[SOLVED] halt command freeze system (using systemd)

I've run into a little odd thing with a new arch linux test install. I am trying to learn a little about systemd, and thought the best way was to make a new install on my spare PC.
What I've run into is that using the halt command initiates a shutdown, however after displaying "system halt" on the screen, it just stays there.
sometimes I can hear the harddrive spinning down. That's it. Even after waiting for 8 minutes there is no change.
Using the poweroff command (as described on http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/sy … n_Problems ) works fine?
The reboot command works fine as well.
Looking at the journal I am not able to see anything indicating any problem. (although I may not know what to look for)
Am I overlooking something? Please let me know if you need additional information.

see man systemctl:
halt
Shut down and halt the system. This is mostly equivalent to start halt.target but also prints a wall message to all users. If combined with --force shutdown of all running services is skipped, however all processes are killed and all file systems are unmounted or mounted read-only, immediately followed by the system halt. If --force is specified twice the the operation is immediately executed without terminating any processes or unmounting any file systems. This may result in data loss.
poweroff
Shut down and power-off the system. This is mostly equivalent to start poweroff.target but also prints a wall message to all users. If combined with --force shutdown of all running services is skipped, however all processes are killed and all file systems are unmounted or mounted read-only, immediately followed by the powering off. If --force is specified twice the the operation is immediately executed without terminating any processes or unmounting any file systems. This may result in data loss.

  • [Solved] radeon module freezes system with dpm enabled

    Hello,
    I have been running my Radeon HD 5770 with xf86-video-ati (1:7.5.0-1) for quite some time now without any issues. Yesterday, I upgraded mesa and my system started to freeze with a black screen during boot. Blacklisting the radeon module allowed me to boot my system. Attempting to load radeon on a running system will also result in a black screen and a frozen machine. I was not able to recover any log output from the radeon module. Downgrading mesa did not resolve my problem.
    Booting the kernel with radeon.dpm=0 seems to work. The fan noise is reduced by using dynpm for power_method. However, it would be nice to resolve this issue!

    I also experienced this problem when booting the Arch live cd. While the system was frozen, I moved my monitor's DVI connection to the other connector on my card. Suprisingly, the system became unfrozen and continued booting the live cd. Now the issue seems to be gone and I can boot from my harddisc with radeon.dpm enabled.

  • Macbook Pro 2.6ghz i7 2013 system freeze when using Premiere/AME CC 2014

    I have a Macbook Pro i7 2.6ghz form late 2013 and I have been experiencing some serious problems with my system freezing while using Premiere Pro and whilst rendering from AME.
    I am running the latest version of CC (8.1) on OSX 10.9.5.
    GFX card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
    RAM: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    I have CUDA enabled, I need the performance boost so rendering previews of the CPU is not much of a option for me.
    I have experienced this problem since I started running Premiere on my laptop (3 months ago). If I am doing any GPU hungry processes within Premiere or AME the system will freeze, when it freezes nothing will respond and the screen stays frozen, I have to do a manual shut down.
    I went as far as replacing the whole laptop with Apple as they put it down to a faulty GFX card, the new one has the same problem which leads me to think that the problem is with how Premiere and AME work with the new Macbook Pro's.
    These crashes happen up to three times a day if I'm doing a full day of editing and I have to make sure I don't push the system to hard to avoid it, the crashes don't tend to happen when I am editing 5D footage but they are quite frequent when editing 4k GH4 footage. I am working off multiple hard drives with valuable data which are put at risk when the system crashes. I normally work on a 6 core Mac Pro but next week I'll be pushing my laptop pretty hard with a full week of editing and I'd love to avoid these crashes.
    If more info and specs are needed to identify the problem, I'll be happy to provide them.
    Cheers, Moja.
    ps.
    My system just crashed twice today, once while writing this message, I had a project open in Premiere but I wasn't even editing, its currently 30 degrees in Melbourne, one of the hottest days of the year yet, which leads me to believe that the heat is contributing to the GFX card or CPU overloading.

