[SOLVED] Audacious UI widget components?

hi, as you can see on the screenshot at http://audacious-media-player.org/ it shows the player with album art and lyricwiki support in the same window, I activated the plugins but the album art and lyrics appears in separate windows for me, not good having to click on one window to see album art and on another to see lyrics. I guess im missing the UI widget components but I have no idea how to install them, I have both audacious and audacious plugins installed.
Thanks in advance for the help!

    Arch Linux 64
    i5 -2500k  / 8GB Ram /  Nvidia with the closed source drivers
    OpenBox
    LXPanel
    compton-git (from AUR)
I am running into a strange recurring problem for some time now.
Even though running and launching applications is fast, various GUI components of individual apps are lagging.
For example moving through the preferences tabs of Pidgin, or preferences tabs of firefox, or changing between open tabs in Firefox( does not happen in Chrome) or generally using the GUI dialogs of certain applications might take 2-3 seconds from the time I clicked to the gui component to the time the change occurs (for example changing from one preference tab to another).
I do not have any performance issues generally in the system, except those gui components that are painfully slow.
Things i have tried so far:
-Initially i thought it was only manifesting in firefox so I reseted the profile but that did not improve the situation.
-I thought it might have to do with GTK so I deleted the .gtk-bookmarks from home dir (in order to be recreated) but that did not improve the situation. I still believe it might have something to do with GTK.
    any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

After more experimentation I am now fairly certain that the issue is caused by compton.
I looked into the bugs reported for compton and apparently there are some issues caused by it when used with the nvidia driver having set the backend option to "glx".
With the following compton config it seems to be working correctly with no slowness.
    backend = "xr_glx_hybrid"
    vsync = "opengl-swc"
    glx-no-rebind-pixmap = true
    glx-no-stencil = true
    paint-on-overlay = true
    unredir-if-possible = true
Note that the backend "xr_glx_hybrid" config option is only available(for now) from the "compton-git" package and not "compton" package.
I do not mark it yet as "Solved" as I want to use it for sometime to be certain.

Well changing back to my normal theme after starting audacious works. So that's a plus. I still don't get how it affected steam.
Or reinstalling it worked, because now Audacious is starting fine with my normal theme. This is really strange.
Okay I figured out why the errors were showing up in steam. For some reason, steam tries to open audacious as my file manager instead of nemo.

  • [SOLVED] Agar - OpenGL widget toolkit

Agar is a set of cross-platform libraries written in C/C++/Ada for graphical applications. The main library of the distribution is a widget toolkit, Agar-GUI. Agar is open source, released under a revised BSD license.
    http://libagar.org/
There is already an attempt for this package, but the maintainer himself admits that the compilation fails.

  • [SOLVED] Audacious segfaults after gtk3 3.2.2-1 update

    EDIT 2:
    Fixed upstream.
    https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=664137
    EDIT: Fixed at gtk3 3.2.2-2
    Hi,
I realized today that Audacious 3.1-2 started to segfault after the update from gtk3 3.2.1-1 to 3.2.2-1 (Everything pacman -Syyu'ed)
1 - Press 'F' to open Add Files... dialog
    2 - Browse arbitrary folders
    3 - Segfault after opening 5-6 folders
No problems with playback whatsoever, hence I posted this here.
Going back to gtk3 3.2.1-1 fixes the problem.
    No errors reported by audacious.
    gdb:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
    in g_type_check_instance_is_a () from /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0
I have not seen anything reported to audacious or to gtk developers. I am away from home for the next week and do not have a decent Internet connection; so I refrained from reporting the bug for the moment. I know it is annoying when people file bugs and disappear.
    Can anyone reproduce the problem?
    Thanks...

Here you go: audacious, gtk3, glib2 with debug.
Btw, it looks like I sometimes get different backtraces, I have seen 3 variations. I include 2 here, I forgot to log the other one and cannot get it again.
    http://pastebin.com/hNLbGPTG
    http://pastebin.com/dcKTb9bC
To reproduce, I do exactly as I say in the first post:
1 - Open the dialog to add files to the playlist. (Hit 'F' on the keyboard, or use the Plus button at the lower left corner of the playlist -- with Winamp skin)
2 - I start going in to random folders and possibly adding files. Adding files is not necessary, just going into a folder, then going back to the parent, and repeating this is enough. The dialog is set to stay open after adding a file.
3 - Crash comes randomly. Sometimes when I descend into the very first folder. Other times I need to go back and forth 5-10 times.
EDIT: Just now, I could reproduce this on a second Arch Linux installation.

