Solaris 10 install ZFS dependencies not satisfied in default group

I'm installing solaris 10 (No I'm not allowed to upgrade to 11) on VMware and I'm trying to keep the installation small. I'm attempting to install the "Reduced Networking Group" but I get this error:
"The default packages included in the selected metacluster do not satisfy the dependencies of the options you have selected. You must select "Custom" and resolve these dependencies. The following dependency has been created:
1. ZFS(Usr) in "Zettabyte File System" depends on "The Python interpreter, libraries and utilities" in "GNOME Runtime".
So I tried doing the Custom install and selecting that dependency, but it creates another 3 dependencies. Which in turn create 5 more dependencies etc.
I tried searching google, but couldn't find any information about it. How do I get around this?

That's the MBR label on the disk. That's easy to modify with fdisk.
Inside the Solaris partition is another (VTOC) label. That one is harder to modify. It's what you see when you run 'format' -> 'print' -> 'partition' or 'prtvtoc'.
To resize it, the only method I'm aware of is to record the slices somewhere, then destroy the label or run 'format -e' and create a new label for the autodetect device. Once you have the new label in place, you can recreate the old slices. All the data on the disk should be stable.
Then you can make use of the space on the disk for new slices, for enlarging the last slice, or if you have a VM of some sort managing the disk.

  • [Solved] pacman kdebase-workspace dependencies not satisfyable

    KDE arbitarly defines several filesystems as "slow" and hardcodes this decision in kio/kio/kfileitem.cpp. I decided to turn it off and always  return false (=fast file system). After checking out the PKGBUILD via ABS,  I have made a patch and changed the PKGBUILD accordingly.
    Patching and compiling went fine, install went fine as well. I then thought I should change the name to something non-default to differentiate the package from the official one. So I've added the "provides=('kdelibs')" and "conflicts=('kdelibs')" lines, built the package and tried to install it.
    Pacman errors out with

    Why is that surprising, 4.14 is greater than 4.11, so the requirement is met by the official package.  As to why yours doesn't work, you'd have to share the PKGBUILD that you are using. (edit: you editted while I was posting)
    What is the specific pacman command that gives that error?

  • Where is the default group information stored for a portal user?

    Hello -
    There is a field in the WWSEC_PERSON$ table called DEFAULT_GROUP, and it is populated with an ID from the WWSEC_GROUP$ table but it seems like there is more to the overall picture here.
    If I try to manually update a users group via SQL,
    UPDATE WWSEC_PERSON$ SET DEFAULT_GROUP = 318 WHERE USER_NAME = 'XXXXXXX'
    Then check the portal profile for the user 'XXXXXXX' I do not see their 'Default Group' as being updated. (However the default group is in effect because these users are sent to the correct group when they log in.
    What do I need to modify for the group name to show up for the user on their profile page?

    Yannick -
    Thank you for the reply. Do you know which table is used in OID? Basically why I need to do this is we hire many new employees every week and create accounts in AD. We sync AD -> OID but the people who create the new users never inform me that they have been created so they never get a default group assigned. This causes them to go to the 'Portal Builder' page when they login to the portal.
    To fix this issue Im writing a powershell script to automatically update the default group of all employees that do not have a default group assigned. Do you know if a better method I can accomplish this for bulk OID records automatically? I'm very much open new/better ideas this was the best method I could think of currently.
    Thanks again.

  • Wwsec_person$ default group

    I am creating new users using ldap via a form. The user gets set up fine and I can see the default group when I log into the administrator. However the wwsec_person$ table is not getting updated with the default group. Can someone please tell me why this would be?

