Snapshot Packages

I'm struggling with creating a package from a snapshot. I've created the snapshot file, installed what I wanted to, now when I come to try and build the .pkg file I get 'No package identifier specified.'
What does that mean.
Apple make it sound so simple in their help page!
Cheers,
Mark

Thanks a lot.
The package is working.
I now have some questions about the provides() and conflicts() fields of some packages.
Here are 2 packages I put on AUR recently: eo-snapshot, eo-cvs
I am thinking of removing eo-snapshot but it can be good to keep it for people who don't have access to CVS.
In this case eo-snapshot and eo-cvs will conflict. Once a new, working, stable version of eo will be out, I (or anybody) will probably make a package (called eo).
So I am thinking of using the fields provides=('eo') for both packages, and conflicts=('eo-snapshot') or ('eo-cvs')
Is it the right thing to do ?
An other question:
libge can use galib if it is compiled with galib support, so should I make a libge-galib version (with galib in makedepends) or put a comment somewhere (where) that asks the user to install galib before building libge to enable the galib support ?
An other one
eo-cvs(or eo-snapshot) and galib both provide a /usr/lib/libga.a file, so they conflict with one another. Is there any workaround to install both?

  • Cvs daily snapshot packages

    Hi there,
    I have some questions about cvs daily snapshot.
    The problem is for the package eo-snapshot in AUR
    Here is the PKGBUILD
    # Contributor: Sebastien Piccand <[email protected]>
    pkgname=eo-snapshot
    pkgver=20060411
    _ver=11Apr2006
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="EO is a templates-based, ANSI-C++ compliant evolutionary computation library"
    url="http://eodev.sourceforge.net/"
    license="LGPL"
    depends=()
    source=(http://www.lri.fr/~marc/EO/snapshot/eo_src.tgz)
    md5sums=('f4e001d00405292712e5a62599749c3d')
    build() {
    cd $startdir/src/eo${_ver}
    ./autogen.sh
    ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make || return 1
    make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
    I have to remove the _ver variable which is not required.
    I have to use the daily snapshot because:
    1. The stable version does not compile
    2. I don't have access to CVS
    The version(=folderOfSources=date) of the package is a bit weird and stored as:
    11Apr2006.
    I was asked to change the version so I moved it to 20060411 which seems to be the case for the usual snapshots.
    I used the variable _ver so that one has just have to modify the beginning of the PKGBUILD when a new snapshot comes. But it is definitely not really needed so I have to remove it, which means you have to edit the build() function at each snapshot.
    A workaround is to use
    cd $startdir/src/eo*
    instead of
    cd $startdir/src/eo11Apr2006
    in the build(function)
    In this case now the version of the snapshot is only discriminated by:
    1. the pkgver
    2. the md5sum
    But the package is updated daily and there should be a way to simplify the  update process. The daily snapshot does not contain the date so we can't have access to the previous snapshot.
    Can I, as for the CVS versions, use an empty md5sum() and just the date for the pkgver ?
    Or should the package be a mess to maintain ?
    Thanks

    Thanks a lot.

  • Weekly updated KDE 4 SVN Snapshots

    I have created a repo with KDE 4 SVN snapshot packages (at the moment only kdelibs4, kdepimlibs4 and kdebase4). I need the packages for my own (need to rebuild them every Monday or Tuesday, because that day is BIC and SIC (binary and source incompatible) for developing on KDE. But I think these packages could also be useful for others
    Add the following section to /etc/pacman.conf to get updates. Install it with pacman -Sy kde4.
    [kde4_svn]
    Server = http://archlinux.puzzle.ch/kde4/kde4_svn
    You can install these packages parallel to a KDE 3 desktop. Create a new user to test / use it! Change the session type to KDE 4 in KDM and login with your new user.
    BTW: KDE 4 is at the moment not usable for daily work! You are able to start a KDE 4 session, start some apps or surf in the internet. Use it at your own risk!

