Slow browsing, not a DNS issue

Hi
I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro 13" and browsing on my home network is ridiculously slow (5 mins to load a page, if at all). I've tried all the fixes related to DNS and have changed to OpenDNS and Google and back again to no avail. Both my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 work smoothly and with lightning speed on the same wifi connection (Australian National Broadband Network, speeds c. 25mbps).
Neither Apple Diagnostics nor the "Assist me..." diagnostic available in Network preferences yield any data on potential problems, indicating that everything is working as it should be.
Any ideas??
cheers,
A

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
[Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
        Please close this window.
[Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Slow browsing - not just Safari -WHY?

I have been experiencing slow loading of pages in both Safari and Chrome - sometimes one is slow and the other OK, sometimes both are slow. When I say slow, I mean my home page takes 30 seconds to load and subsequent pages can be anywhere from 2 seconds to a minute or even hang up and won't load. In Safari I often get the "Localized string not found"... in Chrome I just get slowness with no error messages. So I guess you would probably say my Internet connection is to blame.
HERE'S THE WEIRD PART. I only have this problem on my iMac (purchased a month ago), not on my MacBook (purchased earlier this year). They are both running the same OS, the same apps, and are on the same network. Yet the desktop machine is slow and the laptop is fast. Apple phone support tried to explain to me that because the iMac can connect either through wifi or ethernet it is slower than the macbook which connects through wifi only. This seems *completely counterintuitive* to me. Anyway, their solution was to recommend buying a gigabit router--meaning Airport Extreme I guess--but if my current Netgear router can serve up fast Internet to my macbook why can't it do so to my iMac??

    Ok...
David... system updates such as Snow Leopard's v10.6.3 to v10.6.4 / and software updates from say Safari 4.0.5 to 5... those updates do not necessarily include fixes that will increase the speed at which Safari loads pages.
Before updating your software, always read the detail first.
About the v10.6.4 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4150
When it comes to Safari, if you had any Safari third party plugins installed prior to the Safari 5 update, they may not be compatible with Safari 5. Go here for help with that.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons and click Reset.
Your Safari preferences could be corrupted.
Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.
And always repair disk permissions after all software updates are installed. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • New ASUS router setup not connected dns issues

I purchased a new Asus RT-AC53U router (not so new with Asus) after some recent storms in the area seemed to kill my old Mynet N600 one.  All videos, and ads tout how simple the setup should be.  After doing all the directions given multiple times, (resetting, re-booting, PC, MAC, wireless) I'm still getting no internet connection .... tried direct connection to PC and to Mac, same result... "Disconnected", and ddns "go" just put me back in the loop of powering off modem, etc.. It may be something simple I am missing,... since I'm not savvy in this arena... only the second router  I've ever installed ever... years ago,    Help! "Leeky"

What are you using for a modem (make/model)?

  • Infinity - slow browsing

I just had my BT infinity installed a couple of days ago and I've had this slow browsing issue like many others.
Perhaps this is old news but it's not a DNS issue, from a few searches I read about changing DNS settings which did not work for me (at least from the local settings).
And also why does the HH3 (whatever brand that is?) has such a primitive interface, forgive me if I haven't done enough reading yet but is there a way to get proper stats from the router or the modem directly (i.e SNR, error readings and attenuation?) and a more advanced than the "advanced" interface?
Si to complete my post, I believe the issue is with the automatic wifi channel assignment for those on wifi at least.
Use inSSIDer to identify which channels interfere with your signal around your property and manually set your channel in the HH3 router instead of the smart option. As soon as I did this, the pages started loading at light speed. Hope this helps and sorry if it is old news.

the only way to read line stats is through the openreach modem but as someone says it is locked down and you can only access the gui of the modem by "unlocking" it which can be done fairly easily
Depends which openreach modem it is. The HG612 can be unlocked with custom firmware but I've yet to find an easy way to do the ECI (which I have). It's a bit pointless having the GUI locked down
Unlocking the ECI is very simple if you have the right tools to hand. Takes 5 mins max
Yeah but that involves Jtag rather than just a firmware download doesn't it? Never done anything jtag wise before.

