Smart Center launches window on start-up of ToushSmart 300

I've noticed that the Smart Center ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\TouchSmart\SmartCenter 2.0\SmartCenter.exe" chromeless) launches on every few start-ups. Whereas the Dock has options to choose whether or not it launches at start-up, I can't seem to find any for the Smart Center. I dragged all the programs (Canvas, Hulu, etc.) to the bottom, which according to the videos means they're not running, but the Smart Center continues to launch at periodic start-ups. I do know how to stop it via MSCONFIG but before I do I thought I'd ask for other options? The only reason it concerns me is because it adds to start-up time when I'm wanting to do keyboard work.
(Have searched help files, solutions and tips & tricks w/nothing found.)

Unless you know of a specific log entry, I would hold off posting more that most can't decipher.
I understand that, but without knowing which specific bit of the log entry is relevant, it's hard to make that call. I'd hoped that by posting the whole thing someone could point me in a specific direction.
Most of the time it is a matter of trial and error and removing 3rd party devices, cables, and looking at 3rd party background processes, driver extensions, apps, haxies, and such.
The problem I have doesn't repeat itself after I've replaced the HD with my backup SD clone. Yet the SD clone was updated a week after this happened the first time, when I was sure that everything was working fine. It was then updated a couple of times after that, and 2 months must have gone by when it happened again yesterday, causing me to have to restore. So working on the principle of removing stuff in order to test whether its them, when they all seem to work fine for weeks, seems unlikely to be fruitful, as much as I'd like to know what it is.
You may need to reapply the combo update for 10.5.4, or do an archive and install.
I'd already performed the former. I guess an A & I can't hurt.

Windows 7 starter re-install disk

hi folks,
I had a bios issue a few weeks ago and sent my ideapad s10-3t t repair. Bios issue was resolved , however, I cannot boot into windows 7. I tried to use one key recovery and it does not help either. I was wondering if they replaced new motherboard and system does not recognize it.
The problem is that I did not create a recovery disk before I sent it to repair. Any idea how to resovle such issue?

So here is my tail... I have owned and loved my Lenovo laptops for years. In fact I have 6 laptops that are less than 3 years old.
When I saw the new S10-3t I wanted one. So I ordered it, waited a long time to get it. Received it two days ago and started playing with it.
The first thing I did was uninstall all the trial ware. I then found out how limited Window 7 starter is so I wanted to upgrade to a higher version. Before I do this I should create the restore media like any responsible owner. Well I didn't have an external DVD connected when I launched the Create factory default recovery disk, so it gave me an error saying it couldn't burn a DVD. I thought maybe it would build an ISO that I could just copy off. That was fine I will go grab my external DVD. But I noticed that I now have an extra drive showing up in my computer, and on that drive is all the restore image stuff.
I then connect the DVD drive and relaunched onekey. This time I get an error saying "The program cannot find the service partition.” So it won’t let me create a disk and the system restore button doesn't work.
I believe this is because the partition is suppose to be hidden and now it is present to windows.
Well I didn't want to try to "fix" my 2 day old computer, so I called tech support. Their answer was this. Yes it's broke. It is a software issue. I have two options, send it in for reimaging or get it replaced by sales.
I find this crazy for a software issue.
So I’m asking the community to help. Is anyone smarter than Lenovo's first level tech support and has a fix for this or could someone make me a copy of their backup DVD's (I would give you some money for Disk and shipping)? I know the second is "wrong" but so is sending in a laptop for a software bug. If Lenovo would sell me the media I would be happy, but they don't have media because this unit doesn't come with a DVD drive.