    Thanks for providing these, uwolfer. Do you have the PKGBUILDS for the svn snapshots as well? I couldn't find any PKGBUILDS for the svn snapshots, only the released development snapshots.
    defcon: 'nas' can be found in the community repository.
    I just uploaded all the KDE4 SVN PKGBUILD's to AUR yesterday Happy compiling

    HI Steffen
    Yes there are a lot of bugs resolved in the latest patch. The one I found most useful was the case where upgrade table option failed with error "RTC-5270 Invalid Upgrade Plan"

  • Always new mail, in mutt

    I am experiencing a strange problem with mutt and muttng: I tried all the versions (cvs, snapshots, packages in current and unstable, without any change).
    Some mail folders (I use traditional mboxes) are marked as including new mail also after I read all the mails in them and I always receive the notice "New mail in =$foofolder".
    Is anyone else experiencing  the same problem? Otherwise, do you know where the status of the mailboxes (with or without new mails inside) is codified bt mutt: I could try to reset manually the status.

    Take a look at:
    http://tikouka.net/mailapp/
    There are a few apps/plugins listed that will do what you're after (The Unread, MailUnreadStatusBar, etc.), but I have no idea if they work on Leopard.
    You might also find a few on Hawk Wings' plugin list:

  • Fireworks CS4 - Unable to Launch

    I am trying to virtualize Fireworks CS4 but keep running into the following error after running the compiled exe.
    The application was unable to load a required component: LogSession.dll. Please contact the publisher of this application for more information.
    Dreamweaver CS4 runs fine though. I have seen a couple of other threads relating to VMware Tools possibly causing an issue. I have tried the following without any success..
    1. Build machine with VMware Tools.
    2. Build machine without VMware Tools
    3. Stopping FlexNet service before capture
    4. Copying LogSession.dll into the 'System32' folder
    All snapshots\packages are been carried out on the local disk and not on a network share.
    I can't open a SR request with Novell, as we don't have a support contract with them.

    Some people have had success with issues such as these by adding entries to the "Child Process Exception List", but I haven't done that much myself and will need to poke around a bit to get you some more information.
    Is Fireworks CS4 something I can get on my own to work with?
    Will give that a go.
    In terms of obtaining Fireworks CS4, it is part of the Adobe CS4 Web Premium pack. You could probably get a trial version of it, but finding it on the Adobe site is unlikely as they are on CS6 now.

  • TABLE DEPENDENCIES

    Is there any v$view or sys views or oracle packages to know the dependencies of columns of a table for e.g what columns of a table are used by which views, procedures, triggers...
    Any 3rd party software

    Once you have switched to use Oracle Designer 6i (or even Oracle Repository), you will also have the Dependency Manager available. This tool can parse any piece of code (SQL, PL/SQL, Java, FMB, RDF, PLL), any structured definition of Tables/Views/Snapshots, Packages/Procedures/Functions and any DDL scripts (create table, create package etc.) for dependencies on other objects (either database objects or file objects such as librabries, icons etc.).
    The dependency manager is also a browser like tool that presents all dependencies in a user-friendly way.
    Currently the tool does not work directly against a database, so in order to benefit from it for existing database applications, you would have to design capture database definitions.

  • Launchy + Chromium Browser?

    Hi all,
    I'm excited to say that this is my first post in the forums.  I've used Ubuntu, switched to Gentoo, got tired of compiling everything from source so went back to Ubuntu, then got tired of not having any control of my system so I switched over to Arch...and I've never been happier.
    Anyways, I have a quick question about getting launchy configured with chromium.  Launchy has as Weby plugin that allows the user to launch websites from directly inside launchy but it doesn't seem to be working.  It looks like Launchy tries to launch the url in a few different browsers first (ie firefox, opera, etc.) and then stops without every trying chromium.  How do I set chromium to be the default browser for launchy?
    As an additional question, I'm using openbox as my WM (love it!) but I'm having issues setting my default applications.  Is there an easier way in Openbox to set default applications than by manually editing the ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list file?
    Thanks,
    Calvin

    Hi Calvin,
    i am using pekwm as windowmanager and thunar as filemanager. If i start chromium this way:
    jayjay@gonzo ~ % export DE=xfce && chromium-browser
    i can select in thunar with which progamm i want open a file after download in chromium.
    In thunar, right click on a PDF file -> Settings -> Open with: epdfview (select your favorite viewer for this type)
    A other important info: I am using the chromium-snapshot package from AUR.

