[SOLVED]Installing steam in optimus and lib32-libgl dependency problem

Hello everyone!
I have a problem concerning the installation of steam under arch_64 on a laptop with Optimus. I have succesfully installed Bumblebee with Nvidia 319.17-2, everything works fine. I have also installed lib32-nvidia-utils which is version 319.17-1. Now I try to install steam:
[root@VOSTRO onur]# pacman -S steam
resolving dependencies...
:: There are 3 providers available for lib32-libgl:
:: Repository multilib
1) lib32-mesa-libgl 2) lib32-nvidia-304xx-utils 3) lib32-nvidia-libgl
Enter a number (default=1):
The problem arises at this point:
1) I am using nvidia, so I can't use mesa.
2) I have installed driver 319.17 with the corresponding util package, so not this one.
3) I guess this is the answer. But since I am using bumblebee, I checked the wiki page (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee)  and under section 2.1 there is a note:
Note: Do not install lib32-nvidia-libgl! Bumblebee will find the correct lib32 nvidia libs without it.
This leaves me confused. What am I supposed to do at this point? Is it a problem on Bumblebee's part? Or since lib-32-nvidia-304xx-utils is legacy now, shouldn't the dependency be updated to include the latest nvidia-utils package 319.17-1? Or am I missing something?
Any kind of insight will be deeply appreciated.
NOTE: Just before submitting this post, I learned that there was Optimus support in the beta release of this driver, but in the release notes of the released version contains nothing about Optimus
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-disp … river.html
so I guess installing Bumblebee was not a mistake?

I have pretty much the same problem.
I went for lib32-mesa-libgl and uninstalled lib32-nvidia-libgl.  Problem was that Steam did not find libgl.so so i had to install lib32-intel-dri too.
Now steam works but i cannot use the nvidia GPU..... if i set launch options to "primusrun %command%" then dota2 does not launch.
optirun glxgears works.
primusrun glxgears works.
Even all CUDA examples work.
what could be the problem?

  • [SOLVED] Install xfce 4.10 and lost most permissions

    Hello all,
I haven't used a DE before and decided to use xfce 4.10. Once I installed everything it seems to work properly but a few programs have stopped working without errors.
My dropbox daemon isn't updating my folder, firefox addons are not working (only some), my sound works intermittently (might be a different problem) and I cant update deluge preferences.
This looks like a classic permissions issue but I did nothing to the user.
I am launching from XFCE panels, not sure if this is it. I also had not issues until the DE was installed. (I previously used awesome WM)
    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!!
    EDIT:
Turns out I am dumb and let my root directory run out of space. This made a lot of things run oddly. Also I updated my dropbox and it seems to be working quite well now!
    Sorry for the noise! :)

  • [SOLVED] Preferred frontend for wine and a Counter-Strike problem

    Hello,
Whats the preferred front end for wine or should I use the vanilla version? I'm planning to play Steam Counter-Strike (1.6 version), maybe WOW.
Also, if someone knows. I installed bin32-wine from arch-games and playonlinux from AUR on 64bit host. Wine 1.1.33.  Installed fonts - verdana, tahoma, arial. And Steam. When I load Counter-Strike 1.6, I can only see the background. I don't see menu or console. I can press buttons blind and hear them click. I can type in console blind. But I don't see anything except for the background.
Actually, bin32-wine does not even load any more. Only playonlinux does.

Sounds like bin32-wine is broken or  there is a regression in wine with CS.
I would just use bash scripts + wine as frontend.

  • Installed Mac OS Lion and now have internet problems??

So, I've installed the new Mac OS Lion on my MacBook Pro and now can only connect to the internet using Firefox - no Safari, no app store or anything else for that matter.  Has anyone else experienced the same problems?
I've never had this problem on Snow Leopard and when I go through the Network Diagnostics it says that the internet connection (Wi-Fi) is perfect?!
    What's going on??
I'm now having serious doubts of why I upgraded...

    Check out this troubleshooting guide:

  • Two GPUs, two purposes - libgl and nvidia-utils conflict - lib32-libgl

    Hi all!
After realizing there is no way (by now) to perform a vgs switch (between integrated Intel and discrete Nvidia GPUs) using nvidia propertary driver (as I read, the only one supporting gpgpu with cuda/openCL), I wondered if there is a way of letting them co-exist: graphics on the integrated one and applications on the nvidia. After all, I might not need to be using the discrete card for the video if I want to use it for other purposes.
Obeviously, the tho drivers conficlt (nvidia-utils conflicts with libgl), but in this post a workaround is suggested.
Thing is, also lib32-nvidia-utils and lib32-libgl (Skype depends on it) conflict, so I thought I could just extend the suggestion, but I couldn't find lib32-libgl's pkgbuild. Where can I find it? If it doesn't exist at all, is there a way I can workaround?
By the way, why aren't libgl and lib32-libgl on abs? In what way are they different from the others?
There is libgl-git in AUR, but I couldn't find the 32-bit version.
Do you think I have a chanche it'll work?
    Thanks a lot

So you think it'll never work
Actually, it is working now. It's a recent development posted in the mailing lists, but the solution came up yesterday and tests have been positive so far. It's confirmed to work in at least two Optimus machines.
Progress is being posted in the mailing lists, but the author, Martin Juhl, is also blogging it. I'll just sum up what the solution: It resorts to turbojpeg  VirtualGL and two xorgs. The intel card does everything, and apps meant to use the nvidia are specifically run with vglrun.
Unfortunately, the solution removes hardware acceleration in the intel card (immediately noticeable by the absence of desktop effects). In arch that translates the libgl / nvidia-utils conflict.
    intel-dri demands libgl.
    xf86-video-intel demands intel-dri.
In order to install nvidia + nvidia-utils in Arch, without removing intel-dri and xf86-video-intel, you have to:
    # pacman -Sd nvidia nvidia-utils
This will still remove libgl, though.
Now THAT is just cool... would make optimus laptops so much more useful if/when it works reasonably well. Sounds like quite a bit of hackery involved though.

