Software enable for Kollmorgen AKD using LabVIEW

Hey all, I'm relatively new to motion control, and feel like I must be missing something...
I have a PXI chassis with a 7350 card connected to a Kollmorgen AKD as described in the Getting Started guide. I can get the system to move through MAX, and I can enable the hardware through the LabVIEW Enable Axes.flx vi from the NI 73xx palette. But, I haven't found any way to do a software enable from LabVIEW... it only works through the Kollmorgen software.
Is there a way to do the software enable from LabVIEW? I haven't found anything in my searches so far.

The only way to software enable the drive from LabVIEW is via a digital bus (EtherCAT, Modbus, etc). In general, you only want to use either the hardware enable OR the software enable, not both. In your situation, you should be using the hardware enable and you should use Kollmorgen WorkBench to set the drive to be software enabled at startup (on the Enable/Disable menu).

The best way to do this is to use the counter. The counter counts
signals without having to interrupt the system or use the USB bus.
When you request the number of ticks that the counter has seen, a
request is thrown from the CPU to the USB line to the 6008, which then
asks the counter "How many ticks have you seen?" That number is
returned over the USB bus, goes to the CPU, and then displays on your
screen. Since the DIO lines on the 6008 are software timed, there is
no way to guarantee that the data returning to the CPU is
deterministic. The conceptual difference between software-controlled
DIO (which nondeterministically returns an entire data stream) and a
software-tick-request-controlled counter (which returns a single number
with the number of ticks) prevents us from using the DIO lines on the
6008. The cheapest way to count more edges is to purchase more 6008s.
Another possibility would be to purchase a PCI counter board such as
the PCI-6602, which has 8 counters. The most counters we offer in the
USB form factor is 2 per device.

Which operating system is best for computer control using LabVIEW

I am using LabVIEW 7.1 and want to write a program to control a system of pumps, heaters, and compressors. I am wondering if using Windows XP is a bad thing, given how many background processes computers tend to use these days. I don't want my computer to slow down for intermittant checking for updates, or any other sort of routine maintenance computers are set up to do. I have heard mixed things about windows reliability and computer control, most of which is people saying windows could crash and completely ruin my tests. Does anyone have any advice on the best operating system to use for continuous computer control of my system?

If you plan on using a desktop PC for control type applications, then your best option in terms of performance will be with a Real-Time operating system. Windows is not deterministic for many reasons. Determinism involves the ability to respond to an event within a specified amount of time with an acceptable amount of error (jitter). First of all, Windows is not deterministic because it has to service mouse and keyboard events, as well as anti-virus software, automatic updates, etc.
You can, however, convert an existing desktop PC to a Real-Time target with a Real-Time OS and use it for your control type application with the deterministic behavior of PXI, Compact FieldPoint, and other Real-Time targets. Check out this link for more information.
On a side note to a previous reply, using the LabVIEW Real-Time module on Windows XP won't make your application deterministic. Your best bet, as others have noted, is to use the LabVIEW RT Module on an RT OS with good RT programming practices (avoiding memory allocations, etc.).

Good NI Test Stand Examples For a Beginner (Using LabVIEW)

Hi everyone, I am new to using NI Test Stand. I have gone through the "Getting Started with NI Test Stand" and "Using LabVIEW with Test Stand" documents.
I know in the NI Test Stand Example folder there are many examples. Are there any examples that cater to new users to Test Stand?
Where can I find good examples (demos) for developing test sequences, local variables, parameters, etc...in Test Stand?

If you have the SSP you could access online training an do the exercises on the training.
but the examples is a good way to getting started. just play around with all the options you have.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac 4 use with Touch?

Hello,
I have a 2nd Gen Touch with the latest updated software. I use Airport to connect to the internet on my new iMac 24". Will the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler software now offered in the Apple store($1.99) for Mac improve communications between the Touch and my iMac?

Nope. Your touch is still limited to b/g mode wireless. In fact, if you have an all n network, your touch won't even know that it exists.
Most of your Mac to iPod communication is via the USB cable unless you are using Remote or other applications that can move files on and off.
BTW, that software is to enable early intel Macs to use N wireless. If your Mac is relatively new, you won't need it.

How can I see up AppStore/Software Updates for multiple computers using the same account?

I have several computers in my household which all use the same App Store account for purchases & software updates. How can I view all those installs while not being in front of all computers?
Recently an iMac crashed from a software update. I want to see what installed & crashed it.

Is there an ILX LDC-3916 Laser Diode driver for windows NT using Labview 5.0?

Or will it be necessary to upgrade to the 6 version? I have searched for a while now but this is the only verion that I could find. Also is there any where to learn how to communicate using a GPIB board?

An instrument driver is a collection of functions that implement the commands necessary to perform the instrument�s operations. In short, someone read the instrument user manual and implemented some of the functionality in a program for the end user. Instrument drivers are not necessary to use your instrument. They are merely time savers to help you develop your project so you do not need to study the manual before writing a program.
There are example VI's in LV on Instrument Connectivity. If you go to the Help menu >> Examples.. >> I/O, you will see a couple and Examples.. >> Fundamentals for File and String manipulation. I would suggest tweaking them to suit your application. Also the specific command that your instrument responds to can be found from it's manual.

