[SOLVED] "Clone" packages on comp #1 to comp #2?

I have a dilemma that's kinda hard to search for on the archlinux forums.
I have an old archlinux install on computer #1, and now I have a new clean install on computer #2, is there any way for me to install all the packages computer #1 has on computer #2 with relative ease? Doing it manually would take forever.

# comp 1
pacman -Qqe > installed.txt
# comp 2
pacman -S $(cat installed.txt)
Not the -Qe lists only "explicitly installed" packages.  That way, dependencies stay installed as dependencies.
Copy all the files from /var/cache/pacman/pkg from comp 1 to comp 2 to prevent having to download them again.

  • Should a clone copy mirror comp changes made to the parent region?

    Hi
I've just made a clone copy of a region (song chorus) and I was hoping that if I made a change to the comp of the parent region that this would be mirrored in the copy. But that isn't happening. Is this something that should happen, and if so, can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

    sorry... for misunderstanding
I assume you were talking about Midi Region Aliases!!!
are you talking about Audio TakeComp logic 8.0.x (known bugs) feature?
in the audio take comp feature there are at least 3 or 4 known bugs...
this is historically bug Guinness Book of Records... there are more than 4 bugs only in the take comp feature i think...
I just think because simply, I never use take comp when tracking with Logic 8...
I use only Logic 7 way for this particular function!!!
    So I really don't know...
    I'm sorry
usually if I need to copy the same comp editing I do the following:
Bypass all unecessary plugins in the CH strip inserts and i select the region...
Than I click on the rigth mouse button... scrolling the options to select Export region as Audio file...
the file will be in the Audio bin already edited!
    I'm not a clone lovers
I love to touch with my hands the real regions (of my girl friend, of course)
    done!
    Good Luck!

    hello collective mind,
i'm going to build a large number of packages (semi-)automated way.
but as you know, package signing procedure has one interactive step, i.e. gpg key password input.
well, the question is: how can it be done unattended?
    any working solutiuons?
    thanks in advance.

since i have a dedicated key for package signing & nothing else, i've set things up like described here:

  • [Solved] Install package python-evdev from AUR

I belive this is the correct section to post this but I have a problem installing the package python-evdev where I get the error ( Unsupported package: Potentially dangerous ! )
after trying to install with yaourt and pip install python-evdev results in bash: pip: command not found even after checking that extra/python-setuptools 1:5.2-1 is installed
    and extra/python2-setuptools 1:5.2-1 is installed.
I realize there are other modules for hooking x server events but this one I have already written 200 lines of code for and is key to my application working.  I was able to install
and utilize this module in ubuntu but cannot seem to get it installed in archlinux.  Any guidance would be apreciated.

I asumed pip came with setup tools, so following ids1024's lead I did a pacman -S python-pip which solved the command not found issue.  I downloaded and untar'ed the package from AUR and issued a makepkg -s from within the extracted folder.  There seems to be an issue with the licence which I can now see has to do with the person who make the package
I did not realize the dynamics of how AUR works because I am new to arch, so I appologize if I bothered anyone.
[Update] I have abondoned the idea of getting pythons evdev module installed as I have located a python3-xlib module which seems to have installed correctly, incidently I was unable to locate a xlib ported to python3 in my other distro, but found it in AUR here so this should work, will have to adapt my code but not the end of the world.  Else if (Xlib != WORKING): work directly with /dev/input/eventn using root

  • [SOLVED] filesystem package: list by label in /etc/crypttab

Reading about Persistent Device Naming, using labels in /etc/fstab rather than UUIDs has some advantages.  But /etc/crypttab seems to support only /dev/sdXY and UUID notation.  Since flesystem is listed as an Arch Linux package, is there any chance of adding support for naming devices with labels in /etc/crypttab?

