Solaris 10 - x86 - migrating from Linux - question?

Hi,
We have a C++ application that uses libpcap to read packets as they arrive on the interface. We are trying to set up a more secure environment on Solaris 10 x86 by having this application run inside of a Solaris Container. The application runs properly when run on the machine outside of the container. However, when we try to start the application when inside the container, the call to pcap_open_live fails with the error "'/dev/iprb0:1: No such file or directory'".
Is there a way in which we can set up the Solaris Container so that it can have access to the interfaces (devices) in /dev?

No. Packet capturing is not working in non-global zones.
You can not manipulate network interfaces in a non global zones at all. You can add some types of devices to the non global zones, but no network adapters.
All ip filtering, packet capturing business can only be done in the global zone.

Imre

  • Migrating from Linux Mail to Exchange 2013

Is there any official documents of the Best Practices of migrating Linux Mail (Exim) to Exchange 2013?
I appreciate any help that I can receive. Thanks in advance.
    My best regards.

    Hi,
Basic on my research, I’m afraid that there is no tool for this kind of migration, we may need to start from PST file.
We can use Microsoft Exchange PST Capture to search for PST files on computers in your organization and then import those files to mailboxes in your organization, for your reference:

  • Migrating from Linux 9.2.0.3 to Solaris 10.2.

    Hello,
Which method is best when moving from Linux platform, db 9.2.0.3 to Solaris, db 10.2. I have tried in exp and imp but it will require shutting down production db for more than 8 hours. I am now thinking of replication. Is this a better method? How difficult is it to replicat from Linux, 9.2.0.3 to Solaris, 10g db? What are the gotchas going across platforms and from 9i to 10g. Thank you.

You need to downgrade in the sequence you performed the upgrade. So you need to go back to version 10.2.0.x and then to 9.2.0.x.
BTW, do you mean 10.2.0.1 here? There was no version like 10.2.0.0.

  • Migrating from Linux server to SL 10.6 server

Anybody know a way to get my users/groups from a linux server to SL 10.6 server? It would be a pain to re-do by hand, esp. passwords.

Just take the G4 along with you & decide what you want to migrate from it to the new MBP. As mentioned in Apple Retail Store - One to One, a primary feature of this service is transferring your files from your old computer to your new one for you.

  • Migration from linux intel 32bit to linux AMD_Opteron 64bit

    Hi,
I'm trying to duplicate an instance from a 10.2.0.2 intel 32 server to an opteron 64bit (10.2.0.3).
    Which are the options?
If I take an Rman Backup and I try the Restore I can't open the destination db.
If I issue a startup migrate and then I run the catupgrd.sql script I get the error
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION version_script
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: [56319], [], [], [], [], [], [],
    ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [56319]
If this depends from the platform migration, maybe the only option is to use export/import?
    Thanks.

Hi, the OS is RedHat3 on the source database and RedHat5 on the destination database.
I would have preferred to use the backup/restore but, since I have found several issues on the migration from 32bit to 64bit, I think I will use the export/import path to move data.

  • Retain SAMBA permissions while migrating from linux to solaris 10 x86

    Hello,
We are migrating a system from Redhat to Solaris 10 x86 and this has brought up a question on how we can restore our SAMBA files and retain our permissions that are associated by the users name rather then their numeric ID(UID/GID). So far my research hasnt produced anything that gives a solid answer to how we do this and is it even possible.
The problem is that Windows user and group accounts are mapped locally per host by default. That mapping is defined as the accounts are referenced, so unless there is a way to guarantee the order of accounts being referenced, the mappings from Windows SIDs to Unix UIDs will be different between old and new.
If the data restoration option we choose for the new server is naive and restores only by UID and GID, the permissions in the ACLs will not map to the correct Windows accounts. We either must find a restoration option which restores permissions by name rather than ID or we must create a script which can automate pushing the ACLs into the restored filesystem correctly by name.
Initially I thought ufsdump could handle this but we are on ext3 filesystem going to vxfs. I have read a little on star but havent heard about it before. Has anyone used star for backup/restore for the purpose of retaining ACL ownership/permissions? It seems like its an old utility, maybe not used much anymore. Does anyone have a utility they have used for this purpose?
    Your help is much appreciated!!

The problem is that Windows user and group accounts are mapped locally per host by default. That mapping is defined as the accounts are referenced, so unless there is a way to guarantee the order of accounts being referenced, the mappings from Windows SIDs to Unix UIDs will be different between old and new.Is there anyway that you can sanitize and post a small snippet of what's going on with the mapping files? I think I can follow this but I'm a bit confused by the username/UID thing since usually if a username is defined in /etc/passwd than the files will display the username. If a username is not defined in /etc/passwd then the ls command will revert to just showing the numbers which I take it is what you don't want to happen.
If you could also sanitize and post even one of the acl's that might help clear up that portion of the problem as well.