SCCM 2012 SP1 - Software Center appears twice in Start Menu

Hi guys,
i just finished implementing a fresh SCCM 2012 SP1 Installation for a customer. The whole OSD works like a charm (except some issues with the latest Windows updates breaking the whole OSD, will open a separate thread for this soon), but after the deployment
the Software Center is appearing twice in the Start Menu (We're using Win7 Enterprise SP1 x86 English with 5 integrated language packs). I first thought this has something to do with the integrated language packs, but both Start Menu entries
are always in the same language.
The strange Thing is, that one entry for the SCCM Software Center is called "Software Center" and the other one "SoftwareCenter" (without a space). We configured 2 Client policies, one with EP-enabled and one without EP. We
deployed the Client Settings to different collections so i don't think that this is causing the Problem?Do you guys have any idea why this is Happening?
Has anyone ever seen this? See a screenshot below:

I don't think it is related to the upgrade to SP1.I think it might be a General issue in SP1. I started with a fresh SCCM 2012 SP1 Installation and i also have 2 Software Center entries in my start menu. If i check the shortcut i can see that one shortcut
was created when i captured my base Image, the other one was created during the Install OS Task Sequence.

Can't install hp solution centerin Windows 7 starter

In order to save money on color ink, which we rarely use, in my officejet 4500 g510n, I wanted to set all computers on the network to print with black ink only. To do this I have found that I must go thru the Hp Solution Center which I have accomplished on all but one. That one computer is a Dell inspiron mini netbook with windows 7 starter. I have tried uninstalling and redownloading the software from the HP support site to no avail. This computer only offers me minimal installation and it only installs the driver and no other software.
I know that I can choose the settings for printing black only each time there is a print command but the user of this computer cannot always remember how to do this and, if the color cartridge is low, the document will not print at all. It just gives a low ink warning. All this is troublesome and I would like to be able to set the printer to only use the black cartridge installed.
Is there any way I can get the full software package for this netbook?

You can change the default printing to print black only without the software if you would like;
Follow these steps to change the default print settings for all print jobs.
On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon (), and then click Devices and printers.
Right-click the printer icon () for your product, and then click Printing preferences.
Select your new default print settings, and then click OK.

Disabling special alerts in the "Change Action Center settings" window

In Windows 8.1 Update, I noticed that, in the "Change Action Center settings" window in the "Control Panel", the "Microsoft Account", "Windows Activate", "Windows Backup" and "Apps launcher" alerts
can not be disable even with a local account of Administrators type. How come? What is the meaning of these alerts? How do I disable them?

Hi,
Please know that these options inform you of any issues with them if you have gotten them setup. If you haven't set up them, the option appeared to be grey.
Once they are grey, no such alerts will display about them.

PSE 12 Editor is not launching - Window opens and asks for registration

I have PSE 12 (German Version) and had this successfully installed and working on my home desktop. End of January I moved to the US for some months and have installed my PSE 12 on my laptop (Win 8). I have moved the entire cataloque according to instructions from the desktop to an external hard disk and reconnected it with the new installation. After checking my installation of PSE 12 on the laptop (everything worked fine) I have deleted the installation on my desktop.
After a good week, today I have tried to launch PSE Editor (from the main start window, where it offers on the top left the Organizer and right the Editor (as buttomns). As soon as I press the Editor bottomn, a new window opens and requests me to do registration of my product "within 7 days - otherwhise I can no longer use the software". Again this is a German Version and I just translate. In this window, I can enter my Adobe ID & password, which I did. Some seconds after entering my access data the window closes and shows the PSE launch window again. When I then want to launch the Editor, the same cycle starts: The window opens, requesting to do my registration.
I can open the Organizer with no problem and it works. But even from the organizer I can not launch the Editor.
My account shows that I have successfully registered my S/N & Product, which I did back some month ago when I had purchased it.
Who can helpl me?