falconindy wrote:You cannot identify an encrypted filesystem by LABEL, because the label itself is a property of the unencrypted filesystem. You're asking to solve a chicken/egg problem.
I apologize for misspeaking: I want to identify a partition containing an encrypted filesystem by label in /etc/crypttab.  While /dev/disk/sdXY works, /dev/disk/by-label/foo did not work.
falconindy wrote:You can identify an encrypted filesystem by its PARTLABEL (or PARTUUID), assuming you've partitioned your disks with GPT. I added support, implicitly, for this to /etc/crypttab 2 years ago.
Thanks Dave: I am using GPT and although I'm new to PARTLABEL, I'll look into it.  Looking at the code you linked, though, I think I probably just want to use the

    branch, rather than
    /dev/disk/by-label

you can surely put those packages onto a removable media & to install those packs with pacman you need to copy those to /var/cache/pacman/pkg directory.
    then just do
    pacman -S package
BTW i burned this package to a dvd (wvdial) and went to my dvddrive and it wasent there:)
can't understand this. might be u r saying that u burned wvdial to a dvd & it wasn't there, so there are chances that that dvd is corrupt or burning didn't happen properly

  • [SOLVED] Rosgarden package not working

    Hi everybody,
it's my first post here, so I hope I get all things done.
I installed the new version of Rosegarden (10.02; i686 architecture) for the first time yesterday evening. I wanted to check out its features.
    Rosegarden's package information:
    http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra … osegarden/
I usually start programs via the Bash. But when starting Rosegarden this error occurs:
    [user@asterix ~]$ rosegarden
rosegarden: symbol lookup error: rosegarden: undefined symbol: _ZN9QListData7detach3Ev
It seems that there's something (a package?!?) missing.
    I installed Rosegarden with Pacman:
    [2010-02-15 19:37] synchronizing package lists
    [2010-02-15 19:41] installed liblrdf (0.4.0-6)
    [2010-02-15 19:41] installed liblo (0.26-1)
    [2010-02-15 19:41] installed dssi (1.0.0-3)
    [2010-02-15 19:41] installed rosegarden (10.02-1)
According to Rosegarden's package information the following packages are required (the missing one were installed by Pacman itself; in brackets the installed version):
    - fftw (3.2.2-1)
    - qt (4.5.3-4)
    - liblrdf (0.4.0-6)
    - dssi (1.0.0-3)
    - ladspa (1.13-2)
    - liblo (0.26-1)
    - lirc-utils (0.8.6-3)
    - shared-mime-info (0.71-1)
    I've searched for previous errors:
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=82791
There's no relation to my problem.
It would be great if someone has a clue what to do. I hope all necessary information were mentioned.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
sorry for my late reply, but I was busy the all day long.
Thank you 'drcouzelis' for the tip to build Rosegarden on my own (with ABS).
The building process took a while on my old AMD Athlon XP 1900+ but it works now.
Unfortunately I don't know what went wrong before. It's the first package (within Pacman) which does not work since I've been using Arch Linux (about three years now).
Arch Linux is a great distribution with a great and helpful community.
    Thanks for support.

  • [Solved] Insync package error holding up system upgrade

I'm getting the following problem when trying pacman -Syu
    error: insync: missing required signature
I think I installed insync from aur - so I'm not sure how it's trying to update during the pacman -Syu process (or do all aur packages do this?).
Also, where do I get the PGP sig from? I'll contact insync for support, but has anyone else had this problem?
    TIA

I've since installed the latest version of insync via aur and pacman -Syu now longer wants to upgrade it and then goes on to upgrade everything else.

  • [SOLVED] Clone Archlinux to USB flash drive

    Hello,
I want to clone an existing Archlinux installation (x86-64)  from a hard drive to a 32 GB USB flash drive. I want to be able to boot from the USB stick on my Win7 labtop.
I already took some measures to prepare my hard drive (with gparted). After moving all movies, pics etc to external stores and shrinking the home drive (sda4), it now looks like this:
    - sda1 Boot (small)
    - sda2 Swap (small)
    - sda3 Root ( ca.8GB)
    - sda4 Home (ca. 22GB)
I tried to take an image of the entire hard-disk (ca. 250GB) with clonezilla and restore it to the USB flash drive, but got an error message - original disk to big (250GB vs 32GB), besides only ca 30GB of the 250GB being assigned to partitions.
Now I'm looking for a way to bring only the necessary partitions from the harddisk to the USB stick, hoping to have exactly the same Archlinux configuration as a bootable installation on the USB stick afterwards (bootable on a Win7 labtop ... and maybe from my main Archlinux machine too). There is a wiki article about the topic, but its rather about installing a fresh system than cloning an existing system. The related questions on the forum (searching in 'installation' for 'clone usb') did not answer my question.
Maybe somebody did successfully what I'm planning to do and can give me some tips?

