[SOLVED] Hauppauge PVR-500 - Cannot request encoder memory region.

Hello all
I need some help getting this card to work on my two year old mythbox that's been tunerless since day one.
I installed the card, ivtv-utils and did pacman -Syu
but, I have no video devices in /dev
This is whats happening during startup.

I just got this tuner card used off eBay so I don't know if something is wrong with the card itself or not.  It seems to be in pretty good shape, it came with all the original packaging.  If all else fails I can drag out an old system and install Windows Xp on it to test it.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Your problem looked interesting, so I thought I'd dig down underneath the covers. But this is a single person's opinion as a driver developer, but not a Linux driver developer... A massive difference... So take it with a healthy dose of skepticism.
But the bottom line is my opinion is that you might want to head on over to the LinuxTV.org folks and see what they have to say.
The tldr; version follows:
I drilled down on this error message: "ivtv0: Cannot request encoder memory region."
That comes from the drivers/media/pci/ivtv/ivtv-driver.c file... and here's the snippet of code from the latest "linux-stable" code tree in the "ivtv_setup_pci" function:
if (!request_mem_region(itv->base_addr, IVTV_ENCODER_SIZE, "ivtv encoder
IVTV_ERR("Cannot request encoder memory region.\n");
return -EIO;
It appears that call is attempting to map the PCI IO memory for your PCI adapter... and it fails with that -EIO (-5) error code.
There can be multiple reasons for the failure, but the LinuxTV folks may be able to determine the reason for your particular instance.

    This is indeed a problem in the lirc 0.8.2 package in extra.   I have submitted a bug with a fixed PKGBUILD of lirc 0.8.3.

  • [SOLVED] mythtv - No picture using Hauppauge pvr-150

    Hi All,
      I have just set up mythtv but cannot get a live picture using the Hauppauge pvr 150.  The card is working (thanks to enrique) and can both stream video and record video either live or in a cron job. I am attaching the cable directly to the card instead of using a digital cable box.  This limits the available channels but thats OK since this connection probably won't be used that often.
      I don't recall seeing any options specifying whether the cable connection is analog or digital, nor do I recall seeing any options pertaining to the video card.   I don't know what I'm doing wrong so any and all tips will be appreciated.
    Thanks
      Larry

    Problem Solved:
       The dodo (Me), kept putting the card in as "analog v4l device" which is how myth set it up.
       It should be MPEG-2 encoder card (PVR-x50,500).
       I just wasn't being careful enough to check all possibilities.
       Seems to be working.
       Maybe that will help someone.

  • SAP DBTech JDBC: [4]: cannot allocate enough memory: Out of memory

    Hello,
    I am currently experiencing this error when making request to the Hana database via jdbc : SAP DBTech JDBC: [4]: cannot allocate enough memory: Out of memory
    I guess I am running out of space, so I wanted to delete some data from unused tables. The problem is that I cannot connect with Studio anymore "Error when connecting to system".
    Is there another way to delete data from some tables when getting this particular error ?
    Does anyone experienced such a situation ?
    Thank you,
    Benoît

    Hi Benoit,
    Please plan to migrate to the latest version from Rev 38 before 1 year license expires in Rev 38 in Oct 2013. You need to export your content and import in the latest version.
    As you are aware, a lot of bugs are fixed between Rev 38 and the newer releases along with new SPS5 features  and HANA One is adding new web based management features in each HANA One release which does not need SSH to stop|start HANA as it can be done in browser starting in Rev 52 (check out The specified item was not found.for additional info). Please stay tuned for the upcoming version which will have additional management features to manage your instance.
    Thanks,
    Swapan

  • Grub error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory

    I installed arch, systemrescuecd, and trinity rescue kit on a usb stick. I used the mbr arch installed, grub 0.97, and edited the menu.lst to boot all os'es on the usb.
    SystemRescueCD provides an os with all kinds of "rescue" tools, but also other tools like GAG(gag.sourceforge.net/index.html), Memtest86, FreeDos etc, which can be booted from the bootloader.
    But, when I try to boot GAG, Memtest86, or FreeDos, grub gives me an error saying "error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory". According to grub, my lower memory is 630K, and my upper memory is about 3.4GiB. The GAG "kernel", is 24.7 kb, and the GAG initrd is 267.8 kb.
    This is not really arch related, I know, but still, if you can help me, I'd be very thankful. Google doesn't seem to help me on this one.

    Hello again,
    i tried with Solaris 10 5/08 on VMware ESX 3.5 and VMware Server 2, both failed. I tried several ISO images, mounted as ISO or DVD, altered BIOS parameters in VMware ESX, but nothing works for me.
    VMs where created with 1024mb RAM and 8GB disk space, more than recommended.VMware seems to be more successful with installing Solaris10:
    http://pubs.vmware.com/guestnotes/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=guestnotes&file=choose_install_guest_os.html#3888649
    It seems to be a problem of GRUB in Solaris 10 5/08, but i don't know how to solve it. Every idea might be a great help for me.

