Small, portable printer - recommendation needed

I just bought a G4 PB, and am heading for Europe in a couple of weeks, and want to bring along the smallest, cheapest printer I can find. I only need b/w output, and a simple USB connections would be fine. Older or refurb would be fine, too.
Anybody have something that they really like?

Richard, welcome to the discussions.
Unfortunatly most printer sizes are pretty standard, I would suggest you look at any of the HP line of printers, You should be able to find any of the older 950 series to work and work well with a minimum of problems. (PLUG AND PLAY) This printer is of course USB and all the drivers are all preInstalled for either OS 9 or OSX.
You can find this printer, I am sure for under $100.00 the only downside if there is one the 78 & 45 Ink are from $25. to $32. This printer will print anything you need from B/W to Photo quality.
Bear in mind there are 100s out there, and cheap butI would opt for a little bit of quality over the bargin basement printers.
Cheers Don

  • Small portable printer for iPad

Is there a small portable printer that I can take with me to use with the ipad.
I have a Cannon ip90 which is great, but it won't print without my macbook!
In my job, I need to print out the forms on site and have people sign the
documents. It is frustrating that I cannot print from the ipad to my printer
without carring the macbook along too. Any ideas????
    Thanks

There is a solution ... I've been happily printing for a while from my iPad to my battery-operated HP H470 with absolutely no wires (and no router / pre-existing WiFi connection - it operates in AdHoc mode). Literally just the iPad and the H470 - in fact, one time in a marquee in the middle of a muddy field with no power and a long way from the nearest WiFi connection, so it can be done from literally anywhere.
I also couldn't find any info on a true mobile printing solution for iPad (or iPhone/iPod for that matter) but felt sure it must be possible, somehow - so once I'd sorted it all out, I wrote down the solution and the steps to get it to work in the hope of helping others:

    Hope that's helpful!

  • Small Workgroup Printer Recommendation

    Hi,
I currently run an office of 6 people; 2 on Macs, the rest on XP, all on a LAN (but no server, as yet). Each desk has an inkjet printer. This is costing us £600+ per year.
I'd like to move us all off of these "cheap to buy, but dear to run" printers, and use a central networked printer. Cost isn't the only reason. I have to do colour prints occasionally that mean my current inkjet is chugging away for 1-4 hours. However that level of print use is a few times a year at the moment.
While a all-in-one would be great, we need to photocopy at A3 occasionally, so an AIO is out. We also need to have at least three paper bins: headed paper, continuation paper, and copy paper. It'd be good to have a forth override try to put in the lesser used headed paper/invoice forms. It may be I'd have to settle for two trays and an override. Our print load isn't high. Less than 500 sheets per month.
Can anyone recommend an A4 printer? I'd also like to know if my assumption that the print driver is intelligent to realise that a two page letter would use one headed page and one continuation, without the users intervention (other than preference settings). I'd also like to know if laser media is really cheaper than inkjet overtime.
    Thanks,
    Frank.

    Hello Frank,
Just wanted to make a comment about the driver intelligence question. The answer is no, the driver is not able to determine the difference. It usually requires user intervention to select the desired trays. That said, there is often a way that the application can preset the tray selection, such as Page Setup it Word for mail-merging.
And from my experience laser is definitely cheaper to run than inkjet. Our office had a mixture of ink on the users desks and laser in central places. We found users would print locally rather than walk a few metres to the lbp and this was costing us a small fortune. So we disposed of some of the inkjets and forced users to print to the lbp, and noticed a considerable price reduction in consumables. For the record we're using Canon iR Copier/MFD's, and while they cover all the requirements you are looking for, they are probably overkill for your office as they have much higher volumes than 500/month (and they probably cost considerably more than what you are willing to pay).

  • Printer Recommendation Needed

My husband needs a new low-end desktop Mac, and I have a MacBook. We share a printer connected to his desktop now, but he is unhappy with his inkjet printer and wants something better with his new system.
Any recommendations for a laser - black and white or color - to connect to his new iMac and to wirelessly network to my MacBook? Both will be using 10.5.x.
    Thanks!

I have a Samsung SCX-4500, a black and white laser printer that works well with Leopard. I've been able to connect to it also over my AEBS. You can probably get the same functionality out of their lower end model that doesn't include the scanner. Both are available on the Apple Store on line.

  • URGENT Portable HD Recommendations needed for G4 Powerbook

    PLEASE HELP
I would like a portable HD to back up and carry my itunes and special files with me on holiday etc...
I brought an enclosure for an old powerbook HD which was nice and small, but while it powers up when plugged into my Ebook it won't when plugged into my powerbook. Appears that the powerbook does not have enough power to run it or something (of course, being portable, it has no external power supply). Any Ideas of brands that work.
    Thanks

I use a 120gb Seagate FreeAgent Go. Most of the time it is connected to my AEBS, but I connect it directly to the PB when importing multiple CD's or when on the go. The first portable drive I tried was a Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini, but returned it as it required more power than the PB USB ports could put out. I've had this setup for about a year now.
I recommend getting a second Firewire drive and backup software such as Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner to backup your PB and portable drive.
Hope this bit of info helps.

