SMTP connection times out on the MMP after a hung dirsync.

The dirsync ran all night, at 8am we found that SMTP to the MMP was no longer working. We restarted it, it still would not take connections. We've shut down all Iplanet systems on the MMP and looked for the lock files, deleted those we found and restarted. Still not working. Any insight would be appreacitated.

Ray,
First off I think you're talking about an MTA not MMP. Two different beasts. You also do not mention what version of iMS you are using. Try the following:
cd msg-<instance>
./imsimta shutdown
./imsimta cleandb
./imsimta startup
NOTE -- I've no idea how large your environment is but if you change local.ugldapbinddn and local.ugldapbindcred to that of your Directory Manager and password you'll see dramatic performance increase on the LDAP side and thus dirsync will finish faster.

  • I am trying to update my iPhone 3gs. Every time the download is complete, the connection "times out". Can somebody help me please?

My connection times out everytime the installation for the software update is complete. I have tried multiple times ans still the same thing happens. Can somebosy help me please?

Yes it does matter whether you're doing an update or an upgrade. To find out which, under the Apple menu, select About this Mac. It will tell you which OS you currently have installed. Since it didn't come originally with OS 10.9, if About this Mac says it's 10.7.X or 10.8.X, you'll need to go to the Apple App Store program and download Mavericks (which is Mac OS X 10.9) and run the installer. If it does say you have 10.9, see if it says 10.9.1, since you might have Software Update set to install updates automatically. Otherwise, are you running Software Update and that's when the circle is spinning constantly?
BTW, are you sure you want to upgrade to Mavericks (if that's what you're doing)? Check on the Mavericks forum to see the problems users are having with it.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • Error occuring during manual login after idle connection time out

    Hi,
I am using a PowerBuilder (v11.1) application to access Crystal Reports (BOXI Enterprise v 3.1) using Opendocument. The app server is Apache Tomcat. We have implemented SSO using Vintela and at present we have set idle connection time out to 1 hr. The problem I am facing is listed below:
The SSO Authentication works fine for accessing these reports. But when we try to run crystal reports after not using it for more than 2 hours system prompts us for login. I understand that we are getting login prompt because connection was idle for more than 1 hour but when we manually enter our login credentials it gives us an error 'An error has occured. An error occured while trying to view the document'.
However after getting the above error if we again try to run the report, it works fine.
Please can anyone provide us with some insight as to why this behaviour could be occurring. Any help would be much appreciated.

->in application connection time out is set to zero
Are you sure? There are two different can timeouts you can experience: connection timeouts and command timeouts. The link posted by Praveen is about command timeouts. The default for the connection timeout is 15 seconds and the command timeout is 30 seconds.
It is very reasonable to set the command timeout to 0, which means that wait forever. Waiting forever is less reasonable for the connection timeout. But when I think of it, I am not sure that 0 means "forever" for the connection timeout. So if you
have set it to zero, maybe that is your problem.
Else, I would suspect a network problem.

  • HT4628 my powerbook g4 os x 10.5.8 leopard is showing-Connection time out while connecting to the wifi.however it showing all available wifi connections around but not connecting it..however ethernet is working

    Problem while connecting with Wi-Fi,
When i am connecting my powerbook g4 leopard  to any Wi-fi connection it showing -Connection time out, however Ethernet is working .I have updated all softwares but still same problem.

It's possible that either the internal AirPort Extreme card or the antenna is faulty or has failed.
One last thing to try before going with another Wi-Fi solutions is to the following:
Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)
    3. Run the Disk Utility to repair Disk Permissions.
Restart or log out then back in.
    4. Turn off the Mac OS X Firewall
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    Click the "Stop" button.
    5. Create a New User Account
    System Preferences > Accounts
Click "+" to add a new account
Log off, then log back on with the new user account.
    Try connecting with the AirPort.
If none of these help resolve the issue, you may want to consider getting a USB wireless adapter to replace both the internal card and antenna. One such vendor of these adapters is Other World Computing (OWC).

whenever I log in to mum's airport wifi either with my iphone or macbook pro (her aiport express uses wep security) after a few hours it won't work and says connection timed out. The wifi and airport also is invisible to mum's macbook which means she can't login. If I plug her computer or mine direct into her virgin modem - it does work...  I can't even find her express in airport utility to reset it  any ideas what is going wrong?

    Hello Bdev15,
I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too.  I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1725
If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network.  For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network.  Follow the steps in the section titled "iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch > Music" in the article below to download the songs:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you are still not able to download the songs, you can report an issue with these purchases using the steps in this article:
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBookstore purchase

  • Time-out problems with RV320 (after upgrade from RV042)

    config:
    dual wan
    WAN1: 4G router (DHCP) - approx 25Mbit/ 8Mbit
    WAN2: PPOE (DSL) - 1 Mbit/ 0.2 Mbit
worked with a RV042 before and upgraded to a RV320 now.
    all other things are unchanged.
    3 problems - 2 solved/ not critical - one still open:
    a) not critical:  DHCP Status does not include all devices (changing view - but all-time problem)
I would suspect a software bug.... DHCP itself works perfectly/ IPs are assigned (just not shown in status)
    b) solved (at least for now):  internet connection featured time-outs; after many tries, disabling the SPI in the firewall helped
btw: this only happend for the WAN1 - WAN2 worked  (or is that slow that the additonal wait time did not matter ;-)
    c) very annoying: exchange connection (from Outlook client to external exchange) still has time-outs (mostly the whole mail client hangs/ ends to be restarted).
As soon as I disable WAN1, it works!  But it´s not the LTE WAN itself - switching back to the RV042 does not show the same symptom.
I tried: include IP into local DNS (in general I work with google DNS servers - but changing that does not help either), opening all traffic for teh realevant IPs and disabling the firewall completely.  no positive results....
    thanks for any hints....

I agree with you on a, probably a bug of some sort.
b is an issue I've seen before, and even on similar bandwidth (25/5) on my rv016.  What was able to figure out is that the carrier (ISP) is sending about 4k/sec of ICMP packets to the router, which in turn makes the router think it's under attack so it drops the connection.  As you can tell, disabling the SPI helps.  For me, putting another router in front of my rv016 (on 2 of 3 wans) was my only 'permanent' solution.
c sounds like there's a protocol binding/static route in the rv042 that you need to add to the rv320.  I'd check that first.
