Software product to connect to oracle dabase
I am currently using a warehouse software based on oracle database. I have developped some ODBC links between Excel / Access and Oracle for those Pcs who are using that software. However, I would like all workstations to have access to the oracle database without installing that warehouse software. I' m sure that there is a tool within the Oracle suite (version 8.0.x) which can be used as 'runtime' product. Can someone help me with giving me the name of that product and where I can find it ?
You can do a client-only install of Oracle onto a PC, which will allow you to use the Oracle ODBC driver. You can even create a response file for the Oracle Universal Installer which will select and install only those portions of the Oracle client that you need. Search for 'response files' on tahiti.oracle.com (Oracle's documentation site) to get instructions on this.
There are third-parties that have producted "thin" ODBC drivers for Oracle which will connect without any Oracle client software (much like a type-4 JDBC driver), but these aren't free. DataDirect has one, and I believe OpenLink does as well.

How to connect to oracle ebs from an external software
Hi!
I want to develop an integration for oracle EBS. Therefor I'm looking for ways how to connect to the EBS and for a repository of functions which can be called from an external program. I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to ask but I could not find anything yet so I'm trying here.
Are there any standard connectors for the EBS provided by Oracle?
Thanks,
KonradOracle Applications Architecture is a framework for multi-tiered, distributed computing that supports Oracle Applications products. In this model, various servers are distributed among multiple levels/tiers as follows:
- The Desktop Tier --> Web browser with Jinitiator or Sun JRE
- The Application Tier --> Web, Forms, Reports, Admin, and Concurrent servers
- The Database Tier --> Oracle Enterprise Edition Database
The Application tier is the layer which is responsible for:
- Hosting the various servers that process the business logic
- Managing communication between the desktop tier and the database tier
So, in order to connect to the database, you can either access the application tier, or connect directly to the database. I do not think it is possible to communicate with the application services from some other application. Therefore, you would need to connect to the database directly which can be achieved as explained in my previous reply. There is no such API which can be used to open/close a database connection. Oracle E-Business Suite is just a database with number of schemas and objects which are tightly integrated.
More details about Oracle E-Business Architecture can be found in:

How can I connect to Oracle and SQL server at the same time?
I have been trying to find a way to connect to Oracle Database through the developer 2000 and SQL server at the same time. I need to return some data from Oracle Database and some from the Sql Server Database. And update both through SQL. I find there is such a thing as the Oracle Transparent Gateway for SQL server. I can't find it on any of my CD's or through OTN downloadable files. If anyone can point me where to get this. Or tell of another way this can be accomplished I would appreciate it. TIA.

As far as I know you have 3 options depending on your specifications. I don't think option #3 will work if you need to actually join a
SQL Server table to an Oracle table.
1. Oracle Transparent Gateway. I haven't used the Oracle Transparent Gateway but my understanding is that Oracle gateways are
separate purchased products from Oracle. I've never seen any free/development versions of it anywhere. You'll need to contact
your Oracle sales rep about it.
2. Heterogeneous Connectivity. There's something called Heterogeneous Connectivity that could work for you - depends on what
version of Oracle you're on and what OS. You basically set up an ODBC data source on the Oracle server and modify the listener.ora
and tnsnames.ora files. You can then create a database link to SQL Server just like you would to any other Oracle database. You can
check your Oracle documentation for how this works. There's also some very good documents on Metalink that tell you how to do this
as well as a Heterogeneous Connectivity forum on this site.
3. Use the exec_sql package available in Developer 2000. This allows you to open and execute cursors to remote databases within
Developer. We have an account validation process that uses this - when a person enters an account number in a form while logged
into Oracle it validates the account is valid in our main accounting DB2 database. We also pull HR information from DB2 into Oracle
this way. If you're using Forms 6i exec_sql is a built-in command, in Forms 5.0 and 5.5 you have to add it as an attached library to
the form. I think you also need the OCA options installed from the Developer software to have access to the library in Forms 5.0 and
5.5. The library will be in the $ORACLE_HOME\oca20\plsqllib directory for these versions. The Developer documentation should have
additional information.

