SmartView retrieve

Hi There,
I have template setup in Essbase Excel Addin, however when I try to use SmartView to retrieve, I got the following error:
"Invalid free form, row 4 invalid, it has repeat members of a dimension and mutiple dimensions"
Wondering why it is working fine at addin, but not smartview.
Here is layout of the excel: (all dims are here: Account, Scenaro, Year, Month, Dept)
Expense
Budget
2010 2010 2010 2011 2011
Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb (this is row 4 the error mentioned)

  • Does Member Selection (SmartView) == Retrieve (Excel AddIn)

I just purchased the "Look Smarter.." book and it starts off by referring to a 'Retrieve' function in the Excel Add-In that pulls dimensions, member and associated data-values from an Essbase db (in my case Sample:Basic). I however have the SmartView Add-In running on Excel 2007, and there isn't any 'Retrieve' function that I can see.. The closest I can find is something called "Member Selection" that can be used to pull in dimension/members names. However this does not seem to pull in any actual data for these dimensions/members. I have already loaded the Sample:Basic db with data, so it's in there somewhere. I just need to know how to pull it all into Excel so that I can continue following along with Mr. Roske!
    Appreciate any input.
    thanks,
    Akshay

    Cameron,
I followed your steps EXACTLY, but it only displays the Year and Market dimensions.. no 133980 data value! Just to confirm that I have the correct sequence, I did the following in order:
    1. loaded data.txt into Demo:Basic in EAS
    2. ran an 'Execute Calculation' of the 'default' calc script in EAS.
    3. opened a fresh Excel workbook and connected to Demo:Basic and activated it
    4. clicked on Refresh.
The only other thing that happens is that a little window with drag-and-drop for 'Product' , 'Account' etc. shows up on the sheet. I tried to do a drag-and-drop of these extra dimensions, followed by another Refresh, but still no data value(s) appear.
The funny thing is everything work perfectly when I use the Excel-Addin instead of SmartView! In fact, when I use Excel-Addin, the 133980 shows up even if I don't explicitly run the default calc script. So, I have a feeling that my problem is localized to SmartView.
    thanks,
    Akshay

  • SmartView Retrieve Optimization

How can i reduce the time of a retrieve with a big data set (500 rows x 60 cols), client-side solution or server-side optimizations are welcome.

the retrieve is taking 2 minutes, it is posible to make it run faster? or this time is short for that action? With 4 sparse dimensions in row orientation, the Essbase engine has to do a bunch of work to get the data.. I would look at the application log to see how long the Essbase retrieve operation actually is, then compare that to the time to render in the spreadsheet. This will give you a baseline of how much time is Smart View vs how much time is Essbase.
Do you need the all of those dimensions in row orientation? I have seen instances where it is necessary to get the report you want. In those cases, you will pay the price of time..

  • Slow performance in Smartview retrieval in Essbase ASO Application

    Hi,
I am not able to retreive in Smartview for ASO application when taken Bottom- all retreivals for Product dimension (propertiy set as multiple hierarchies enabled) that has 17000 members under it and keeping all other 11 dimensions at top level.
Accounts has 9000 members in which 9 members have MDX formulas
Scenario has 65 members in which 48 members have MDX formulas
It also displays session timeout error while drilling down to all bottom levels in Product dimension keeping all other dimensions at top level in Smartview.
I was able to retreive using Excel Add-in but it took around 15 minutes.
Is there any way to reduce the smartview retreival times in ASO application? Please advice.
    Thanks in advance
    Shyam

You can try creating aggregate views
However it may be the MDX formulas which may not have been optimized - try to zero on the member formulas which may be causing this. Try to retrieve set of accounts and then check.
Assuming that your timeout registry settings (ReceiveTimeout, KeepAliveTimeout, ServerInfoTimeout ) are properly set

  • Time stamp a Smartview Retrieve

    Hello!
Does anyone have something that puts a time stamp on a excel sheet upon retrieval/refresh of a sheet?
    thanks,
    Brent

You might try adding a macro: McGimpsey & Associates : Excel : Time and date stamps
You can try using a substitution variable as well if they can be set to CurDate and CurTime read from your system.

