[Solved] Broadcom BCM43142 Network controller - can't get WiFi to work
Hi all,
I'm new to Arch and I can't set up my WiFi to work properly.
Using Gnome 3 and NetworkManager, I installed the recommended driver (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl-dkms/) according to the instructions. That worked fine.
When I enable NetworkManager.service, the WiFi tries to connect. During this period it works for some seconds, but than it breaks. My Wired Connection only works when NetworkManager.service is disabled.
I even tried several ways from this and other Wikis, but none of them seem to work.
BTW, I tried Arch some weeks ago on the same machine and i got it to work, but I don't know how I did this anymore. Under ArchBang Live Media it works ootb.
I'm posting some outputs, don't know if they might be helpful (all with NetworkManager.service disabled).

Hi ewaller,
I want to connect to my own network, which is hidden.

On 'Network' page when I try to add an interface AirPort is not an option.
I only can choose from firewire, ethernet, bluetooth DUN, VPN, PPPoE or 6 to 4....
How did you fix it?

[solved] Gnome + Openbox: I simply can't get it to work.
I'm trying to replace Metacity with Openbox on a gnome desktop.
I've read the wiki entry and followed both the steps for Gnome 2.26 and 2.24 and neither of them works correctly for me.
I autologin x and my user using this script in /etc/rc.local (so no GDM is used, in case that matters)
#!/bin/bash # # /etc/rc.local: Local multi-user startup script. # su - yourusername -c 'source /etc/profile;startx'
Although I've also tried getting this working while using GDM and had the same results.
When it loads, there are no window decorations and no right click menu. The windows are drawn, but I cannot move them around, minimize, maximize, and close buttons simply don't exist.
If I try loading gnome/openbox from the GDM login screen, it tries, then reloads the login screen.
I'm trying to get this setup for my wife, any ideas?

[solved] samsung ml-2010, i can't get it to work!
hello!
is anyone here, who successfully prints with a samsung ml-2010? i've everything (installing splix, installing samsung driver, google...) but nothing!
i can send a print jo, but the printer does not do anything!
please help...
thanks, mfg iggy
Last edited by iggy (2007-10-16 22:10:39)I bought one of these about a week ago and am really pleased.
1) Don't bother with the samsung driver. It may be good but it installed cups 1.1. Run the uninstall script if you haven't done so.
2) I didn't even try the gutenprint drivers (maybe the ml4500 is compatible?)
3) I did try the foomatic ml-2010 driver which is excellent 600x600dpi
4) I settled on the splix driver which does 1200x600 dpi and is even better on gradients (I couldn't see any difference between the two drivers when printing text)
Does any printer work on your system?
As "root", check kcontrol -> peripherals -> printers. Under the "print manager" tab, go to "configure manager" and check that under "cups server" you have "localhost" and "631", not some lock file. -
Can't get WiFi to work on E1200
My 1200 v 1.0 was working fine until I tried to link a wireless internet camera. Apparently I screwed something up in the setup such that I've lost my WiFi connection to my laptop and one wireless desktop. Fortunately my wired connection still works. I've carefully tried to restore my system following the online procedure and while the setup looks OK it doesn't link. In the process I have reset the router to the factory setting several times and have installed the latest firmware version. I contacted Linksys support and using remote diagnosis they reached a point where they said that something was wrong with my computer and to investigate further there would be a fee charged. I balked at that since I had tried the setup from several different wired Window 7 and XP computers. That dialog was severely compromised by my difficulty in understanding the dialect of the tech support rep. Any help would be appreciated
Solved!
Go to Solution. If wired internet is working ok with the router then that is good. Since you are still able to see the network, then router is broadcasting ok. YOu might have changed either the network name or the wireless security mode or the wireless security. What you need to do here is to remove the preferred networks or saved networks from your laptops/wireless devices so that it will prompt for the wireless password. If you have phones or mobile devices you need to choose Forget Network.

How can I get wifi to work at home?
How do I get iphone working with home wifi?
First, have you gone to Settings > WiFi > Choose a Network and chosen your network and then entered the acceess information?
You may need to power off and on the iPhone, then do a soft reset by holding both the power and Home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider, and it restarts. Sometimes you also have to completely power down the router and power it back up, give it a few minutes to reestablish the base IP address, then power up the iPhone and choose the network, etc. -
Can't get wifi to work properly since upgrade to ios 8.1.3 on ipad
wifi works sometimes...has happened since upgrade to 8.1.3. Is there any fix for this problem and is
Apple doing anything about it? Tired of waiting....One thing I would try is Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings. Please note that all wifi passwords will be deleted but not apps, music, photos etc. will. I had this problem with my iPad Mini and this worked!

I can't get wifi to work on 4g ipod.
My son got it at game stop. It pickes up the netgear network we have wifi on at the house, but only shows grey icon, not blue. I have got on itunes and did the update to ios6...didn't work.......so the next recomondation was to reload it again nothing. Any help, do i need to take this thing back to the store?
Sounds like this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Or take it back to Game Stop
If not then:
Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Solved network can't get wifi working on acer 571G
Hi I have been fiddlin for past day on the issues with not luck. The problem was initially I can't get wifi connection to work, ethernet is fine. I am using dhcpcd and networkmanager and the kde plasma applet. I have also used nmtui. Networkmanager picks up available connections and I have entered correct password but no good. Can't get wifi activated. Wired connection is fine. I will give you some details of both hardware and network.

