Slip the sync in a merged clip

Hello,
I have tried to search everywhere, but couldn't find a answer. I have used Sync n Link to batch sync a feature film. Now i'm checking every take to see if it's really sync, and a lot of times it's 1 frame off.
It would be great if you can change the sync of a merged clip somehow. I couldn't find how to do this, wouldn't this be a really handy option voor FCP. Also a batch sync solution in FCP would be really appreciated...
So the question is: Is it possible to slip the relation between the audio and video of a merged clip (with a few frames). (i'm aware you can do it it in the timeline, but then it's going to give the red boxes that's its out of sync, and i don't want that.)

Hi Kevin,
There is a way!  I just figured it out!
I have my extracted audio in the clip bin where it should be after I "edit audio in Adobe Audition."  I then unlinked just my audio clips with the track selection tool as they were on the same track.  Then I relinked the audio to the extracted enhanced audio file and BAM!  It worked!
Figuring this out just saved me hours possibly days of manually replacing these audio clips!

  • CC 7.2: out of sync indicator on merged clips - possible to hide / set?

With the CC 7.2 update, existing projects have turned into a mess of out-of-sync indicators on merged clips (DSLR video with separate audio sources, synced using PluralEyes). In previous versions, Premiere apparently accepted, or ignored, merged clips for sync indicator purposes, but now it seems to have decided to assume that the "synced" state is when audio and video start at the exact same time. Since the audio source is external, clicking the indicator to bring "into sync" obviously has the opposite effect.
For now, we've been reduced to the workaround of using the Ctrl-F12 command console and setting debug option TL.Don'tDrawSyncIndicators to True, which gets rid of the visual clutter. Of course, that means that sync indicators everywhere are gone, including where they would have been useful.
I'm sure all of this works fine with newly synchronized merged clips, or maybe even clips previously merged by Premiere, but that's not going to work for 27 hours of synced footage and a 90-minute rough edit...
So, am I missing something very obvious here? Is there some way to have merged clips be ignored by Premiere, as they used to be? Or even better, to "set" a merged clip as being synced and actually registering sync shifts in respect of the correctly synced position?

Strike those last comments of mine, I think I've figured out the fundamental issue and it seems to be a clear bug. It's actually completely unrelated to PluralEyes, but here's how I figured it out:
PluralEyes creates linked, but not merged, synced clips on a timeline. To add those synced clips to a bin, you will need create merged clips. Problem is, Premiere will always consider a merged clip from such a clip to be "out of sync" if there was any trimmed audio preceding the start of the video. And trimming audio preceding video is precisely what PluralEyes does by default.
It turns out the sync indicator problem does not occur:
    - If video started rolling before audio (PluralEyes never automatically trims video); or
    - If the trimmed audio is manually restored using the selection tool on the timeline prior to creating the merged clip.
Basically, trimming an audio clip prior to using it as part of a merged clip, causes Premiere to interpret the merged clip as having been "created out of sync". It's as if it's interpreting the trimming of the audio as a shift in the start of the audio. This is obviously not right, and it didn't happen prior to CC 7.2
The issue can be reproduced at will by taking any random video and audio clip, regardless of sync, shortening the audio clip at the beginning and then creating a merged clip. Adding the new merged clip to a timeline will lead to it appearing to be "out of sync".
There's a relatively simple workaround on new projects: undo (or disable, not sure if this is possible) the automatic trimming of audio clips in PluralEyes and don't trim audio prior to creating merged clips. Unfortunately, this is no solution for the current project, especially given the many limitations Premiere still has when dealing with merged clips.

  • Can you change the sync of a master clip?

is there a way to fix the sync of a master clip
in a two camera shoot, one camera stopped for a few seconds, the other kept on going

you can cut the clip up and adjust the sync manually in a sequence (using one of the other camera clips as a guide) then export that sequence as a reference movie (or self contained) and use that instead of the original masterclip

  • Syncing Audio with Merge Clips option and OMF export question/issue

    Hi,
In the past when I've edited video, when it came to syncing audio I always did it manually.  This time, using Premiere Pro CC, I used the merge clips option, to speed up the syncing audio process, which was a huge time saver with excellent results.
The question/issue I have..is that when I get my OMF exported for my sound editor, will this screw anything up, since on the project file, it doesn't use the original audio file, but the one that was merged.  And in the project list, I don't even need to have the original audio file listed, since it's already been merged into a clip, which I used in the project.  I know it's the same file used, but will it mess anything up since a merged clip audio was used instead of just dragging the original track onto the timeline?
    - Ken

A good way to know for sure (and therefore feel comfortable that you're doing the right thing) is to do a test OMF export, then open this in Audition. This ill show you exactly what you're exporting.