  • SmartView Retrieval error

    Hi Folks,
Excel and Smart view being used is Excel 2010 and 11.1.2.5
We are trying to 'Refresh All sheets' in a workbook which has ~ 130 tabs. Everything was working till couple of weeks back. We needed to add one more tab with just one change in the org dimenison. Once it is added and if we try to do 'Refresh All Sheets', we are getting the below error message.
"the specified width is invalid or cannot be set because of the current dock position"
Has anyone faced this error? Any guidance with regard to this is highly appreciated.

Maybe you are hitting some kind of limit then, 130 sheets is quite a lot
If you can reproduce then it is worth logging it with Oracle Support.
    Cheers

  • Data not rolling up of a dynamic calc member for a particular entity

    Hi,
In my planning application data is not rolling up of a dynamic calc member for a particular entity whereas it is working fine for other entity.
Please find below the sample Smartview Retrieve
    ----------------Member_ALL---Member_None---Member Top---Member_ALL---Member_None---Member Top
    ----------------Entity 1----------Entity 1------------Entity 1----------Entity 2----------Entity 2------------Entity 2
    Acc1------------100----------------#--------------------#---------------122---------------#-------------------122
    NOTE: # denotes missing
Member_ALL and Member_None are children of Member_Top. Both Member_ALL and Member_Top are Dynamic Calc whereas Member_None is Store.
As shown above data is rolling upto Member Top for entity 2 while it is not getting rolled up for Entity 1.
Request you to please help in finding the error.
    Thanks in Advance'
    Joseph

    Hi Joseph,
Is Acct 1 Dynamic Calc? In that case will it NOT calculate the combination MemberTop->Entity1 as Member_ALL->Entity1 + Member_None->Entity1.
I beleive it'll calculate the Acct1 member again for Member Top based on the dynamic formula (whatever the logic). If you make it Acct1 Stored, then the aggregation will be correct by first calculating and storing the Acct1 member and then AGG the Member dimension.
    Cheers,

  • FDM Drill Through from HFR

    Greetings all -
I have not been able to find much documentation about the new FDM drill through feature from HFR. I'm looking for how it works, what is going on in the background, etc. I assume that it is mostly based on a SQL query back to FDM, but is there more to it than that?
I appreciate any information or documentation to be had.
    Thank you,
    Sarah

    Hello Sarah,
The drillthrough from HFR to FDM is seemless. The Hyperion Applications (HFM, Planning, Essbase) all store the information if it came from FDM in a unique way. This unique way is now an identifier so that drillback is available only for the valid cells. Other products that leverage that data (FR, Smartview, Retrieve) will then interpret that data as well.
The drillback actually launches a pre-built FDM WebPage, Logs you in with the credentials provided via the source, and then displays potential records.
    Thank you,

  • Clustering - is it worth it?

About one week a month we kill our HFM server, close week. We currently have a single instance of HFM on one server. Have another server that isn't doing much and was reading up on HFM clustering. Tried it when it was HFM 3 but haven't revisited it since...
Soo... HFM 9.2.0.3 - is clustering worth the effort of setting up?

    Hi,
What I mean is, that I guess you must have a core of HFM Application Administrators, power users if you like, who do the biggest consolidations. Well you can set up your second HFM application server so that only these power users know about it. So normal users will do what they have always done, but the power users will run their big consolidations on this second server, that way their big consolidations will not hamper the users too much.
Yes the 300 seconds sync delay can be a problem, 5 minutes is a long time to wait, the rule I have always followed is never go below 60 seconds. If you go too low on busy servers the cubes will start getting flushed so often that you are not getting any caching benefits, plus the checking for changes has a cpu overhead. However if you are only running 2 application servers its not really a problem. If you are running allot more application servers then this setting may well start to get critical and cause problems.
The mechanics used for multi server and clustering have not changed that much since 3.5, Im not sure if the function already existed in 3.5 but in later versions hfm has a UseStickyServer setting which is enabled by default. That means that a user logging on to a server cluster and running reports and comparing them to data forms for example or Excel smartview retrieves will always use the same hfm application server for its data source. That way a user will always see the same data if he uses his ID multiple times, however this will not work for multiple users, If they land on different application servers then they will always see different data till the cubes get refreshed.