  • IPhone 4, iOS 6 update, and wifi - cannot browse WWW via DNS

Apologies for the long post in advance. Hopefully it's exhaustive enough for Apple to take notice.
    tl;dr:
updated iPhone 4 (VZW) to iOS 6 on home wi-fi. now phone will not browse to WWW on home wi-fi, EXCEPT WHEN BYPASSING DNS (ie, browsing by IP address). tried lots. no success
    full events detail:
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 6 yesterday evening (via iTunes on my Win 7 x64 PC). Upon completion, I ran into some trouble trying to sign in with my AppleID in order to restore from my iCloud backup. Suspecting that Apple's servers were just experiencing trouble (though nothing indicated iCloud was down), I skipped signing in and went about my day. The rest of my settings copied across from my computer. At that point, I slept on it.
The following morning (today), I noticed that I still could not sign in, but was off to work and did not have time to examine it further. At the office, all seemed well, and I used the phone with the updated OS largely without issue, including connecting to two new wifi networks. Returning home, however, I noticed that the behavior was the same as the previous evening, ie I could not connect to things like the App Store in order to install updates, the web to look for information, etc. Now having time to troubleshoot, I pressed forward with the investigation and immediately found a number of support community and web threads detailing wi-fi issues on devices after updating to iOS 6. I followed the steps I found, but I still have the same issue. Below is the list of things I've attempted, to the best of my ability to recollect.
    1. forget network, rejoin - same symptoms
    2. power off phone, power on - same symptoms
    3. set wi-fi network HTTP proxy to Auto - same symptoms
    3. forget network, power off wi-fi, power off cellular data, power on wi-fi, rejoin network (same symptoms), power on cellular data (same symptoms)
    4. power off bluetooth (already done, no change), power on bluetooth - same symptoms
    5. forget network, airplane mode on, power on wi-fi, rejoin network - same symptoms
    6. clear cookies, cache, website data - same symptoms
    7. try another browser (Opera) - same symptoms
    8. try static IP on wi-fi network - same symptoms
    9. forget network, power off router, turn off wi-fi, power off phone, power on phone, reset network settings, power on wi-fi, power on router (after 5+ mins), rejoin - same symptoms
    10. restore phone to factory defaults (same symptoms) and restore from backup (same symptoms)
    11. enable SSID broadcast on router - same symptoms
    12. enable WMM on 802.1n router - already enabled, same symptoms
    13. disable 40MHz channels on 802.1n router - same symptoms
    14. set router to 802.1g operation - same symptoms
    15. remove wireless security from wi-fi network - same symptoms
    16. change SSID - same symptoms
    17. update router firmware - no updates available, also, same router was working prior to update and continues to work without trouble with all other wi-fi devices in the house
    18. try another router - already verified this works, but as a result of the particulars of this case, is not relevant as my home router is not at fault, so much as the update to iOS 6 is on my iPhone 4. as other routers work and as a factory restore did not resolve (prior to backup restoration), I also do not believe my iPhone 4 to be at fault, so much as the software update itself
Having exhausted all of those suggestions, I dug further. The phone was working without issue up until the moment it needed to reboot to apply the downloaded iOS 6 update. I initially encountered the incorrect password scenario during the post-update configuration, but after forgetting and setting up the wireless profile from scratch (from the iOS 6 setup wizard), it joined my wi-fi network. The phone DID pull an IP address from my router, and responded to pings from other devices on my network without issue. In addition, using the Safari browser to web to a local network device, such as my router, was successful, indicating that the wi-fi network was established and routing appropriately. All other devices on the network, wired or otherwise, were working without issue. I then attempted to trace traffic and found that none of my phone's web requests were reaching my router, except for those targeted at the LAN. I then tried browsing to an IP to ensure there was not a DNS issue, and my phone browsed successfully. I then tried another site by domain name and failed, and then its IP and was successful. I verified against my router's logs that the web requests were routing through it to ensure that my cellular data wasn't taking over, and the logs confirmed it. At that point, I tried changing DNS from my standard servers to another set, but the behavior remained the same. I then tried setting my router as the DNS server, but the issue remained.
In conclusion, it appears to be some sort of DNS issue specific to the update. I would also hazard a guess that this is impacting people on the networks where they downloaded the update and/or were connected when the phone actually updated. I've tried setting the profile to use local, ISP, and public DNS servers, but as the requests never reach my router, I am inclined to believe it's being restricted by a setting on the phone itself. Because the problem persists through a factory restore, it would seem to point to all data not being truly erased during that process. Recall that I'm having the same issue prior to a backup being restored to the device, and that this issue prevents iCloud from being accessed during the setup process while on the problematic wi-fi network, so that should rule out the backup playing any part in the trouble.
    Any thoughts?