Need help connecting to Oracle 7
Hi!
My name is Patrick and I have a question regarding Oracle 7. First I need to clarify that I usually don't work with Oracle products at all and there I'm a total newbie in this area; please be gentle! :)
I work for a company that installs/builds/integrate healthcare systems, and we have now encountered a problem that involves Oracle 7. We need to create a connection between a workstation with a Oracle database (version 7) provided by another company and a product of ours using ODBC. We have been in contact with the other company that informed us that we need to install the Oracle 7 ODBC driver that is found on a Oracle Client CD. The problem is that this CD is gone and the customer wasn’t even aware of it. As I understand it there is no way of just downloading and installing the driver by itself, but you need the Oracle installer - is this correct?
Anyway, what would the quickest solution for this problem? Is it even possible to buy Oracle 7 nowadays? Would a later version than 7 work?
Thank you for your help!
Regards,
PatrickHi,
In theory it is possible with a 9.0.1 client (but not with 9.2). See note 207303.1 in Metalink.
https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/showdoc?db=NOT&id=207303.1
If this is true, you can download ODBC 9.0 from here
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/windows/odbc/index.html
A 9.0.1 is more difficult to find, but it might be included as part of some other product, eg an old version Discoverer Desktop (such as 4.1 or 9.0.4)
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/discoverer/index.html
or an old version of Designer...
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/designer/index.html
Another option is a third-party ODBC stack with their own wire-level implementation of Oracle SQL*Net.
Good luck.
Cheers,

Hi All,
I have been trying to connect to Oracle using a self signed certificate from a simple Java class. I am getting the below error.
main, handling exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake
main, SEND TLSv1 ALERT: fatal, description = handshake_failure
I have searched many forums but couldnt find the information of my help.
Below are the steps I have followed as per the documentation in wp-oracle-jdbc-thin-ssl-130128.pdf.
First Step: Created a self signed certificate and a truststore with the below commands using JDK 1.6.0_16
Create a Keystore:
keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA -alias MyKey -keystore keystore.jks -validity 360
Extracting the public key:
keytool -export -rfc -alias MyKey -keystore keystore.jks -file public.cert
Creating the Truststore:
keytool -import -alias MyKey -file public.cert -storetype JKS -keystore keystore.truststore
Second Step: Added the following in listener.ora and sqlnet.ora
listerner.ora :
# listener.ora Network Configuration File: D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1)
(PROGRAM = extproc)
(ENVS = "EXTPROC_DLLS=ONLY:D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin\oraclr11.dll")
SSL_CLIENT_AUTHENTICATION = FALSE
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =

ADR_BASE_LISTENER = D:\oracle
WALLET_LOCATION =
(SOURCE =
(METHOD = FILE)
(METHOD_DATA =

# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION =
(SOURCE =
(METHOD = FILE)
(METHOD_DATA =
(DIRECTORY = E:\misc\Secure-jdbc\OracleCertificates)
# This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
# install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
# authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (BEQ, TCPS, NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
SSL_CLIENT_AUTHENTICATION = FALSE

(SOURCE =
(METHOD = FILE)
(METHOD_DATA =
(DIRECTORY = E:\misc\Secure-jdbc\OracleCertificates)
ADR_BASE = D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\log
Third Step: Created an empty auto logon wallet and added the above created certificate as a Trusted Certificate. (Imported the .cert file into the Trusted Certificates section in Wallet Manager)
Fourth Step: Used the below Java code to connect to the database using the truststore
public static void main(String[] args) { try { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcps)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=2484))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ORCL11)))"; Properties props = new Properties(); props.setProperty("user", "system"); props.setProperty("password", "oracle"); props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore","E:\\misc\\Secure-jdbc\\Keys and Certificates\\keystore.truststore"); props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS"); props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword","sudhir123#"); Connection conn=DriverManager.getConnection(url,props); System.out.println("conn:"+conn); conn.close(); } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } }
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Edited by: user10569290 on 20-Feb-2013 22:02Hi EJP,
Please find the below code changes I have done to set the properties as part of System properties instead of Connection properties. I am still getting the same error.
Code:
Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcps)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=2484))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=ORCL11)))";
Properties systemProps = System.getProperties();
systemProps.put("javax.net.ssl.trustStore","E:\\misc\\Secure-jdbc\\Keys and Certificates\\keystore.truststore");
systemProps.put("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS");
systemProps.put("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword","sudhir123#");
System.setProperties(systemProps);
Properties props = new Properties();
props.setProperty("user", "system");
props.setProperty("password", "oracle");
/*props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore","E:\\misc\\Secure-jdbc\\Keys and Certificates\\keystore.truststore");
props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS");
props.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword","sudhir123#");
Connection conn=DriverManager.getConnection(url,props);
System.out.println("conn:"+conn);
conn.close();Please find the below output with the SSL debug enabled.

