Slow, no reaction

Dear all, my problem is that when I want to delete one or more messages, it takes a long time (approx. 1.5 min.) untill it is executed. Sometimes the screen goes pale (I use it full screen mode, but I think it is only the thuderbird window) and in the blue line on top following text appear "folder name - account name - Mozilla Thunderbird (Reageert niet)" (Dutch for: Not Responding)
I use Thunderbird with Windows 8 and have 4 accounts active of which 2 have no problems. I already reinstalled thunderbird, and I refressed the database by deleting it and having a new one formed.
Does anyone have an idea of what is the problem and what I can do to overcome it?
TIA, Geraldo [email protected]

Ok, solved the USB direct connect problem on my Dell inspiron laptop. Just, uninstall iTunes and Updater fully (latest versions), restart and reinstall them. Then restart again. Please do not connect your ipod yet. Then go to Dell update website and update the chipset and Bios drivers and install them. Do a full windows update as well including non Priority updates. I do not know what it is that solved the problem out of all those steps I mentioned but the IPOD works perfect now. I am assuming it is most likely the chipset update but I had done that before...mystery.

  • Event problem - slow/delayed reaction to keypresses!

    Hi all!
Im trying to implement a first person free mouse view with strafe in the game im working on. I use KeyListener interface and my problem is that when I hold down a key it fires a KeyEvent to begin with! Then after a delay of aproximately half a second to a second more event are being fired. It gives really slow reaction - something that I can not use in my game. What to do? If someone has a good fix to this issue please post a little code snippet I can check out.
I wish you all a good day.

It just seems easier to set a bool. true when keyPressed - false when released. And then just run while trueOf course this creates an infinite loop which uses up the CPU resources. Not a very good idea.
Yup, my thoughts exactly (see reply #4).Using a Thread or a Timer is a similiar in concept (much better then the above suggestion), but there are differences.
For example when using a Thread your code will execute then you will sleep for a period of time. So if your code takes 100 milliseconds to execute and you sleep for 1000, then every cycle will take 1100 ms. The total length of time between events will vary between CPU's since the 100ms execution time will vary depending on the speed of your CPU. However, when using a Timer an event will fire every 1000ms whether your processing takes 100ms or 500ms. Which means your cycle time is exactly 1000ms.
Using a Thread you must use the SwingUtilities.invokeLater to update the GUI since the code executes in a non Event Thread. However when using a Timer all the code executes in the Event Thread so you don't need to worry about SwingUtilities.invokeLater. Of course if your code is heavily CPU bound you may need to create a separate Thread anyway so you don't block the Event Thread from responding to events.
But the main point is using a Timer will give you a cycle time of a fixed duration, whereas using a Thread will give you a variable cycle time depending on CPU and duration of executable code.
The choice of implementation is up to the OP.

  • Ipad buttons are slow in reaction

    Hi,
I have an Edge project for web and ipad.
The buttons in on the web site funtions well.
But on the ipad it is slow and doesnt want to responed.

    Hi, TonUden-
Have you tried using touchstart?  I've noticed that the iOS devices are a little slow on click events, but respond to touch-specific events very quickly.
    Thanks,

  • MacBook Pro frozen/very slow

I have a macbook pro version 10.5.8 that has slowed its reaction time so it takes 10 minutes to do anything. In the meantime either the beachball spins or it just doesn't react. Any solutions?

The hard drive is failing, or you have some other hardware fault. Back up all data immediately, then make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
DO NOT run the completely pointless permission repair until you have backed up.

  • Not Smooth, Jerky & Slow.

Is anyone having this problem? Got leopard, set up my dock to magnify and automatically hide and show dock. As i tested, it lagged. Literally only had finder running. Turned off magnification and doesn't lag UNTIL you open 4 or 5 or more apps.. At the same time expose lags as-well as spaces. Really ruins the experience. Never had this problem with Tiger

    Greetings,
In my particular case, I have had a smooth ride so far. I did an upgrade on this Macbook, and each of the installation methods on five of my other machines.
I have Pages, MSN IM, Numbers, iTunes, and iPhoto all open, right now, and the magnification, and the Genie effect are smooth as they can be. I have 2 Gig of Ram in this 2.16 Gig MacBook. Of course the more you load up, the slower the reaction time will be, it all depends on available memory, but as far as jerkiness, or being quirky goes, I have not seen that on any of my machines, so far.
I did notice with one of my machines that after I did an upgrade, I was sure that it should be quicker, so I backed up everything, and did a fresh load, by repartitioning and the disk, same sizes, just a different name. I reinstalled all the software that it had before, but it is noticeably faster and the space required was a bit less.
I won't use the upgrade method any longer, I like the speed difference and it's nice to have a clean drive/load. I'm sure not everyone is likely to see it this way, but to each his own.
I hope this helps in some small way. Have a Grand Day.
    Cheers,
    M.

