Software Update disabled Airport network

Today I downladed 2 security updates, iTunes 7, and the latest Quicktime.
Upon restart, my Airport Extreme basestation appears to have vanished.
My network shows up under my airport network, but I can't go online.
And, when I open my Airport Set-Up Assistant to reconfigure an existing Airport Extreme Base Station, nothing shows up.
Finally, my Internet Connect Application never opens. I just get the spinning pizza wheel and have to force quit.
Any suggestions? It seems like every time I download an update I get a devastating and time consuming issue. I'm getting pretty tired of it.

All well and good, but I had the same experience,
... I installed ... via Software Update, ...
as soon as the installation finished
(before the restart), my laptop stopped seeing the
wireless network. (The reported power went from
pegged to zero.)
And I've never used a keychain.
(1) Sorry for barging into an existing thread, rather than starting a new one.
(2) After I poked around on this forum for awhile, I was reminded by multiple posts that I should have tried repairing permissions. After I found my Mac OS X disk, I tried it, and - ta-da! - my Airport card is working again.
The moral (obvious to the old hands here, I'm sure, but not to the rest of us) is to repair permissions if anything funny happens.

  • Airport EXPRESS doesn't work after software update on Airport EXTREME

My Airport Express stopped working after I did my software update for my Airport EXTREME the other day. It lost the connection to my Airport EXPRESS and so I did a hard reset and tried to redo the whole profile but after many, many hard resets, I still can't make it work.
Airport Setup Assistant shows that the setup is complete and everything is fine. But if I select "Extend my wireless range", after the setup, my Airport Express won't even appear anywhere. If I select "Join my wireless network" then it will appear with a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address under my Airport Utility. It will also show up on my iTunes but I can't open it using Airport Utility and iTunes spends a long time searching for it and then gives up. In all the above cases, the amber light remains flashing and the green light never comes on. What else can I do to fix this??

Either change the channel that the phone is transmitting on or change the channel the Express is transmitting on. You can do the latter in Airport Admin Utility; the former depends on your phone.

  • Re-install Tiger, Software Update, now Airport doesn't work

So, I just replaced the hard drive on my Dual USB iBook G3. I completed the installation, and everything was working great. Airport was showing my home network (unsecured, iknow) and I was able to connect to Software Update via the Airport.
First major download was the 10.4.8 combined update for PPC - after downloading it and restarting I lost Airport connectivity. Can't find my newtork, can't manually input IP address, etc.
Next, plugged into Ethernet and downloaded Airport (4.2 ?) and still nothing.
What's the deal? Airport was working before the updates, and now nothing. Other laptops at home are working wirelessly just fine, so it's not my ISP, connection, or router.
    Help!

Hi sockdaddy, welcome to Apple Discussions!
Click here to be taken to the Airport Troubleshooting kBase document.
It could be that you need a firmware update following the 10.4.8 update. Follow the steps in the above link, and post back with your results.
Another thing to try is the Mac OS Software update. Click on the Apple logo at the top left of screen while connected to the 'net, choose 'Software Update' and let the computer do the rest.
If all else fails, remove and re-seat the Airport card by following these instructions.
Let us know how you go.

  • 10.4.7 update disabled AirPort

I used Software Update to upgrade my iBook to 10.4.7. When I logged in, there was a pop-up that stated that /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext was installed improperly.
I used Disk Utility to repair permissions on the disk and then restarted. After the restart, AirPort was once again enabled.

Highly recommend you download the 10.4.7 Combo Updater (PPC) and reinstall the update. Only this time do the following:
    1. Repair the hard drive as well as permissions. You will need to boot from your Tiger DVD in order to repair the hard drive.
    2. Disconnect any peripherals except original keyboard and mouse.
    3. Restart into safe mode.
    4. Reinstall the combo updater and restart normally.

I just updated with the latest software updates. Right after I've done the necessary restarts I try to connect to a wlan and I get connected but the memory usuage of airport goes up to 1,3GB and cpu usuage 99% (see image). Here are the software updates I installed.

Okay strangely enough, after repairing disk permissions (though it only found an error in a log file, nothing with airport) it seems to work now.
What is strange is that the airport process no longer exists in Activity Monitor. Oh well everything works as normal again

  • Introducing Software Updates into Existing Network

I'm having some trouble getting my head wrapped around how software updates work with the SCCM 2012 environment.  My university is rolling out SCCM 2012 R2 into an existing environment where there is currently no control over software updates.  All
of our machines are currently retrieving their updates directly from Microsoft using Windows 7's built-in Windows Update service.  We are beginning to push out the ConfigMgr client to all of the workstations on the domain.  My question is how should
I handle software updates for these machines going forward.  Some of these machines may be disconnected for periods of time from the network while others are connected all of the time.  Should I just download all past updates for Windows 7, Office
2010, etc. and deploy all of these updates to the existing machines.  All new machines won't be a problem as they are being imaged and deployed using SCCM, so I'll know that they're up-to-date.  My thought was just to create software groups containing
these past updates and deploy them to all workstations.  Then I will have an ADR setup to handle all future Patch Tuesday updates.  Is this the best way to handle this scenario?

