[SOLVED]Folding at Home issues.

Solution: It was a mixmatch of opencl drivers. I had opencl-nvidia installed with nvidia-304xx drivers. Once I changed opencl-nvidia to opencl-nvidia-304xx it fixed the problem and started folding. Thanks for the help!
Hey guys, trying to get my FAH up and running but I'm running into an issue with my nvidia cards. I tried posting on FAH's forum but they just tell me I need to have nvidia proprietary drivers installed...which I do. And the support seems to end there. Looking for some help. Here is the error log that shows up when I try and fold on my two gpus (evga gtx660, one normal, one SC)

    This may seem ridiculous but I actually had a personal folder called "Home" on OS 10.4 and when I upgraded to Leopard it disappeared. I thought that it might still be on the computer but that the directory structure might have been corrupted. I used DiskWarrior and was happy to see that the Home folder was still present and had all of the original subdirectories and files. But after rebuilding the directory structure using DiskWarrior the folder still doesnt appear. Can some one help me in transferring the subdirectories and filed to a new folder ... that I will obviously not name "Home"?

    Welcome to the Apple forums:
    Not ridiculous at all. In fact it was rather common back some months ago.
    Apple has a document that should help you fix things:

  • Has anyone solved the "garbled characters" issue i...

    When I use Nokia Maps on my N95, all streets and towns which contain special characters such as: é, è, ü, ä, ö, etc… do appear garbled. For example,
    Zürich appears as: Zã¼rich
    München appears as: Mã¼nchen
    Liège appears as: Liã"ge
    I saw a couple posts on this forum where people suggested to format the memory card, some other suggested to reload the firmware (my N95 has 12.0.013) but nothing has helped. I went as far as using someone's PC whose WinXP is installed in French - I thought that maybe the operating system or regional settings could have some influence, but I was wrong.
    Has anyone solved this extremely annoying issue?
    Thx

    I solved it. It took me one evening. I wonder why Nokia haven't published any comments on this old issue.
    Solution can be found below, but before I want to tell about some technical details. Maybe guys at Nokia will read them
    As someone on this forum said before the problem is that map names are in UTF-8 format, but phone tries to show them using another encoding. After some googling I found that this issue is well-known because Nokia phones use ISO 8859-1 (which is similar to Windows-1252, Western European) by default but some application assume UTF-8 to be default.
    At first, I discovered that when I start Nokia map with empty SD card and allow it to download something from internet, all names were shown correctly. I supposed that the problem sits in that awful Map Loader, but I was wrong: it does absolutely nothing special with data files, just downloading and unzipping. And this super-mega-feature-rich-map-loader require about 40Mb to download for .NET 3.0 plus 10 Mb for itself. Never seen anything worse
    So I've started to compare contents of one SD card with incorrect street and city names and another with correct.
    After some time I came across Cachedatheader.cdt file in diskcache folder. And what do you think?
    The file from correct SD card contains a literal string: "UTF-8". While incorrect one contains a string saying "ISO 8859-1". I've nearly fell out of my chair after seeing that.
    I've replaced wrong file with correct one and names became readable on all my 180mb of previously downloaded maps.
    Finally, after playing with it some more I found a simple solution which should work for everyone:
    ***** SOLUTION *****
    1. Enable internet access in Nokia Maps application (set it to When Needed).
    2. Access memory card from your PC and go to "\PRIVATE\20001f66\diskcache" folder.
    3. Delete "CachedatHeader.cdt" file. Perhaps you should backup it somewhere before deleting, but it looks like it can be removed safely without affecting existing maps.
    4. Put the card back in the phone if you extracted it and start Nokia Maps.
    5. Allow Nokia Maps to access internet and try downloading some new locations (you don't need to download much, just let it access server) or searching for something.
    6. Now codepage should be correct and all names become readable.
    This effect seems to be permanent and will stay even if you disable internet access later. Also note that you don't have to format card, remove or reinstall any map files. The problem is just in one small file.
    Nokia Maps recreates missing CachedatHeader.cdt, but it will recreate it correctly only if internet access is enabled when it starts. Probably the best way to avoid wrong codepage problem is to enable internet access at first start of Nokia Maps and use Map Loader only after downloading some bits of map directly from the phone.