  • Satellite Pro A300-28R: slow boot and freezing on Explorer/Internet

I have recently bought a Satellite Pro A300-28R and I am quite disappointed about the performance.
    1) From the specs it looks like a decent laptop but with booting time of about 3 minutes, "please wait" it is surely not impressing me given the fact that i have not installed anything yet...
    2) I will try to uninstall applications like tempro but still I am puzzled by the slow reaction on internet pages.
For example when i go on google and start typing something most of the times the cursor freezes and i have to wait a few seconds before I am able to see what i am typing.
I have only bought it last Friday and I have not used much but surely a bit of a disappointment so far.
Any ideas why the cursor freezes on google or on the internet explorer toolbar?
for info i am using Vista Business OS and Internet explorer
    any help welcome

    Hello
About slow boot you can read very interesting and useful thread under http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=134947
I hope this will help you to understand why this can happen.
After first start you can be faced with this behaviour. Few days updates will be downloaded and installed in the background and you will notice high HDD activity. These activities can slow down notebook performance and what you can notice is this slow typing reaction or freezing video play.
So my advice is to disable automatic updates and set it when updates are available you should get notification but you can start it manually. These all possible vista updates installation is for me big mistake because if you check available updates many of them are optional and some of them are driver updates (3 of them) these updates must not be installed.
Maybe you should install recovery image again. don't connect it to internet and do what is described in posted thread. After optimizing preinstalled OS change settings for Windows update and connect it to internet. Check list of available updates and install important and recommended stuff only.
I do always so and I am happy with my Satellite P200 and new A300. Both of them runs well and I am satisfied with performance.

  • One user accounts hung up, all others fine

i am running an imac g5 (1.8 ghz) w/ 1.5gb ram. just upgraded to 10.4 last month with no problem. i run 4 accounts on the machine. one of the accounts is expereincing extremeley slow click reaction and application launch speed speeds. like 5 minutes to launch word or open a photo. all other accounts are fine - even when running in parallel. i ran fix permissions and it did not help. any ideas

Delete the bad account, saving the data (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1061.html refers), recreate it, using the same username/password combo, open up the saved data dmg (in /Users/Deleted Users/), and slowly copy things from the saved data back. • Ipad 2 is not starting up

My iPad 2 in the last two days has been very slow, in reaction time, and hangs. I have attempted to restart two to three times, to no avail. Should I erase all content and reload the apps and other content??

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
In terms of Safari then clearing it's cache might help : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History).
Closing apps like the previous respondent suggested might also help, though in case you don't know how to close them : when you've double-clicked the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, press the '-' in the top left of any apps that you want to close, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar. Most apps that appear on the taskbar won't be active though, they will just be recently used. Apps have to be coded to make use of multi-tasking, so generally it's only the Apple ones that might be active - though the number of third-party apps that might be is increasing.

  • BT/EA games problems

As many on this forum now probably know, EA games in particular FIFA are very laggy and stutter when playing online. I have wrote many posts on this problem to no avail because both BT and EA state that they have done every test they  can and have found no problem whatsoever. I really want to here from others who still suffer from this problem, I have suffered for nearly a year now and have tried everything imaginable to fix this but have been unsuccessful. I don't know who is to blame but I would like to point out I had no problems when I was on Sky and back then I was getting 8MB speeds and now with BT I am supposedly getting upto 80MB (tests say I am getting 38mb.)
I can honestly say now I have never been so stressed and depressed in my lifetime. It makes it even more astounding that other people are known to suffer from this and have posted on this forum but nothing has ever been done and threads have been left for dead so to speak. I had access to the FIFA 14 early release because of the season ticket and still had the same problems and am stuck as to what to do. I have even e-mailed Mr.Livingstone and got a thorough investigation only to be told that my line is absolutely fine but I am getting a deadlock letter.
Please I ask you to tell me how far you have gone in terms of contacting BT/EA? I have tried everything but gained nothing.