Okay, I understand what you guys are saying and I've setup something similar.  I downloaded all past updates for all Microsoft products we have in use.  I broke these up by year so as to avoid any deployment package limits, so I placed these updates
in software groups named "All 2010 Updates", "All 2011 Updates", etc. with corresponding deployment packages.  I'm not separating anything by product as I'm just letting the ConfigMgr client handle what a client needs.  I then deployed these groups
to all of my workstations, and will leave them deployed to the collection for the foreseeable future or until everything gets caught up.  Does this sound okay?
Now here's another question.  I noticed for this month's patch Tuesday that there were quite a few revised updates that were originally released in 2011.  My ADR grabbed all updates released or revised in the past 1 month.  These updates now
exist in both my "2014 08 August" and "All 2011 Updates" software update groups (as well as my "2011" and "2014-2" deployment packages).  So basically it appears I now have duplicate updates.  I thought if an update was revised they would expire
the original update.  Is this not always the case?
    I appreciate the responses guys.

  • Software update and AirPort Update 2006-002

I have a relatively new macbook pro (core 2 duo). A new version of airport software was released on wednesday. Software update on my macbook tells me there is no new software available. Why would it not recognize this new update? Although I can manually download the new version, I am concerned that there is an issue with Software Update. It seems pretty clear that my airport software is not the new version (it has a copyright of 2005) and is the same version that the Apple support person has on their, non-updated, machine. By the way, Apple Support was stumped by this-I'm waiting for a call back.
Any suggestions about the procedure to follow when software update isn't updating?
    Thanks,
    Pete
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi,
The updates can also be found on the Downloads
    section of the Support site:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportupdate20
    06002.html
Thanks. I know I can manually download the update-the question is why software updater doesn't recognize that there is an update available and whether this will be an ongoing problem with subsequent updates.

  • Why did my last software update disable functions?

    Hi.
Ever since my last recommended software update last week, my PhotoShop app can't open files or save them. The message it gives me is "Can't open file due to disk error." Also, I now can no longer open iMovie2, which I was using as an app on Snow Leopard because I can't stand the new iMovie. I've been editing with it for the last two years, but no all at once it won't open any longer and the app freezes and must be forced to quit. At the same time, I can no longer print from the drop-down meniu from AppleWorks 6, but can print from the toolbar icon. All of this began after my last recommended system update (I can't remember because it was one of four updates at the same time). Nothing else has changed. I've shut down and thought that rebooting would cure the problems buut it hasn't.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

Maybe that update will fix your problems...or not.

  • Itunes 7.0 or Quicktime 7.1.3 update disabled airport connection??

I just ran the automatic update which installed Itunes 7.0 and Quicktime 7.1.3
Afterward my airport connection could not get an ip address. (It had the self assigned 169.254.x.x address) The airport was not actually disabled, It was still connected, but could not access the internet via the airport. Ethernet was unaffected. We have another computer which had not been updated and it still connected via airport no problem.
Then, after about an hour of searching the discussions for an answer, just as I was writing this, the problem resolved itself.
    Very strange.

I try and download QuickTime stand alone, but it only is a package with Itunes,
it is available as a standalone. there are two different versions of the installer on the download page. take a closer look at the area of the page immediately below the "Download the Free Player" heading (to the left of the page):

  • After software update wi-fi network not found

Turned on apple tv (newest one) this morning and there was an update so I had it run, after restart, Apple TV cannot find wifi network any longer although it found it fine to update, my phone and laptop in the same room 20 ft from the router are having no trouble connecting. I have 2 wi-fi networks (linksys router and airport) and it won't find either.
How do I trouble shoot this problem? Nothing has changed in my setup. I do not broadcast SSID, watched movies on netflix though it fine yesterday. Did the update change something?
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
    Betsy

Betsy, i just updated my second gen apple tv and the same thing happen to me. After some trial and error attempts to locate the network i ended up sending it to sleep then unplug it, wait a sec, and plug it back and voila!! Everythings back again. Hope this helps, good luck.

  • AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 disables airport

After working perfectly since I received my Macbook Pro on Friday, I was notified yesterday there was a Software Update called "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003". Not thinking twice, I installed it while I was at work, then when I went home and rebooted, I could no longer turn on my airport (just the spinning beach ball). Then in network preferences when trying to turn airport on, it freezes up the system. I then have to force quit and force the machine to power off by holding down the power button. The only way I have been able to get airport to come back on is by creating a new location in network preferences called "Home". If it gets switched back to "Automatic" I can no longer turn Airport on anymore. Also, even though I can turn it on using the new location, I am no longer able to connect to the wifi network at work at all, and it fails to see as many wireless networks in our building as it did before.
I realize now after reading at several blogs online that this update was almost immediately pulled and is no longer available. Is there any way to undo or revert back to a previous state before this update or do I have to wait for a fix. Or, if necessary, should I use the DVD that came with my system to totally do a system restore of my machine?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Can't connect to software update and other online services with airport

Hello, hopefully someone can help with this problem. When going to use software update using airport I get an error message saying there is a network problem and it can't connect. Also, when trying to use Microsoft Messenger it can't connect either way.
I can connect and use the internet using airport and apps such as iChat and Entourage work.
Can someone tell me why I can't connect to Apple's Software update service through airport?
    Thanks

Is your network configuration something like the following:
DSL/Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] AirPort Extreme Base Station > (wireless) > MacBook?
...and, if so, you are able to get to Software Update when connecting your MB directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the LAN port of the AEBS...correct?
Since, you stated that you are using port forwarding, I assume that you have setup your MB with a static IP. Do you have any Proxies setup on either/both your Ethernet or AirPort connections on the MB?

  • How to control Adobe Software Updates

    Hello All,
A user reported an issue with software updates for the Creative Cloud Suite, it's not support for the update I am asking for I wanted to ask if there is a way of controlling all Adobe Software updates for my network. Similar to how you can control updates for Windows OS's through WSUS.

If you are using enterprise deployed version of creative cloud then use adobe update server setup tool.
