[SOLVED] GLIBC_2.16 not found - Pacman broken

Hi all,
I did a packman -Syu yesterday and following instructions relative to glib errors I also performed it by excluding glibc.
This resulting in the problem that now I have old GLIBC ( so I don't have simlink of lib).
After rebooting my system was unable to boot anymore, I did a chroot and a mkinitcpio -p linux and now I can boot the system.
The main problem is that I can't use pacman and a lot of stuff (samba service, firefox, and so on) due to this error:
pacman: /lib/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.16' not found (required by /lib/libarchive.so.12)
Before opening this new thread I did a lot of searching and I tried I think almost all solutions I've found.
I already tried to use pacman cache for replacing libs, I already tried to downgrade curl...
Any help is very very very appreciated, It's a workstation I'm using for CFD computation in my lab and I'm totally blocked!!! (I mean, CFD works at least )
Thanks in advance, guys.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … iki:usrlib
Try this from a chroot : pacman -U http://pkgbuild.com/~allan/glibc-2.16.0 … pkg.tar.xz
If that fails, try extracting the 2.16.0-1 tarball to /  (and don't forget to reinstall glibc after you've solved the problem) .

  • [SOLVED] Device not found and kernel panic

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with the kernel. I get this weird error while booting:
    Booting the kernel.
    :: running early hook [udev]
    :: running hook [udev]
    :: Triggering uevents...
ERROR: device '' not found. Skipping fsck.

You are being dropped to a recovery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
    [rootfs /]# _
I don't have the slightest idea what to type in that shell, so I exit (^D) and get an error with its shell, another one and finally a kernel panic. Do I have to report the other two error as well? I think this might be related to a recent change in my syslinux.cfg. I wanted to add hibernation cabability to my arch, so I added "resume=/dev/sda2" (my swap) to kernel options. It should not yield such a result though. As a matter of fact, I get it even if I remove that parameter at runtime. For now, I managed to boot with Fallback Initramfs.
    Here is syslinux.cfg, as well:

Also, don't use "root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/...", that's just wrong. Udev kicks in after the bootloader phase.

  • [SOLVED]: gnutls not found after LXDE install attempt

After issuing the following command as root:
    # pacman -S lxde
many console messages ensue, among them:
error: failed retrieving file 'gnutls-2.8.6-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz' from mirror.rit.edu : Not Found
This message is repeated for each of the other five mirrors in my list.
All the other packages seem to have been retrieved all right.
At the end of the process, the following messages appear:
warning: failed to retrieve some files from extra
error: failed to commit transaction (Not Found)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
    I tried
    # pacman -S gnutls
and got the same results as above, with the same version number in the error message, and the same three messages at the end.
I searched for gnutls in the package database, and found gnutls to be at version 2.10.4-1 .
I have searched the Arch wiki, forums, and beginner's guide for this issue, with no success, and have tried Googling the Web with various combinations of the words arch, lxde, gnutls, and "not found", also with no success.
This is my first attempt at installing Arch, but not my first experience with Linux.  All has gone well up until now; the Arch CLI environment has been functioning well.

I am behind a http proxy, but have exported this variable in my shell. And I know that at least some of these packages are updated from when I last did an upgrade.

Try changing your http proxy in /etc/wgetrc instead.

  • [SOLVED] command not found - can anyone help a newbie out with this

    Hi everyone,
Sorry to be asking such basic information, but I hope you can help...
    I just installed Arch...
I am logged in as root and I get this error:
    # hwd
    -bash: hwd: command not found
For future reference, how should I go about finding out what package(s) I need to install in order to be able to use a particular command?  (in this case, the hwd command)
Also, is there some configuration I may need to perform in order to make a particular command work (in this case hwd) ??
    Thank you!

    Thanks!
Probably the wiki article for Xorg should be updated as it refers the user to use hwd.  I'll see if I can manage to edit it...  I've never edited a wiki before.  I'm learning all sorts of new stuff today :-)

  • [SOLVED] command not found when chrooted into Debian

I have used Debian previously. I have a debian chroot on a separate partition which sole purpose is apache2 server. I use apache2 in chroot, so everytime I reinstall my main system, all my projects are left there in this system untouched. The chroot was created with Debian's debootstrap. Now when I moved from Debian to Arch, I can't use this chroot. When I chroot into it I can't execute any command there, all I get is command not found, even on things such as ls, rm, mv.
Does it mean that I have to create a chroot for server again, using Arch linux or is there a way to get this Debian working?
Last edited by kox (2015-05-02 20:13:22)

I don't think the `arch-chroot` script will work for a Debian system but I could be wrong.
Have you tried mounting /proc, /sys & /dev first and sourcing the shell profiles afterwards?
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ch … ing_chroot
This shouldn't make any difference as the chroot fstab should already have entries for these but you never know...
Maybe you should copy /etc/hosts & /proc/mounts from your new Arch system into your Debian chroot.
    https://wiki.debian.org/Debootstrap
    @WorMzy -- the shell built-ins are not working so I don't think it's a $PATH issue.

The "~/.xmonad/bin" part in the $PATH is wrong. It should have been expanded to /home/$USER/.xmonad/bin; probably because you quoted the tilda in your .zshrc.

    Changing
    SigLevel = Required
    to
    SigLevel = PackageRequired
    in pacman.conf did the trick
No, that was my fault. I updated my release scripts yesterday and the new ones did not create the database signature symlink. I just fixed it about 10 minutes ago.
Change the SigLevel back to Required, otherwise Pacman will not verify the databases. Everything should be working again.
Cheers, upgrading is back to normal (good work on the repo btw)

    Any idea. Thanks you

I've got the same problem with python-scipy instalation.
I tried to install same old version of gcc-fortran and force the numpy instalation, but it doesn't works.
Python wasn't able to import scipy module.
I hope it will be solved early. I'm new in Arch and still very good surprised, but scipy is for me very important.
    Thank You.