  • Sync problem with Merge Clips options in PP CC

    Hello
First post in the Adobe Communities! I'm glad to be a port of it
I'm editing a short film and I've started using the Merge Clips option to do the syncing of image and sound, together with the "In Points" option as the Synchronize Point. When I sync material I like it to be exact and perfect, therefor I use the Audio Time Units option to do so, to insert my in-points, but when I Merge Clips the result isn't as exact as I told it to be, the audio clips are slightly out of sync, very slightly but annoyingly, and it seems to ignore my workflow, or adjust it self or something. I was wondering if the Merge Clips option supports when you use Audio Time Units option to set the in-points for syncing, or if there is any other option or work-around to get the syncing perfect. OR, is it suppose to be like this when syncing? I hope not. I'm not sure but I think I hear an echo effect in the merged clip as well, very minimal though.
The screenshots are zoomed in on with the "Show Audio Time Limits" option on.
I want it to be like this...
...But it end up like this when I Merge Clips
Thanks for reading, hoping someone can help me out!
    Best Regards,
    Daniel

Thanks, I suppose I can start batch-converting my mjpg movies before importing them inte PE7, if that would make this problem disappear. I'll try that (I have FormatFactory installed, but VirtualDub seems like a nice tool if that is better), although that would make the process a bit more long-winded...
Regarding GSPOT info on a file that works and one doesn't, there are typically no difference between them (except length and content, of course). In fact, as I mentioned above, the same movie did not work until I did some reinstalling, clearing caches etc. Then the same movie suddenly worked OK again.
I attach the GSPOT info on that file.
(I never had this problem on my older XP system that run PE2...).
I will try converting to see if the problem disappears.
    Thanks!

  • Out of sync indicator with merged clips?

Hi. I'll edit a fifteen minutes short film soon and I'd like to work with Première CC.
The film will be shooted with the new Sony F55 so I'll have to manage RAW files and xavHD files. I made some tests and Premiere read them perfectly.
But ... My problem is this:
I'll use the automatic audi sync to match my audio and my video. Then I'll merge them to have synced files.
I noticed that, once merged, there is no more out of sync indicator! Or is it?
I can't edit a complete short film if I don't have the out of sync indicator. It would be too dangerous.
It means that I'll have to work with the dinausor fcp7 with transcoded Applepro res files ... again!
I read that I could use Pluraleyes first, then bring the synchronized rushes into Premiere CC. But I think that it's a little bit stupid to be obliged to spend 200 euros  and to loose time copying all the rushes knowing that Premiere could do it immediately
    Any solution?
    Thanx for help
    Marc

That's not the only thing missing with merged clips.  Copied from my previous discussion:
    No Match Frame
No Replace Edits (picture matches, but audio gets out of sync)
And for that matter, NO out-of-sync indicators at all.  None.
No making SUBCLIPS in the project panel (via source panel ins and outs).  A subclip gets created, but it's not the part you selected.
No retention of MARKER comments.  Once you select a new clip, the comments go POOF!  Gone.
I just cut a 10 minute dialogue short with merged clips, and I can't think of a single time I knocked audio out of sync.  But I was prudent in my technique.
If you need the functionality, 1) file a bug report and 2) use the PluralEyes method.