  • Many mintues to retrieve or submit in SmartView 11.1.1.3

    Dear SmartView Forum,
I just rolled out the 11.1.1.3 suite in production and I've got at least 2 users in remote office locations having uber slow retrieval and submission times in SmartView.
They are using a spreadsheet that is distributed by their department with bunches of tabs with data that gets pulled into three tabs that are Planning forms opened with SmartView.
Step one when opening the file is to retrieve in the forms. This is taking 15-20 minutes. Submitting the data takes as long. The users have to submit many times while forecasting, so this kind of slowness is unacceptable.
It does not appear every remote user is having the problem, but the only users reporting the problem are remote. By remote I mean they work in WAN connected offices connected back to our main campus by T1.
I was focused on network being the problem this morning, but now I'm less so. Planning web and the "legacy" add-in (props to you, Matt, for the new terminology) work fine. The problem is SmartView itself, I'm almost convinced, but it could still be network if SmartView and APS are doing alot of talking back and forth, and in 9.3.1 SmartView and Planning did not.
Please anyone with ideas about this pipe up and help me figure this out. It's kind of important that these people be able to forecast.
    -- Joe

    Cameron Lackpour,
That's what I was thinking, pretty much. Network routing of different packet types or something that I don't know enough about to fully articulate. Or SmartView itself, somehow.
Knowing that the Essbase add-in (is a qualifier actually needed?) communicates directly to the Essbase server via TCP/IP and SmartView communicates via HTTP to the APS server, I was unable to fully eliminate network even when I got fast responses via the add-in. And I didn't know what to make of the Planning web interface (IE7) working fine, since SV uses IE components in the background. That's HTTP, too, to the same server as APS, but a different port.
We had a network guy on it and the whole network team brainstorming. They found nothing. So... still puzzling it out. Almost certain I had the unfortunate coincidence that the two people with problem machines were both in remote locations, meaning the whole network thing is a red herring and their computers just suck (or need rebooting or have some obscure Excel option turned on or whatever the case may be).
That's actually good news, because the alternative is remote planners all over the country unable to work because of some unknown problem. Plus, I'd have to answer for not discovering it in testing.

  • Member formula error while retrieving in smartview?

I am trying to execute this member formula
    IF (@ISMBR(@RELATIVE("SENDER_PROJECT",0)))
    IF ("Allocation Pct" <> #Missing)
    "Allocation Amount"=("Account_sub1"->"PFL_Projects"->@MEMBER(@SUBSTRING(@NAME(@CURRMBR("Project")),6))*"Allocation Pct");

    ENDIF;
    ENDIF;
When I try to retrieve the data for this formula, I get the following error.
Error(1200370)Error executing formula for [R_Segment Allocation Amount] (line 1): attempt to cross a null member in function [@X]
Is there anything I can modify to not have a null member.
    Thanks!!

Thanks! You were right I created the a sub hierarchy with the specific members and substring command was set a little wrong, I had one higher value.
I reset it to as shown below and it worked!

  • SmartView 11.1.2 - Essbase Error 1020043 - You don't have sufficient access

We have accounting users that have a SmartView Excel file to retrieve data from a BSO cube. This Excel file is set up as a shared file. Sometimes the sheet refreshes ok and sometimes the user gets this error - Error 1020043 - You do not have sufficient access to perform a lock on this database. The file doesn't necessarily have to be in use by more than 1 person when a user receives this error message.
Any idea what is causing this message?
    Thanks.
    Terri Taylor

This may occur if the user having privileges less than that of application manager tries to manipulates the cube. The cube might be locked for other operations like restructuring. You need to check what are other activities are performed on cube at the times when you received such error.

  • SmartView 11.1.2 keeps dropping the connection

I have an SR on this but figured I would try here as well. I believe this has been thrown over to development. We have installed SmartView 11.1.2 and we can connect and retrieve data. We are on 2008 OS, 64 bit. About every 3 or 4 drills in excel SmartView loses the connection. To get around this we just hit refresh all or sometimes just try it again and it seems to re-connect. Anyone else have this issue?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi,
I checked. Patch solves the problem. But you must install:
    - then -> patch
Open IIS console and uncheck the Virtual Memory Usage and the Private Memory Usage (On the Application Pools page, select the application pool used by HFM).
Restart all Oracle Hyperion and IIS services.
In our case, these steps helped.