  • Error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory

    Dear Forum,
    I am trying to install Solaris 10 x86 OS into my SFX4200 server through Remote Control feature. I had setup the bios to 1st boot from CDROM and 2nd boot from Disk.
    So, i inserted Solaris 10 x86 media into my laptop. Then i connected my laptop directly to the ILOM using cross cable. From the ILOM web page i had launch the Remote Control. I powered on the SFX4200 and i can see the boot up process through the Remote Control window. The boot up process has successfully read my laptop Solaris 10 x86 media.
    At the end of the boot up process i saw three(3) option for me to choose:
    1. Solaris
    2. Solaris ttya
    3. Solaris ttya( SFV60x and SFV65x )
    I had selected, option #1 and #2 but few seconds later, i saw this error message "Error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory"
    This is my laptop configuration:
    - Microsoft Windows XP Pro
    - 512 MB of RAM
    - 40GB disk and 7GB available space.
    Has anyone encountered the same problem.
    Please, can someone help and guide me to solve my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hspaans,
    First of all, thanks for the reply.
    I believe my machine has sufficient amount of memory. The following are the spec of my SFX4200 server:
    1x Dual Core AMD Opteron Processor 280( 2.4GHz )
    4x 2GB of Memory
    Fyi, i had also tried to start the installation using optin # 2 " Solaris ttya " but still failed.
    I will be much appreciate if you can help me or guide me to install Solaris 10 x86 OS through SFX4200 Remote Control window( Install OS using my laptop DVD Drive ).
    Please let me know, if you require more information.

  • Hauppauge PVR-150 Capture, Audio Static/Noise IVTV Composite input

    Hello,
    This is my first post.
    I have been migrating from Gentoo to Arch after 7-8 years using gentoo, I think Arch is great. even though precompiled packages have there downside. anyway.
    I have problem with static/noise audio when capturing from Composite using IVTV, im running kernel 3.0.4 arch kernel.
    I have 10  Hauppauge PVR-150 (+1 PVR-500) Cards running, the problem occurs in a random card after reboot.
    Video is fine on all cards, but sometimes the audio on either one of the 11 cards get static/noise in the audio background.. sometimes allot, other times just a little bit noise/static.
    I tried the wiki, and searched the forum, but can't find a solution, can anyone help me??
    I can provide sample (cat /dev/videoX > sample.mpeg) if interested.
    See dmesg: http://pastebin.com/U2JnJ0Zr
    Thank you

    Hello,
    changing to constant bitrate seems to correct the problem,
    v4l2-ctl -d /dev/videoX --set-ctrl=video-bitrate-mode=1
    and then remember to not have the capture source audio volume to more than 75%.

    Hi,
    This error is occuring from Adapter level. Mapping program is successfully exceuting without any transformation error. And we have imported 3 or 4 times to SAP-XI from SAP R/3 system. Is there any refresh at Adapter level ? Does it require refresh for our problem ?
    If we are sending  a data of 33.4(dot instead of comma) and 3,4 (reduced one digit), We are able to invoke the RFC and get the response.
    But if we are sending an data of 33,4, it is throwing the same error.
    Please find the error message:

    Hi ,
    Thank you for your question.
    This error was caused by the incorrect site binding, I will give a reference of my test Lab. We add two A records in DNS which the FQDN of CAS and Mailbox could resolve IP address.;

    Here are my kernel params:
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65500
    net.core.rmem_default = 1048576
    net.core.rmem_max = 4194304
    net.core.wmem_default = 262144
    net.core.wmem_max =1048536

  • Change requests encoding

    Hello!!
    I wonder if there is a way of changing server requests encoding. I use the proxy jar of the deployed services in OC4J (jdeveloper 10.1.2.) to access them, and I have noticed that the request are encoded usingUTF-8, however I would like to use ISO-8859-1 instead. Is it possible?
    Could you be so kind as to help me, please?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
    Sorry, I didn't program myself the same senario, however you can check unicode demo programs TECHED_UNICODE_SOLUTION*, and presentation 'How to Make Your ABAP Code Unicode-Enabled' from Dr. Christian Hansen.
    You can also use the following classes:
    CL_ABAP_CONV_OUT_CE system code page >  any code page
    CL_ABAP_CONV_X2X_CE any code page > any code page
    CL_ABAP_CONV_IN_CE any code page > system code page
    Hope it helps.
    best regards,
    Peter

  • Cannot create virtual memory swap file

    Hello,
    I'm getting an error message when i execute the query of a workbook.
    The message I receive is "Cannot create virtual memory swapfile "\EuZ""
    Something to note is that my workbook opened and ran fine in the morning and started crashing in the afternoon.
    I started the workbook on another user's machine
    and works fine... for now.
    I look in the .INI that are created when i open discoverer and found nothing.
    If there is a setting to change or
    someone knows about that problem, let me know.
    NOTE: The version i'm running is dicoverer 9.0.2.39.01
    under windows 2000 (SP3)
    Thank you
    Yan

    This is a (sometimes) bug, at least in Discoverer 3.1 and I see it on some machines when I first install Discoverer. One or two queries may work, and then your message (with garbage characters for the "file name") from then on.
    The program seems to fail to correctly set the cache sizes in the registry (or ini file or whatever it's saving stuff) from the Preferences.
    What fixes it for us (every time) is:
    1. Pull down the [Tools] menu.
    2. Select [Options].
    3. (Scroll right if needed to) select the [Cache] tab.
    4. Set the [Memory Cache] and [Disk Cache] values. You can set them to the values they were going to default to anyway, just type in there and then put it back to the original value so it sees they were "modified" and saves the values when you...
    5. click [OK]
    Apparently the installation defaults are not reliably saved in the first place. "Changing" them in the [Options] dialog will, however, reliably set them and that always cures this problem for our users.
