Solaris 11.1 pkg output
Hi All,
On Solaris 11.1, if the publisher is to pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release, I see the following output:
root@sun1:~# pkg list -afv entire

Verifying we can reach the solaris IPS repository.
This may take a couple of minutes if it is not currently reachable.
solaris IPS publisher is reachable
Error: //solaris/[email protected],5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.0 not found in

The Error is documented in the following MOS note:
OPS Center 12c Installation Fails With Error:
//solaris/[email protected],5.11-0.175.0.0.0.2.0 Not Found [ID 1470879.1]
I followed the instructions but it doesn't seem to solve the problem.
The issue is also documented in Release Notes:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27363_01/doc.121/e25144/toc.htm#autoId6
Under the section: Using Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12.1.1.0.0 With Oracle Solaris 11.1
Please let me know if there is a fix to this problem.
Regards.
Hi,
The output from the pkg list -afv for your local repository shows that it only has the final build of Oracle Solaris 11.1. What you need to do is either populate your local repository with the Oracle Solaris 11 11/11 packages or use the Oracle repositories. Probably the easiest way is to set up your own local repository by downloading the ISO image from the http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/downloads/index.html. Note increment ISO images for the bug fixes are available in MOS as well.
Hope that helps,
pete

You can still boot on an previous BE if this one was created. -
Following my posts on LU on Solaris 10, I now need to do the same on Solaris 11.2. The two machines are brand new - not being used in anger.
I saw the useful blog https://blogs.oracle.com/oem/entry/using_ops_center_to_update
One of our machines has the following:
beadm list
BE Active Mountpoint Space Policy Created
solaris - - 12.99M static 2014-06-21 05:39
solaris-1 NR / 25.76G static 2014-09-10 12:00
solaris-1-backup-1 - - 323.0K static 2014-09-29 11:45
solaris-1-backup-2 - - 172.0K static 2014-11-12 12:26
When asked, the person who looked after the machine, he was not sure how these were created. I would like to know how do I ensure that the two boot environment are the same and if that is the case if one can be deleted. Whether the backups are required and if they are auto-generated. Essentially, I am a total newbie on Live Upgrade, but I see as the only way to apply patches and other packages.
Regards
SCHi,
please note that Live Upgrade is obsolete and isn't used on Solaris 11 and above. Solaris 11
uses pkg(1) and beadm(1M) to manage boot environments.
The output from beadm list shows the currently existing boot environments. Those environments
are created by pkg(1) when updating the system or in certain situations when destructive package
operations take place (the "-backup" environments).
Please see
Updating to Oracle Solaris 11.2
for more information on upgrading Solaris.
In your example output the solaris boot environment is most likely the result of an
initial installation. Then someone later updated the environment resulting in a new
environment solaris-1 (which is also the current boot environment). Some pkg
operations then caused some backup boot environments to be created. This is
done to make sure that a fall-back exists should there be a problem with the newly
installed packages. If you don't need to go back to that stage you can also remove them.
It is recommended to always keep a known-good boot environment around just in case.
If you are happy with the current one you can ask beadm to create such an environment
like this:
# beadm create my-known-good-be
Please note: When using the pkg command to update the system you can
also specify a custom name for the new boot environment, e.g.
# pkg update --be-name=s11.2
would name the new environment s11.2 instead of some generic name like "solaris-X".

Install solaris 10 on SPARC error
when i use the "boot cdorm" at the ok prompt to install the solaris
give the flowing output:

whyHi V
Thanks for the response.
I fixed the problem. Turns out it was because my physical memory for box is 16 gig, but my max-shm-memory was only at 6 GIG. I upped to 8 gig, and everything worked.
I'm sure you were going to tell me to do just that! I found another post that explained it.
Thanks!

prtconf is reporting total amount as well.

pls tell me whatYou need to either use the full path - /opt/sfw/bin/rpm or add /opt/sfw/bin/ to the path statement in your profile.
If you are trying to run from the /opt/sfw/bin/ directory then you do the following:
# ./rpm
RPMs are mainly for Linux. I have seen only a couple RPMs for Solaris in the last 15 years and they came from a third-party vendor. What are you trying to install??

Should they be added back?
AndrewThis is not an oversight. As MySQL 5.1 libraries are not compatible with the 5.5 version and to avoid some breaks, you must check and modify all programs and/or scripts that you use if you want to use this new version.