  • [Solved] [audacious-git] dependency question

Hi, I maintain audacious-git and audacious-plugins-git and have a question:
    audacious-plugins-git should be a dependency of audacious-git.
On the other side audacious-git should be a makedependency of audacious-git.
This is the case for the packages from [extra] (of course without -git)
How is it now possible to compile audacious / audacious-plugins if both packages are not installed?
And how should I handle this in the PKGBUILD?
    Thanks for an answer
    Radioactiveman
Last edited by Radioactiveman (2011-06-24 12:32:59)

The audacious-plugins package need only be a dependency of audacious for usability reasons: it is not required to build it. So it is easy to "manually" bootstrap by first compiling an audacious PKGBUILD without the audacious-plugins dependency. In the AUR, of course, that's not so handy, and I believe the best solution to your issue is to have audacious-plugins-git as an optdepends (not a depends) in the audacious-git PKGBUILD, and remind your users that they very likely want to install it.

  • [SOLVED] Audacious with no sound engines

Just installed audacious using pacman (pacman -S audacious), but upon start I haven't found any sound engines in it's preferences (no ALSA, no OSS or PulseAudio), thus causing the player not to be able to play any sound That's weird because the support for at least ALSA should be present 'out of box'.
Anyway, please advise how do I turn ALSA support on in Audacious. What package should be installed?
    Thanks in advance!

schmoemi wrote:Does make installing audacious without any plugins any sense? Should not audacious-plugins be a dep to the audacious package?
I second that. I found it strange that I had to install the plugins separately to make Audacious work (plus, I had to look up this thread to find out why Audacious wasn't working).

  • [SOLVED] Audacious displays incorrect song times

For seemingly random songs, Audacious displays the correct time when I load them on the playlist - but when I click on it and it starts playing (let's say a 4 minute song) the song time will suddenly change to something like 26 minutes...  o_O  For other songs, this doesn't happen at all.  Very odd.

    OK did several things:
    1. I had to move my old audacious folder in ~/.config/audacious. When I ran audacious2 -i list I got nothing at first. After moving, a new audacious folder was created and I got the list (it tells you what ui options you have). Next problem - it needed a playlist to run. So I copied over a playlist from my old folder.
    2. It is now called gtkui and not newui. So run audacious2 -i gtkui and it will be OK.

in the case of the wifi widget, the returned value is a table.
so to call the values i was looking for it should be formatted:
    wifiwidget = wibox.widget.textbox()
    vicious.register(wifiwidget, vicious.widgets.wifi,
    function( widget, args)
    return string.format("%.8s - %sdB", args["{ssid}"], args["{sign}"])
    end, 19, "wlp2s0")

  • No Window in Widget Browser or Adobe Help on Mac, solved

I had trouble installing Air, got that solved, then found Widget Browser and Adobe Help would seem to start, but never show a window, and they'd "quit unexpectedly" when quitting.
Noted that, when logging into a different account, the applications worked fine.
This was solved by deleting the Macromedia folder from ~/Library/Preferences under the troublesome account, then relaunching the Widget Browser and Adobe Help applications. Relaunching recreated the Macromedia folder with some new subfolders and files, including ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/www.macromedia.com/bin/airappinstaller/airappinstaller, among others.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
    Adobe Air 2 build 230
    Widget Browser 2
    CS5.5

  • I am so torn

I just received delivery of my refurb hi-res powerbook to be used as a backup system and it looks great, it looks like what you would get if you bought one brand new plus apple threw in a 100GB 7.2RPM drive instead of the advertised 80GB (5.4RPM). Now, problem is i've been told i can only keep one
Both machines serve my needs without a doubt easily, but i'm torn between which one to keep. I'd keep them both but unfortunately the folks took delivery of the PB and want to know why i'm keeping two machines. I told them one is meant as a backup but they aren't buying that and say i must get rid of one immidiately.
Only gripe with the PB is the line issue which is hard to see in my version ( you have to look for it) whereas the only grip with the MBP is the infamous whine issue although solved by the widget solution.
To be fair the MBP has the edge (obviously) but the novelty of having the last G4 machine (which i think will boost resale price) is tempting. I know the resale value of the new intel machines won't be as great as the PowerPC products as product revisions will become very prolific- "why would i wanna get a Dual Core 2GHz for 800 bucks when i can get a Dual Core 4GHz for 1200 bucks" will be future reasoning.
Anyway enough rant and i know this is not your problem but any advice would be appreciated.

I don't really see the PB G4 holding value. I kept my 1.25Ghz PB as a legacy machine for the oddball classic programs I have that Rosetta won't run or run well. But for day-to-day use the MBP beats it hands down. If I had to chose between one or the other I'd hand over my PB with no tears shed. For one thing the MBP doesn't taunt me with spinning beach balls every two seconds.
Historically speaking only two Macs have held anything close to what could be considered value...the Cube and the 20th Anniversary Mac. Both are considered collector's items to an extent. I don't see the PB gaining cult status anymore than the last OS 9 bootable PB did. It's just going to become an old obsolete machine like old computers do.