Slow first connection using Oracle 10g xe and Visual Studio 2008
{noformat}
Good day,
I'm slightly unaccustomed to using forums, so bear with me.
My initial connection to the Oracle database takes approximately 30 seconds. It seems to be waiting for a connection before timing out and trying another connection which works, as all subsequent connections work immediately. I'm unsure how other people's responses in forums can help me due to the plethora of configurations, so here's mine. My comprehension of the oracle world is still growing, you'll have to explain the terms you're using for me, Hoping you can help.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, set to use 32 bit debug mode, on a Windows 7 Pro platform. Also using Oracle 10g Xe, and have installed the 32 bit version of ODAC 11.2 (11.2.0.1) to aid making a connection from Visual Studio to Oracle.
I have a database set up and a user with system admin rights. This is all local for a programming project and will never see the light of day outside of my personal machine.
I am using code to connect, not the GUI. I wish to code this project completely without the aid of the GUI. so my connection string within Visual Studio C# is (pw/id hidden)...
string xe = "Data Source=xe;User Id=xxxxx;Password=xxxxx;";
OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(xe);
My c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora file is this:
# sqlnet.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
# Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP, TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
And my c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\TNSNames.ora file is this:
tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File: C:\DevSuiteHome\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = xe)
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <machine name)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = PLSExtProc)
Just for good measure, my tnsping xe shows:
"Used paramter files:<br/>
c:\devsuitehome\network\admin\sqlnet.ora<br/><br/>
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias<br/>
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = xe)))
OK (0 msec)"
So, how can I make that initial connection faster so I don't spend 15 years testing my application due to slow start-ups? :)
Thank you.
Kevin.

Edited by: 832285 on Jan 29, 2011 10:10 AMI have formatted my hard drive since my first post. I was running window 64 bit with a higher version of the ODAC and that proved to crash my machine with faulty error messages about memory. I have reverted to a previous version of the ODAC tools and everything works very smooth now. Still the connection time is consistently 20 seconds or longer on the first attempt.
Just a little more information.. I am currently taking a college course with 15 other students, as you can tell by the impersonal machine name, where programming using visual studio 2008, and Oracle 10g xe is expected. All of us are using a 64 bit environment and we all have difficulties cutting down the load time of making the first connection to Oracle. Some people are longer making the connection, but none are shorter.
One other note. After the first connection is made, taking 20 or more seconds, and is closed, all subsequent openings of the connection are instantaneous, for all of us.
If there is ANYTHING more I can get for you, please let me know. With my environment stable as it is, I will not need to format or change any information for the foreseeable future.
Here is the information you requested
1 The connection method I am using, I have chosen the manual connection for you, however the delay exists if the connection is made through the GUI as well.
Historically, I am getting slow connection speeds through adding the connection through the GUI or by a manual connection. Here is how I am doing it manually. I have the connection being created in 20 seconds, which is the best I can get.

I fought for weeks about the ODAC version 11.2.0.1 that you see in the previous post, and that would be a whole new thread. Suffice it to say I have a reliable environment to program in with this 10.2.0.1.0 version that I am running now, and the connection time has not changed, it is still minimum 20 seconds load time, sometimes up to 25.

CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hello everyone!
We're experiencing the following error, connecting with "Crystal Developer XI" or "Crystal Developer 2008" to a unicode-configured Oracle 10g Database using "Oracle Server"-driver and choosing a table:
ERROR MESSAGE: Buffer overrun detected!
Program: ...essObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\crw32.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state.The Program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
This error is reproducable by 100%. We're normally using it because of performance, but now we have do work with "Microsoft OLEDB" instead.
STEP BY STEP: Open CR Developer, File, New Report, New Connection (to unicode instance - this is a must), "Oracle Server", (Login without checking "OS auth."), Double click on table, Error.
DETAILS: "Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production", Oracle-client used by CR Developer: "11.1.0". OS: Windows XP, SP2
We tried CR SP4 and SP for 2008 edition. Didn't help. Nothing on google, nor in this forum, nor in BO knowledge base.
Does anyone also experience this error / know anything about? Thanks in advance!
David
P.S.: Picture:Hi Aaron,
I highly recommend that you only have ONE oracle client installed. Oracle tends to have problems finding the correct dependency versions of their runtime. One way is to change your PATH statement so it only has the one Client listed but I highly suggest you uninstall both and then install just the 11G client.
Also, when CR connects to Oracle we query the DB and load all tables, SP's Views, etc. and when the local resources are filled up we stop. So when connecting be sure to check off the options not being used and add filtering in that UI also for your schema as well.
One last change, close the designer down and then go into regedit and this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports\DatabaseOptions - DoAutoSmartLinking and set the default value to No if it's not already.
Thanks

<<no stack trace available>>Hi,
Just run the db_setup.sh script located in the bin directory of ias
If you just give the Oracle Home directory the libraries will be found.
Register a Datasource pointing to the service you defined in tnsnames.ora

Hi,
How can I configure native and third party database drivers for

I am trying to run a Entity bean which gives null pointer error while

the problem, but my guess is it cannot find or instantiate the object
since it cannot connect to the proper database.
Could anybody help me with it?

Generic Connectivity from Oracle 10gR2 to SQL Server using ODBC
Hi,
I have setup an ODBC generic connection from an Oracle 10.2 database (on Win 2000) to a SQL Server database (on a different Windows machine). When I query a column which is of LONG data type (TEXT on SQL Server) my session just hangs, no data or errors are returned, trace file just ends showing the SQL statement I entered, but no errors.
If I query other columns with CHAR, DATE, NUMBER datatypes the rows are returned successfully. As far as I can see from the documentation, the TEXT data type in SQL Server should map to SQL_LONGVARCHAR in ODBC, then that should map to LONG in Oracle, so I wouldnt have thought it was an incompatible data mapping issue.
I hear that LONG is being replaced/deprecated in Oracle, but is it now not supported by the HS ODBC program provided with 10g Rel 2? Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a workaround? Any help is much appreciated.
Kieren.Hi,
HSODBC is not supported on Windows x64. So that's why you get the error ORA-28545
What you can do is to install DG4ODBC 11g on a 32bit machine.
DG4ODBC can be installed separately from the Oracle Server, for example on the SQL SERVER if you can.
But it is supported only in 32 bit too.
You can download from this website:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html
==>Oracle Database Gateways 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
The last option would be to create a virtual machine on your X64 machine with a Windows 32bit and DG4ODBC 11g.
Please let me know if you have any question.

First, this is a forum of volunteers. There is no "urgent" here.
"Urgent" means one of two things -
1) people are dying, or
2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
(And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For *them* to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2. I seriously doubt your problem fits that criteria.
You don't have a support contract? Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data.
That said, you need to understand a few things about your specific problem,
First, port 1521 is only used by the listener to accept a connection request. Once it gets that request (and finds that it is for a service (sid) that it knows about, it will fork a server process and tell the requesting client that it can communicate with that server process over some other port .. a randomly chosen port number in the "high" range. It could be your vpn is blocking that other port, whereas your internal firewall is not.
But this is just an educated guess since I cannot find "can not connect remote oracle database over VPN" in any error message manual. If you had mentioned the VPN along with an actual oracle error message we could be much more precise in our diagnoses and recommendations.
---- edit 22 Sep
It occurred to me that I just assumed you were using the same client machine in both cases ... a laptop that you use both at work (local network) and home (vpn). If that assumption is false, there are probably problems with your tns setup on the home (vpn) machine.
But again, it would be much easier to help if you gave us an actual error message. -
Crystal Report 9 crashes while trying to connect to Oracle