    mojareeves1 wrote:
    I forgot to add that I have also updated to the latest nvidia card driver.
    My music seems to keep playing when the crash occurs which suggests the hard drive and other components are still running fine, its just the GFX card that is crashing.
    The GFX card may be a red herring if it still crashes in software mode and with the internal card.  The fact that you have music playing, however, may be a clue.  Programs that can access your audio hardware (like Soundflower) at the same time as Pr have been known to conflict and cause crashes.  Turn off any background audio processes.  Check your system audio settings, as well as Pr's audio and audio hardware settings. If you can, change the source of Pr's Desktop Audio in Preferences>Audio Hardware.  Try changing the ASIO settings.
    The next (and most painful) step would be to work your way meticulously through this document:
    Troubleshoot system errors, freezes | Mac OS 10.x | Adobe software
    The "Re-create Adobe application preferences" step often helps a lot.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • Maintaining COMMAND in AIX / UNIX Operating system using Transaction SM69

    Hi,
    <b>I need to maintian command in AIX operating system by using transaction SM69.</b>
    Previously we were maintaining COMMAND in Windows NT Operating system using transaction SM69.
    There in SM69 we were using Operating System: Windows NT & OS command: cmd /k
    <b>But now we have to maintain in AIX Operating system.
    could any body tell for operating system: AIX, what "Operating system command" should i give..</b>
    If also I could get any link, that will be more helpful to me.
    Any help will be appreciated and rewarded.

    Hi Sameer,
    1. In case of AIX operating system,
        there is no need to give any such thing like CMD.
      In windows,
      (eg for DIR, we have to give CMD /C DIR)
    2. <b>But in AIX/UNIX, We directly need to give the final command.</b>
       eg: command is ls
       and in parameters we can give -la?
      (note, in aix/unix, command is case sensitive)
    regards,
    amit m.

  • CALL 'SYSTEM' ID 'COMMAND'  cannot be used

    Hello,
    We were just told that with the latest kernal we are going to apply, we can no longer use the following command:
    CALL 'SYSTEM' ID 'COMMAND' FIELD CMD(250)
    We are thinking of using this function to replace it:
    CALL FUNCTION 'SXPG_CALL_SYSTEM'
    Does anyone have any other suggestions on other options we might have?
    Thanks!

    Bill,
    We are using function module SXPG_CALL_SYSTEM in our 4.7 system and it works fine.