  • HT4356 I need a portable printer to print from iPad and a Lenovo laptop for documents

I currently have a Canon iP100 portable printer that works fine for my laptop and I can use it on the road, in car, and at home.  But I now need one that also can print from an iPad and that I can take with me on the road.  I am having trouble finding a PORTABLE/MOBILE printer that can do documents, not just photos, and that can do AirPrint and wireless.
    Thanks for your help.
    -CM

I had this problem too.   Although I don't have internet, I can provide mains power and I need a small printer.
I bought an HP officejet H470 and a Lantronix Xprint server Home.  This supports a huge anmount of printers (iP100) included.  It works really well when I connect to my home router.  I can use the print function on the iPad and iPhone as if it was an airprint printer.
I do have a problem though, configuring the ultimate goal of connecting through an Airport Express.  I would like to be able to use the airport express to provide the network and connect the lantronix to the ethernet port, in turn connecting the printer via USB.  Anyone any ideas of how to configure this?  Is this bridge mode?
    Thanks

  • Does anyone knows a cheap portable printer for iPad?

    Hi,
I need a portable printer for my iPad. There is no much choice and all of them are expensive (>600$).
Does anyone know a good portable printer for iPad?
I don't need to print photos but documents (A4)

    Some suggestions here:

Battery-powered printers are rather few and far between and of those that exist not all will work with an iPad. Using a standard AC WiFi printer with an inverter will give you more options.

  • New Inkjet Printer Recommendations?

My little trusty HP 932c (from the stone age) has finally given up the ghost.
I'm interested in getting something in the $200ish range to replace it, though I would consider going higher if features would warrant the additional cost.
I've only just started looking around, but a couple of things have already caught my eye about some of the new HP models.  I haven't looked at others yet, though of course I'll need to try to understand the Epson line as well.
    These things would be desirable:
    1.  Decent photo printing on 8-1/2 x 11, though larger (e.g., 11 x 17) might be nice - just not necessary.  Keep in mind I considered my 932c, with its 1200 x 2400 dpi mode, to make decent prints (frankly, they look beautiful on glossy HP Premium Plus photo paper).
    2.  Wireless connection via my router would be nice.  It would free up the necessity to have the printer located near my desktop workstation, which would be convenient.
    3.  Up to now I was limted to sRGB gamut printing with the old printer.  Wider gamut color capability might be nice.  I'm not above considering a different brand, though I can't discount the fact that this old, inexpensive inkjet worked so well for so long on so many different operating systems.
    4.  The ability to print decent documents occasionally on plain paper as well.  In other words, this will not be just for photo printing.
Your experience and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    Thank you, Charles.
Lundberg, Oy right back at ya!    I didn't say this was the only thing I print to.  I often use labs such as Winkflash for big prints.  This is a replacement for my office "quick printer" that needs to be a Jack of all trades.  And perhaps it didn't occur to you that photo printing isn't the prime reason I have a powerful workstation (though I paid a good bit less than $10K for it).  Hint:  Running a software engineering company might have something to do with it.
I'm leaning toward an HP, e.g., Envy 120, as I've gotten long and reliable service out of my current HP.  13 years across 5 operating systems of compatibility and great looking prints tend to build brand loyalty.

  • Inkjet printer recommendations wanted.

Can anyone recommend a good, photo quality inkjet printer that takes 11x17" paper, that will make good prints directly from ID?
We use an old, clunking Epson Stylus Color 3000 (and an old laptop with Tiger loaded to run the antique printer driver) for 11 x 17" from pdfs, and an Epson Stylus C120, which makes really good 8.5" x 11" almost photo quality prints directly from ID.
Just saw this Brother on sale, and am wondering if anyone has used it:

  • Wireless Printer Recommendations?

    Hey all,
I have been unable to connect to my home office network with my MacBook Pro to print documents. So, I am looking for a decent (preferably small-ish) printer for use with my MBP. I'd prefer to sans an Airport device and connect to a "wireless" printer instead. I am printing quality color documents, but not photos.
Budget: $100-$200 (less is always good however)
I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have.
    Cheers,
    ~ J

I have the older Canon IP5200R. Once I set my wireless network I then connected the printer (by Canons instruction manual) via USB, setup it for wireless WPA (my Airport Extreme is use WPA2 wireless security) the printer work wirelessly perfect. The only drawback is if I change Airport Extreme wireless security I must re-connect the printer via USB, to set the printer up for the new wireless security setup.
When you get a wireless printer, make sure you READ the Manual's wireless setup instructions.

  • A3 Printer Recommendation

My canon 9000 printer has died so need new - A3 Printer - Recommendation on  a printer that will operate on my old power mac G5 - OS X 10.5.8 would be very much appreciated

    Welcome, Wombat!
I don't have a specific recommendation for an A#-capable unit (not a common size in my corner of the world) but can relate my experiences with finding printers for older Macs.
In helping a friend get a printer for an old Mac, we found no current multifunctions that did not require an Intel processor, something the G5 lacks. However, we did find some inexpensive print-only ink jets from Canon and Brother that, by getting drivers from their web sites, would support as far back as G3 processors and Mac OS10.3.9. We set him up with a Canon PIXMA 3100 (I think--that was about 18 months ago!).
