Solaris 10 Dual interface

I have two interfaces inet0 & inet1 on my solaris 10 server connected to two different networks - One to the DMZ network & other to the private network. I am able to access the server - only when I bring any one of the interface down.
If I bring down inet0, I can access through inet1 IP and the vice versa.
The server was hardened & so I have enabled ip_forwarding using :
ndd /dev/ip ip_forwarding 1
The gateway & mask are set proper.
I tried rebooting the machine, but no chance. please suggest how to resolve this problem.

Do you have both interfaces plugged into the same switch?
If so the problem is probably that both interfaces have the same mac address.
If its a sparc box, then you can set the eeprom variable 'local-mac-address?'
if "eeprom | grep local" indictates that its set to false do
eeprom 'local-mac-address?=true'.
You probably need to use quotes there to escape the ?.

  • Expressway-E VMWARE dual interface

    Hi All
There is a firewall between DMZ and Internal network. We have used expressway E as dual interfaces one is in the DMZ and other is in the internal network.
Clint is insisting that there is security risk deploying expressway in this way? Please advice
    Thanks

    Your Client is right!
Expressway E is supposed to be connected to the DMZ network.
If you can use an offical ip without nat address you only need 1 interface.
If you have to use nat then you will need two dmz networks.

these are pseudo APDUs interpreted by the card reader. The mifare protocol is specific an proprietary, it has nothing to do with APDUs.
if your card is a dual interface javacard that supports mifare, then the card manufacturer may assist you on how to access the mifare memory zone from javacard.

I would like to know working of dual interface card. Is it possible to write data on java card Via NFC or vice-versa?You either need to communicate with an applet on the card (that you develop) or interface with MiFARE. You SmartMX should have MiFARE as well as Java Card. What are you trying to achieve? If you can provide more details we may be able to add more information on how to do it.
Also, I want to know how to program java card & what kind of hardware I need for programing java card ?You will need a PC/SC compliant smartcard reader. You can get dual interface readers with contact and contactless interfaces.
    Cheers,

  • New to Solaris - dual boot question

I have been using OpenSolaris on my ThinkPad T400s, dual booting with Windows 7. I want to give Solaris 10 a try. I've had it running in Virtual Box under OS X for a while, and I think I'm comfortable enough to try it out on my ThinkPad. Here is my question: will the Solaris Interactive installer let me install Solaris 10 in my existing OpenSolaris partition? And if it does, will it modify the bootloader so that I can still dual boot with Windows 7? I dont want to have to destroy partitions and re-install Windows. Once its on my hard drive, I can add myself as a user, install the Intel 5300 wireless driver, etc... Anyone have any other issues with Solaris 10 on a T400s?

Okay, well as usually happens, when I resort to help I end up solving my own problem.
In this case however, I still don't have a good grasp of what is going on.
I deleted the partition table with sgdisk --zap-all /dev/sda and then used gdisk to recreate it, specifically setting the code for /dev/sda1 to ef00.
I then reformatted the FAT partition, leaving the other one alone. After mounting /dev/sda1 to /boot and reinstalling linux and grub, I ran:
    grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=$esp --bootloader-id=arch_grub --recheck
as described in the wiki, and
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
And it worked, including automatically detecting Windows on the other drive. Not sure what went wrong the first time but I'm glad to get it working.

  • Question on Solaris NIC interface names

    Hello,
I've installed RAC on a two node Sparc Solaris cluster using Oracle clusterware. One node is amodel V240 and the other is a T2000. I've found that Solaris names the NIC interface by the chipset soI have two different interface names. When I try to startup from srvctl the VIP on node two does not start as I think it is expecting the node 2 interface name to be the same as node on. Has anyone else running on Sparc Solaris ran into this? What was your Solution?
    Thanks for the help.
    Jeff

    Hello Rodrigo,
It does not appear that the Virtual Interface will quite accomplish what I need, or at least I'm doing something wrong. My interface on node1 is bge0 and e1000g0 on node 2.
    ifconfig -a
    lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1
    inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
    e1000g0: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 2
    inet 172.31.74.149 netmask fffffc00 broadcast 172.31.75.255
    ether 0:14:4f:cb:9b:7a
    aggr1: flags=1000843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 3
    inet 10.1.1.2 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 10.1.1.255
    ether 0:14:4f:cb:9b:7c
When I issue the following to create the bge0 alias on node 2 it doesn't work.
    ifconfig bge0 172.31.74.149 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
ifconfig: SIOCGLIFNETMASK: bge0: no such interface
Any idea as to what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

  • Route for dual interface

I have two interfaces to be configured eth0 & eth1.
eth0 with the default gateway and eth1 with a different gateway.

Please provide the commands in solaris 10 to configure the above.Solaris routing is destination based, not source based. You can't assign a gateway the way you're describing. In most cases, you don't need to because you can't force traffic to go out a specific interface anyway (without a lot of tricks).

  • Xp/solaris dual boot bug

    Hello
I have a 80gb hard disk set up with win xp pro along
with a 25gb unformated partition. Recently I installed
    solaris 10 x86 to the 25gb partition from sun's
website. the installation setup automatically selected
the 25 gb space. all seemed to be working fine. the
only problem was after installation solaris boot
manager selected solaris automatically if no selection
of win xp was made within 30 seconds. since i needed
xp pro as a default i used the utility OSBS (boot.exe
and osbs135). as instructed i have entered the saved
solaris.bin from mbr to xp root and have entered
corresponding entry in win.ini file. the new boot
manager enables xp selection by default, xp pro boots
all fine but if i select solaris nothing happens
    except a blinking cursor.
It seems to me that solaris partition is all fine and
healthy as I added few packages from solaris
installation cd few days back. Only problem is i m
unable to boot from it with the OSBS boot manager.
Is this a known problem?? or is there any better boot
    manager?
Any advice/suggestion will be highly appreciated.
    Many thanks

Hi, I am not sure if this would work but it might. First of all do you know if you delete the solaris partition then wouldn't it go back to booting to Windows? Just wondering about that. Well anyways here is my proposed solution that enables booting Solaris from Windows XP boot menu. Actually wait do you have a floppy drive on your laptop or a portable one. Because this solution requires that. Reply if you have one.