4on6 wrote:Create two new partitions - with gparted p.ej.? And do I have to worry about the filesystems - must they be the same like for the original partitions on my hard-disk?
I prefer Gparted, it's easy as cake
The filesystems don't have to be the same as the original partitions. I prefer ext4 (universally supported) or jfs (uses very little CPU), but I recommend you ext4.
In fact, you can use a hard drive instead of a flash drive and this is how you clone a Linux installation manually!
    4on6 wrote:So I mount both - source and destination partitions (/mnt/dest/ suggests it ...)?
Yes. I mount the source partition in /mnt/source and the destination partition in /mnt/dest, and then I issue
    rsync -av /mnt/source/ /mnt/dest
and wait for it to finish. Then I unmount the partitions and mount the other ones and repeat the same thing.
4on6 wrote:I create that /boot folder on the flash drives root partition, right? Won't that cause problems later on with rsync, when I update the installation and there is an additional folder on the target partition?
Since the root directory you'll aready copy on the flash disk won't have the /boot directory, simple do a
    mkdir /mnt/dest/boot
while your destination partition is still mounted. Unmount the source root partition, mount the boot one and then type:
    rsync -av /mnt/source/ /mnt/dest/boot
and GRUB and the kernel will be copied to the /boot folder on the destinaton partition on the flash disk.
Make sure that in /mnt/dest/etc/fstab you comment out the line for mounting the /boot partition, if any.
4on6 wrote:I've seen those UUIDs as output of a linux command (mount? fdisk?), but I don't recall which one - how do I get these UUIDs?
Use Gparted, right click any partition and click Information. In the window that appears, in the middle you can double-click the UUID and press Ctrl-C to copy it. Then you can paste it in the text editor and use it for /etc/fstab or /boot/grub/menu.lst. That's why I love Gparted for such stuff.
4on6 wrote:Do I send this command from the live Arch-CD, and is it the only command necessary (I have not much experience with grub)?
Yes, since Arch uses GRUB 1 on the installation CD you can uste the command I gave you to reinstall GRUB on the flash disk with the settings you already entered for the /boot/grub/menu.lst file.
Make sure you boot the CD in 64 bit mode if the Arch you installed is 64 bit. Just to be safe.
    4on6 wrote:I will ...
Be very careful, I didn't and lost ALL my files by mistake in typing. Triple-check the directory you are currently working in! ALWAYS make a backup!
4on6 wrote:Great that this is possible, hope I manage to get it done. Thanks again.
You're welcome. Please inform me if this little tutorial suited you so I can make a wiki entry for it, if the admins allow.

  • [solved] rebuild packages on kernel update

Hi. I jave an older computer (Dell Studio 173x) with a 'Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01)' network card. So far I have only been able to make it work with the bwoadcom-wl package from the AUR (I might give the other, suggested, alternatives a go this week).
However, in the last 2-3 months it stopped working suddenly about 3 times (yesterday was the last one). I _think_ it has to do with kernel updates, as that's what I did yesterday - I updated the kernel (plus a few other packages, but rather innocent, I guess, I update daily, and they were things like git), rebooted and wireless was not working (the card was not even listen in 'ip link show'). I eventually connected via the cable and rebuild broadcom-wl, rebooted and it worked. This does't happen for each kernel update, though, so my assumptions may be wrong or simply not each kernel update requires the rebuild. Please correct me if this is impossible and I'm talking rubbish, I would love to learn the cause of this nuisance.
Is there a way to have certain packages rebuild with kernel updates? I haven't been using arch for too long, so maybe I am missing something obvious. Please give me some tips / links.

    Yes, check DKMS https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dy … le_Support
There is even a broadcom-wl package in AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl-dkms/

Thank you Scimmia .. It's really simple, this works
