[SOLVED] can't play any multimedia file, fresh install msi wind

hi! i have now a pretty much working system i installed mplayer and alsa, and have a working xorg, i configured alsa with alsaconf and it says that the card was found and i can now change levels with alsamixer the thing is that everytime a want to play a media file, say an mp3, avi, mpg, every kind of media file, mplayer says "Starting playback..." and the do nothing, i tryed vlc too, it shows the position bar like its playing but nothiing happends and then if you want to close it the only way to stop them is via htop, not even a sudo killall mplayer/vlc do the trick, dont know if its a misconfiguration or a alsa/kernel bug, and i think that i have so less controls in alsamixer/amixer, because i don't have a mic audio level for example, i only have a "mono" Master and PC Speaker

A few days ago, x264 was updated through pacman. Ever since that update I have been unable to watch video over the web. VLC won't generate sound. Flash video freezes firefox and opera. Here are some links to threads about it (also a link to the bug page where it has been assigned for a fix.). Maybe this is what is causing your problem as well??

Most users who have had a problem opening Office files with the iWork apps after upgrading to Snow Leopard have the problem fixed by updating to the latest versions. For iWork '08 that is Pages 3.0.3 & Numbers 1.0.3. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '08 or iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '08 or iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '08 or '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

[Solved] Can't mount former /home in fresh installed Arch_X86-64

Hi,
Due to some problems I've decided to fresh install my Arch. During the fresh install I've created a new (temp) ext3 /home partition on USB memory stick and configured my new fstab to mount the former home as "old_home".
Although I can read that partition (and open files in it) while running a live ubuntu CD, Arch refuses to mount that partition (see terminal output below) maybe thinking it's ext4?

my /old_home resides on sdb3, its UUID in fstab is CORRECT, and as you can see blkid recognizes it as ext4 -I'll recheck this, because I remember it's ext3.
BTW can I cause a permanent damage to that partition if I modify fstab to ext4 for that partition and try?
My fstab has been automatically created during installation (except for the ntfs-3g entries)...

Could you please specify how exactly did you transfer Acrobat from one MAC to other.
You might need to deactivate the software from your old machine and then activate it on the new one with the same serial number (for Acrobat license) or Adobe credentials (for Acrobat subscription).
If you have done the same way, then let me know if you are able to open Acrobat itself.
Do you get any specific error message while opening a PDF?

HT1933 My new computer has been authorized, but I can't play any of my purchased songs in itunes. What do I do to play, I get an error message that original files cannot be found.

My new HP ENVY 23 TOUCHSMART PC has been authorized for itunes, but I can't play any of my purchased itunes songs. When I try to play a purchased song in my itunes library, I get an error message prompt stating that the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. When I check for available downloads it states that all downloads have been made. Ironically, all my movie purchases play fine, but the songs do not play. What do I have to do to play my purchased songs?

The 'unable to locate' message means that you don't have those music files on that computer, or that they are not where iTunes is expecting them to be. How did you get the entries for those tracks in your new computer's iTunes ?

You may also be able to re-download them from the store (checking for available downloads only checks for items that have not yet been downloaded, not for past purchases) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (re-downloading music isn't possible in all countries). You may need to delete them form your library first (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message), otherwise iTunes will assume that you still have them somewhere and won't let you re-download them.

iTunes has never been able to play FLAC. You may have been using a third party plugin which enabled this and you will have to check if they have updated. Alternatively the closest to FLAC in iTunes is Apple Lossless. You will have to use a third party tool such as XLD to convert from FLAC to ALE.

I am having few avi video files which having (avi.avi) extension i couldn't figure out how its occured(they all video files captured from samsung galaxy note,and appeared noraml avi files but became avi.avi i tried removing one extension,eventhough it says having one extension when you look in to the properties of that file you can see avi.avi ,the problem is eventhough it playable in vlc sometime,when i try to import to premiere pro -it says the file is corrupted.

Can't play any media on 10.6.4!

Yikes! All of a sudden, in the last day or two, I've lost the ability to play ANY media file on my mac mini with 10.6.4! I've downloaded some video from my iPhone 4: the video is there, I can scrub to any point in the video but when I click Play, it flashes briefly to Pause, then the icon reverts back to play. I click play in iTunes, I see the indicator that iTunes should be playing the song, the play button changes to pause but the slider never moves, the music never plays!
I'm posting this here because I don't think it's specific to any one application. I move a video from the iPhoto archive to the desktop and it still won't play. I can scrub within the file in QT Player, but it won't play!
No new downloads of note, though I did upgrade the mini's memory from 2 gb to 4 at roughly the same time. Everything else seems to be working normally.
Would appreciate any insights! I've restarted and repaired disk permissions.