  • Dual Interface Networking Problem

    The scenario:
iMac with two active network interfaces, Airport & Ethernet
Airport = DHCP, 10.0.0.x address (cable modem gateway)
Ethernet = Static 66.93.x.x address (DSL gateway)
Airport is first in the "Service Order" list and so that interface serves as the default gateway.
Web browsing and other internet traffic which originates on the iMac travels over the Airport and through the cable modem gateway, as expected.
However, pings to the 66.93.x.x address from the outside world are not returned.
By watching tcpdump on both en0 and en1, I can see that these pings are in fact reaching the iMac on en0 (as expected), but the iMac is trying to return them on en1 (which is not expected).
How can I fix this? I am fairly certain that this behavior is new to Leopard. (ie: I am fairly certain that under Tiger, this Mac would properly respond on the interface and network which it was contacted, rather than trying to redirect its responses through the default gateway.)
    Help!

I think you misunderstand. Mac OS X has always supported simultaneous network interfaces and multihoming.
The desired result in this case is for general traffic to travel en1 (the default gateway), but for the public IP address on en0 to still be reachable for inbound traffic from the outside world. Similar setups have worked fine pre-Leopard.
And again, I can see the packets with tcpdump.
Currently, responses to inbound traffic from en0 are being sent back over en1 instead of en0, and that is neither a desired nor expected result.

  • LaserJet 5200M with dual interfaces...

    Greetings to the list,
I am an instructor at a small technical school and we have a LaserJet 5200M here that we use for both student and faculty printing. The faculty mostly uses it for 11x17 printing while the students use it for 8.5x11. The issue, according to my help desk is that we have it attached to two networks, one via the ethernet connection and one via a lynksis wifi print server.
There is a student computer attached to the same wifi network as the printserver and that is where the problem comes in. Every few days the printer stops printing correctly and starts to pump out PCL error pages.
Is there a problem with having two interfaces turned on on this printer or should I be looking for other sources of the problem?

Save yourself a lot of bother, and don't.
Set the server up in a NAT environment and have your router/firewall control which ports are exposed to the outside world.
That's the far, far easier approach.
The problem is that there is no one-click solution to your problem.
While it's easy enough to configure apache to serve sites on one interface or the other (its designed around running multiple virtual hosts), the same cannot be said for all the other services on the machine which will, by default, listen on all interfaces.
To do this properly you will need to tweak each service to listen to specific interfaces. That's a lot of work up front, and even more as your server grows and you add services (you have to remember to edit the configuration file accordingly.
Miss one and you risk exposing your system.
By running in a NAT environment you control this at the network edge by only allowing in the specific traffic you expect (e.g. port 80 for web) and you don't have to worry about securing each individual service.
I suppose you could achieve a similar result by running the software firewall on the server and denying all incoming traffic in the public port other than port 80 but that wouldn't be my recommendation.

  • VGA cable extension -or- extending the reach of Solaris

I purchased a 15ft TRIPP LITE VGA monitor extension cable. This cable does not work with Solaris 10, but does work with Windows! The Solaris graphical interface does not want to load with the extension cable in place.
Why? And what can I do about the situation. Will a Gefen VGA through coax solution work with Solaris? Or is there another way to do this?
Helping me figure out how to move a Solaris computer a few feet away from my desk will help save my hearing.

I would love to create a connection from the router to my computer. I don't need or want it to be wireless. It's not like I'm hauling this computer around the house, and there is a cat 5 jack about 1 foot from my computer. Any idea how this is done? Even in theory?
We have Comcast hi-speed internet and they offer "home networking" wired or wireless but unfortunately "At this time, Comcast Home Networking does not support Macintosh computers." (you have to dig pretty deep to find that out). I have no real concept of how the cat 5 wiring and the highspeed internet work together.

  • Alternative Threading Model in Solaris 8?

I haven't been able to get to any Solaris 8 docs yet, but I've been hearing about his alternative threading model available in Solaris 8. Can someone explain it to me?

I know this question was posted a while ago, but this info may be of help.
As well as improved real-time support for threads, Solaris 8 has an extra set of thread libraries under /usr/lib/lwp.
They are designed to be direct replacements for the standard libraries; you can pick them up by linking against them or using LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
This new one-level libthread is a library that implements all of the POSIX and Solaris threads interfaces using a one-level threading model, where threads are one-to-one with lightweight processes (LWPs), rather than the two-level model that is used in the standard libthread implementation, where user-level threads are multiplexed over possibly fewer LWPs.
It has been found in tests that some applications perform much better with the new library. However, more kernel resources are consumed.
    Hope that helps.

  • Help Installing Solaris on a windows XP computer

    Hello,
I just downloaded the Solaris 10 O/S and burned it to a CD to install it. However, I need help on installing it and setting up my hard drive and bios for dual booting. How do I do that?
I have seen that Fedora 6 has a partitioning program to automatically resize and partition the hard drive, as well as a program to setup dual booting. Does Solaris have these programs or do I have to use a program like partition magic? Would someone help me setup my system so that I can successfully install Solaris, dual boot and not lose Windows XP and my existing files. Thank you