  • [solved] libpam not found

Hello, I am currently facing the following problem.
I have to use an Eclipse plugin for my work. At the moment, there are certain issues with this plugin, because it cannot find "libpam.so.0" and "libpam_misc.so.0".
I already checked whether these these file exist with "ls /lib/libpam*". Both files are listed. Also reinstallung the pam package via "sudo pacman -S pam" did not work.
Does anybody know what might cause this issue? Any help with this is really appreciated!
    Thanks in advance
    David

  • [Solved] Init not found for new kernels

    Hello everyone,
I am experiencing this error message when booting using either the linux-3.7.x or linux-ck-3.8.x kernels. I would investigate towards something being wrong with systemd (i.e. the init= line suggested), but the system boots perfectly fine using linux-lts-3.0.56.1.
Relevant information I can think of:
/ is ext4, LVM. The lvm -3 update has not been done yet.
    mkinitcpio 0.13.0-1
I am mostly interested in any direction towards what to investigate -- the fact that there is something wrong with the init not being found, but only for certain kernels, perplexes me.
    Thanks for any help,
    Jan

    /usr is on /.
Here is what lsinitcpio gives me. They all include /usr/bin/init, and in fact the same init related things.
    ~ /boot for i in initramfs-linux-lts.img initramfs-linux.img initramfs-linux-ck.img ; do
    print $i
    lsinitcpio $i | grep init
    done
    initramfs-linux-lts.img
    ./init
    ./init_functions
    ./usr/bin/init
    ./usr/lib/udev/rules.d/11-dm-initramfs.rules
    ./etc/initrd-release
    initramfs-linux.img
    ./init
    ./init_functions
    ./usr/bin/init
    ./usr/lib/udev/rules.d/11-dm-initramfs.rules
    ./etc/initrd-release

    ./init_functions
    ./usr/bin/init
    ./usr/lib/udev/rules.d/11-dm-initramfs.rules
    ./etc/initrd-release
Full output (is there a spoiler tag? couldn't find one)

  • SOLVED wlan0 not found by ifconfig

Network interface device is a wireless usb D-Link DWL-G122 C1.
    Laptop Dell Latitude C600
    kernel-2.6.24-ARCH
I am new to Arch, with some Linux experience. Arch is nice and seems right for my old laptop, but this problem has stumped me. The wireless interface was working for a while then it just stopped coming up - I don't know what triggered the failure, maybe an upgrade, or perhaps deleting the old serialmonkey driver rt73 modules (which no longer worked with the new kernel but sometimes still loaded and needed a 'modprobe -r')
    [root@laptop ~]# ifconfig wlan0 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
    But wlan0 shows up here
    [root@laptop ~]# cat /proc/net/wireless
    Inter-| sta-| Quality | Discarded packets | Missed | WE
face | tus | link level noise | nwid crypt frag retry misc | beacon | 22
    wlan0: 0000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
and also shows in in /proc/net/dev - along with lo and wmaster0.
The driver modules seem to be present (modified list to reduce the post size, hopefully contains relevant items)
    [root@laptop ~]# lsmod
    Module Size Used by
    rt73usb 24320 0
    rt2x00usb 9216 1 rt73usb
    rt2x00lib 17920 2 rt73usb,rt2x00usb
    rfkill 5904 1 rt2x00lib
    input_polldev 3720 1 rt2x00lib
    crc_itu_t 2304 1 rt2x00lib
    mac80211 117132 2 rt2x00usb,rt2x00lib
Interestingly I am unable to remove the module rt73 with 'modprobe -r' or 'rmmod'.
/etc/modprobe.conf has 'alias wlan0 rt73usb' as it's only entry. The device is listed with lsusb. I can find no clues in dmsg or /var/log/messages.log when grepping for wlan0. The same failure occurs with 'netcfg2 wlan0' and also when using wpa_supplicant to try to connect.
Any help with solving this problem would be appreciated.

The device works ok on the laptop with winxp and with a backtrack live cd. I am reluctant to mess with the firmware - unfamiliar territory.
I will try to install an older kernel and see how the rt73 driver goes, it won't work with kernel-2.6.24

  • [SOLVED] eth0 not found after a reboot, among other things

I am having a bit of a crisis here. Updated my packages today and rebooted to find that eth0 was labeled as 'no such device', Xorg freezes on startup, and my bluetooth mysteriously stopped working. I have no idea where to even begin looking for a correlation between these problems.

I'm guessing you don't have /lib as a symlink to usr/lib and you picked up kmod-10.
    Bingo.
    Thank you sir.

  • [SOLVED] SysLinux Not Found on MacbookAir

    Hello,
As you probably can guess from the title, I cannot get syslinux to be picked up by the bios on my Macbook Air. On boot-up Syslinux cannot be detected by the bios as at all.
I have installed arch on more computers then I can count but never on a macbook or a gpt disk so maybe it may have something to do with my partitioning or something.
Here is a screenshot of my partition layout:
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/116 … okDisk.png
I also installed syslinux by installing gptfdisk and then using the automatic installer and no errors occurred.
    Any Suggestions?

Thanks for the reply but I tried before but it doesn't allow me to set any partitions on the drive as bootable as the option isn't even available (I assumed it was because it has a gpt disk)?
