So I've found the laptop I want and it's at Best Buy...

Actually, the laptop that I have researched extensively is at several websites and stores. I do, however, like the components of Best Buy's configuation and price the best ,hence my registration here. First and foremost, the laptop that should be on everyone's wish list (lol) is the HP TX2Z Tablet that a Best Buy within 30 miles of me has instock (at least it says this online)! So, I see all these like 10% off coupons for computer accessories, TV's, applicances, etc. What about the one's for computers and whatnot? I am itching to feel like I'm getting a good deal on this, and even though I may already, I think a coupon would be great. My mom just bought the Toshiba Mini at Best Buy last week and signed up for that Reward Points crap. I don't really know what that is, but from my quick perusing through these forums, apparently you get coupons and whatnot. I'm not RUSHED to make this purchase and have been feverishly looking for a comparable used model of this laptop (hey, a quick reformat makes it new to me!), but if I could find a coupon or something I would definitely go buy one immediately. So do they just not make them for laptops? I found one online that says "$100 off any notebook purchase" and has some exclusions (which do NOT apply to me, so weeee) but it's some weird print screen although the coupon looks legit. It expires 11/24/2009 but it's the ONLY one I found and usually you would see these plastered all over the place so I don't want to try it and then look like some weirdo if it didn't work, lol. I printed it out anyway and still have a copy saved, but still. I don't know. Any help?
-rye

Always nice to see someone do their research, rye!
First off, sadly BestBuy does not have coupons that apply to laptops and desktops but the RewardZone will help a lot! It is basically a 2% cash back! These reward certificates can be applied to any purchase though!
Please believe me when I say, you will very rarely find a better deal on a equivalent configuration. Though what I said is irrelevant to you since the HP one does have different configuration but most people do not use over 80 GB and an 8-cell is not necessary unless you will be traveling frequently. I do want to warn you about some charges that HP will tend to throw on, such as shipping and services.
If you ever do have a problem, rather than walking right into BestBuy and having GeekSquad fix your problems, you will need to pay to ship the computer back and most of the time the manufacture even charges you for the parts which get real expensive. If you do have GeekSquad Black Tie Protection, GeekSquad will take care of everything and anything and every plan has one free battery replacement to boot. Typical 6 cell can range from $100 to $170 depending on the manufacture. Here is the 6-cell for the laptop you want. My HP has had the power chord tear 4 times and each new one cost me about $54. From that day forward, I always buy GeekSquad Black Tie Protection, it includes AC chord replacements!
Buying from BestBuy with a GeekSquad plan is the safest and best investment for your purchase. I know it seems like a bit more upfront, but factor the price out over the time of coverage, you pay about $6.70 /month for full insurance. I hate paying for my car insurance, but when I get in an accident, boy am I happy I have it. HP does not provide coverage and services even close to GeekSquad.
I hope I helped you understand discounts for BestBuy and by far, I do not shop at BestBuy exclusively, it's just that I have really grown to dislike HP after 2 desktops and a laptop.
Warm Regards,
Jason

  • Ive had my iPod classic for some time now, and up to now have been using my laptop to sync songs from iTunes.  Unfortunatley, the laptop has died and I'm thinking of buying a iPad.....but how do i now get any songs downloaded from iTunes to my iPod?

I've had my iPod classic for some time now, and up to now have been connecting it to my laptop to sync any downloaded tunes from iTunes.  Unfortunately, the laptop has died and I'm thinking of buying a iPad.....but how do I now get any songs downloaded from iTunes to my iPod?

If an iPod is set to update automatically it will be associated with a particular library. If you connect that iPod to a different computer or a different library on the same computer you get the the message you are referring to. "The iPod "iPod Name"is linked to another another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlists on this iPod with those from this library". To use an iPod on multiple computers you change the update method to "manually manage songs and playlists". You can also use multiple iPods on a single computer so you will be able to connect both of your iPods to your existing iTunes. Connect the new iPod and follow the on screen instructions, iTunes will open and update your iPod.
    For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • I downloaded IOS6 and all my apps, including the App Store icon, disappeared. If I go to the Passport icon, there is an App Store button, but I have to search through all the apps to find the one I want  and then click on "Open" to use it.  Help!

I downloaded IOS6 and all of my app icons, including the App Store icon disappeared. Now to use an icon, I have to go to Passport and click on the App Store button at the bottom and search through all of the apps to find the one I want and then click on Open. There doesn't seem to be a way to delete the app and start over.