Turned out the problem wasn't QT at all. I did some additional investigation after I posted my query and discovered that, in the Sound control panel, NO devices were listed. I knew that was a big problem, and likely related to my memory upgrade in the mini a few nights before. Sure enough, it turned out that I'd failed to connect the little copper colored strip you see when the lid of the mini is popped up. Problem solved. Mac mini memory modders beware!

Can't play any music or videos after 7.4.3.1 upgrade

Any body seen this type of problem after the update??
After upgrading to iTunes 7.4.3.1 I can't play any music on my PC. iTunes allows me to select the tune piece from the library, loads the player and just sits there not advancing the song.
If I try to play am MP3 through Windows Media Player same thing happens. I also can't play any of the video files I have on dick either. They play a few seconds worth, pause, then play a pit more and it repeats.

If two of your media players are doing that, we'd better have a look in your control panels.
Open your "Sounds and Audio Devices" control panel. Click the "Audio" tab.
Is the correct default device showing up in the "Sound Playback" area?

Can't import any .psd files into after effects.

Hello all.
I was using CS5 master collection without issue, for a year.
Decided to upgrade to the CS6 master collection and that’s when the problems began.
For example, I can’t import any .psd files into AE.
All files are saved in RGB mode.
The previous files were made on CS5.
I made a new .psd file in CS6 with just a couple of layers on it, couldn’t import that either.
I’ve tried Ctrl-alt-shift to delete preferences, that had limited success. I can import a file and do a little bit of work on it but as soon as I close the file down and opened it up again, it does not recognise the .psd file.
The errors I’m getting in AE are many
For example:
After Effects warning: Reading past end of file
After Effects error: Could not open intro.psd because it is not a valid Photoshop document
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message:<8104><dynamiclink><5>C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro exe
After Effects error: Not enough memory to initialise PSL
I have un-installed and re-installed many times.
I’m using Windows 8, with 32ram. Hard drives C: 100mg, D: 2 Tb
I’ve tried installing on both drives, still the same thing happens.
Does anyone out there in Adobe Land have any ideas?

It actually happens with every .psd file regardless of size or specs.
All the other programs in the CS6 master collection work fine, except for AE and PS.
I tried the small file. Created a small file, 100 px by 100px 72dpi, just with a gradient background. Same thing, not enough memory to initialise PSL.
I got the adobe cleaner, and re-installed on my system (again) .... same thing.
As long as I open AE with doing ctrl-alt-shift every single time or export layers from PS individually I seem to be OK.
The problem is far from solved, so I guess i just have to put up with workarounds.

Yes, tried that.... QuickTime/open movie/go to vcd/MPEGAV/AVSEQ01.DAT/choose....I then get error message 'Couldn't open file AVSEQ01.DAT because there was an input/output error' So then i tried oening from the desktop.
Is this a commercial VCD or a Toast burn? Asking because I know mine was made by Toast back in OS 9 when the MPEG-1 extension was included with Toast. If so, am wondering if you have an OS X compatible version of Toast installed. I have the latest version of Toast installed and was thinking it might include some component that is allowing me to open the AVSEQ01.DAT file without error. (I get the error when I attempt to open via the OS 9 VCD script in the CDI folder since I no longer have access to "Classic" mode.)

Chinese Input Method Plug-In Converter appears to convert input text to Chinese "graphic equivalents" contained in .DAT extension files. (Plug-in probably works as some sort of a text-to-graphic buffer.) It may simply be selecting this as an "application/utility of opportunity" here and generates an error when it reaches the end of the "look-up table" without finding a valid match.
In any case, I take it your VCD does not contain a QT reference movie (.MOV) that points to the AVSEQ01.DAT file as the movie resource.

Can't open any video file both by real player and ...

From just a few days i can't open any video file by real player.Then i tried to open it from video centre.Same problem.I onLy hear the sound.Even i can't open that 3gp file which was played good by both real player and v'd centre before the problem started.Please help.

I can't import any movies/files from my desktop to make an iMovie. It worked a few days ago and now I can't do anything. Also, is there a way to get rid of all the movie files that I don't need anymore? Thanks!