  • [SOLVED]Make Pacman think that I have libgl (NVIDIA driver)

    Hi,
I've installed my Nvidia driver manualy because my card (NVS 310) do not work with the packages provides by pacman (even in AUR).
Now I have a problem because pacman think I do not have
    libgl
and do not allows me to install any graphical tools like libreoffice even if I ignore libgl:
    pacman -S libreoffice-fresh --ignore libgl

I cannot install one of these package because then conflict with my manual install:
    pacman -S libgl

    1) mesa-libgl 2) nvidia-304xx-libgl 3) nvidia-340xx-libgl 4) nvidia-libgl

So my question is: Is there a way to make pacman understand that I have installed libgl manualy so it do not ask me to install it?
    Thanks
The possible workaround is to remove my driver manually install any libgl than re-install manualy the driver and ignore libgl in the pacman configuration. But this is REALLY ugly...

Thanks for your reply, that was fast!
Make my own package is definitly the right way to do this and I will when I have some time.
For now I tried the workaround I mentioned before:

  • [SOLVED] All Steam games are un-installed

I just logged into steam, it said I hadn't logged in from this computer before, sent me an email with the "Steam Guard Code" and now all my games are grey and need to be installed!
I checked ~/.local/share/Steam/common/ and the games are still there taking up disk space...
Has this happened to anyone else? Or am I alone?
    [SOLVED]
I solved this by installing Osmos and seeing that the game directory is now:
    ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/...
I just moved the common files and *.acf files over:
    $ pwd
    /home/nak/.local/share/Steam/common
    $ mv ../../common/* .
    $ pwd
    /home/nak/.local/share/Steam

    The post I linked to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1330764 says
You're doing an update and something is trying to install mesa-libgl which conflicts with the already installed nvidia-libgl.
Find out which package is it.
In your case it conflicts with catalyst-utils, not with nvidia-libgl.
You cant deny that they are really similiar, I didnt note, my bad.
How can I find that package?
I cannot remove catalyst-utils, as I need to use that..
Yes, I knew it conflicted with catalyst-utils that why I made a new thread. In that thread it got solved by waiting. For me, Im having this problem since some days, and now I got some time to post here and try to fix it.
    thanks

I am having the same issue. I noticed it about a week ago. I hadn't updated in a bit, so I did. Same problem. When I reboot, it works the first time, but it won't work again after that.

  • [SOLVED] lib32-libgpg-error and lib32-libgcrypt no longer working

The Dell 1320c printer requires a workaround of using it with a FujiXerox DocuPrint C525a driver, which only exists for 32bit systems.  In order to get it running, you need to manually copy the files to the proper locations.  With the new upgrade on both of those packages (lib32-libgpg-error and lib32-libgcrypt) the filter file /usr/lib/cups/filters/FXM_PF no longer runs, and complains about "wrong ELFCLASS64", which I take it to mean it's not recognizing/finding the lib32 packages.  I've since downgraded and added the packages to the IgnorePkg array in pacman.conf, but I wanted to point it out to anyone who may have the same issue, or in case it was an error with the generation of the packages.  Or is there simply a dependency that hasn't yet been updated?
*EDIT* Thanks to Wonder for fixing it (or letting us know it was fixed)!

Kirurgs wrote:Exactly the same error with Lotus Notes. Dowgrading package solves the problem.
New packages are couple of bytes in size, which is waaaay smaller than previous versions.
Smart thinking, I didn't think to check the size of the packages.  Same thing here, lib32-libgcrypt is 4Kb vs 240Kb (working package), and lib32-libgpg-error is 4Kb vs 8Kb (working package).  For the lib32-libgpg-error it might be due to the new compression format, but I doubt that.  I doubt very much that .xz compression can result in a change of 1/60th the original size for lib32-libgcrypt.

I am installing a time capsule and I have to solve a  last problem, bsGN and the system asks for "a value for bsGN is required", I have no idea what that means. Can anybody help me please? Thank you.

There is no value bsGN in a Time Capsule.
Where is this request coming from?
    Please give a screenshot.
Who is the ISP? What kind of modem is it?
I can find no info relevant to bsGN .. you will need to give us specifics or ring your ISP about it.
Is bsGN even English?? Is it the ISP name??

I tried to remove mesa-libgl but it's a dependency for some other things. I'm guessing mesa is for my intel graphics, which I won't need with the new nvidia cards I've installed, or will I still need mesa?
Any help to get around this would be great.

  • [SOLVED] "mesa-libgl and nvidia-libgl-beta are in conflict"

I just tried to install blueman (GTK+ bluetooth manager), and I was greeted with the pleasant message:
    :: mesa-libgl and nvidia-libgl-beta are in conflict (libgl). Remove nvidia-libgl-beta? [y/N]
I've looked it up and seen many similar scenarios (with nvidia-libgl instead of nvidia-libgl-beta), but they all seemed to be resolved by uninstalling nouveau; I don't have that installed.
Any ideas as to where I should go from here?

I just built it with makepkg and it worked. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