    Hey PlayerPS,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the application you are looking for is indeed still on your iPhone. You can confirm this by searching in the Spotlight Search for this application. It may have accidentally been moved to a folder, or an additional Home screen:

I have an 8500a how, once I select the apps I want and add to the printer.  How do i get them to work? And is it always this slow....

    Hey jmknights!
While I can't speak to how quickly the apps will work, I may be able to help you with how they work. Once you have the apps added to the printer you would select the app you want to print from on the printer's front panel. Once inside the app, select what you want to print and if all goes as it should, the printer should begin printing the requested information within a few seconds.
    Hope this helps!

  • The Difference Between Going Through Sprint Directly or Best Buy

I was wondering if anyone has any feedback about buying cellphones from Best Buy as apposed to going through the provider. I just got done with a Sprint chat where the person kept warning me that "Independent Distributors are not Sprint. They can add fees." She would not directly comment on Best buy when I asked her.
The reason I ask is because the HTC Hero is so much cheaper through best buy, $79, as apposed to $149, through Sprint.  I am a current Sprint customer and eligible for the full 2 year discount. I don't want to change my pricing plan or anything. I just want to upgrade my phone and renew my contract.
Will I be able to take the phone into Sprint to be serviced, like I have in the past? I like the experiences I have had using my Sprint insurance.
Thanks for any feed back in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

While authorized retailers can add fees, BB does not. The only thing you will be charged is the $18 upgrade fee, which is charged by Sprint. They just don't want you to buy from BB, because they know how much cheaper it is.
Now, you mentioned that you want to purchase the Hero. Keep in mind that this phone does require an Everything Data or Everything Data Share plan, so if you are not currently on one of these plans, this phone will require you to switch.
Yes, you will be able to go into a Sprint Repair Center for servicing, and continue your Sprint insurance coverage.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but BB does offer their GSBTP plan for cellphones. On the Hero, it would be $10/mo., which can be cancelled at any time. It does not have a maximum number of claims per year, or a deductible, whereas Sprint has a max two claims per year and a $100 deductible per claim. The GSBTP plan covers mfg. defects, dust, heat, humidity, power surge, normal wear and tear, and drops and spills not due to negligence or abuse. Average turnaround time is 2-4 weeks, and BB does offer a basic loaner phone for a $150 deposit.

  • Every time the laptop boots, Finder and Open Office opens. How do I stop this?

I downloaded Open Office on my Macbook Pro. Every time the laptop boots up, Open Office and Finder both load and I have to close them. D disk drive icon for Open Office remains on the deshtop. I have an icon for Open Office in Launchpad and I had one on the dock as well, bit I removed it. Is there a boot folder somewhere? If so.. Where do I find it? I am running Mountain Lion.

The Finder will always open when you boot... it's what supplies the basic Desktop, folders, etc. The 'face' of OS X. As to why OpenOffice is launching on startup, check System Preferences>Users & Groups and check you Log-in items under your user name. If you don't see OpenOffice there, make sure that you do not have "Reopen windows when logging back in" selected when you shutdown or restart.
    Good luck,

  • By using Inspector, i found the way to create and insert a scrolldown list ; however the list has to be created from  inserting each line at a time; what i am looking for is a way of creating a scrolldown  large(30 to 100 lines) list.

By using inspector, i found a way to create and insert a scrolldown list (*) in a cell ; however it can only be done one line at a time .what i am looking for is to create a bigger scrolldown list ( from 30 to 100 lines ) and in excel we can do it by copy and paste from an other doc...there must be a way with Numbers !!! any ideas ?
(*)...go to inspector/4th icon to he left/format/local menu/and then input the list one by one...and it creates a scrolldown list where you cursor was located in numbers.
    please help....

If you need to use this kind of objects, my guess is that it would be better to use an other application like libreOffice.
At an user request, I wrote an AppleScript grabbing the list from a table embedded in the Numbers document.
    Here is an enhanced version.
    --{code}
    --[SCRIPT fake-scrolldown-list]
    --=====
    L’aide du Finder explique:
    --=====
Save the script as a Script: fake-scrolldown-list.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
Select a cell in a table of a Numbers document.
Go to the Scripts Menu, choose Numbers, then choose “fake-scrolldown-list”
The script extract the list of allowed items from the table “the_list” which must sit in the same sheet that the table embedding the selected cell.
It urge to choose an item then insert it in the selected cell.
CAUTION : I use different names for the required table according to the language in use on user request.
I dislike this feature because a document built by a French user sent to an English one will fail.
On the French system the script ask for the table "la_liste" but it ask for the table "the_list" on an English system.
    --=====
    The Finder’s Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the “Show Script Menu in menu bar” checkbox.
    Under 10.6.x,
go to the General panel of AppleScript Editor’s Preferences dialog box
and check the “Show Script menu in menu bar” option.