  • Backing up - how to solve after copying whole system - login incorrect

    Hello,
    I have done an script to backup the whole filesystem and restore it. I am making tests before using forever.
    For Windows I use ntfsclone and it works perfect, but for ArchLinux I am doing:
    I use Knoppix cd-live to manage everything. I load the script from /dev/sda4 (data partition in ntfs) and the main commands to backup and restore are:
    Without doing chroot (because it is not possible)
    sudo mount /dev/sda5 /media/sda5 #This is the / of ArchLinux
    sudo rsync -aAXv /media/sda5/* /media/sda4/seccopy/ --exclude={/media/sda5/dev/*,/media/sda5/proc/*,/media/sda5/tmp/*,/media/sda5/run/*,/media/sda5/mnt/*,/media/sda5/media/*,/media/sda5/lost+found,/media/sda5/home/*,/media/sda5/var/lib/pacman/sync/*}
    cd /media/sda4/seccopy/
    sudo tar -zcvf /media/sda4/arch_copy.tar.gz ./*
    To restore:
    sudo mount /dev/sda5 /media/sda5
    sudo rm -r /media/sda5/*
    sudo tar -zxvf /media/sda4/arch_copy.tar.gz -C /media/sda5
    I can check that the files are copied correctly.
    I can do (and really do) the same with the home partition, same process but changing sda5 by sda6, and instead of arch_copy.tar.gz, arch_home_copy.tar.gz
    When I restart to boot in the new copied system... the problem:
    I go to the normal grub option for Arch Linux and I try again to put the password for ussr1, and nothing.
    I type it, enter, wait some seconds and prompt me again.
    I try with the root user, and its password, and the same problem. Not access to the system.
    I try in tty1, and the same problem, it says:
    Login incorrect
    First question: How to solve this situation?
    I think maybe the problem is something about /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow, and also I try to make chroot to see if it works.
    If I try to do chroot from Knoppix to the ArchLinux restored, it is not possible, everything goes ok from this wiki:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Change_Root
    but fails in this:
    Note: If you see the error chroot: cannot run command '/bin/bash': Exec format error, it is likely that the two architectures do not match.
    I don't know what is "architectures". I installed x86_64 in ArchLinux.
    Second question: Is because the Knoppix 7.0.4 (debian based) uses other? Like i686?
    I see in Internet this:
    http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/recoverin … -file.html
    It is not my problem, but maybe it is a way to know if is correct or not,...-
    mode "recovery", edit, add to linux line after "ro single": init=/bin/bash
    Ctrl+x
    Logged as root automatically:
    Third question: Why is not prompted the password? And illegitimate user can see everything doing this.
    $ mount -rw -o remount /
    $ mount -rw -o remount /home
    mount: /home not mounted or bad option
    In some cases useful info is found in syslog -try
    dmesg | tail or so
    Fourth question: Why i cannot mount the home? It is in the /dev/sda6, but for the / it didn't say anything to me. I cannot see the /home directory.
    $ cat /etc/passwd
    #- Has the root user and the ussr1 user
    $ cat /etc/shadow
    #- Has the root and ussr1 password coded.
    $ passwd
    Enter new UNIX password:
    Retype new UNIX password:
    Fifth question: Why is not prompted for the before password?     (following the steps i can imagine that this doesn't work, so, is not a security problem)
    $ passwd ussr1
    Enter new UNIX password:
    Retype new UNIX password:
    $ sudo reboot:
    sudo: /usr/lib/sudoers.so must be only be writable by owner
    sudo: fatal error, unable to laod plugins
    $ reboot
    Failed to talk to init daemon.
    $ exit
    exit
    [ 377.105707] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode=0x00000100
    [ 377.105707]
    Sixth question: Why I cannot exit correctly? It also happen if I use the Arch in Live mode (and try to exit).
    The only way to avoid this problem is unpluging from electrical power (not even with the power button).
    I start the system again, I go to the normal grub option for Arch Linux and I try again to put the password for ussr1, and nothing.
    I type it, enter, wait some seconds and prompt me again.
    The same as first question: How to solve this situation?
    My idea is only use Knoppix live-cd to use as backup/restore system, but if it is not possible, I would like to know how to solve.
    The idea of using rsync instead of dd is because I want to save only the data, and not all the sectors (not enough space in the hard disk).
    I don't mind to have to use arch linux usb installation media as it is "knoppix live-cd", the only thing I would like to use is the same media to do all the operations, because I want to teach normal users how to do it by themselves.