PSE 6 is indeed compatible with Windows 7 -- many people have reported successfulling using it. (But Adobe won't provide any support.) See this FAQ:

you just open the dialog without specifying an align-id or align orientation (just only provide the popup ID in the showPopupBehavior tag added to the command launching the popup)

Windows 7 Starter share problems

I have a simple home network, has MYW7 (Starter), MYVISTA, MYXP and MYSAMBA(Linux) systems. No domain controller. I did the LmCompatibilityLevel registry hack to make Samba work.
Same user/pswd accounts on all systems.
MYW7 firewall is a 'Home' network.
MYVISTA, MYXP, MYSAMBA all can see each others shared disks, C, D, E(dvd), I've shared everything.
MYW7 can see drive C, D, E(DVD) on MYVISTA, C and D on MYXP, and all files on MYSAMBA. That works fine.
When I try to access anything from MYXP or MYVISTA to MYW7, I get a user/pswd request but there's nothing that I can type to satisfy it. When I type a valid user/pswd, it comes back with 'unable to log in' and suggests a user name of 'MYVISTA\mylogin' instead
of what I typed which was 'mylogin'.
I've turned on:
File and printer sharing
turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders
Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryptino
password protected sharing
allow Windows to manage homegroup connections
I'd like to be able to see MYW7 files from MYXP and MYVISTA, and I'd like to be able to look at drive D from MYW7 to MYVISTA.
Also, when browsing the network using Windows Explorer, I often cannot see *some* systems, but I can get to them by doing a search for \\MYXP. This has been an ongoing problem. Is there some way I can cause the network browser to refresh the display and
find the missing nodes so it can display them in the tree of available nodes?

Please try the following steps in your Windows 7:
1. Launch regedit from Start Search box.
2. Find the following branch.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
3. Create a DWORD key under Lsa and set:
Name: LmCompatibilityLevel
Value: 1
4. Restart.

I cannot get MLB gameday any more on this computer. Windows 7 starter. I can get it on IE. Why?

I used to have no problem getting Major League Baseball Gameday on my netbook. However, it might be since the latest version of Firefox, I cannot access it any more. My netbook has Windows 7 starter. I can get it with IE but I don't like using IE. I have no problem accessing the site with my laptop which uses XP. Any idea why? Also having problems accessing the MLB media center.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes (similar to those above) and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Installing Wnidows 7 - remove HP Smart Center ????

While upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, I was advised to remove HP Smart Center or it may not work properly. Is this really necessary? If so, how do I remove and then reinstall Smart Center to full functionality. Thanks very much.

If this is the IQ700 series, go to Control Panel, Programs and Features (formerly Add/Remove Programs in the XP days), scroll down to SmartCenter and click Remove
However, there is no way to reinstall the application once on Windows 7. It's not compatible with the new Windows Media Center anyway.
If you wish to keep it, you should stay on Windows Vista.

I'm getting this with the Citrix Receiver uninstaller from the command line... but not on all Mountain Lion 10.8.5 systems. Googling turns up a lot of ideas about a problem with the app or in pre/post-flight scripts, but since it works on some, I wonder. What is the mechanism that generates this error? I'm guessing there's some setting or condition that exists on one system that isn't true on the other. How do I find out?

Contact Wacom. Unless they have updated drivers there is no workaround.
Update or remove Quicksilver.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

FF launches twice on start-up

Recently FF launches twice on start-up.
The second is with a BING page.
My start-up folder only has one FF in it. How do I stop this.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and search for prefs that refer to TEXT and reset related user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

Help Center for Windows Vista 2.00h 7kth12ww.exe doesn't install correctly Help!!

I have been trying to install 7kth12ww.exe on a fresh copy of Vista x64. I have selected all the default options, and the installation says it has completed. Yet when I launch "Help Center for Windows Vista" I see, >this<. Now this has been up long enough that I would think others are seeing it as well, yet I seem to be the only one with the problem. Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?

I found a solution that works for me, It is I believe a driver error. It is reproducible, and the solution involves creating the correct folder structure. PM me if you need to know more.

Lenovo Yoga 2 13 - Screen going back to windows 8 Start page every 5 seconds

I've had for a few months this weird problem I find no solution for. In laptop mode, my screen randomly go back to the windows 8 start page while the laptop loudly vibrates. Even when I'm not touching the laptop it does so. I've searched for long on this forum and others but I still have not found any solution.
Could somebody please help me ? :-)