  • Audio disappear at the end of my merged subclips after a relink

    Hello everyone,
I am currently experiencing a new bug I've never seen before. Let me explain.
*1. The project of my workflow*
    - I digitize HDCAM dailies (23,98) at low resolution with a DV codec
    - I use the "Cinema Tools Reverse Telecine" to have the clips in 23,98 instead of 29,97
    - I merge the video with the sound (which is 29,97)
    - I create a subclip from the merge to remove the unwanted black at the beginning and the end of the clip, because the audio file is longer than the video file
    *2. The problem*
Because I had to move my mediafiles to another hard drive, I had to relink them. The relink worked well, until I discoverd I couldn't hear the end of the sound of my merged clips. At 3/4 of the clip, the audio just stops. But if I go in the audio tab of the clip, I can see the waveforms.
+In green the part I can hear, in red the part I can't hear when I play the clip.+
Really weird. It's like FCP doesn't consider the audio anymore.
If I drag the clip to a timeline, it appears like this:
+I can't extend the audio in the timeline, even if it exists.+
    *3. The workaround*
I tried relink one merged clips several times in a row. Each time it loose a bit of the end of the audio. In five relink, I have no audio anymore.
The only option is to remove subclips limits. There I have my audio back. But if, for whatever reason (and it can happen in a project) I have to relink, it will be the same problem over and over.
I don't really understand why this is happening, but I think it might be related to the 6.0.2 update, because I've never seen this bug before.
    *4. The questions*
Does anyone had the same problem?
If there is something unclear in my explanation, please ask me precise question about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it is the correct workflow, I've done it before.
I found a workaround: instead of transcode the clips I digitized from 29.97 to 23.98 first, I create the merged clips while the video is still the same frame rate than the audio (29.97). Then I apply the "cinema tools reverse telecine" on the merged clip.
This merge doesn't present the problem I had before. It is a bit much more complicated than the other way, because the transcoded merge is not always sync to the frame.
Does anyone had experienced the same problem than me with the 6.0.2 update?

  • Moving project breaks merged clips...

    Hello,
This is a complex and difficult problem to describe by writing, apologies if it's not clear. I've been working for several months on a large project that was shot double system: video imported as Pro Res (shot in HDV) and audio (recorded on DAT) that was transfered to aiff files. So I had 43 cassettes of video (with each shot automaticall being it's own clip - as it was HDV) and then 13 one hour aiff files of the DAT audio. In FCP I broke down each video clip and synced it with it's audio and created merged clips. I had trouble while creating the merged clips as detailed in this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1818825&tstart=0). Originally the merged clips when opened has the audio and video totally out of sync and were useless, and when I went back and made the reel names match between the DAT aiff files and the video, then the re-merged the clips they were in sync. So everything has been okay since then.
Now, after working for months on one computer, I moved the entire project to another computer. I copied all of the files from the old computer into the new computer so the files and everything are the same. But upon opening the project on the new computer everything is offline and I need to re-connect all of the media. However when I do reconnect it all, now all of my merged clips (there are atleast 2000 of them) are all out of sync again (of note, when I reconnect I always get the error message "reel names doesn't match" and I choose "continue" as when ever I choose "try again" it wont reconnect the media). Is there any other way around this issue other than having to go back and spend another 3 weeks laboriously manually changing the reel names of and re-re-mergeing each of the thousands of indivdual merged clips (in order to have them be useable, in-sync merged clips)? Even if I do this, I know that in a few weeks I will be bringing the project back to the orginal computer, and again everything will be off line and then I'll have to once again change reel names for each clip, and re-re-re-merged them to get it all working again. Does anyone have any ideas or insights into this issue? Has anyone else atleast had to deal with this issue? Thanks!

It sounds like when you moved the material, you simply copied the folders instead of using Media Manager.
Preventing your problems is why MM exists. While MM may have it's detractors (I've been one of them), it has been improved in the more current FCP versions.
Read very carefully through the section in the Manual that covers it then use it to create a transportable copy of your project.

  • Merging clips results in several duplicate audio channels/tracks

I am trying to sync my audio and video in Premiere, and something is screwing it up.
I have my video track, that has 2 audio tracks.
Then I have my polyphonic wav file, that has 5 audio tracks.
    2+5 = 7, right?
So why is it, when I merge my two clips together, that Premiere decides to create 20 additional tracks for my Merged Clip, totaling 27 tracks?! The majority of them are blank/empty/silent. Why is it doing this?

I don't understand this part of your explanation. It's been a while since I've used PE, since FCPX's sync and multicam features work so well.
Why not try a short test – skipping the PE steps entirely. Select two of your clips and let FCP automatically create a test multiclip matching the HVX waveforms with those on the 5D. Open in the Angle Editor – or start a test project and see whether the boom mic track is present.

  • Reconnecting merged clips???

    Hi guys,
Had to transfer rushes from one dodgy lacie to a good one. The rushes have been merged to provide sync......but I can't seem to reconnect the merged subclipped files.....any ideas...naturally the normal clips relink okay

What does happen when you try to reconnect the media for your merged clips?

