Smoothing of asset

hi gurus
kindly resolve the following
what is smoothing of asset
what is the impact when smoothing of asset check box is enabled
why, when and how smoothing of asset is done
thankyou
with regards
ramesh

Hi Mik,
Try giving useful life from new intervel.  To do this, double click on relevant depreciation area and then click on more intervals. There enter new From date and new useful life.
You may have to play around with relevant periods to achieve desired result.

    Hi,
I think the addon is corrupted. have you reinstall B1 addon ? if you have reinstalled but it is still as same, I suggest to upgrade the B1 version and the addon to the latest i.e. SAp B1 8.8 SP00 PL16. You can also log a message to SAP support but test this case first in the SAP B1 8.8 SP00 PL16 environment.

  • Smoothing on Fixed Assets

    Good day SAP Gurus
I would like somebody to explain the mechanics of smoothing on fixed assets.  I am having two scenarios, I want to guided with.
We are having two companies one the same client, one having the smoothing on (flagged) and the  other not.  The problems I encountered were:
    1.  Company A (smoothing flagged):  Bought an asset on 1/11/2007 for UNI 1615731.76 useful live being 2 years.  Company year end being June.  My calculation is that this asset should be fully depreciated by Oct 2009.  What happened is that the depreciation of the last fiscal year is being divided over the whole year and not the remaining 4 months.  According to what SAP say this is correct <<If you set this indicator, the depreciation posting program calculates
the periodic depreciation to be posted by distributing the remaining
depreciation to be posted equally over the remaining periods of the
    fiscal year>>
, but the company felt we must take off that smoothing so that the depreciation must end in October as indicated  (schedule).
    2.  Company B (smoothing not flagged): Year end also June.  (Both companies belong to the same group).  Bought an asset on 1/3/2009 for UNI 5307.00 useful live being 4 years.  This asset is only loaded on the 23/7/2009 on the system (after year end).  Meaning in the year ended June 2009, I should have had a depreciation of UNI 442.00.  When I execute the depreciation run in July, the system is not adding this amount (442) to depreciation of July.  What I see is that the residual value remains 442.  But if I flag the smoothing the depreciation is working correctly.
Can some of you the experts please give the rationale behind smoothing?  One company in the Group having smoothing flagged and the other not.  Where are we going wrong?
    Thanking you
    Theo

This is the help from Smooting.  You can found more information in the asset forum when you search on Smooting.
Smoothing (deprec. for past) when posting depreciation
If you set this indicator, the depreciation posting program calculates the periodic depreciation to be posted by distributing the remaining depreciation to be posted equally over the remaining periods of the fiscal year.
Otherwise the system calculates in each period (based on the total annual depreciation) the amount of depreciation that must be posted from the start of the fiscal year to the current period. The depreciation already posted is then subtracted from this amount. If too little or too much depreciation has been posted in previous periods, the system either makes up or reverses the difference in full during the next depreciation posting run using the catch-up method (depreciation for past periods in a lump sum).

  • Asset Acquisition - Investment measure

    Dear All,
Our client uses investment measures process for posting the acquitsition of fixed assets. We are facing a problem at the time of final settlement to the final asset. The system is not able to derive a profit center at the time of final settlement.
The following details might be useful -
    1) Document splitting is active and profit center is mandatory in the document splitting settings
    2) Investment order is created with Profit center A. The same is settled on an AUC periodically. Here the capitalisation entry is passed in Profit center A.
    3) Two final assets are created with cost centers B & C. These are entered in the settlement rule (KOB5). When we execute the settlement we get an error saying that the profit center cannot be determined.
P.S If we put only one asset in the settlement rule, the settlement goes through smoothly. However, there is a problem - the entry is passed only in one profit center i.e. which is input in the cost center master  (say B). This results in a
AUC value lying in Profit center A and the reversal of this in Profit center B.
Request you to provide a solution for this issue.

    SLS

  • Asset Write up Issue

    Hi Guys,
We started write-up the asset with transaction ABAW and no errors occourred.
Second step: we change the depreciation key in asset master data (transaction AS02) from status MANU to status ZSL0
Third step: we runned the depreciation calculation (transaction AFAB)
Everything seems to be running smooth and no errors were displayed.
Running asset list (ART0 transaction) we discover that:
    - the depreciation started correctly
    - NO NET BOOK VALUE WAS in asset list , no evaluation was taken in consideration from the system.
    - In AW01N transaction all the changes were displayed correctly but ONLY IN THE PLANNED VALUES, NOT IN POSTED VALUES.
Why the system has not posted in the POSTED VALUES?
Please help us resolve this issue.
    Thanks,
    Srik..