Last edited by leonax (2014-11-19 23:15:09)After another day of trying I think I have NetworkManager working but not sure how good, especially when I don't have a clue what I am doing I have read, re read wireless and networkmanager wikis and it was not until I looked for a step by step guide that I found this http://evilshit.wordpress.com/2012/09/1 … th-gnome3/. Although for gnome it is much the same for kde where you install kde plasma nm-applet. In this article it did specically state to remove all dhcpcd services.
In the NetworkManager wiki I did state " Note: You must ensure that no other service that wants to configure the network is running; in fact, multiple networking services will conflict. You can find a list of the currently running services with systemctl --type=service and then stop them." However it was not until I read the evilshit article that I found out dhcpcd had to be removed. For newbies wikis need to be more specific. Enspecially I think setting up ethernet and wireless connections.

have an airplay enabled AV Receiver - how do i set up Airplay
I have a Yamaha RX-V673 which is Airplay enabled, but i can't get Airplay to work either on my Mac book or my iphone. The receiver is connected to my network and i can control it using the iphone App and via the web browser option.
Do I need Apple TV or to change some settings somewhere?
Any help would be greatly appreciatedYou are making some progress with setup of wireless network. Apparently there is reliability problem with the wireless connection. Perhaps you want to refer to following Apple support documents and start tweaking parameters in the router to improve the reliability. I used to have third-party routers such as Belkin and Netgear but switched to Apple Airport routers (Time Capsule then Airport Extreme for now) because of incompatibility issues whenever Apple upgrade Mac OS X. But since Apple develops Airplay protocol as alternative to Bluetooth for wireless audio/video streaming (with much better bandwidth) and must be deployed in any wireless network, there is no reason third-party routers not working for Airplay protocol.

The wifi at my school isn't very good. And I can't send iMessages through it. It works for some apps like score center and my radar app, but doesn't work for other apps like clash of clans and iMessage. How can I get it to work on my school wifi. I have an iPhone 4S on AT&T and iOS 7.04
In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first. -
Network : How can I get the name of all computers in the lan ?
Hi.
Network : How can I get the name or the IP of all computers in the lan ?Easiest way to find all IPs would be to scan the network. Ping every possible IP in the network and all IPs that replied to the ping exist.
Since I don't know how to do a ping in Java, I would scan for some Ports used by OS Services.
Since I don't know which ports are used by windows, I think you should look for a ping class (or library).
Scanning all ports for every IP in a class C network shouldn't take too long. And after finding one port you don't have to try the other ports for that IP, since it has to be online ;) -
I can't get WiFi sync to work - connected to university network
I am currently connected (both my iPhone and Mac) to my universities wireless network and I can't get WiFi Sync to work. It doesn't even show up in my iTunes (my iPhone). Everything is updated.
You're a mouthy little f**king c*nt aren't you. Learn how to spell! You are "sopost" to have a fully functioning brain before you attempt to use an Apple product, so just return it to the store, tell them that you are too much of a f**king ******* to upgrade the ipod, and then you can go back to your life of welfare checks and unemployment.

[SOLVED] I can't get virtual hosts working. What's wrong?
What I've decided to do is try to set up each domain name in the user folder to whom it belongs (for example: /home/username/somedomain.com/htdocs). I can't get it to work though. I keep getting an error saying that there's no index file (although there is) or that the location isn't readable (although it is). I'm trying to make it so that if the domain name matches with a virtual host section in httpd-vhosts.conf that a specific DocumentRoot will be loaded for that domain, etc. But, if the domain name points to my server but doesn't match, then I want the default location to work. I can't seem to make this work.
This is my http.conf:
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"

DocumentRoot "/home/normaluser/somedomain.com/htdocs"
ErrorLog "/home/normaluser/somedomain.com/log/error_log"
CustomLog "/home/normaluser/somedomain.com/log/access_log" common
</VirtualHost>
So, for example, I want it to be so that if I visit http://45.117.5.40 that it'll show the stuff ftom /srv/http/default/htdocs but if the domain name matches somedomain.com then I want the server to show the content from /home/normaluser/somedomain.com/htdocs.
What currently happens is that if I visit http://45.117.5.40 or somedomain.com, they both show the same content from /srv/http/default/htdocs.
If I comment out the first VirtualHost section, then everything stops working and I see the default "Access forbidden!" message.
What am I doing wrong?
Last edited by trusktr (2012-04-13 06:15:41)I fixed it. In case any newbs come across this, I had to add a new <Directory> section for the DocumentRoot of the virtual host. Simply adding the VirtualHost entry in the vhosts file isn't enough.
For example, for the "somedomain.com" vhost in the example above to work, I added this to http.conf:
#This must match with the same location as DocumentRoot in httpd-vhost.conf.
<Directory "/home/normaluser/somedomain.com/htdocs">
#Put whatever directives you want in here
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
Let me know if you need any clarification.