  • Problem with Clip Usage and merged clips in CS6

The 'Clip Usage' drop-down menus don't seem to work in Premiere CS6 for merged clips. The info bar at the top of the project window correctly lists the number of times the viedo and audio from the clip has been used, and the downward-pointing arrow appears, but when you click on it... nothing happens. Same's true of the 'Video Usage' column in the main body of the project window. Non-merged clips work just fine.
Anyone know if this is just a problem with my project, or if it's a bug in Premiere? Had a lot of trouble with merged clips in CS5.5, and was hoping they'd be solved by CS6 - I've been using Creative Suite for a long time, and the lack of good merged clips support was always one of the challenges in persuading other indie editors to switch over from FCP...
    Thanks!

...and the lack of good merged clips support was always one of the challenges in persuading other indie editors to switch over from FCP...
I guess they just have to weigh that up against the lack of support they got from Apple for FCP in its entirety.

  • Merged clips problem

I have a very odd problem.
Some time ago I started a new project, from the beginning using premiere CC in a mac (not sure the version, but right now I'm at 8.1) with r3d video files (shot on red epic with no audio on AV clips) and wav audio files recorded on an external recorder.
Merging these clips was no problem to begin with, and didn't seem to be buggy or problematic at all.
That was when I was using a mac version of premiere CC.
I came back to the project after switching to a Windows 8 run PC - and all of the sudden my nicely titled merged files are now all buggy and weird - only about half of the video is on those merged clips while the entire audio is there - and I can't right- click on the clips (in the browser) - just nothing happens.
Anyone have a similar problem with merged clips?

...and the lack of good merged clips support was always one of the challenges in persuading other indie editors to switch over from FCP...
I guess they just have to weigh that up against the lack of support they got from Apple for FCP in its entirety.

  • Relinking / Saving Merged Clips from being orphaned

I made the mistake of using Merged Clips to handle the merging of my dual system sound.
During my edit it seems like almost all the clips have become "orphaned" and no longer are connected back to the project clip.  REVEAL CLIP IN PROJECT doesn't work, and I'm no longer able to access SOURCE SETTINGS on the video portion of the clips.
Is there anyway to relink these or make it so I can easily access SOURCE SETTINGS again??  I've certainly learned my lesson about merged clips.  Definitely not going to be using them again.

You probably don't have any audio tracks targeted.

  • Merged clips source

    Hi everyone,
Recently I've been working with merged clips in Premiere Pro, and I wonder how you could find the video and the audio source from the merged clips once the name has been changed and the clip moved away (or even worse deleted from the project) ? Is there anyway to do that ? Because the file path for merged clips is blank.
I've found a workaround that consist of offlining the merged clips and relink it : in the location window it tells you the files that use the merged clip. But it's a complicated workaround if you have more than 10 clips, which happens often.

Sorry for not being clear. I was talking about renaming the merged clips. For instance, if I have a file named "audio01.wav" which I merged with "video01.mov" and rename it "action1", there is no reference in the renamed merged clips and the source clips.
Of course I could rename it "action1_audio01_video01" but makes the workflow a bit complicated.
What is great in Ppro though is that even with the source clips deleted the merged clip still remains in the project and stays connected to the source files. Which is it's even more bothering not being able to show information about source clips from a merged clips.

  • How do I make sure that CS5.5 Merge clips encodes Audio at correct volume?

    Windows 7 x 64, 2 TB, 12 GB RAM,
I am using the Premiere Pro CS5.5 Trial (full version), particularly because of the new Merge clips feature.
The Merge clips works intuitively and easily; this is a fantastic advantage. I am creating these clips to use in Captivate 5.0.
But, when encoded, the Audio volume has blown out so that it shatters the ear drums.
I am not sure whether this is a PP problem, or an AME 5.5 problem.
A second problem is this with the Merge Clips. In the Project panel, if you check the Duration of a Merge clip (in PP) it shows the original duration even although it has been altered on the Timeline.
If I encode the video clip separately from the Audio,  I can adjust the Audio volume in Captivate, but, this:
    1) increases the overall file sizes-something I don't want for the web.
    2) the video duration and the audio duration do not match, even though they did on the Timeline. This did not happen in CS5.
I know this is a new version, but has anyone any ideas that I might try. I have alread delayed my project waiting for CS5.5 to become available.

Sounds like Media Encoder is actually recording the audio as a stereo file but the audio is panned to one side.
Check that you haven't accidentally panned the audio in the mixer to one side.