    cfr wrote:What's the exit value when you run passwd? (man passwd will show what the exit values mean.)
    value 0 -> success
    cfr wrote:Have you tried changing the password to something *other* than the existing password?
    tried for example with "something" for both, "root" and "ussr1"
    but if I go to /etc/shadow, I see that the passwords coded for root and ussr1 are not the same, so must be coded with other things too.
    cfr wrote:Have you tried creating a new user and logging in as that user?
    I added another user, for example "try"
    useradd -m -g users -s /bin/bash try
    passwd try & echo "$?"
    .. (something)
    0
    Ok, after just add the user, if I go to /home/ I can see some files created automatically, and if I compare those files with the files that I pasted in my ussr1 account, there are two that are missed:
    .xinitrc
    .xsession
    xinitrc is executed by startx (so, it is because the X11..)
    and..ok, xsession the same (xdm/gdm/kdm). So nothing here.
    I also add "try" to the groups: lp, games, video, audio, optical, storage, scanner   with:
    gpasswd -a try lp
    cfr wrote:Have you run pwck and grpck to check the integrity of the files? (I doubt this is the issue but it seems an easy step to do just on the off chance.)
    Ok, if I do:
    $ pwck; echo "$?"
    0
    $ pwck /etc/passwd; echo "$?"
    0
    $ pwck /etc/shadow; echo "$?"
    invalid password file entry
    delete line 'root:ahskldfhajksdfkahsjkdhf...asdkfhjashdkfjh:15795::::::'?
    invalid password file entry
    delete line 'bin:x:14871::::::'?
    so forth..with: root, bin, daemon, mail, ftp, http, uuidd, dbus and nobody
    user 'ussr1': directory '7' does not exist
    user 'polkitd': directory '7' does not exist
    user 'usbmux': directory '7' does not exist
    user 'mysql': directory '7' does not exist
    invalid password file entry
    delete line 'kdm:!:15793::::::'?
    invalid password file entry
    delete line 'avahi:!:15793::::::'?
    user 'try': directory '7' does not exist
    pwck: no changes
    2
    $grpck /etc/group; echo "$?"
    0
    $grpck /etc/gshadow; echo "$?"
    invalid group file entry
    delete line 'root:::root'?
    invalid group file entry
    delete line 'root:::root'?
    invalid group file entry
    delete line 'root:::root'?
    ...so forth
    with: root, bin, daemon, sys, adm, tty, disk, lp, mem, kmem, wheel, ftp, mail, uucp, log, utmp, locate, rfkill, smmsp, http, games, lock, uuidd, dbus, network, video, audio, optical, floppy, storage, scanner, power, nobody, users, systemd-journal, polkitd, usbmux, mysql, kdm, avahi
    grpck: no changes
    2
    So, cat /etc/gshadow | wc -l    = 40 lines
    And grpck /etc/gshadow | wc -l  = 40 lines
    And the same for /etc/shadow = 16 lines and the pwck were 11 "delete line" and 5 "directory '7' does not exist"
    But as we see, even the try has some error... in this case with directory '7'.
    I don't understand why errors... theoretically they were copied and pasted without modifications
    NOTE** Ok, my fault, I have to execute the command like this: $ pwck -r /etc/passwd /etc/shadow; echo "$?"    and now it answers: 0         So, the integrity of both files are correct! And the same with group and gshadow

    $pacman -Qk | grep -v ", 0 missing"
    no results.
    I execute it without doing anything before with pacman, no updating, absolutely nothing.
    pam?
    i search for pam, and i find "pam mount", something like "encrypted home". But Was it activated by default?

    Could someone tell me which file to create, exactly where, and what symlink to link to it? Also, what commands to type then? I just want to execute these simple commands:
    echo "Updating dynamic IP at freedns.afraid.org..."
    wget -qO- http://freedns.afraid.org/dynamic/update.php?YYY &> /dev/null
    Thank you very much! I'm sure this will help others as well.

  • My iMac freezes while using safari.  I have Mavericks installed

    Several times my iMac freezes while using Safari. Only way to get out is to do a hard shut-down by holding the start button.  Any ideas?  Version of Maveriks is 10.9.2

  • Windows 8 freezing when using Firefox

    When I'm using Firefox or Chrome browsers the whole entire PC is freezing.
    Already posted my issue on the Microsoft Community forum, where you can read the details and the troubleshooting steps I tried:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-networking/windows-8-freezing-when-using-chrome-or-firefox/d6bad301-6c55-4469-96cb-0ec3d43e1113
    Also I found another post here on the Mozilla forum, who had the same issue and he did not seem to solve it either: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/975278?esab=a&as=aaq
    Please help me to fix this annoying issue! Thx!