Solaris 10 scripts in /etc/rc2.d at boot time
On Solaris 8, boot our scripts in /etc/rc2.d displayed echo to the console
and allowed "read" from the console. In Solaris 10, the input/output
from our scripts goes to msglog. How can I get these scripts to
send output and receive input to the console. (This occurs before the CDE GUI console starts)Hi
Inside the script you forward the output to /dev/console..Check whether > /dev/console is present in the script or not.

Where is 32 bit version of Solaris 11
Given the very large number of 32bit x86 machines being used in business, where is the latest Solaris 11 32bit x86 release. A large number of Corporates have no immediate intention to replace perfectly adequate and functioning hardware.
If the Oracle decision policy is to remain then where is access to the previous Soalris 11 and OpenSolaris repositories and libraries?
Edited by: user9172855 on Nov 18, 2011 8:45 AMThe Solaris 11 Express 2010.11 packages, which support 32-bit, are still in the release repository along with Solaris 11: http://pkg.oracle.com/solaris/release
However, there are no changes being made for Solaris 11 Express.

Installing Solaris 11 on SunFIre T1000 With Automated Installer Server Fail
h4. Hi
h4. A few days i am try to intall solaris 11 11/11 on our server Sunfire T1000
h4. we first upgrade the firmware of the server to

Sun-Fire-T1000 System Firmware 6.7.12 2011/07/06 20:03
Host flash versions:
OBP 4.30.4.d 2011/07/06 14:27
Hypervisor 1.7.3.c 2010/07/09 15:14
POST 4.30.4.b 2010/07/09 14:25
h4. And after we install Solaris 11 x86 on a laptop, in that we configure an AIS (Automated installer Server)
installadm list
Service Name Alias Of Status Arch Image Path
default-sparc s11-sparc on Sparc /install/images/s11-sparc
s11-sparc - on Sparc /install/images/s11-sparc
h4. We are using the default installations with a DHCP server in the Laptop
installadm list -m -p
Service Name Manifest Status
default-sparc orig_default Default
s11-sparc orig_default Default
h4. By the other side, in the sparc server (T1000) we use OBP for a WAN Boot Installation

h4. Somebody knows about this error? The chash failures indicate that either the repository you're using has corrupt content for those files, or the files are being corrupted on download. The latter is more likely, usually a result of badly-behaved http proxies.

Hi ,
I have two questions in solaris 10.
1.Is there any equivalent YUM (in linux) in solaris-10?if so , can you provide the details as to how use them to update patch?
2. equivalent of RPM ( in Linux) in solaris - 10.
ThanksHi,
1. No YUM alike on Solaris but you can use pca to manage patches -> http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/
2. pkg-config (1)- return meta information about installed libraries
pkgadd (1m)- transfer software packages to the system
pkgadm (1m)- manage packaging and patching system
pkgask (1m)- stores answers to a request script
pkgchk (1m)- check package installation accuracy
pkginfo (1)- display software package information
pkginfo (4)- package characteristics file
pkgmap (4)- package contents description file
pkgmk (1)- produce an installable package
pkgparam (1)- display package parameter values
pkgproto (1)- generate prototype file entries for input to pkgmk command
pkgrm (1m)- remove a package from the system
pkgtrans (1)- translate package format

We are running Reports on Solaris and the report output
files are owned by oracle. Is there any way we can set
up the Report Server to allow read/write permission of
the output files to specific users?
Thanks,
AlexNot sure if this is what you want but you can set the umask property in the shell that the reports server is running in. This should set the appropriate permissions for all files created by the Reports Server process.

Tcp_conn_hash_size value For Solaris 9 with SunOne Directory 5.2
I'm really confused. The default value for tcp_conn_hash_size in Solaris 8 and 9 is 512, I have verified this with documentation and ndd commands on various systems. A contractor who assisted with our SunOne Directory 5.2 deployment recommended that the value be set to 256 and when I checked the Blueprint book, LDAP in the Solaris Operating Environment, the output from idsktune printed in the book indicates that 256 is the default. However, when I run idsktune on a Solaris 8 or Solaris 9 system, no mention is made of "decreasing" this default value. Why would someone want to decrease this value?
This looks like it may be a bug where the original default value got hard coded or something. You're right that it's probably more likely you'll want to increase tcp_conn_hash_size, perhaps 8192 or higher if you need to support a high number of concurrent connections.