The OP is correct, I have done many tests.  With IOS6 there appears to be a dns issue in some cases with IOS for both ipad(2) at lease (my wife won't let me upgrade here v1) and the iPhone4s in my case.  Pretty easy to diagonse, I wish Apple would fix it.
1.) I use a Juniper 5GT wireless firewall and all of my other devices (many apple, ipad, MBP, iMAC,3 ipods etc) are fine: Not ipad2 or iphone4s running IOS6
2.) after upgrade nothing worked.  narrowed it down by messing with dns (I have my own dns server)
3.) Strange thing; dns works over MiFI (Verizon) and Carrier
4.) confirmed that it is a dns and not network issue.
-down load free tool called ping-scope-lite.   (obviously you need to turn off wifi to do this)
      http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ping-scope-lite/id431500107?mt=8
    turn on wifi
    - ping Level3 dns server 4.2.2.2 or Googlesdns servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 these worked.
-now ping by name google.com or ipchicken.com
       - try others; same result.
Apple did say that they would give me another iphone 4s: I just wasn't sure that would fix my issue.  I tried downgrading to 5.1.1 but I got an error saying my device wasn't able to do so (tried even blocking itunes from contacting Apple)  I whis this could be fixed.  I did even have it working using my own dns server but now I can see that my phone over wifi isn't even trying to make a dns request now.

  • DNS Issues, can't set static DNS server

I have an Airport Extreme (which I'll call the router). It has an IPv6 tunnel (to Hurricane Electric), so it hands out IPv4 DHCP and announces an IPv6 network as well. The DNS servers configured on the router are OpenDNS'.
My Apple TV 2 is connected via wired Ethernet to the router. It was using a DHCP address provided by the router, which made the DNS server the same address as the router. I wanted to manually set the DNS to use my ISP's, so that I can make sure the Netflix streaming issue I have is not a DNS issue.
So I changed the Apple TV to a manual address, and set the DNS server to my ISP's DNS server (Apple TV can only have one DNS server? Odd.)
After I save this, the Network page shows the correct manual IP, mask, and router, but the DNS Address is an IPv6 address (one that belongs to my network, but the entire address isn't visible), not the one I set. When I Configure TCP/IP again, and I reach the DNS Address page, the first digit of the existing address is "20", and the rest of the digits are "0". Interesting note as well: if I press Down, the number will increment to 19, and so on, but if I press Up, it changes to 0. Obviously the UI isn't designed for IPv6 addressing, but there's an IPv6 address in there nevertheless.

I have tried to set the DNS Address multiple times now, and have restarted the Apple TV. The IPv6 DNS Address persists.

After 16 hours of working i don´t have seen this easy solution. I had tried with Internet Explorer and Opera but finaly i have need to use Firefox.
Thanks a lot to solve it.

    Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • ITunes not responding due to DNS issues?

iTunes 11.1.0.126 on Windows 7, never had a problem in the past 5 years... iTunes runs 24/7 on this machine. It has been running for days since my last reboot, maybe a week. I was listening to a podcast, then went into the store to search for an artist, clicked on an album, listened to preview, back button, different album, preview, back button, different album, etc then one time when I clicked the back button iTunes became unresponsive until I had to kill it.
I can no longer open iTunes, it always opens as a transparent window with a border and is immediately "Not responding" in task manager. Same thing happens in safe mode. I tried rebooting too.
Around this time I started noticing other problems with my internet connection. Seems like my provider is having DNS issues because certain websites hosted on the east coast won't load, but west coast websites will (I am on the west coast). I tried loading these websites on my phone through cell data and they worked, so I figured my provider is having problems.
Now I'm wondering if iTunes calls home or tries to make some sort of connection when it loads, regardless of safe mode or not, and this causes the application to hang immediately. Does anyone know anything about this, or how I might be able to get the iTunes application to run again?

Well, it wasn't a DNS issue, it was a routing issue that affected ISP customers in half of the country. https://community.shaw.ca/thread/9284?start=0&tstart=0
I can confirm that iTunes will now open and is functional. It seems that if the application can't access some internet resource immediately when it launches it will immediately lock up and never come back! No offline mode??!?!

  • [SOLVED] Greetings... and DNS issues... (why is it so slow?)

    Hey everybody!
My name is Stephen. I'm new to Arch (hence I'm posting in the newb forum). A bit of background: I'm a CS major in the good 'ole US of A. I used Debian/Ubuntu for 2 years before now. I actually installed Arch just yesterday, so today is my second day of usage. Why do I want to switch from Ubuntu? Several reasons, but they can all be summed up thusly: I want to tinker with and understand how my machine works. I don't want to interface with a blackbox that just "works." Arch seems to be geared towards what I want.
And I've been learning alot, haha. Which I why I am now here to ask for help.
I originally installed Arch at school. Everything was great. Then I took my laptop home and I found out something was wrong. Pacman took an extra 5-15 secs before each download started, but once the download started, I got normal speeds. I observed a similar behavior in my web browsers I tried (Firefox/Surf). No matter what I do, this behavior persists. I suspect this is a DNS issue, and thus I have tried the follow methods of correction so far.
    1) Reinstalling to a default configuration.
    2) Disabling IPV6.
    3) Screwing around with etc/hosts, etc/resolv.conf, and etc/dhcpcd.conf (though I probably did something wrong. Also, I'm not sure how to force Arch to accept my changes after modifying these files.)
I also read somewhere that using HTTP mirrors works better for pacman, but I already was using an HTTP mirror anyway, so I knew that couldn't be the problem.
I have not tried DNS caching yet. However, given that every other machine in the house runs fine, I suspect it is my configuration that is wrong. Does anybody know how I can pinpoint this as DNS for sure? And if so, how I can fix it? Thanks for all your time/help!
Here are some config files/snippets of interest. Most of this should be straight from a basic Arch install.
    etc/resolv.conf
    # Generated by dhcpcd from eth0
    # /etc/resolv.conf.head can replace this line
    domain domain.actdsltmp
    nameserver 192.168.0.1
    nameserver 216.165.129.157
    # /etc/resolv.conf.tail can replace this line
Note that 192.168.0.1 is the address of my router on my LAN. I believe the second address is a DNS provided by my ISP.
    etc/hosts
    #<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost moebius
    ::1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    etc/rc.conf snippet
    HOSTNAME="moebius"
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
    # Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
    # Declare each route then list in ROUTES
    # - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Netflix & Amazon-Mac & Browser Not Supported Issues

Hello! I am having issues with both Netflix and Amazon's "Search Inside" with my MacBook Pro. I have all the lastest OS (10.7.2), browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) and according to their (Netflix and Amazon) requirements everything is fine. I even have Silverlight (which I couldn't download from Microsoft because it kept saying "browser not supported.").
It can't be a coincidence that I am having the same exact issue on all three browsers on these two sites.
What could the connection possibly be? I am absolutely stumped!
    Thanks for the help!