    Well, the MS site was a bust, wasn't it?
    it would help to know how Firefox is configured.
    Can you send me your troubleshooting information from the Firefox installation that's having issues? This is a good part in troubleshooting.
    *Navigate to <code>about:support</code> via Address Bar
    *Click the button that says <code>Copy text to clipboard</code>
    *Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
    Firefox has hardware acceleration set to "on" by default, but it's still young, which means some video cards or drivers might have problems with it. You can try to disable hardware acceleration to see if that alleviates your problems.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps for Firefox version 29.0 and above:
    *Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux. For Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Note that if this issue happens in both Chrome <b>and</b> Firefox that it may be a system issue and not a Firefox related issue,

  • MacBook Pro freezes when using any app other than the web browser.

    My MacBook freezes when using any app other than the web browser. I can open up Google Chrome and use it all day with no problem, but if I minimize it and try to browse through photos in my picture folder or do anything that involves the Finder, the computer just freezes up and I get the rainbow wheel. If I put in a CD to play it, the computer freezes with the rainbow wheel. Any suggestions? I would like to use the mac for more things than the internet.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • X-Fi Titanium Freezes System Windows 8.1 Enterprise X64

    I didn't have any problem on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 operating system. When i started to use Windows 8.1 Enterprise X64 edition , likely once in ~1 hour operating system freezes and very loud annoying sounds came from speakers(which is connected to the soundcard) and i have to hard reset computer. This happens while playing games and watching videos. If i disable the soundcard from hardware devices and if i use onboard sound, problem solves.
    My operating system, hardware drivers and bios all up-to-date.
    I tried everything, (Completely removed all driver and softwares, installed the newest ones.)
    Is it only me ?
    I think, something is terribly wrong with Creative's Windows 8.1 drivers . Or my soundcard dying ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please check if the Windows Server 2012 is still UNABLE to detect the external NTFS drive after attach the drive from the Windows 8.1 back to the Windows Server 2012.
    A RAW filesystem simply means that it is a filesystem that is not recognized by Windows. The most common cause of external hard drives suddenly becoming RAW drives is if they are disconnected from a computer without using the “Safely Remove Hardware” option.
    You can use the Dskprobe tool (Dskprobe.exe) to make repairs to check it the issue still exist on the Windows Server 2012.
    What is this Raw File System

  • Ping system using email

    Hi,
    I am currently writing a monitoring system for a few systems in our lab. I can currently command the system to send all the important data to a specified email address however I would like to do this remotely.
    Is it possible to set it up so I can email the vi with a set phrase, this would cause the vi to reply with the relevent data to the same address?
    The main purpose of this is so it can be easily accessed on a smart phone so vpn type solutions are not viable, i just want access to a specific array.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You could do this in a roundabout sort of way if you are using Outlook as your email client.
    Make a seperate Labview program to grab the data and email it.
    Set up a rule in Outlook that looks for certain key words in the subject like "Send Data Now" and set "Start Application" as the action to perform and have it launch the seperate LabView program to grab the data and email it.
    Then all you need to do is send an email to your account with the proper subject line and Outlook should do the rest.
    For multipule machines make a slightly different rule on each machine like subject contains "Send Data Now Unit 1" for one system and use "Send Data Now Unit 2" for the next one, and so on...
    That way you only need one email account.

  • [SOLVED] just did an update - seeing systemd related info from pacman

    EDIT:   re-reading through the archlinux grub2 docs, I just saw this:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GR … _arguments    ... hoping that's all I have to do for a smooth reboot?
    I just got done with major epic headaches dealing with the  'The /lib directory becomes a symlink' issue from 2012-07-14 - in fact I had to just freaking do a complete reinstall.  ( it went with no issues on one of my pc's, then when I later tried a major upgrade on my other pc, it all went to bloody hell )
    ... so, I _just_ got the other pc running via fresh install yesterday, and today I do a 'pacman -Syu'...  to get another ominous sounding warning of possible impending doom...
    I'm concerned about the "Append 'init=/bin/systemd' to your kernel command line in your bootloader to replace sysvinit with systemd" :
    # pacman -Syyu

    Question #1: Will my system boot if I _don't_ add the "init=/bin/systemd" to my kernel command line in my bootloader?
    Question #2: I'm using grub2 via bios MBR; yesterday when I installed the new system using the latest archlinux install iso, I generated the grub2 conf using the "grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg" technique... which build a crazy looking conf that looks more like a shell script than anything.  ( I'm used to editing the old grub1 config manually, and it made sense to me ).  So where the heck am I supposed to put this 'init=/bin/systemd' pragma?
    Assistance and advice much appreciated!