Their alternative option is for you to bring it into the store
You could google and look for some download helpers (presuming they still exist, haven't used them in years) but they're freeware or adware that caches your download to help you recover from timeouts.
the timeout is possibly caused by your ISP, if they regularly cycle routers or the such it 'burps' your connection causeing it to cut out.
You might try taking your laptop to your local library which may have wifi. Or, as the others have suggested, a friend's house with cable internet.

Setting Planning to be enabled for Offline Smartview use

I'm reading in the documentation that in order to do Offline budgeting in smartview, you must enable offline in planning. However I don't see an option to enable offline in Planning. The documentation also does not show where to enable it too. Any knowledge of where it might be in the application? Thanks.<BR><BR>II

In the Planning web client, if you go to Administration-> Users, and then click on the edit tab in the Users section, There is an option after User Type as "Enable use of the Ofline Mode as drop down list to selct YES or NO "I hope this answer your question.

Problem in a particular scan of our software designed using labview

We are using a software called CROP for our experiments . The software is designed and bulit using Labview . The software seems to be running fine but there is a problem in one of the scans that we use in the software . The particular scan called the 'Threshold Scan' is coded in such a way that it increments by itself to a certain value of voltage after the scan has been conducted at the current voltage for a certain period of time . For example the current value is 30 and increment is 30 and the final value is 300 for a time period of 1 minute . The scan automatically increments from 30 to 60,60 to 90 and so on after each minute till the final value of 300. The problem is this scan seems to be running perfectly fine in two of our windows 7 lab systems but elsewhere in all other systems running windows 7 (or) 8 it blanks out after the first value of voltage and stops abruptly (i.e) in this case it stops at 30 and does not increment and perform the scan for each voltage till 300. The code seems to be perfect and it has been hard to figure out why the scan runs perfectly in two of our lab systems and does not do so in any other system.

Looking over your code I don't see anything glaringly obvious, but not having all of the sub-vi's makes it hard to thoroughly explore. That being said, I do have some troubleshooting steps we could start with.
Have you tried probing the starting, ending and increment voltages coming out of the "threshold wizard" sub-vi while the code is running on the troublesome machines? Also, canyouprobethe "# ofpoints" wire?
The measured values will help us determine whether the problem is inside or outside of the for loop.

Is it possible to create application.exe for linux platform...are there any settings that could be changed to make it work on linux platform ? or it will directly work when installer is installed in linux platform...

You must setup a machine with Linux and install LabVIEW for Linux on this machine.
If you haven't used any Windows technics you can copy the VIs from the Windows machine to the Linux machine, open LabVIEW on the Linux machine and create the application.
There is no setting on any platform of LabVIEW to generate applications and/or installers for other platforms.

To Whom It May Concern:
It is good to see the recent posts about LabVIEW jobs, and we have a Co-
Op position available using LabVIEW. I recently posted a similar message
to the info-LabVIEW mailing list, and someone there recommended I also
post to comp.lang.labview.
Along those lines, we have a Co-Op position available that involves a
substantial amount of LabVIEW programming. We are looking for a EE or
computer engineering student (we aren't locked into those majors, but
they are typical of previous students), to begin work in the term
starting in January 2001.
About the Co-Op position:
This is a cooperative education position, where students typically
alternate terms of school with terms of work experience, usually for
three terms of each. Sometimes students co-op for less than three terms,
but we prefer to have someone who can commit to three terms. Thus they
get a four year degree in five years, including one year (total) of work
experience.
In my previous post to the info-LabVIEW list I received a great deal of
interest from international students, but our co-op program is such that
we are only considering students who already reside in the USA. Also, if
non-resident, you must be approved for work for a year or less in the
USA.
About the work:
Mostly LabVIEW programming, 50%-75% of the time, on custom software used
to control our in-house measurement systems. This is on Macs and PC's,
and involves GPIB and DAQ programming. The remaining time will be spent
on number crunching/data analysis.
About the company:
Corning Cable Systems (formerly Siecor) is a subsidiary of Corning, Inc.,
and is a major manufacturer of fiber optical cable. The Co-Op position is
in the Research, Development, and Engineering division, located in
Hickory, NC. Hickory is in central NC, about one hour north of Charlotte

Software Updates for Apple TV (tried everything in community)

Software updates for Apple TV using HDMI. My MacBook Pro 2013 does not recognize the Apple TV as a device. I've tried plugging in HDMI first then AC; AC then HDMI; re-start, etc. The Apple TV doesn't update through TV and ethernet cable. Apple TV is 2012 but I can't see it anywhere in order to see for sure.

If you have an AppleTV 2 it does not need a power lead at all when connected over USB.
Ceryain USB to microUSB leads are power only not data, so it could bethe lead.
Also if having issues remove all non-essential USB peripherals/hubs.