    Hi,
We need to write up an asset , but the book value of the asset and not the depreciations. Looking in the ABZU it seems that all the transaction type, are connected with depreciations write-up.
Using any transaction type, it seems that the depreciation is the only value we can write up.
Is there any transaction with which i I can write-up on an asset (e.g.) a book value of 200 USD and then start depreciations on this value?
Can anyone suggest me how we can achieve this.
    Thanks,
    Srikanth.

  • Asset depreciation issue after Credit memo posted to asset.

    Hi,
We bought asset on 2010 Dec with price 100,000 SGD last year. The asset, monthly depreciation = 833.33 SGD with 20 year useful life.
This month, we received an CN to minus 20,000SGD for some reason.
Hence I do credit asset with transaction type 160, post 20,000SGD to this month.
Seem like now system are getting current NBV to calculate the depreciation for remaining useful life. It is not they want.
Business assume to get positive depreciation this month to re-adjust back the 20,000SGD depreciation to this month.
How to get month depreciation value 666.66 SGD after this asset? Hope you can suggest me.

Recheck your Multi Level Method in AFAMS. You should use the base value 24.
Have to ticked "remaining useful life"
Also, check your OAYR settings? Did you select "Smoothing"

  • Asset planned values computed positive value Issue

    HI experts,
I have an existing asset problem where the planned depreciation values becomes positive. Why does it becomes positive? How does system calculates this planned values? We just did some adjustment to the Asset by Credit Memo and another Mark-up transaction. Sample:

                                                                   26,074.08     101,333.33     101,333.33     SGD
But the planned/posted value for this period is positive:

    Green Posted     6     6,370.37

    Posted Values - Depreciation Posted/Planned:
    APC transactions     400,000.00     160,000.00-     240,000.00     SGD
    Acquisition value     400,000.00     160,000.00-     240,000.00     SGD
    Ordinary deprec.     220,000.00-     26,962.96-     246,962.96-     SGD
    Unplanned dep.                    SGD
    Write-ups          101,333.33     101,333.33     SGD
    Value adjustment                    SGD
    Revaluation ord.dep.                    SGD
    Net book value     180,000.00     85,629.63-     94,370.37     SGD
    Down payments                    SGD
    Scrap value                    SGD

I believe in your case, the tremendous reduction in APC cost has caused a tremendous change in planned depreciation.  System looks at the NBV and the remaining periods of useful life each time it calcs depreciation.  Of course also looks at depreciation key, Period Control, and OAYR Smoothing button.  Asset class can also be set for group depreciation.
If a credit memo reduced the APC value dramatically, then the amount of depreciation on the asset at that moment is more than enough so far.  This means that the next running of the AFAB program will reduce its amount of depreciation from the amount it was planning to book since it already has an excess of accumulated depreciation.
Please check in OAYR to know if your Smoothing indicator has been checked for the Company Code.  As I understand the system, if this indicator is checked - the system will not catch-up the whole difference in the next running of AFAB.  Instead, it will smooth out the adjustments due to credit memos, unplanned depreciation, and changes in remaining useful life over the remaining life of the asset.  When smoothing is set, one gets less drastic period to period change.
This setting should be in line with your accounting rules, such as in US GAAP changes in depreciable life are considered estimate changes requiring only prospective corrections, and so should smooth out impact over remaining periods of useful life versus immediate catch-up.
You may want to run a AFAR (check for recalc flags) and then a Repeat AFAB in the current period after making master data changes for depreciation.  All open periods would be impacted by master data changes if you run AFAB.

  • Changing useful life of an asset

    Hi All,
Client wants to change the asset's useful life from 4 years to 3 years. Also previous depreciations should not get affected due to this. The new recalculated value of the asset should be spread over the remaining useful life and depreciation amount should also be recalculated accordingly. Do we have such functionality in SAP version ECC4.6?? or we need to post the depreciation manually going forward?? I have tried smoothing method but this is also not helping me out.
Please advice if we can do something in it.
    Many Thanks,
    Parul

    Hello Parul
Sorry but this functionality is only available as of release 6.0 if you have the
new depreciation engine activated. Note 965032 will provide you more details. In
particular section 4. c) Managing time-dependent depreciation parameters:
With the new depreciation calculation, you now have the option to
change depreciation terms during the fiscal year. This means that
the changed parameters are included in the calculation always
from the period for which the period is also valid.
The following depreciation terms can be maintained   time-dependently on the   fixed asset:
      -  Depreciation Keys
    -  Useful life
      -  scrap value/scrap value percentage rate
      -  variable depreciation portion