    Hi,
    according to the mailing list they just merged libsystemd and systemd-tools to the systemd package. Since the initscripts are still present, you can leave it alone and it will boot as usual. The message is more like a friendly 'C'mon, we'll going to switch to systemd anytime soon, so just give it a try.'.
    I haven't used grub2 for a while, but there should be a file called /etc/default/grub where you can add GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="init=/bin/systemd". Then regenerate the configuration via grub-mkconfig and you are good to go.
    Edit: Too late
    Thanks for your time in responding though anyhow - much appreciated!   (c8=

  • Safari freezes when using citrix

    I use Safari to log in remotely to my work IT system using citrix. This used to work perfectly, but ever since I upgraded to OS X Tiger, Safari regularly freezes when logged in through the citrix system. The only solution once its frozen is to force quit. I have tried Firefox but that has the same problems. I'm guessing therefore that it may be an OZ X Tiger problem??
    The IT administrator at my work tells me that my citrix session is always fine - so it is a problem somewhere on my Mac causing this freeze-up.
    The specific trigger for Safari freezing is always a pop-up message in my office Outlook system when I am trying to open html-rich messages.
    I am using Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3)
    Please can somebody help me solve this as it is driving me mad!
    Many thanks

    Hi again:
    Did you run permission repair and repair disk?
    Try a couple of other things:
    clear the Safari cache
    trash theSafari prefernce file (com.apple.safari.plist)
    another thought.... do a find on "plist" and see if there is a Citrix preference file. If there is, trash it as well.
    Restart and see if things improve.
    I am out of my depth when one talks about java/javascript settings. The Safari only freezing with Citrix is really odd. Can your IT people give you any help? Mine got me running very quickly and I have never had any problem.
    I run (as you see) a plain vanilla OS X 10.4.8, completely up to date.
    If none of this works, the only other step would be to do an archive and install - but that is a bit more work than might be necessary.
    If none of the above helps, then let me suggest you post the problem as a new thread - documenting everything you have tried and the Citrix/Safari not playing well together problem. A new thread will get more readership - including people who know the java stuff.
    Since I have not had a problem myself, the things I suggested were more or less "standard" troubleshooting steps.

  • My keyboard freezes after using the option key... what gives?

    I have a 17" MacBookPro with OSX 10.6.8
    The problem:   My keyboard key freeze after using the " option key"  in Photoshop or  when downloading a file using the option key.
    I can usually use it 2 or 3 times before it makes a chirping cricket like sound… then my keys freeze up.? The only way to correct it is to restart.
    Anyone else have or had this issue?   it's frustrating.  What's the deal?

    Thanks for your explanation!
    Can I just bring my laptop to the nearest service center and get this problem solved directly? You know, usually it will takes several days to receive the backup keyborad, I can't wait
    You'll have to phone the service center and ask. (When I lived not far from Lenovo's Canadian service center and wanted to bring in a ThinkPad for warranty repair they said that would be OK with them but my unit would be put on a queue the same as if I'd shipped it in. They simply didn't offer walk-in, while you wait service.)
    In the interim it may or may not be possible to reattach the key, even just temporarily, depending on whether it wasn't put on properly at the factory or if it's physically broken in some way. Or you could use an external keyboard until Lenovo sends you a replacement, etc.
    I've just call the local service center, he told me that he can not repair individual key, they can just replace the whole keyboard..... How bad luck I am!!!