I played FIFA 14 early access through my season ticket and it was horrendous. The gameplay on 14 has been changed anyway so you can imagine how slow the reactions are. One theory going around is that it is something to do with the slim xbox and slim ps3's but who knows. I contacted Xbox and they took it to the higher department and will try and see if there is something wrong with my account which is another theory. BT have done thorough checks and found nothing wrong so have EA supposedly.

  • Any way to enlarge color wheels?

    Hey guys ~
So I finally made the plunge into Speedgrade.  At first I didn't get its wonky, menu-less UI.  And still there are parts of its baffling workflow that remind me of the way things were done with ancient software in the days of yore.  But you know what?  I'm actually starting to like it.  It still needs some fixin', but I dare say I think I'm starting to get it.
That being said, does anyone know if there's a way to increase the size of the color wheels?  Let's face it, anything 10% outside of the exact center of the wheel is pretty much unusable (and that's being generous... it's probably closer to 5%).  After that point, whatever color you're heading towards goes flat-out nuclear.  So there's only an extremely small area in the wheel that's actually relevant to color correction.  As a result, making the smallest of moves inside that area can drastically change your image.
My thought was to enlarge the wheel like you can in Premiere so I could get more accurate, but I haven't found a way to do that... making the wheels panel bigger doesn't increase the size of the actual color wheels.  I also know about the sliders/edit boxes/curves filters, but I would still prefer to use color wheels over those options.  Does anyone know if there's something I'm missing to make the wheels bigger, or have you found a way to use the wheels that works?  Thanks for any help.

Over in the Preferences panel, "Environment", you can change how fast the wheel movement works ... say, add another zero into the "Speed Reduction Ratio" number, and you slow down reaction to the input ... which to my taste makes them much easier to work with. That said ...you're right, in general, about the wheels going to Nuke color way too quickly.
Perhaps the scale is linear and should be a logarithmic one? Anyway, PLEASE feel free to file a bug-report over this ...
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
It would be vastly more useful to have a wider range of the wheel showing smaller changes ....
As to general workflow, there's times when I use the wheels, and other things where the sliders are better as I can guarantee hitting ONE color. This can be shifted one to the other by keyboard shorts ... and this program was originally written by/for colorists. Professional 'old-school' types ... where they used grading "surfaces" (the $2,000 variety), special keyboards, trackballs & million-button "mice" to work. Menus simply took up workspace, and when monitors were 17" diagonal 4:3 CRT's, well ... you fought for every pixel on that screen. Why have menus taking up valuable pixels when your users don't use menus?
I cannot more strongly recommend these resources ...
The starting point within Adobe's SpeedGrade info ...
SpeedGrade Help | SpeedGrade Learn & Support
Especially download the manual pdf ... and ... yea, it's more of a "we have these features that do X" sort of thing than a real-usable manual. Still, it gets into quite a bit of how the program works. ESPECIALLY ... read & print out the keyboard shortcuts. Using these speeds up your work and makes things a bit more precise. One experienced pro colorist said to me that the best list of what the tools in Sg are is the keyboard shorts list. He's not wrong, you know.
A book ... that is on color grading in general but is an immense store of usable knowledge to get work done in grading no matter the app used ... which shows the various tools available in various apps to do X process ... this was and is a huge resource for my progress in color grading in general and SpeedGrade in particular. Especially, coming from a stills-shooter background (35+ years, total family income ... many awards & such ... mattes not one whit in video!) I was used to the histogram ... which is the LEAST usable of the scopes for my now. Vector & parade ... wow, those tell you a LOT about your images.
    http://www.amazon.com/Color-Correction-Video-Second-Edition/dp/0240810783
Also ... while video tutorials take time, they can be very useful. After watching tons, my preferences are for base starting, the AdobeTV ones on SpeedGrade ... and when you see Patrick Palmer, well ... he's the guy that started what eventually became Iridas and then SpeedGrade. He's a wonderful dude who speaks such fluent English it's hard to realize he's German except for the bit of accent, and well ... he knows "his" program, though he's recently moved on to other things.
Past that, in paid videos, I have found the lynda-dot-com ones to be the most useful, and there's several on SpeedGrade in particular and also in using it as part of the Direct Link process from PrPro.
My work setup, btw  ... a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard with all sorts of extra programmable buttons & a spring-loaded zoom button that's heavily customizable to specific programs in the middle ... a Wacom pen-tab for my left hand with it's programmable features (that I've barely tapped into) and on the right, the Kensington Expert Mouse large trackball (2" ball) with a four-button surrounding area of large buttons. You might guess from this, I'm a lefty ... which means pretty ambidextrous. I'm still studying what I do & how ... but about read to start setting more program actions into those tools I've got.
I have a Dell U2312HM monitor, which can be quite nicely calibrated, and am going to pick up a cheap 1920x1080 monitor in the next few days so that I can have the 'main' display within the video programs (tools) on that probably 16" or so monitor, and above it this nice one with the program monitor locked to it. Switching the program to full-screen & back is a pain and I've done it for almost 3 years and I'm just ... DONE. With that.
Is this a full broadcast setup? No ... but then, my clients are TV stations either ... nor Sony Pictures or Pixar or Disney. This calibrates well, and my outputed material has always shown beautifully on my clients computers and TV's.