  • Tonight was by far the worst experience I've ever had at Best Buy...Debating on ever returning

Okay so here goes...bit of a story but bear with me while I go through the details (there are quite a few).
First off, 3 days ago I finally decided I had enough of my Nokia Lumia 822, cracked screen mind you, and decided to add a new line of service to my existing verizon account and just pay the extra 40 bucks until my real line is up (5 months left). I purchased an S5 and was very happy with my purchase. Had a customer come into my store today, am a manager at Gamestop, and she told me about this awesome deal where if you buy an open box iphone you get a free 200 gift card! Of course I wasn't told this when I bought my S5 but I was within the 14 day period so I called about 15 stores, found two black 5s' in stock and booked it over there as I got off work. Buying a second for my brother for his 21st birthday, which I got home just in time to spend an hour with him for. To start, the relatively easy return process took about 15x longer than it should have... I got there at around 630-7 and it took until about 9 oclock to finally return the phone and get my money and everything back. This isn't including purchasing the new phones. Because it was such a good deal, I decided to add two lines. So essentially, delete the line I just created and add two. Simple right? I think not. Not only did the manager leave me with some untrained very impatient sales rep...she also left him and I unattended for about 45 minutes at a time, only to come in and fix his problems within five minutes. If it was so simple for her, why didn't she just do the whole thing? That bugged me but I didn't say anything because I figured it would get resolved. The phones ended up taking a bit longer to do activate on my account, and then for some odd reason not explained to me...only one of the 200$ gift cards printed. They have to request another one...AND THEN to top my night off, I go to see my new phone and the phone is icloud locked, meaning whoever did the return didn't even check to see if it was reset. I have this old owners contacts, email and everything on my phone and NO WAY of activating it because I don't have the apple id passwords. So let's go over this...Extremely long wait time for a return that could've easily been done by a manager, extremely long activation time and the promos I specifcally came in for (and called TWICE ahead of time to confirm) did not completely work (only recieved 200 out of the 400 in gc's) and I am now home only to have one working iphone that wasn't even for me and another bricked iphone that I can't even activate. So I'm left with no phone with my number on it, no way of contacting anyone either. This store is an hour away from me but they were the only store with stock and I wanted the deal...To be honest, I'm wishing I never even did the deal because it seems as though murphys law was in effect tonight. They've already told me they don't have any more open box phone but I have to drive back tomorrow (another two hours there and back and i drive a jag that gets 8 miles a gallon) just to finish a transaction that I WONT even be rewarded for. Absolutely ridiculous. I've spent over 10k in the past year at best buy and I swear every time I have an issue, I meet the same stubborn employees and am offered one, no compensation for literally time and trouble and two, absolutely no customer service leaving me completely unsatisfied with all my purchases. This is an extreme case and I know a variety of factors go into it. It's very unfortunate.
To be fair, the young (definetely not properly trained) gentleman that helped me was extremely respectful and I think he was just as frustrated as me...but it wasn't towards me at all. The time he took with me was definetely not overlooked. That might be the only positive out of this...However the negatives just overwhelm the situation. I hope I can talk to someone who might be able to figure out a solution to this nightmare! Thank you for reading.
    Chris {removed per forum guidelines}

    Hello Chris,
Welcome to the forum.  I sincerely apologize for the delay in replying to your post. I was sadly disappointed to read about your experience when exchanging your phone for the two iPhones. I can understand wanting to make the long trip to take advantage of the open box iPhone deal, and I truly regret we have let you down
Have you had the opportunity to visit the store again? If so, were they able to rectify the $200 gift card problem, and unlock your phone? I completely agree with you, while it's great that the sales associate was helpful, the manager should have overseen the transaction to make things move along faster. I assure you I will be documenting your comments for further employee training opportunities.
Once again, I am very sorry for any inconvenience you have encountered. I hope they were able to turn this experience around into a much better one, otherwise please let me know if I can further assist.
    Sincerely,

  • The new iPad Air 2 I bought at Best Buy a week ago will not register with Apple.  How do I register this so that I am eligible for support and 3 month warranty?

I bought a new iPad Air 2 from Best Buy a week ago and it's serial number is not registered with Apple.  According to support I am not eligible for support or the 3 month warranty.  How do I register this thing?

Return it to Best Buy and either get one that can be registered or get a full refund and shop somewhere else.
Brand new iPads have a 12-month warranty.
