[SOLVED] Disable volume buttons

I have a problem that volume touch buttons on my laptop are randomly pressed by themselves and when in prompt i sometimes get flooded with tilde characters originating from these random pressings of the volume buttens. Showkey program identified it as keykode 114 and 115. How would i disable these two buttons on the most primitive level?

Thank you for the reply. Yes xmodmap does the trick in X, but i was wondering how would i disable these two keys on more basic level, that is when i'm in prompt (as they cause tilde characters to randomly appear on inputline). I don't often use prompt so this is really more or less a curiosity, but still i had some instances when i couldn't write my password correctly because of this issue (input was p~~as~swor~d instead of password) and it took some time and couple of reboots so that window of no '~' pressings appeared and that i could properly login.

  • Possible to disable volume buttons - ipad?

I have a ipad2 ios7 with a volume button fault - it means the volume (down) button is randomly engaged every few seconds, resulting in the volume going to zero, but even at zero it also means the volume button activation icon is constantly flashed in the middle of the screen.
Is is possible to write an app to disable the volume buttons or buttons in general?  so that the icon will not flash on when the button is pressed?
Or in conjunction with this is it possible to lock the volume so that pressing the vol buttons has no effect.
In either case, my main concern is preventing the volume icon appearing constantly on the screen - I can live without any sound.
Apple have provided (in IOS) the neat feature allowing a floating screen button to take the place of a faulty home button.  It would be great if they included some way to overcome faulty volume buttons also.
I appreciate the benefit of your experience,
    regards,
    Ray

Maybe jailbreak would allow a system level patch to disable the switch like I suggested.
That's a topic that cannot be discussed on these forums

The so called Apple factory refurbished units I assume to mean they do repair returned units at some point and resell them?  Otherwise why call them refurbished - they are just brand new?
Apple does not repair them.  The manufacturer, Foxconn, does so back at their facilities in China.  Apple just ships them back, and receives factory refurbished service units from them.  That is why they are called refurbished and not repaired - they are fully refurbished by the actual manufacturer.  They all get new screens and new battery, regardless of age or condition, any other faults are repaired and they are fully tested and come with a minimum of a 90 day warranty.

  • HT201401 The volume buttons on the side of my iPhone 4S do not work . Is there a way to turn them on or off or are they broken

Volume button don't work . Can they be turned on and off?

If the iPhone falsely senses it is docked due to short in the charging port it can disable Volume buttons. Shorting in charging port can be due to dust, debris, etc. If no Warranty, clean with toothbrush and small amount of Isopropyl Alcohol. Never hurts to try a Restore with current iTunes on your computer, too.

You can disable or remove that button, but that won't prevent users from making the changes on the about:config page directly.<br />
You can lock the related network.proxy prefs if you do not want users to change the connection settings.

How to disable safe mode on xperia z1,power and volume button doesn't work

    Hi rafharum,
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
A simple restart to the device would generally resolve this issue, however if the power key and Volume key are not working they may very well be causing the handset to execute safemode when ever you power the device on.
If this is the case, you will need to get the handset to a service agent for assessment. Please use the link below to contact Sony Mobile Customer Care directly.

    HI
i have iPhone 4s with iOS 8.1.3 , since 2 days I'm facing a problem that the ring tone, lock button sound, password sound, volume buttons, slide volume and incoming call flash,
all these not working properly , sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not, I tried to restart the phone many times but I didn't fix the problem
plz help me to solve this problem

Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

  • Is there anyway to disable the volume buttons so that you can only change the volume on the screen?

My volume buttons go up and down by themselves.

No.  To solve your problem have you tried:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Qosmio X775 Volume Button Annoyance - Solved

Qosmio X775 Volume Button Annoyance Whenever using Windows Media Player (and possibly other applications), pressing a volume Up or Down button mutes the sound from the application, emits an annoying beep, then gradually, slowly increases the volume to the new level. There is no visual indicator of where the volume level is.
The net result is that the volume seems totally uncontrollable at first, until you realize how it works. But the annoyance factor never goes away. The only way to use the buttons is through multiple trial and error attempts with that loud beeping. VERY soon, you find yourself using the windows volume control and just skipping the buttons.
Is there some way to disable this 'feature', so that you can just adjust the volume until it sounds right?
Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

Never mind.  The fix is to disable button beeps in BIOS.

An on-screen display for volume would be nice, though.

It has a touch sensitive control buttons, which includes the eco utility, media buttons, and volume control (+ and -)
The volume buttons do not work, and sometimes the computer freezes upon touching them. Once I touch the -, it keeps turning the volume down until it reaches zero, and even if I turn it up using windows, it returns to zero (like if the button is still being pressed). The + one doesn't work at all.
Please help. Any way to reinstalle their drivers ?
The only solution I found is to disable them using HWSetup...

    Solved.
I just had to uninstall the Toshiba Common Modules, and reinstalled them. It worked.
I hope it doesn't happen again.

Access the BIOS menu and reset the factory defaults.
    1.       Shut down the laptop
    2.       Restart it and tap the F10 key repeatedly
    3.       It should lead you into the BIOS menu
    4.       Press F9 to load defaults and then F10 to save and exit
The compuer should then restart and take you back to your main desktop screen. Once there test out those 3 keys.

  • IdeaPad Z370 and Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit - problem with volume buttons

I recently bought my new Lenovo IdeaPad Z370 without operating system and installed Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit (the pre-installed system was FreeDOS which I decided to remove).
Nearly all is working fine. The only exception are the volume keys: pressing them does start adjusting the volume, but causes a system problem. If I press sound up, the speakers move to immediately to the maximum volume and behave as it I was continuing to press the button.
The same happens when pressing the volume down or sound off buttons. It is then not possible any more to use the keyboard or type anyting, nor change the volume using the touchpad and Ubuntu's speaker symbol. It is also not possible any more to shut down the computer using Ubuntu's virtual shutdown button, but with the real button on the computer.
The touchpad is still working and after putting the computer briefly into standby the problem is solved to the degree that it is possible to use the keyboard etc. again, and the sound volume can be adjusted again with Ubuntu's speaker symbol.
I guess this must be a driver issue that ubuntu 11.1 does not support the buttons.
As well, the one-key-theatre button and the thermal-management button do not work. Pressing them, just nothing happens (except that the light up).
I should mention that installing Ubuntu apparently deleted the partitions including the one-key recovery button. At least this key does now only work like a second power-button. Unfortunately I did not receive the User-guide with the computer but only downloaded from the internet after installing Ubuntu.
I wonder whether apart from adjusting the volume buttons, it might be possible to get the one-key-theatre button and thermal-management-button operational for ubuntu too, and whether the one-key-recovery button could work under ubuntu too. Gparted tells me that I have 2 small partitions of 3.9 GiB each, labeled "extended" and "windows swap", and one of 1.02 GiB which is not in use apart from the main drive of course.

The issue you are encountering is due to driver absence in Linux.
The driver for Linux is not available.  Hope, Ubuntu new version have more applications and drivers.
    Best Regards,
    Tanuj

  • My down volume button doesn't work. How can I fix it?

When I press the down volume button on my iPad 2 it doesn't work. It was working last night but not this morning. I didn't drop it or anything. I just got my iPad not even a year ago. How can I fix my down volume button?

Well if you restore your iPad that might work. If its a software issue, it might solve it. If that doesn't work, it might be a hardware issue that apple can fix.