    OS - RHEL AS 4.5 32 bit
New Version will be : in Server YYYY

    Hi;
1- Installl Redhat Enterprose Linux 5 64 bit ( need to confirm the 5.x version ) as the current DB 10.2.0.5 will not certified for RHEL6Correct only 11.2.0.3 db version is certified with RHEL6.
In oracle certification I can see the certified 64 bit RHEL OS for 10.2.0.5 is RHEL5 ("Oracle Database 10.2.0.5.0 is certified on Linux x86-64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5"). Please let me know the last supported version in RHEL5 which I can go for. I could not find anything about it. I am thinking, I can go for RHEL 5.5 and in the same OS can I upgrade DB 10.2.0.5 to version 11.2.0.3 after the migration.?The latest version is 5.8 and you can download it from e-delivery.
PS:Please dont forget to change thread status to answered if it possible when u belive your thread has been answered, it pretend to lose time of other forums user while they are searching open question which is not answered, thanks for understanding

  • Migrating from Linux to Snow Leopard - how to migrate mboxes

We are moving from a Linux (Fedora) environment to a mac running Snow Leopard server and will need to migrate a couple of our imaped mailboxes - inbox, sent mail, and some folder for a couple of account holders.
We have a mail server that has a problem. We want to replace the entire server (which serves the mail now to everyone) with the new mac server. Same name, same ip address, same everything.
What is the best way for us to do this to ensure that we don't loose any data - and we have a lot (years of company critical messages) of it. This is critical for at least 2 of our key people who must have audit trails of incoming and sent emails for contractual reasons.
Is there some way we can migrate the existing mailboxes over to the new mac server? This is a fedora core linux setup with standard sendmail running with dovecot for imap - if that helps.
Thanks in advance - we are under a major time crunch.

If you mean on a per user bases, then the answer is probably yes... here is an example from http://pwet.fr/man/linux/commandes/imapsync :
To synchronize the imap account buddy on host imap.src.fr to the imap account max on host imap.dest.fr (the passwords are located in too files /etc/secret1 for buddy, /etc/secret2 for max) :
    imapsync --host1 imap.src.fr --user1 buddy --passfile1 /etc/secret1 \
    --host2 imap.dest.fr --user2 max --passfile2 /etc/secret2
Then, you will have buddy's mailbox updated from max's mailbox.

You'll have to skip the authAuthority entries. One of them is for the password server, where Apple stores passwords, and the other obviously is for Kerberos. I think I read somewhere that you can actually use the userPassword: field if you put a plaintext password in there. I'd be interested to know if {crypt} or {md5} would work, like they do in regular OpenLDAP deployments.
Once you have the users imported into OpenDirectory, you can create the password server and Kerberos entries using the Server Admin tool, although this might require changing the password.
As for email, are you already using a recent version of Cyrus IMAP? If so, you just need to copy the files over (after importing users). If not, there are scripts floating around that can convert email from other systems to Cyrus.
    Cheers
    Brent

  • Migrating from Ubuntu - Question on ArchLinux install

    Hello,
I am attempting to migrate a computer from ubuntu to ArchLinux. I'm not new to linux, but I am unfamiliar with ArchLinux. I've Installed ArchLinux from the wiki instructions without much problem, and when I reboot, it sends me to the command line. Is ArchLinux nothing more than a command line OS? It appeared to have a GUI (like nautilus for Ubuntu) in some pictures that I have seen. Is there a command to start up ArchLinux GUI from the prompt?

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.
Ok, just trying to get Xorg window manager to start right now. When I try "startx" I get several errors. 6 EE errors.
(EE) Failed to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "freetype" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "kbd" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "mouse" (module does not exist, 0)
    (EE) VESA(0): No matching modes
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
    (log stuff here)
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2):  unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3):  Server error.
I think I've read every existing wiki and forum from google on this, and none seem to cover my exact problem. I created a xorg.conf file with hwd, but still startx does not start. Any thoughts?

  • Fast Solaris 10 Migration for Busy Admins

    More Quickstarts Needed!
Is there a better way to get started with Solaris 10 than drudging through the "Solaris 10 System Administrator Collection" at docs.sun.com?

Unfortunately, I don't see many other such guides on Solaris 10 user & admin topics. Are there any other good resources for admins migrating from Linux/xBSD?
Since I learned almost everything I know from the guides on tldp.org long before O'Reilly or Sams got involved, I'm not expecting a "Teach Yourself Solaris 10 in 10 Seconds" book.
I'm assuming that the docs.sun.com collections are meant more as reference manuals than "cover to cover" readers. Any suggestions on how I can migrate with the least amount of pain... and without the $2000 training seminars (http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/SA-100-S10.xml)?