    Okay...I've narrowed down my choices to two desktop environments:
    Openbox: I'm willing to do the configuration...it's just managing the files that will be a pain. I've listed some apps that I would use if I choose to go to Openbox. a/b indicates a waivering desicion between the programs in the slashes.

    You could always just disable the [alpha-ish] file manager module in e17 and use PCManFM or maybe Thunar(though it lacks tabbed browsing, much to my chagrin).
    Also, if may edit your apps list with my preferences/recommendations(for an openbox setup):

  • Failed to take snapshot of one or more contents in package

    We have two main SCCM site system servers, and all of a sudden (everything was working before, no change) the applications would not distribute to the DPs.
    distmgr.log:
    Snapshot processing content with ID 16781461 ...
    The source directory \\sccm02\Packages\ doesn't exist or the SMS service cannot access it, Win32 last error = 5
    Failed to take snapshot of one or more contents in package 00239
    I tried granting Everyone full control for both Share and NTFS, and granting the site server computer account full control, still the same issue.  I could access it manually w/ the UNC path and read/write/delete all of its contents.
    If I copy the folder to another server and point it there in the Application, it distributes the content to DPs just fine.

    I tried replacing ntfs permissions on all the folders, still getting Win32 last error = 5
    I was seeing some errors in event log
    The shadow copies of volume \\?...ac2-11e4-9f6d-005056a7533c} were aborted because of an IO failure on volume \\?...ac2-11e4-9f6d-005056a7533c}.
    The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.
    Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.

  • Snapshots refresh from package from another scheme

    *Also posted to Database:General!
    Hi all,
    i have a trouble while refreshing snapshots.
    First, i have a scheme where a package (for snapshots
    update) and snapshots themselves reside:
    package snp_update
    procedure update_snapshots
    is
    begin
    for s_name in ( SELECT owner, name
    FROM user_snapshots )
    loop
    dbms_snapshot.refresh (s_name.owner || '.' ||
    s_name.name, 'CA');
    end loop;
    end;
    end;
    Second, i have a scheme where reside only synonym to
    snp_update package (synonym name is syn_snp_update) and
    this scheme have granted 'execute' privilege on snp_update.
    But when i try to use it as
    begin
    syn_snp_update.update_snapshot;
    end;
    i have error: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges.
    But when i execute this pl/sql block from package
    owner's scheme - everything ok.
    Oracle: 8.0.5 on Sun Solaris 2.5
    Plz, help me.
    Maksym.

    How has your schema been granted the rights on SYN_SNP_UPDATE? A common cause of this problem is that the rights have been granted to a role. Oracle does not allow you to build procedures, etc using objects that you have been granted through a role. If this is the case you'll have to grant EXECUTE on SYN_SNP_UPDATE to your schema explicitly.
    Cheers, APCThrough
    grant execute on snp_update <synonym's owner schema>;
    BTW: Package's procedure is executing. Cursor (select ... from user_snapshots) retrieves first snapshot info in package's scheme and call to dbms_snapshot.refresh generates error.

  • Can i compile new procedures/packages on my snapshot standby?

    Hi
    can i compile new procedures/packages on my snapshot standby?
    I need to test the new release of the application, which include some changes to current packages
    thanks

    yes you can do it, just that it will be flashbed back to the restore point when it was standby first, do anything on it, but be aware that later you convert from snapshot standby to physical standby, more time it would take for redo to be applied and also it is mandatory to open the snapshot at least once in read-write mode before it can be converted into a physical standby database.

  • Snapshot for packages

    Hello All,
    Can anyone guide me on how to create snapshots for packages?
    Really appreciate it. Thanks.

    @blackout23
    Yup, signing out is a known problem. It is also not possible to add or switch to another user or Google account yet, neither using the login manager nor from the Settings menu, probably because a lot of the infrastructure of Chromium OS isn't actually there.
    Currently, I've wired things up to use the login manager only the first time you log in (it gives you the "out-of-box-experience" and asks for your Google account info), also because using it for all logins would cause it to ask for a password, which is inconvenient if you start the UI from a display manager (in which case you would have been asked for a password already).
    To fix your problem, I think the best thing to try is to delete $HOME/.config/chromiumos-ui/user directory and try to login again (my script will then try and use the login manager once more). Since everything on a Chromebook is supposed to be synced to the cloud, you should not lose any data, but make a backup of $HOME/.config/chromiumos-ui if you want to be really sure.
    Hope this helps, if not, don't hesitate to ask