  • Normal user unable to launch folding at home daemon

    Hello everyone,
    I recently tried to install folding at home on my arch linux system. I followed the wiki guide and everything went smoothly except from one thing. I edited the /etc/conf.d/foldingathome file to be able to launch the daemon as a normal user and not as root. However when I start folding at home I get this
    andrew ~ $ /etc/rc.d/foldingathome start
    :: Starting Folding@Home [BUSY] standard in must be a tty
    /bin/touch: cannot touch `/var/run/daemons/foldingathome': Permission denied
    [DONE]
    As root I'm able to run it with no problems. Any ideas on how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance.

    you should change permissions to /var/run/daemons/foldingathome.
    like this:
    sudo chown -R yourusername:yourusergroup /var/run/daemons/foldingathome
    or change this dir in config files somewhere at home dir.

  • Can you help me solve my aspect ratio issue?

    Hey guys,
    I'm posting this in hopes that someone can help me solve an aspect ratio issue with a project that I have to finish by tomorrow.
    I'm trying to avoid having to re-edit the entire thing.
    I shot the project with my Nikon D7000 DSLR. in 720p 30p (29.97)
    I am running Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (the trial version).  I have the full version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
    The reason I was working with the trial is that CS3 can't handle the H.264 MOVs that the D7000 records.
    You can work with a timeline, but if you try to export anything, it never works.  I always have to convert my footage to ProRes MOVs with MPEG Streamclip before I can work with them is CS3.  That takes a lot of time and a lot of hard drive space.  After much research, I found out that CS5 is the way to go for DSLR footage.  I just need to save up my pennies for the upgrade.
    So I thought I'd edit this short (1 minute) project with the trial to see how CS5 works with the D7000 footage.
    Upon installing the trial program, I found that the project presets were limited.  I knew this ahead of time because it's clearly stated on the Adobe's website.
    But I wasn't aware how limited they are.
    Since "DSLR 1280x720p 30p" is not an option with the trial, I was going to use HDV 720p 30p.  But that was not an option either!
    So basically, my only option for 16x9 30p was "DV NTSC Widescreen".  It's my understanding that this is 864x480 (in square pixel aspect ratio) or 720x480  (in widescreen pixel aspect ratio)   I needed the output file to be 864x486.  I downsized the footage to 69% in the "Video Effects: Motion" setting so it looked correct in the project.  I didn't think about those extra 6 pixels until I outputed the file and saw thin black lines on the top and bottom.  My guess is that Premiere is adding black pixels because my project is technically 720x480 (1.2121)
    Any thoughts on how I can get a clean 864x486 export?  I'd rather not re-edit the whole thing...which I would have to do in CS3 after I spent a few hours converting the original files in MPEG Streamclip.  I don't know if there is a way to export something out of CS5 and then open a new project in CS3 to make this work.
    Thanks in adavance!
    - Jordan

    On export, just crop a few pixels off of each side; that'll let the image scale correctly to the output frame size without black bars.
    I'm not running the trial, but you should still be able to create a custom sequence preset using the Desktop editing mode. Just switch over to the General tab when you create a new sequence, and choose "Desktop" from the editing modes. Set the rest of the parameters as you need them.
    Even easier: once you've imported your footage, just drag a clip to the New Item icon at the bottom of the project panel; a sequence will be created matching your footage parameters. You can edit at full-resolution, and then export to your desired frame size when complete--you'll probably still need to crop a few pixels (in the Export Settings window) to eliminate the black bars.

  • Question on strange folder in /home

    I noticed today that I had a folder in /home named pdf-document and have never seen that before. Interesting part is ownership was root:nobody and perms was 777 so anyone has r,w,x access to that folder. Anyways curious if anyone knows what package would have created this folder?

    shen wrote:well pacman seems to think it can't determine ownership of a directory...
    The workaround I've seen suggested is to list all files and directories managed by pacman, then grep for the one you want:
    pacman -Ql | grep ' /home/pdf-document'
    I don't think that lists directories either.
    What about :
    find /var/lib/pacman/local/ -name files | xargs grep home/pdf-document/$

    If you are DPS single edition user, then you need to enter serial number to activate app.
    But it would be more helpful if you let us know which DPS edition you have?

