[SOLVED] IPS Monitor Resolution Not Detected

I just got one of the new Catleap 27" IPS monitors. It works fine in Windows at its native 2560x1440 but arch doesn't seem to be detecting it properly
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 2720 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384
DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-2 connected 800x600+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
800x600 60.3*+
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-3 connected 1920x1080+800+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 531mm x 298mm
1920x1080 60.0*+ 60.0
1440x900 59.9
1280x1024 60.0
1280x800 59.8
1152x864 75.0
1024x768 70.1 60.0
800x600 60.3 56.2
640x480 59.9
DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DVI-I-3 is my second monitor (a regular LCD) which works fine. I think DVI-I-2 is the Catleap. Oddly, the manual says it supports 800x600 but it won't even turn on when X is started. Also it works fine when X isn't started. Whenever I switch to a different TTY my second monitor turns off and the Catleap turns on (albeit at a low resolution).
I've tried adding a new resolution mode with xrandr, but that gives me an error
# xrandr --newmode "2560x1440_60.00" 312.25 2560 2752 3024 3488 1440 1443 1448 1493 -hsync +vsync
# xrandr --addmode DVI-I-2 2560x1440_60.00
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 153 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode)
Serial number of failed request: 37
Current serial number in output stream: 38
I've tried various xorg.conf settings and using nvidia-settings, but nothing I do can get it to use a higher resolution or even turn on for that matter. I'm not sure if my dual monitor setup could be screwing with it. I've tried disconnecting my second monitor but that doesn't seem to help.
I found this article, which says that the Catleap's EDID isn't in Linux by default so you can specify it manually. So I set up my xorg.conf.d directory as follows
# 90-serverlayout.conf
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Main"
Screen 0 "Acer V243"
Screen 1 "Catleap Q270" LeftOf "Acer V243"

Which doesn't work. The Catleap still won't turn on and the mouse position is all screwed up on my Acer. If I comment out the screen 1 line in the ServerLayout, the Acer works fine on its own.

Switching to the open source driver fixed my problem.

  • New monitor can not detect signal from new referb pc

Monitor is a new flat screen,  model 2310m full HD with  vga, hdmi, and dvi-d connectors and boot up CD which includes pdf manual and video drivers etc..
PC is a referb Pavilion M9200t first time started since referb with a G-Force GT graphics card (1 gigabite) and dual DVI-D connections. No VGA or HDMI out. OS is vista ultimate that I will probably update to windows 7 if I ever get it set up. Monitor does not get a signal from new PC with DVI-D cable or a VGA cable with an adapter. Monitor works fine with my old XP PC after installing drivers  and using the vga cable. New PC has no VGA out, so I bought a VGA to DVI-D adapter thinking that it would have proper drivers for a VGA monitor with no success. I also tried new PC on my old monitor with the DVI-D adapter on the VGA cable and that didn't work either. I can't do a first run setup without a monitor and the monitor won't work without a signal.
I bought the PC from a friend who decieded to buy a laptop instead and had never started it. He bought it from someone who was selling referbs on E-bay and messed up and accidently started the warranty period  or so they say.
Also when I plug the PC in the fan starts and continues running till I do a hard shutdown, that is holding start button down till the PC shuts off. If I unplug and replug the computer it starts again without pushing start button. Does anyone think it is the graphics card issue or maybe power supply, or just not booting at all?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.------Thanks in advance.----Larry

Ok, thats the procedure I was talking about earlier. I did that bios default factory reset just now. First the version 6 and earlier. It didn't work so I tried version 7 and later and that didn't work. I then tried version 6 and earlier again only this time pushed F10 more rapidly and got right in right when I got to the F5 and enter portion. Then I pushed F10 again to save the change and enter again to close. The PC didn't boot up the next screen like the test said it would. So I did it all again and spent some time reading what was on the bios pages but  accidently pushed ESC as the bios menu suggested instead of enter to close out   . No boot up screen again. I did another hard shutdown and then unplugged the cord for 5 minutes and this time the PC stayed off when I plugged it back in. The bios are set to default but I cannot get it to start again in safe mode or boot up. So if the power supply is working properly, and the monitor worked in safe mode, then the video card must be good. right?
So I'm editing from the night before, its Monday morning here in Wi. and I'm sorry to say that after leaving the PC unplugged all night that when I plugged it back in this morning, the dumb thing started again without pushing the  start button.  So the only thing doing a recovery on the bios accomplished was to prove that my the video card can run the monitor in safe mode which is a good thing I guess. Hope someone has an idea as to what else I can try.-------thanks

  • [Solved] Catalyst and RandR not detecting monitors

    SOLUTION
The xorg.conf that CCC configures, even when xinerama is disabled, does not work with RandR. I gutted everything so only my primary monitor was in xorg.conf, then added the line 'Virtual' where appropriate with the correct square size of my total monitor space. xrandr then detects everything fine, and was able to use xrandr to get the screens working. Openbox only needs one session. Life is good.