Hi,I'm having trouble with Crystal Report 9 and wondering if someone could give me a clue.When I try to connect to Oracle using "Refresh" button, Crystal Report 9 crashes everytime.And, the following error appears in the Application Event Log.Faulting application crw32.exe, version 9.2.3.1699, faulting module crqe.dll, version 9.2.1.1839, fault address 0x00009007.Environment:Crystal Report Version: Crystal Report 9 SP7OS: Windows 2003 Server SP1CPU: Intel Xeon CPUOther Major Applications: Oracle 9i, Citrix Presentation Server 4.0Other Facts:- This happens to every Crystal Report files on the machine.- The same Crystal Report files work fine on other machine with exactly the same environment ex) OS ver/CR ver/Installed app...- I could never connect ot Oracle successfully on this machine - it's not like it used to work before.Things that I have tried:- I have tried reinstallation of CR9 without uninstalling but it didn't work.- I have uninstalled CR9 and installed it again and then restarted the machine but it didn't work.- I originally tried without any SP installed and applied SP7 afterwards but the results were the same.- I tried turning on and off the DEP (Data Execution Protection) for CR9. But the results were the same.Can someone give me an advice what I should try from here, please?Let me know if you want more info.Many thanks,SeijiAlso, see this ARTICLE from the Tips & Tricks sub-forum, for things to look at with crashes and hangs. It covers the hardware, the OS and the software, and offers links for tuning up the system, and getting it ready for video editing. I know that there is a lot of material in there, but Neale has done a great job of putting things into a checklist, and offering links to other material.
That rec. is for use along with John T's links, which are a bit more specific to your burned DVD's.

Can't get Microsoft FrontPage to connect to Oracle 9.2i
After considerble discussion in the microsoft.public.frontpage.client newsgroup (subject: "Database | Results ... won't ... through Oracle ODBC"), we had to give up and conclude that there didn't seem to be a straightforward way to connect to Oracle 9.2i via the FrontPage database wizard.
I tried a system Oracle ODBC DSN via MS Access and it worked; but, ` can't get the same DSN to work from FrontPage. From FrontPage it generates a user/password error, though the same user/password works from MS Access.
I tried an OLEDB connection and still received the following:
Server error: Unable to connect to a database from the web server using the
connection string 'Provider=MSDAORA; PWD=myPwd; UID=Administrator; Data
Source=glOdb.mikecoughlin.net'.
The following error message comes from the database driver software; it may
appear in a different language depending on how the driver is configured.
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle
Number: -2147217843 (0x80040e4d)
I'm certain that this user/password combination is valid e.g. it works in Enterprise Manager to view tables etc.
So, my question is:
Does anyone have a/the workaround to use FrontPage to connect to Oracle 9.2i ?
thanks,Trying use ODBC driver of Oracle Client, available on this Web Site.

Connect to Oracle without Oracle Client in Windows?
Hi All,
Is there anyway to connect to Oracle DB without any installation of Oracle Product in Client?
I am using MS ODBC Driver Oracle but It need the "Data Source Name"
It seems that client machine do need to Setup the NET 8 Configure / Tnsname.ora
I can try to set any thing in Oracle Server, But want to minimize the effort doing on the client (Because there are many!).
I am using Visual Basic, WIN XP as client Platform. WIN 2K as Oracle DB Server.
Can anybody give me a hand. Thank you very much!
Eric YuenYou'll need to install Oracle Client in the client machine. ODBC (or other) connections need OCI and Oracle Net layers.
The Oracle ODBC has a lot of dependencies, probably a thousand files. Unfortunately Client is pretty heavy... managewize also. So that's why you should develop "internet apps". :)
