others in the past. As for E, I plead the same - as this depends and I'm not a lawyer either.
For the images, I'd resize (in Photoshop in my case) to the exact size required. If you're going to DVD, then that would be my first choice (720x480 PAR-0.9 for NTSC). If I need to pan/zoom, then I would resize those particular images to the exact dimensions that I needed. In Photoshop, one can create an Action to resize an entire folder. If I have some different sizes (due to pan/zoom), I'd put them into different folders to do the appropriate resizing. I am less a fan of PrPro's resizing algorithms, and opt for Photoshop's instead. I find the quality to be a bit better and the processing load on PrPro to be lessened a bit. Also, as I do my pans/zooms by hand, and specifically for the individual image, I know beforehand exactly how large/small the image will be. All of this is done, before I Import the image(s) into PrPro.
Just wrapping up a "slideshow" with what has become 1900+ still images (up from the original 1400), and PrPro (plus Photoshop) does a great job.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS remember to set the Duration of the stills, before you Import into PrPro. You can alter the Duration (by hand), for any that need more, or less, but decide on the main Duration BEFORE Import. Then, remember to reset the Preferences, should you alter it from what you might normally want.
PPS depending on how you wish to display the DVD footage, you can create a "looping" video in Encore by doing a Playlist and setting the End Action to the video's Timeline. Otherwise, you can do a traditional DVD with the scene selection Menus, etc..

  • IPhoto Slideshow with Music to MobileMe

Is it possible to upload a slideshow with music background to MobileMe, so that the music selected in for the slideshow also plays in MobileMe?

You need to export the slideshow as a QuickTime movie and then upload that to MobileMe. And you need the permissions from the copyright owners for the music, of course.

  • Slideshow with soundtrack

Is it possible when creating a web gallery through iPhoto or when you have a My Album Page in iWeb to have a song played during the slideshow?
    Thanks,

Bruno ~ To create an efficient "movie" slideshow with music, in iPhoto, select your photos and choose File > Export > QuickTime tab. Then select your options for Images, Background and Music. Then click on the Export button and save it to your Desktop. Then drag the .mov file from there to your iWeb page.
You can click the Play button in the movie controller to see how it looks, but before publishing you'll probably want to uncheck "Show movie controller" in iWeb's Inspector > QuickTime tab.
You can also drag that .mov file back into iPhoto and publish it to your .Mac Web Gallery where it will appear under the Albums section.
Or, if you import that .mov file into iMovie and publish to your .Mac Web Gallery from there, it will appear under the Movies section.
Other ideas can be found in this old thread:

  • Add scene selections under more than one menu

I have created a menu which has:
    - Play movie -
    - Scene Selection -
    - Extras -
Within "Scene Selection" there are 6 scenes to choose from.
However, I would like to be able to select scenes (which are differnt to the 6 scenes in Scene Selection) from the "Extras" menu as well.
    Is this possible ?
Do I have to edit the menus somehow ?

Alas not possible with Elements. You need a program like Adobe Encore do more complexed menus.
The dvd menus in Elements are set up in a special way that cannot be changed. I tried changing the prefixes and things like that, but Elements won't have it. If you can work with Photoshop (I am not sure if you can accomplice this with Photoshop Elements) you can make your own dvd menus with your own designer buttons. Copy a menu from the dvd directory and study its structure.

  • After Movie Plays, Returns back to Scene Selections? How to Fix?

It seems that this would be an easy fix via the Menu Map, however, I could not get it to work.
How do you get the movie to return to the Main Menu after the movie is over? Currently it goes to the Scene Selection screen.
    OR
Does it go back to the menu that you started from? Is there any way to control this without going to DVD Studio Pro?
    Thanks for your help!
    RL8

    Hello RL8,
I haven't tried this out, but it would seem logical to me that it returns to the menu you have started from.
If you want to set the jump/return commands manually, you can do so in DVDSP. Another possibility might be to do some post production with mDVDedit: http://www.mydvdedit.com
    hope this helps