  • [SOLVED] Contents of home folder on desktop in Gnome Shell

    A few days ago, after installing some updates (I believe gnome-themes-standard was amongst them) and restarting, I found that the contents of my home folder were displayed as icons on my desktop, and when I go into Activities mode, the background is black. Searching around hasn't turned up any results... any ideas?
    In case there's any potential graphics related issues wrt the blank background, the system is a laptop with a HD3000 GPU in a Core i7 CPU.
    Last edited by ch_123 (2013-03-04 10:00:07)

    You can probably remove the desktop icons by opening dconf-editor and going to org.gnome.desktop.background. Once there, untick show-desktop-icons and restart the Shell.
    I don't know about your other issue though, have you tried with another theme?
    EDIT: The issues are related; my background also just went black. Just untick the above option, re-set your wallpaper and finally restart the Shell; that did it for me.

  • [SOLVED] Finding missing home folder

    Ok, I just got some new hardware and was finally able to try out an x86-64 distro, which made me want to give Arch another go in hopes that some old compatibility issues I had would have died with my old hardware (which they greatfully did).
    My issue started out where after install my old home folder from Mint was apparently missing. So what I did was try mounting my home partition to a temp folder to see what it showed and I was surprised to see that my old home folder was there, but my current one was not. I then looked closer at my current home folder and noticed that the free space shown for it was closer to what my / partition had. This got me wondering if something was wrong with my fstab file, so I went in that and found that when I added noatime flags to a few of my partitions that I mis-typed it for the partition for my home folders (noaatime instead of noatime).
    I corrected this mistake, saved, and rebooted and found I wasn't allowed to start up my desktop, because now my current Arch user home directory is missing, presumably orphaned on my / partition.
    What I would like to know is if there is a way to recover this now missing folder. I would like to recover a downloaded file in it and perhaps relocate the whole thing into the proper partition for my home directory. Also, even if I can't it's not a big deal, besides the fact that I would want to purge the folder if it is orphaned and still taking up space in my / partition.
    If anyone can help point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

    I may have totally misunderstood, but I think that your old mint home dir is on a file-system that you mount on /home.  But, your Arch home dir is in /home on the root file-system.  So when you mount /home it "hides" the Arch home dir underneath the newly mounted file-system
    To fix (if this is correct)...
    1) log out of all sessions
    2) log in as root
    3) # umount /home
    4) # cd /home
    At this point, your old mint home dir should be gone and the new Arch one available
    5) # mv <your_username> /
    6) # cd /
    7) # mount /home
    8) # cd /home
    9) # mv <your_username> <your_username>.old
    10) # mv /<your_username> .

  • [Solved] Folding@Home Kills Network On Boot

    Hello all,
    I just did a fresh [testing] installation and using NetworkManager under Gnome 3.12.
    Upon using the system this last few days I had some weird network issues where my wireless connection would connect fine during boot, but I could not do anything, not even pinging my local router.
    Spending a few fruitless hours, I finally managed to connect the issue to Folding@Home, such that if folding is enabled on boot the network is behaving as described above.
    If I disable folding (e.g. by pausing it and rebooting the system), network behaves just fine on next boot.
    I really can't figure any logical connection between the two, but after several enabling and disabling I'm pretty sure Folding@Home is to blame.
    I'm not sure what kind of log will be beneficial to the situation, but will be glad to test whatever is needed.
    Thanks, Adam.
    * EDIT *
    Following advice from the F@H forum, it seems like some sort of weird race condition.
    As a workaround, I created a systemd timer to delay the start of the foldingathome service after boot and everything seems to work fine.
    [Unit]
    Description=Delay foldingathome service
    [Timer]
    OnBootSec=5min
    Unit=foldingathome.service
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target

    Okay, it works now (after creating /mnt/home anew and rebooting). However, I wonder why did tp_smapi touch my mount points in the first place?