    Hi,
I'm moving from Xinerama (Which worked well for most things) to RandR. To get randr loading first thing I did was disable Xinerama in Catalyst Control Centre, restarted X.
My xorg.conf (Generated by CCC) has all monitors and modes listed correctly, and my middle (Primary) monitor (DFP5) works fine. My two sides, DFP9 and DFP10, are blank. I can move the cursor over to them, but that's about it.
xrandr does not appear to detect DFP9 and DFP10 as being connected.
I am using catalyst-total from AUR.
I've included all info I think may be helpful.
    EDIT:
Seems my main issue was that Openbox needs a session on each X screen. So I can now use each X screen, but I can't alt tab across every window because the sessions don't talk to each other. randr still does not work though.

  • Resolutions not detected...

I have two Samsung HD (1920 x 1080) monitors connected to my MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 via a Zotac HDMI dual adapter to the computers Mini display port.
My computer had been detecting these monitors as a single 3840 x 1080 resolution monitor (ie. the combined resolution of two HD screens) ever since I first connected them, but now suddenly it won't detect this resolution and will only see them as the same 1920 x 1080 input, so they are basically operating as mirrored displays of each other.  this obviously makes one of them superfluous and I would like to be able to detect them as before, as a 3840 x 1080 resolution spanning the two monitors.
Any ideas how I can restore this?  Thanks...

bjackman wrote:I don't know what 773 means, but it looks like an octal permissions setting. That seems improbable though. I'd be very interested if anyone knew.
Every resolution in the vbios has a number. Maybe it's an index or something. But basically, that's it. See the list in the first post, the numbers in []? Add 512 to those and there you have it.
For standard resolutions (320x200-1280x1024), the numbers are the same in every vbios. For non-standard ones that may or may not be there, the numbers differ. An example: In my specific vbios, 865 means 1280x800-32. Bananabrain's vbios doesn't even have 1280x800.

  • IPS monitoring Events Notes

    Dear all,
I have a group of IPS/IDS installed in our network monitoring multiple segments.
Usually, and for years I do find always events with matching severity high or medium in addition to low and informational.
From around two months and till now, while monitoring those IPS/IDS I noticed that I am not finding any event with severity High or Medium although before there was daily logs with the high & Medium Severity and all the group of IPS / IDS is affected with the same behavior not only on one device.
I will be happy if everything is running normally with no matching severity, but I am afraid that there is something wrong with the monitoring of our IPS /IDS Systems.
I find logs with low and informational severity only.
Please advise if I can do any troubleshooting
    Regards,

I will assume you have not changed anything on your sensors to explain this difference. It can be accounted for by the normal signature update process. Cisco will phase out (retire) or modify old or poorly performing signatures (prone to false positives) over time. In order to test this idea, take some of the old medium and high severity signature that used to fire and check what their current setting are in your sensors. If they're retired or have been updated, this may account for the difference.