Hi there, I meant that I was getting similar issues with both Netflix AND Amazon...separately.
That said, I figured it out. It was my virus protection. Apparently Netflix and Amazon's "Look Inside" don't like it. I should have figured out that the virus protection s/w was the issue. Netflix suggested it and they were correct.
Yeah, yeah, I know... Macs don't need virus protection. After some of the security issues that have been going on, I say 'better safe, than sorry." ;-)
Thanks for the response and help!

A couple of things to try, disable IPv6 if enabled.  Also could try Google DNS instead of the RG DNS.

  • DCDIAG reports broken delegations but not having any DNS issues.

I am planning on moving my 2003 domain to a 2012 domain, I need to resolve all the dns issues with my current domain. When i run DCDIAG i get the following error for all of my name servers. I have 3 seperate forests. I use forwarders to forward to all my
dns servers. I have no DNS issues as far as i know. When i run dcdiag on any of my DC's i get the following error for everyone of my Name Servers.
    DNS server: 20.26.212.204 (server.mydomain.com.)
4 test failures on this DNS server
This is a valid DNS server
Name resolution is funtional. _ldap._tcp SRV record for the forest root domain is registered
Delegation is broken for the domain mydomain.com.mydomain.com. on the DNS server x.x.x.x
[Error details: 9003 (Type: Win32 - Description: DNS name does not exist.)]
The only zones in my dns are the _msdcs.mydomain.com and mydomain.com. I do not understand why it is saying mydomain.com.mydomain.com in the error. I am not sure where else to look to try and resolve this error.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi,
Base on my experience, that must be the Delegated zone issue, this issue is because the new DNS
has duplicated the name for parent and child domain, you can try to backup your current DNS then delete the duplicate zone then restart the DNS service.

  • RV180W intermitent DNS issues

    Hello,
I have a simple setup with a RV180W router (5 users, no domain, no AD, 1 VPN site-to-site).
Everything was working fine during about 1 year. Suddently, last week, internet browsing is slow or giving 404 error on computers.
You can try to load google (or any page) it give 404 error, you try it again it takes 3 minutes to load, you try it 5 sec after, it works.
I'm connected with Remote Desktop externally when doing my tests, the connexion is NOT dropping (while I experience 404 error) which makes me think of a DNS issue.
The router setup hasn't changed before the problem happens (no new computers, no firmware upgrade).
I was on 1.0.1.9 firmware so I tried to update it to the latest 1.0.3.10. That didn't resolve the issue and now i'm having the "100% CPU bug" that is stated in numerous other post. (which I don't care for now)
If I reboot the router, everything works fine for a couple of hours before failing again.
The syslog is showing 0 error, 0 warning, 0 all.
Should I replace the unit ?
    Thanks,
    Benoit

    Hi Marty,
Right now, everything is working fine so I can't make some test you're asking.
As soon as the problem comes back i'll answer both of these question :
When the issue occurs, can you ping google.com?
Can you ping the WAN IP of the router from the outside when this happens?
Who is the ISP?  : Cogego (Canada). I've called them and they told me that there's no problem on their side (classic)
What type of connection is it? DHCP
Did the ISP provide a modem/router or just a modem?  It's just a modem and it has been replaced on monday.
Has anyone tested with a PC connected directly to the modem?  No, but I could make the test.
I've done a tracert on google.com last time the issue occurs and it was resolving the name but the response was very slow.
I've also been able to connect to speedtest.net to make a speed test, the page was loading correctly but the speed test couldn't complete giving a timeout error each time.
As soon as the issues comes back, I'll provide more answers.
    Thanks,
