[SOLVED] Chromium 32 allows ads on youtube despite ad blocker.

Does anyone else experienced this?
I have AdBlock and I have also tried with with Adblock Plus with the same result.
This is build into chromium to not block ads on youtube player but blocks ads everywhere else, at least where I'm navigating.
I've downgraded to chromium 31.0.1650.63-2 and no more ads on youtube player.
I've also added chromium in IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf .
This is very sad since I really liked chromium and chose it over firefox but when it's development is guided by google anything can happen, which is mostly bad.
Firefox does not have this issue with the same plugins/extensions.
I know there is SRWare Iron but I'd rather stay with a older version of chromium or switch to firefox.
Feel free to share you thoughts about this...
EDIT:
I just found Adblock for Youtube™
Hmm, I thought that should be integrated in a AdBlock extension and not be separated.
EDIT 2 :
EPIC FAIL !
Adblock for Youtube™ FAILS TOO !!!

It's been confirmed to be an upstream bug:
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issu … ?id=332481
Comment #22 mentions that the fix can't be easily merged into the Chromium 32/33 branches, so it might remain broken until Chromium 34.
As a workaround, you can install PPAPI Flash which is the plugin included with Google Chrome and doesn't exhibit this problem:

  • [SOLVED] Chromium + pepper = Video @ double speed

I am using the latest stable chromium, with the pepper-stable package from the AUR recommended in the Chromium wiki.
I moved to Chromium as Flash is no longer being developed for Firefox....And Firefox 26 crashes a lot, and randomly, including with all plugins removed. So It's a problem right now.
As the subject mentions....I am getting weird video issues. Usually, the video plays back at double speed, with the associated spastic audio output. Here is an example: Ref: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smCQ2g9L7PU.
This used to play fine in Firefox with the old flashplugin.
In my porting process, here is what I did:
    With no browser open:
    a)     "sudo pacman -Rs flashplugin"
a1)    Verified that flash was no longer operating in Firefox.
    b)    "sudo pacman -S chromium"
    c)    "yaourt -S chromium-pepper-flash-stable"
    d)   In chromium: "chrome://plugins" to verify that flash wasn't showing up.
Arch x86_64 (current), NVidia GTX-660, using the nvidia drivers from Arch...extra. (rev 331.20) vdpau is installed in both the 64 and lib32 variants.
I have tried disabling hardware acceleration in the pepper-flash plugin, restarted the browser and retried. I have tried enabling hardware acceleration, restarted the browser and retried.
Playback seems unaffected in either scenario, and remains unusable.
Gnash has never performed properly for me in any scenario where I've tried it. So Gnash is not an option. Gnash has a long way to go until it is ready to be a good drop-in replacement for an official "flash plugin".
So for now, I have to use the smtube for smplayer to view YouTube/major news site videos properly.
I am requesting, please, some assistance in fixing my video playback issue in Chromium.
    Sincerely and respectfully,
    Dave
PS: I'm curious, why does the firefox community appear to be sitting on their hands when Adobe has made it clear for a long time that Adobe Flash for linux is being abandoned as of 01-JAN-2014? I would have expected some really heavy programming resources to be assigned to gnash to make it better, or write some sort of wrapper for the chromium pepper plugin....for official Adobe support.
Is there another reliable flash playback mechanism that I am missing all together?

I agree with ewaller (the new html5 player for youtube is good) but to answer your question I had a similar issue with pepperflash and if I recall correctly it was related to sound issues. I do not remember which package solved the issue but here is the alsa / pulseaudio packages I have installed:

  • How can I allow ads to be displayed on one specific website?

In order the be able to use a specific website, admins will only allow continious use if I allow the page's ads to be displayed on my computer (has to do with funding the page). I do not block any on purpose, nor can I find how to unblock for this specific website. I did check 'Permissions'. For this site all cookies and pop-ups are allowed, but still no ads appear. I need to solve this issue soon, otherwise I'll get kicked off... :(

  • How can i remove Apple TV ads from youtube? It's really annoying! I want my old apple TV youtube BACK!