  • Error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)

    Hi,
    I was going to install a winff package (a GUI front end to ffmpeg for converting between video formats), but when I ran yaourt -S winff and tried to install it refused because it isn't for the x86_64 architecture. So I decided to edit the PKGBUILD and perhaps try to force it anyway, but then I saw that the PKGBUILD is actually getting the precompiled RPM package and as I checked, while there was no precompiled 64bit version of the RPM there was one for a deb version that is offered on winff site.
    Since deb's are just archives I ended up, after a few tries, with this PKGBUILD which uses ar and tar commands to get to the binaries inside of the amd64 deb:
    # Contributor: yugrotavele <[email protected]>
    # Modified by libervisco for x86_64
    pkgname=winff-amd64
    pkgver=0.42
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="GUI for ffmpeg"
    url="http://www.winff.org"
    license=('GPL')
    depends=('ffmpeg gtk gdk-pixbuf')
    makedepends=('')
    source=('http://winff.googlecode.com/files/winff-0.42-amd64.deb')
    arch=('x86_64')
    md5sums=('1febf5fd19fa76bdc1da06d3e6c4d3b8')
    build() {
    ar vx winff-0.42-amd64.deb
    tar xvzf data.tar.gz
    install -Dm755 $startdir/src/usr/bin/winff $startdir/pkg/usr/bin/winff
    install -Dm755 $startdir/src/usr/share/winff/presets.xml $startdir/pkg/usr/share/winff/presets.xml
    install -Dm755 $startdir/src/usr/share/winff/winff.png $startdir/pkg/usr/share/winff/winff.png
    So what I basically do is run yaourt -S winff and when it asks whether I want to edit it, I edit it and replace the original PKGBUILD content with above.
    It successfully runs the build() commands, finds and installs the dependencies, but when it's time to install the actual new winff package is throws up this:
    loading package data...
    checking dependencies...
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: winff: requires ffmpeg gtk gdk-pixbuf
    I don't get it. It installed all the dependencies (and I even checked whether winff works in one of the earlier tries when I manually installed gdk-pixbuf when the binary asked for it). What does it want now?
    Here is the whole process:

  • Getting this error while opening a folder : This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel

    Hi,
    While trying to open a folder on my Windows 7 Home Premium, an error comes "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
    action.  Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." I tried searching on the net but did not get great support for the issue when it happens with folder opening.

    Hi Nikunj Shah,
    First, I suggest you download
    Microsoft Safety Scanner or
    Malicious Software Removal Tool to run a full scan.
    The error messages here seems to be caused by the corrupted registries, which related with the folder association.
    You may take a try to merge the following registry settings to reset the folder association, before that, remember to backup your registry settings first:
    How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

    Comment by: demizer on Wed, 24 Oct 2012 04:11:54 +0000
    @modular, You're trying to build with the 3.6.2 kernel. The current version (rc11) does not work with the 3.6.2 kernel. If you want to use it, you will have to downgrade to the 3.5.6 kernel (linux and linux-headers). https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrading_Packages
    Thanks!
    Comment by: MilanKnizek on Wed, 24 Oct 2012 08:07:19 +0000
    @demizer: there still seemed to be a problem during upgrading - zfs/spl requires kernel of certain version (hard-coded) and this blocks the upgrade (the old installed zfs/spl requires the old kernel and kernel can't be upgraded w/o breaking dependency of zfs/spl and therefore build of the new zfs/spl fails, too).
    So far, I have had to remove zpl/spl, upgrade kernel, rebuild + install spl/zfs and manually run depmod against the new kernel (i.e. the postinst: depmod -a does not work until next reboot) and only then reboot to load the new kernel zfs modules successfully.
    That is quite clumsy and error-prone - I hope it will be resolved via DMKS.
    Comment by: srf21c on Sun, 28 Oct 2012 04:00:31 +0000
    All, if you're suffering zfs kernel upgrade pain fatigue, seriously consider going with the LTS (long term support) kernel. I just successfully built zfs on a system that I switched to the linux-lts 3.0.48-1. All you have to do is install the linux-lts and linux-lts-headers packages, reboot to the lts kernel, and change any instances of depends= or makedepends= lines in the package build file like so:
    Before:
    depends=('linux=3.5' "spl=${pkgver}" "zfs-utils=${pkgver}")
    makedepends=('linux-headers=3.5')
    After:
    depends=('linux-lts=3.0' "spl=${pkgver}" "zfs-utils=${pkgver}")
    makedepends=('linux-lts-headers=3.0')
    Then build and install each package in this order: spl-utils,spl,zfs-utils,zfs.
    Worked like a champ for me.
    Comment by: stoone on Mon, 29 Oct 2012 12:09:29 +0000
    If you keep the linux, and linux-headers packages while using the LTS you don't need to modify the PKGBUILDs. Because the checks will pass but it will build the packages to your current runnning kernel.