  • Asset Scrapping - Calculating Depreciation for entire year

    Hi guys
We want to scrap an asset without revenue using ABAVN.
    Asset Details:
The asset will be completely depreciated by the end of this year (December)
    We have smoothing indicator on.
We wish to post the retirement and close out the asset balances in this month itself.
(No depreciation should be pending for the remaining periods of the year)
When we post the retirement transaction in test environment, it still shows the planned depreciation for the entire year.
How do we avoid the planned depreciation posting for future periods ?
    Thanks!
    Gautam

Perhaps, the following might be a solution that can be implemented safely in a production setup:
Objective: To post retirement related depreciation in a single period without smoothing over the remaining periods.
    Solution:
Perform standard depreciation posting run for current period
    Turn Smoothing Indicator Off
    Write Off Asset
Run Repeat Depreciation Posting Run (select Repeat Posting Run instead of planned and also input the retired asset number)
    Turn Smoothing Indicator back on
This should post the complete depreciation in the current period for the retired asset and smooth out the depreciation for all remaining assets

    Hi
Ideally you should not face any problem doing AJAB / AJRW now... If all the Planned dep is posted in 2010, it should go through smooth
After running, AJAB, you can check in OAAQ as to the last closed FY.... The balances get transferred from FAGLVTR.. AJAB does not influence the balances..

  • How do I transfer images from the assets pane over to the library pane?

    Hi!
Wouldn’t that make sense to be able to quick drag n’ drop items from the assets-pane over into the library-pane?
    …Making the workflow smoother.
This would help a lot in order to structure the folder’s hierarchy/content – e.g. in Hero_images; Logos; Whatever.
    Otherwise, it’s quit fastidious:
Assuming I’ve already done some work in a project. Let’s say I have 70 images in my assets pane.
    - I select each image, go to usage in the layout
    - I context-menu-click in order to place the image into the library/Hero_images-folder
    - Times seventy, oughf!     :*
Drag n’ dropping from one pane to the other would be much comfortable, no?
    Or did I missed something?
Any hints would be much appreciated!
    Cheers

  • Adding an asset

when ever i try importing an asset it loads to 100% then drops back down to around 75% and loops in this fashion for ever, can i fix this problem or is it that I'm not waiting long enough

Just wait a little longer... ;o) Encore's progress bars and completion estimates are less than just a bit unreliable, to say the least. They will give you completely unrealistic values most of the time (and it hasn't gotten better with CS3). Loading times per-clip should at worst be as long as the clip duration, but even in that case something is wrong and some unnecessary transcoding goes on. On average a 5 minute clip should take just a few seconds. However, if you have many, many short assets, loading may be a bit long-ish as the overhead from checking the files for consistency becomes an issue. On long clips you should not see this behavior, but naturally the progress indicator will stick at 75% rather long after the initila scan before suddenly jumping to 90% and then smoothly counting up to 100%. Importing clips of about an hour can indeed take 10 minutes or more, so a little more patience is advisable. If you're not getting anything imported properly after that time, then something's possibly wrong, in most cases invalid MP2 streams which were encoded externally... Just give it another try and come back if the problems persist.

  • Asset Valuae Date & Captilasation Date

    Dear Experts,
If I purchase asset having an Asset Value Date 01.06.2014 (JUN) & the Capitalization Date 01.01.2014 (JAN)
If I want to calculate the Depreciation on JUN (31st.06.2014),  Will it the Depreciation calculate from JAN or JUN.
As per as I expected at the time of Depreciation running JUN, system should accumulate the last 5 months depreciation & posted into 6th Month i.e. JUN.
    Is it right...!
    Regards
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
    A) Let's say you  have period control "01 Pro rata at period start date" in the depreciation key.
Then you create an asset in AS01, with a useful life of 10 years.  Before saving the asset you also set a capitalization date on 01.01.2014.
Then you post a first acquisiton on 01.06.2014 for 1200.
-> the system will calculate 120 depreciation for 2014, and plannes 60 in period 6 (June), and for every further period (July to December) the system plans 10 per period.
-> Ord.dep.start date   01.01.2014 is set by the system automatically at time of posting the first aqcuisition of 1200.
    B) Let's say you  have period control "01 Pro rata at period start date" in the depreciation key.
Then you create an asset in AS01, with a useful life of 10 years.  You do not set a capitalization date before saving and leave the field blank.
Then you post a first acquisiton on 01.06.2014 for 1200.
-> the system will calculate 70 depreciation for 2014, and plannes 10 in period 6, and same for every further period (June to December).
-> Ord.dep.start date  01.06.2014 is set by the system automatically at time of posting the first aqcuisition of 1200.
By the way, if you, in case A), if you want system to spread the depreciation from January to May over the remaining periods (June to December) instead of a accumulated lump of 60 in period 6 (June), then you can set the "Smoothing" indicator in transaction OAYR in the relevant depreciation area.
I hope this helps to clarify your question.

    Brigitte