  • Media folder suddenly "empty" after restart... what happened?

I've been having problems with my MDD over the past couple weeks, ranging from the inability to force quit to having very slow system reactions for basic tasks.
Now, I've probably come to the apex of frustrations within the past few hours because I've got a failing hard drive.  This particular hard drive has four partitions on it.  Of the four partitions, one of which was used primarily for video storage.  One folder in particular had about 150 GB of data in it, and the total remaining free space on this volume equaled about 2 GB.  Unfortunately, after having to perform a forced shut down, this folder now shows up as having "Zero KB for 0 items" (even though I didn't manually delete any of this folder's items), but the volume's total remaining free space is still standing 2GB.
I also think that it's important to point out that the partition this folder is on has, according to the OS, become irreparable by the computer.  As a result, this volume has become read-only, so I don't know if it's possible to access these files through as a Root User (wouldn't hurt to try).
Any thoughts or suggestions as to how I might regain access to these files -- if at all?

You must repair the HD,  if Disk Utility or fsck should fail to repair it, your best bet is DiskWarrior from Alsoft, you'll need the CD to boot from if you don't have another boot drive...

  • Satelite L750-0LM02V reinstallation problem

    Hi guys,
I reinstalled the Win7 system with another language edition. Not the one provided, I used my own disc and erased all the info on the harddrive. So the recovery option is not a choice. After I reinstalled the system, my laptop became really slow... slow as!!!!
the light indicating that it's try to read the hard drive all the time.
Has anyone have the idea how to solve this problem? Thanks.

You have installed Win7 with another language. OK that means you have installed own OS version. We dont know what have you dont with drivers, tools and utilities. So there is no point to start serious discussion. What have you done exactly?
Have you installed all necessary drivers, tools, utilities?
Have you installed some additional software?
Are all hardware components installed properly?
Mostly after fresh OS installation option for Windows update installation is set to automatic and when you go online Windows starts to install all available updates. It can be hundreds MB on data and notebook download and install it in the background so what you can notice is permanent HDD activity and slow notebook reaction if you want to do anything.
My advice is to change Windows update settings. Disable automatic and use Check for updates but let me choose... With other words: updates will not be installed automatically and you can choose the time for updates installation. Do it during some working pause and leave notebook install all important stuff. Do not install optional updates, especially not some drivers listed there. Use Toshiba drivers only.

  • Windows 8.1 freezes when I am sending messages to Xbox Live friends

When I spend an X amount of time in messages, specifically sending messages to Xbox Live friends, my mouse moves slowly. When that happens my PC crawls to a halt and I cannot exit the app nor can I go back to Desktop.
    Any solutions?

    Hi,
A slow system reaction normally because of over use of system memory and high usage of CPU, to confirm this, open the taks manager in this way:
1.type “task manager” at the search box, open task manager, then click “performance” tag to check the memory and CPU usage by right clicking at the application, then stop this one.
2.if the usage stands on a high percentage, go to the details tag to stop the applications that cost high resources.
Besides, I suggest to go to the Xbox site to check the minimum requirement:
Download speed: 3 megabits per second
Upload speed: 0.5 megabits per second
    Ping speed:Less than 150 milliseconds
And other requirements you can find it here to check the details for Xbox:

  • Can radiation affect the bluetooth connection to my mouse/keyboard?