  • Pacsnap: a rollback utility and package snapshot ("pacshot") manager

    Pacsnap is rollback utility, which allows to get your system back to a previous state before a --sync or a --sysupgrade made by pacman.
    It saves packages snapshots ("pacshots") in a database to allow a later rollback.
    These pacshots are the list of packages installed in the system at that moment.
    If a problematic system upgrade happens, we can rollback to one of the previous saved pacshot, downgrading, removing and installing all the packages needed to achieve that state, using one only command.
    I wrote this program because I had several issues doing system upgrades, when I started to use Arch Linux. I felt there was a lack of such tool, to make the rollbacks an easy task.
    I'm using it successfuly, but I would like more people to test it and give their feedback.
    You can read everything about the tool in this site: http://linux.carreira.com.pt/pacsnap/
    and install it for from AUR in http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34290

    Just stumbled onto this package- hasnt been updated in a year, so does it still work? Im kind of hesitant using something pertaining to pacman that isnt up to date. Downgrade is a nice script, but it kind of sucks when the package you want to downgrade has 5 dependencies and you need to -Rdd then -Sdd --asdep <depnames>.
    Also, does this maintain the reason for installation of an installed package? In other words, if a package is installed as a dependency, when you revert to an older pacshot, does it keep that as the install reason, or does it become explicitly installed?
    Really nice idea and prolly a nice program/script here- always looking for ways to make Arch more stable/recoverable from bugs
    *Edit* I know this is an old thread, but in Community Contributions I would figure necromancy rules arent as strict...

  • Backpac: A package state snapshot and restore tool for Arch Linux

    backpac:
    A package state snapshot and restore tool for Arch Linux with config file save/restore support.
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=52957
    https://github.com/altercation/backpac (see readme on the github repository for more information)
    Summary & Features
    It's a common method of setting up a single system: take some notes about what packages you've installed, what files you've modified.
    Backpac creates those notes for you and helps back up important configuration files. Specifically, backpac does the following:
    maintains a list of installed groups (based on 80% of group packages being installed)
    maintains a list of packages (including official and aur packages, listed separately)
    maintains a list of files (manually created)
    backs up key config files as detailed in the files list you create
    The package, group and files lists along with the snapshot config files allows system state to be easily committed to version control such as git.
    Backpac can also use these lists to install packages and files. Essentially, then, backpac takes a snapshot of your system and can recreate that state from the files and lists it archives.
    Use Cases
    Ongoing system state backup to github
    Quick install of new system from existing backpac config
    Conform current system to given state in backpac config
    Backpac is a very, very lightweight way of saving and restoring system state.
    It's not intended for rolling out and maintaining multiple similar systems, it's designed to assist individual users in the maintainance of their own Arch Linux box.
    Status
    Alpha, release for testing among those interested. Passing all tests right now but will continue to rework and refine. Bug reports needed.
    Why?
    There are a lot of 'big-iron' solutions to maintaining, backing up and restoring system state. Setting these up for a single system or a handful of personal systems has always seemed like overkill.
    There are also some existing pacman list making utilities around, but most of them seem to list either all packages or don't separate the official and aur packages the way I wanted. Some detect group install state, some don't. I wanted all these features in backpac.
    Finally, whatever tool I use, I'd like it to be simple (c.f. the Arch Way). Lists that are produced should be human readable, human maintainable and not different from what I'm using in non-automated form. Backpac fulfills these requirements.
    Regarding files, I wanted to be able to backup arbitrary system files to a git repository. Tools like etckeeper are interesting but non /etc files in that case aren't backed up (without some link trickery) and there isn't any automatic integration with pacman, so there is no current advantage to using a tool like that. I also like making an explicit list of files to snapshot.
    Sample Output
    This is the command line report. Additionally, backpac saves this information to the backpac groups, packages and files lists and the files snapshot directory.
    $ backpac -Qf
    backpac
    (-b) Backups ON; Files will be saved in place with backup suffix.
    -f Force mode ON; No prompts presented (CAUTION).