Can I return Apple TV beaucouse the reason i bought it was youtube without ads and now is not!

I Too find this very annoying. why is it, that each new update tends to make things worse? Do they not to any end user testing?
Besides the annoying ads (yeah I know wait for a few seconds, then skip it. But why should I have to?), they restructured the layout after you've watched a video. You used to see a list related videos. And, because it was in single column you could see more than the new graphics. Maybe I will get used to it?
The most annoying new f'eature' is what happens when you press the Pause button. A large chunk graphic with 'Resume' on it overlaying the image. Well guess why I pause videos? It's either because I want to study the current frame, or as in the case just now, some text was scrolling by so fast I couldn't read it. So I press Pause and now most of the text is covered up!
    Really Apple?
If there's a way of fixing this, it would be great.  in the meantime I guess I'd better turn off auto updates.
in a previous post about my disappointment with the IOS8 udpdate I commenTed I should get me a Samsung tablet. Well i did. The new 8.4" model very nice.  Time to start shopping for an ATV replacement. Too bad, because of all the ones I've tried, I've always preferred the ATV.

  • Firefox hangs for a few seconds when trying to pause videos or skip ads on Youtube.

    Hello all!
My problem is that YouTube sort of hangs for a few seconds when I try to pause a video or skip ahead or skip ads. The video freezes while the audio keeps playing until, after say 5 seconds, youtube finally does what I tell it to do.
This doesn't happen if the video is embedded on a different website, nor does it happen on Vimeo, Dailymotion etc. I can play YouTube videos perfectly while using Chrome, IE and a Windows 8 Youtube app I have.
After the initial freeze all commands start working very well, at least until I open a new video.
I noticed that a lot of people are having trouble with youtube while using firefox and I've tried a few things:
    - uninstalling and reinstalling flash and java
    - starting Firefox in safe mode
    - using different antivirus software
    - reinstalling Firefox
I read that this might be a problem caused by the whole Google being all buddy-buddy with Adobe thing, but I'm skeptical.
So, is there any way to get YouTube to work properly?
    Thanks!

  • How can I get Firefox to allow ads on websites?

When I load websites I don't see adds. This is most apparent on these sorts of sites (e.g. http://smashboards.com/ ) where I see a banner saying I have an ad-block enabled instead of seeing an advert. I do not have ad-block extensions. I have tried disabling all my extensions but this cause no change. I tried enabling tracking and allowing pop-ups but this also had no effect. I want ads to appear because I want to support the sites I visit.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • [SOLVED] chromium unresponsive when opening preferences

When opening preferences in chromium, a new tab appears but it is not populated and the tab becomes unresponsive. Obviously, this is a deal-breaker and I need some help in fixing it.
I observed that after opening preferences, a new ktradertest process (I use KDE) is eating 100% cpu. ktradertest is spawned by xdg-settings, which is spawned by the original chromium process, trying to determine if it is the default browser. So the root problem is that ktradertest never returns. This is reproducible by running "ktradertest text/html Application" in a terminal.
A new user account did not exhibit the same behavior. Running ktradertest through either strace or gdb also failed to reproduce the problem. Attaching to the hung process yields the following stack trace:
    #0 0x00007f4a429b81c5 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
    #1 0x00007f4a40da83ec in ?? () from /usr/lib/libnvidia-tls.so.290.10

So it seems that some configuration file is causing the problem, but I've tested every one I can think of without success.

It seems that ktradertest is part of kdelibs3 and is not included in recent releases of KDE4, which explains why I couldn't find any information about it. There was only one old application using kdelibs3, so I got rid of all KDE3 stuff and the problem is solved. Since ktradertest is not intended to be run in a modern KDE4 environment, it's understandable that it's unstable and failing in this weird way.
However, it seems that xdg-settings should not be using it. xdg-settings also calls xdg-mime, which does perform a version check and uses ktraderclient in the case of KDE4. It seems that xdg-settings should also perform that check and not use ktradertest, which probably just returns a "command not found" on most desktops.