  • [SOLVED]cannot share folder in home directory with SAMBA

    My problem is relatively small as I can use a workaround but I would like to be able to discern whether or not my troubles  stem from a bug or my own incompetence.
    Basically it seems I can share just about anything I want EXCEPT for a file or folder in my home directory.  I  have two primary users on my box, root & dunce, and what I am unable to do is share "/home/dunce/shared".  I've tried quite a few different configs based on what I could find online but nothing works.  Initially I followed the SAMBA instrucions on the Arch Wiki and that was fine for other items I wanted to share.  I feel like I'm kinda'   makin' a mountain out of a molehill here but I would really like to understand WHY I can't share from "/home/dunce/shared".  I really don't think it's a problem in smb.conf but then again . . .  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    The option browseable if not defined is per default set to yes.
    Excerpt from The definitive guide to samba 3
    browseable: This parameter determines whether a share appears in browse lists on clients. The default value of YES causes a share to appear and is usually appropriate. You can hide a share by setting this parameter to NO; however, be aware that this setting doesn't make a share unavailable, only hidden from casual browsing.
    Another thing I stumbled upon is that samba can get confused if security=share is used. It will try different usernames until it finds one that can be used, or will deny access if none can be used. The following list is the order it tries to access the share:
    Guest, Client provided username, Prior login, Share name, Client name, User list (if defined).
    You can try to set
    guest ok = yes
    and see if that changes the behaviour. You will need
    guest account = nobody
    or something similar in you global configuration to make this work.
    Whatever user you set as guest need to exist in the samba database. And must be a existing linux username as well.
    Another option is to set the guest account in the share definition and only allow guest access.
    [share]
    path = /home/dunce/sharefolder
    browseable = yes
    writable = yes
    guest account = dunce
    guest ok = yes
    guest only = yes
    Again the username (dunce) need to exist in the samba database. Depending on your setup this can be set with the command pdbedit.
    There is a samba book available online from O'Reilly. It is a bit dated, but the info on shares should still be valid. I think chapter 6 is especially interesting for you in your scenario.

  • [SOLVED] Mystic home folder inside home folder.

    Hello,
    for some time now I observe the repeated creation of a mystic home folder inside my home folder. E.g. if my user name is user, the folder /home/user/home/user/ is created (supposedly at booting time). I use arch linux with gdm and xmonad started from a .xsession file.
    Do you have any ideas or suggestions about logs that I could provide?

    @SolarBoyMatt: Yes, it appears along with everything else and it is empty (sorry, I forgot to post this ...). I am not convinced that it is created at boot time, but if I delete it, it appears again after I reboot the laptop.
    @jasonwryan: No, it is not a symlink. The folder is empty. The only shell initialization file that I changed from the default ones is ~/.bashrc

  • [SOLVED] SystemD NTFS partition issue's

    Hey archers,
    hope someone here can help me
    recently began testing systemd & I am facing a problem where I have to ctrl+d or give root password during every boot up due to systemd having problems with my ntfs partition ( i mount at boot as I have symlinks to that partition for documents & programs which run in wine)
    I have not enabled anything to do with mounting or even added the fuse module to load as it has already picked that up!
    here are the entries I think are related to this from journalctl:

    as you can see my partitions are being mounted TWICE which is not what I want or expected!
    is there more documentation on what systemd does with mounts that could explain why i have multiple mount points for partitions or is this due to systemd discovering my partitions & mounting them at points based on label names & then parsing my FSTAB as well!
    I have read the wikki but there is very small info there & the links have not provided an explanation for this unwanted behaviour
    EDIT #2
    >>>>>>>>>>>SOLVED<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    not an NTFS or FUSE issue
    I had previously installed mnttools!
    removed & now all is well
    sorry

    OK,
    After being spurred on to try to do this thing properly, this is what I came up with today.
    My fstab line (for a USB NTFS disk):
    /dev/sdb1 /media/samsung ntfs-3g noauto,users,rw,nodev 0 0
    Then I created the /media/samsung folder and gave the audio group read/write permissions.
    It seems that non-root users can only mount an ntfs partition if they use a version of ntfs-3g with fuse included, so I replaced ntfs-3g with the version from AUR, having removed from the PKGBUILD file the option "-with-fuse=external" (see this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=44844 ).   I also had to set
    the ntfs-3g binary to setuid-root, dealt with here: http://www.tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g … privileged (note- the instructions say this is discouraged, but it seems using ntfs partitions in linux requires some compromises).
    I can now mount the drive as an ordinary user.
    Then I set mpd back to run as user mpd, checked the audio group had access to all the mpd folders, and all was well.
    One hiccup which you might not have: mpd was unable to access my (external) sound card at first.  To solve this one, I used
    chmod 770 /dev/snd -R && chgrp audio /dev/snd -R
    As far as I can remember, that's everything.