    Hey everybody, just a quick update. The new build tool I have been working on is now in master, https://github.com/demizer/aur-zfs. With it you can build and package two different groups of packages one for aur and one for split. Again, building the split packages is more efficient. I still have a lot of work to be done, but it is progressing. I will be adding git, dkms, and lts packages after I setup my repo. My next step is to add unofficial repository support to my build tool so I can easily setup a repo with precompiled binaries. I will be hosting the repo on my website at http://demizerone.com/archzfs. Initially it will only be for 64bit code since the ZOL FAQ states that ZOL is very unstable with 32bit code due to memory management differences in Solaris and Linux. I will notify you all in the future when that is ready to go.
    @MilanKnizek, Yes updating is a pain. ZFS itself is hard-coded to linux versions at build time. The ZFS build tool puts the modules in "/usr/lib/modules/3.5.6-1-ARCH/addon/zfs/", and this the primary reason it has to be rebuilt each upgrade, even minor point releases. Nvidia for example puts their module in "/usr/lib/modules/extramodules-3.5-ARCH/", so minor point releases are still good and the nvidia package doesn't need to be re-installed. A possible reason for ZOL to be hard-coded like this because ZOL is still technically very beta code.
    I do have a question for the community, does anyone use ZFS on a 32bit system?
    Thanks!

    rc11 doesn't support Linux 3.6; there are some patches on GitHub that might apply against it (I've not done it myself), see:
    https://github.com/zfsonlinux/spl/pull/179
    https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/pull/1039
    Otherwise downgrade to Linux 3.5.x or linux-lts and wait for rc12.

    @vroomanj, I plan on working on the git packages this weekend. All I have to figure out if it is going to be based on an actual git clone or if its just going to be the download links you provided. They are pretty much the same, but i'm not really clear what the Arch Package Guidelines say about this yet. Also, I don't think the current packages in AUR now should be based off of git master. They should be based off of the ZOL stable releases (rc10, rc11, ...). That's why I am making git packages so people can use them if they want to upgrade to the latest kernel and the stable release hasn't been made yet. As is the case currently.

    Did you read the comments, either on the AUR page or in the output that you posted? They explain it.

  • Catalyst won't install also floppy not mounted with 2008.04 new ISOs

    For some reason or another the latest realeased Iso after (Don't Panic)  the one that came out recently 2008.04 in May I cannot set up my floppy even though I identitfied it right and catalyst won't install I did pacman -Syu to install the files it required but it wouldn't complete the transaction due to some conflicting files. I'll show you what I mean.
    This is my floppy line in fstab that was right on in the Don't Panic release:
    /dev/fd0   /media/floppy    vfat          defaults,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    This is what happens under new realease
    [krazybastid@krazy89709874976 ~]$ mount /media/floppy
    mount: special device /dev/fd0 does not exist
    [krazybastid@krazy89709874976 ~]$
    So I try to install catalyst:
    [krazybastid@krazy89709874976 ~]$ sudo pacman -S catalyst

    So I try pacman -Syu

    Well I'm stuck is there a way out of this cause I can't even use the (Don't Panic) CD now without running into more update problems.

    Greetings. While trying to upgrade I got the following error
    $sudo pacman -Syuf
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date
    :: Starting full system upgrade...

    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: ipw3945: requires kernel26<=2.6.25-0
    pl help.
    Note: with lspci | grep Wireless I noted that my  wireless is intel PRO 2200 chip set. and in the modules ipw2200 was there for loading. I could not figure out why ipw3945 hinters the upgrade problem. I removed ipw3945  with sudo pacman --remove ipw3945 and removed the ignorepkg in rc.conf. made a try with pacman -Syu for a system upgrade operation.
    After a completion of about 360 MB of updates down load it failed to update the system. It is late night. I decided to give a try with yaourt. This time with yaourt -Syf sytem got updated.