  • Removing ads from YouTube videos on iweb

I would like to post YouTube videos on my website, but many include pop up ads that I want to eliminate since I cannot control the content of the ads. Is there a way to disable the ads so they don't show up when you click the YouTube on my published site? Thanks for the help!

Those are from Google adsense, which means that particular Youtube account hs been aproved for adsense ads wth there Youtube account and they cannot be removed except by Google. The viewer has the option of clicking the little X in the corner to not watch the ad.

  • Premiere Elements 10 won't allow rendering long Youtube videos but Youtube will except them.

Does anyone know how to disable the error that Premiere Elements gives you if you try to render a Youtube video longer than 10 or 15 minutes? My account on Youtube allows me to put up long videos (I currently have a 23 minute video I rendered with Pinnacle). I don't think it is the job of the software to stop you from doing something that is possible. It should give you a warning but you should be able to override it. Does anyone know how to get around this other than use a different preset? Most all the other presets create a much bigger lower quality file or render in a format not supported by youtube. ADOBE CAN YOU FIX THIS!

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve points out, that type of account, and its expanded duration, did not exist, when the current version of Premiere Elements was developed. Adobe went with what was available then. The expanded accounts are fairly new.
I also agree with Steve that the "fix" is to just Export/Share to the proper YouTube settings, within the parameters of your expanded account, and then just manually upload it.
My guess is that PrE 11 WILL handle the expanded accounts, but then if YouTube later expands the parameters more, the same thing will happen.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • [SOLVED] chromium install fails (imperfect solution)

I've recently installed arch on a new machine and while I am generally able to install other software from pacman I am having trouble with chromium.
    Specifically one file:
error: failed retrieving file 'gtk2-2.24.24-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz' from mirrors.acm.wpi.edu : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds
This error repeats for each mirror only to be exhausted and cause the installation to fail.
This has been occurring for over a week. I was away the entirety of last week and when I came in this morning I Synced and was still received the same error. I've searched but not encountered any similar errors. Can anyone add anything or might possibly know the status of gtk2-2.24.24?
    EDIT:
changing the pacman configuration to use wget solved this issue, but I consider this imperfect as I don't really understand why the issue was happening in the first place. Perhaps I should just be happy that it worked, but I just wish I knew "why".
Last edited by matchew (2014-07-08 15:20:26)

That unfortunately did not fix my problem. Strangely enough I am able to download it from the mirror listed in my error message without fail at 10.7 MB/s using wget...I wonder what this is. I have been able to install a few other programs without issue too since I made this original post a couple hours ago.
    EDIT:
ok, I went to the pacman conf
    vi /etc/pacman.conf
    and uncommented
    XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget -c --passive-ftp -c %u
which then used wget to download the packages. I dislike this option, and wish I understood what was occuring previously. I think I will recomment that line and use this as a method in case of future failures. I hate to mark this as solved...but I will at the end of my work day if I can't figure out a better explanation.

  • [SOLVED] Chromium crashes everytime I choose a file in the file dialog

Title says all. And it doesn't even need to be a file dialog from Chromium itself. If I trigger a file dialog elsewhere, Chromium also crashes. I only have a slightest idea that it has something to do with GTK+ (or with oxygen-gtk), but that's all I've got.
    Any ideas?
    Last edited by R_Rios (2012-12-17 04:06:36)

So, I just ran the gtk-kde4 kcm module and the theme field was empty for some reason. Just selecting a theme (oxygen-gtk, if that matters) seems to have solved my issue.

  • It's stopped giving me the option to skip ads on youtube?

    Hello,
I downloaded Yosemite today after months of putting it off as I didn't like the way it looked.
It finished, and I have found that on youtube - I no longer have the option to skip adverts, including the long 4 minute ones, when some of the videos I want to watch are barely that long.
Does anyone know why this has happened? I use adblock, but that isn't blocking them either. Thanks!

I do believe Yosemite has anything to do with it.  I have the same issue recently with Mavericks as well.  I also am using adblock.  Perhaps the sites are getting smarter to keep you from skipping the ads.  I'm having tho issue mostly with Safari.  If I use Chrome most ads get blocked.