The nature of the gremlins I am experiencing almost on a daily basis would suggest not, for instance the mouse appears to lose part of it's functionality a lot. If it was radiation that was the cause then my instincts would tell me that the whole things would cease to operate.
It is also far too sporadic for this to be a likely cause.
I'm only a semi skilled microwave engineer though, so I can't be sure what is causing this.

No you might be correct in one way or another.
I just did my first 10 hour long Time capsule backup with wifi and all through that my wireless mouse and keyboard and no end of problems with slow mouse reactions and the keyboard kept disconnecting.
This could be caused by other things I guess perhaps even a microwave for example when you don't have things like airport on much. Of course they always have the "this device must except any interference" type clause somewhere as standard to all radio products so it can't be helped.
I have heard of changing channels with airport can help certain problems but I don't think it will and I cba to try see.

  • My MacBook battery inflated

I have a MacBook 2.16GHz (Mid 2007) and bought that in March 2008.
Recently I took a close look at the bottom side and saw the battery does not exactly closed. After removing the battery, I found my battery inflated. I think the issue has happened few months ago or last year, I just didn't notify that. Because the battery only inflated slightly, I still can install it to my MacBook and read the battery data, 41 cycle count, 4922 mAH fully charged.
Then, I called Apple Technical Support at Taiwan (should be Asia Pacific support team). She told me that the battery aged and should not be used anymore. I need to buy a new one to replace it. She told me that the inflation is a indication of aged battery and notify the user should replace it with new one.
So, I have curious questions here.
    1. if it is a "designed" signature or indication of aged battery, it cannot warn or notify users because not everyone checks the bottom side of MacBook daily. Users might know the issue after the track-pad had been damaged by the inflation, or battery explosion, or fire by the short circuit.
    2. I had iBook G4, and there are ASUS and IBM laptops in my family. Their batteries do not have the issue. Aged battery only has less power capacity.
    3. The so-called aged battery has only 41 cycle count and 4922 mAH capacity (about 90% of original capacity, and we know 5500mAH is a theoretical value). If the so-called "aged" battery didn't inflated, I still can use the battery with the only 90% charged capacity without buying new one. Even if the capacity has only 50%, I'm still happy to use it because I didn't use battery power for long time use.
I have no idea of any solutions. But definitely I don't like to and won't buy new Apple official battery because 1) it is more expansive, and 2) it could inflates again and damage other components of my MacBook (even I have Apple Care Protection Plan, but it is going to expire in next year). I could never spend money for this if the God d**n battery didn't inflate, no matter what the capacity is.
God bless your MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPod, iPhone, and everything of Apple's product which contains a battery.

We both know battery charge and discharge are slow chemical reactions. But they are controllable (won't cause fire or explosion like bomb or rapid chemical reactions) and then can be go to the market. Besides, the consumers should not keep using the inflated battery. That would lead to battery explosion or fire. Therefore, consumers also have responsibilities of keeping good habits of using batteries.
But it should not be a excuse for me because Apple Technical Support told me that is a battery protective mechanism and an indication. The inflation tells consumers the battery has aged and should be replaced. Batteries does not all work well in the way human designed it. It contains complex chemical reactions inside batteries and should be statistics and a probability issue. For all batteries being produced, they might have the following distribution (just for illustration)
2% not QA passed (cannot be recharged, cannot supply power, defects)
    98% QA passed and shipped
In those 98% QA passed batteries, can we say they have the same condition and follow the same battery rule? NO, I think, because some of the problem could be emerged from normal use, for example (for illustration)
1% cannot be charged, cannot supply power after multiple charge/discharge.
1% cells will inflate. They will make the battery inflated after many months or years
98% normal and battery cell capacity become low
So, if we can call the first 1% batteries are defects, why the second 1% batteries are not defects. On the contrary, Apple tell me that is age battery.
So, even mine has only 41 cycle count and 4922mAH capacity after 2 years use, I might call it an age battery but I still would like to use it because other laptops' batteries are older than my MacBook's, *if the battery of MacBook didn't inflate*. There are many people have the same problem with Apple MacBook battery produced in 2006~2008. If the battery materials and inflation issue are a general case, there should be many battery inflation reports of other laptop vendors.