    firecat53 wrote:I think your plan for handling an AUR_HELPER is good. If AUR_HELPER is defined by the user, then either you might need a list of major AUR helpers and their command line switches so you can pick the correct switch for what needs to be done (most use some variation of -S for installing, but not all), or have the user define the correct switch(es) somehow for their chosen AUR helper.
    That's a good idea. I'll add that to my AUR refactoring todo.
    I also found directory tracking to be a weakness in other dotfile managers that I tried. I think you would definitely have to recursively list out the contents of a tracked directory and deal with each file individually. Wildcard support would be nice...I just haven't personally found a use case for it yet.
    I've been thinking that I could just add the directory and scan through it for any non-default attribute files. If those are found then they get automatically added to the files list. That's pretty close to what etckeeper does.
    Edit: I just compiled the dev version and removed my comments for already fixed things...sorry!
    The master branch should have those fixes as well, but I didn't update the version number in the package build. I'll have to do that.
    1. Still apparently didn't handle the escaped space for this item: (the file does exist on my system)
    Ok, good to know. This wildcard directory business will require some new code and refactoring so I'll also rework my filenames handling.
    2. Suggestion: you should make that awesome README into a man page!
    I was working on one (the pkgbuild has a commented out line for the man page) but I had to leave it for later. Definitely want a man page. Once this stabilizes and I'm sure there aren't any big structural changes, I'll convert it to man format.
    3. Suggestion: add the word 'dotfile' into your description somewhere on this page, the github page, and in the package description so people looking for dotfile managers will find it. You could also consider modularizing the script into a dotfile manager and the package manager, so people on other distros could take advantage of your dotfile management scheme.
    I actually have a different script for dotfile management that doesn't touch packages, but there is definitely overlap with this one. That script isn't released yet, though, and if people find this useful for dotfile management that's great. I'll add that in.
    4. Suggestion: since -Q is a read-only operation, why not just make it run with -f automatically to avoid the prompt?
    Originally, running backpac without any command line options produced the Query output. I was concerned that since it is a utility that can potentially overwrite system files, it is important to give users a clear statement prior to execution about what will be done. Since the Query output is essentially the same as the Update and System reports in format and content, I wanted to be explicit about the Query being a passive no-change operation. The current command line options aren't set in stone though. If you feel strongly about it being different, let me know.
    Long answer to a short question
    5. Another suggestion: any thought to providing some sort of 'scrub' function to remove private information from the stored files if desired? This would be cool for publishing public dotfiles to github. Perhaps a credentials file (I did this with python for my own configs). Probably detecting email addresses and passwords without a scrub file would be rather difficult because dotfiles come in so many flavors.
    Yes, absolutely. In fact, if you look at the lib/local file (pretty sure it's in both master and dev branches in this state) you'll see some references to a sanitize function. The idea there is that the user will list out bash associative arrays like this:
    SANITIZE_WPA_=(
    [FILE]='/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf'
    [CMD]='sed s/expungepattern/sanitizedoutput/g'
    Question: am I missing an obvious option to remove a file from the files.d directory if I delete it from the files list? Or do I have to delete it manually? It might be helpful to add a section to the README on how to update and delete dotfiles from being tracked, and also a more detailed description of what the -b option does (and what is actually created when it's not used).
    You are only missing the function I didn't finish. There should be either dummy code or a TODO in the backpac main script referencing garbage collection, which isn't difficult but I just haven't finished it. The idea being another loop of "hey I found these old files in your files.d, mind if I delete them?" It's on my list and I'll try to get it in asap.
    And finally, just out of curiosity, why did you choose to actually copy the files instead of symlink like so many other dotfile managers do?
    git not following symlinks, hardlinks also out for permissions issues (git wouldn't be able to read the files, change them, etc.)
    I definitely would prefer to not make an entire copy of the file, but I haven't come up with a better option. Shout with ideas, though. Also, if there is a way around the link issues I noted above, let me know. I don't see one but that doesn't mean it's not there.
    edit: I think a Seattle area Arch meetup would be cool! Perhaps coffee someplace? Bellevue? U-district? Anyone else? BYOPOL (bring your own pimped out laptop)
    A general meetup sounds good. I was also thinking it would be fun to do a mini archcon with some demos.