  • (Solved) [Intel HDA] Headphones not detected

    Hi there,
I'm having an annoying issue since I've installed (and re-installed) Arch on my netbook.
Everything's alright (except Gnash, but I'll google that later), the internal speakers work perfectly but when I put my headphones or my speakers (ext.) the internal speakers are "muted-off" (so the jack is detected, right?) but nothing's coming out from my headphones/speakers.
    Here's my aplay -l out :
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: Conexant Digital [Conexant Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
And here is my amixer output:
    Simple mixer control 'Master',0
    Capabilities: pvolume pswitch pswitch-joined
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Playback 0 - 65536
    Mono:
Front Left: Playback 65536 [100%] [on]
Front Right: Playback 65536 [100%] [on]
    Simple mixer control 'Capture',0
    Capabilities: cvolume cswitch cswitch-joined
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
    Limits: Capture 0 - 65536
Front Left: Capture 27636 [42%] [off]
Front Right: Capture 27636 [42%] [off]
and a lspci | grep Audio output:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation NM10/ICH7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
My headphones are plugged-in since I booted.
Another problem is that when I'm launching alsamixer there's only the master (Card: PulseAudio - Chip: PulseAudio). So, I make F6 > "1 HDA Intel" and I have other channels :
    Master (100 & unmuted) - PCM (100 & unmunted) - Mic (0 & muted) - S/PDIF (muted) - S/PDIF Default PCM (unmuted) - Beep (86 & muted) - Internal Mic (0 & muted) -- (Card: HDA Intel - Chip: Conexant CX20549 (Venice))
This is strange because on my former installation of Arch (on the same PC) the "default" alsamixer had exactly the same channels and the "Master only" didn't 'exists'. (But I had the same problems).
I tried a bunch of solutions I found but none worked.
    alsa-utils alsa-plugins & alsa-oss are installed (base-devel too if it can help).
I'm using SLiM & Cinnamon and had the same issue with LXDM & LXDE (same computer).
So if somebody could gave me a little bit of his light it'll be much appreciated!
    Thank you, Flaco
*Edit: Since I've rebooted with the headphones plugged-in the internal speakers don't work neither... but it may be something else; I tried a lot of solutions so maybe there's conflict between some files and/or process...
**Edit: Internal speakers issue solved. I might have touched some stuffs on pavucontrol before... anyway, the headphones are still a problem...
***Edit: I've booted (on a live usb) on Lubuntu to see what's happening and... still no sound. The jack input might be broken; I'll open my computer to see what's happening and to repair (or not) it.

  • Monitor resolution not picked up

    I have a new 13" Macbook Pro with a Dell U2713HM 27 INCH WIDE LED 2560 X 1440 VGA DVI HDMI Monitor.
I went to apple store and was told the best cable to connect up with to get the 2560 X 1440 resolution was the Mini DisplayPort to HDTV cable.
I've connected it all up to find the resolution is only displaying at 1920 x 1080 and it wont give me the option to select the correct resolution in the Display list?
Any help would be great :-)

Try a Dual Link DVI cable if your monitor has a Dual Link DVI port.

  • [Solved]StlinkV2-1 kernel not detecting the device

I have a stm32 board which have stlink with it. I installed the stlink and all the necessary udev rules are there. If enumerated properly it will create a serial device  /dev/ttyACMx  and will also show a fat partition.
When the board is connected and i restart the computer it works fine, serial port is there. But when the computer is running, i remove and insert again the usb cable it is not recognised. I get the following error in dmesg

It works fine. I have H97 MSI gamer 3 board.

  • [SOLVED]Broadcom BCM4313 does not detect all wireless networks

    EDIT:
I'm really sorry to the Arch forum users and to the admins for posting such easy problems which i could have fixed myself.
To solve this what i did was to change the channel on the router and its 802.11 mode. I turned my main machine on and it was doing the same as the machine i posted here first so it was two machines and so probably not a problem of the pc but of the router.
I don't know if this means my network cards are just bad or something else but it works now.
    Hello,
I'm having a problem with the computer on the title. When i try connect the computer over wifi(to my own network), it doesn't "see" my network. Sees all my neighbours networks but not mine. It was working till a couple of days ago.

I tried changing the encryption on the router from WPA&WPA2 to WEP and to WPA and i from TKIP&AES to simply AES but to no avail.
I also tried loading different modules still related to b43(like the legacy one) and installing the firmware from AUR.
Has this happen to anyone else?
I'm still trying to do this on the live iso so i can try as much stuff as needed and then i can just reboot and then do just what i need:)
    thank you

ewaller wrote:It sounds like your regulatory domain is not set correctly.   Not all channels are legal to use in all countries.  Perhaps your router had been using a channel legally, but your computer is unaware of its location, and was therefore ignoring the channel.  Also, I assume you are in the right band.  I don't know about your system, but thus ancient laptop does not work in the 5GHz band.
Thank you for shedding some light on the subject, but actually the channels the router permits are through 2.412 to 2.472 (more less, i think that writing here 13 frequencies wont help anyone ), and what i did was look on my working laptop, the channel for the networks around the house and select on my router a channel that wouldn't be the same, but i think the router has a built in tool to do this.

  • [SOLVED] Verbatim USB headphones not detected

I did use this head set once when I bought them in september and they showed up in gnome's pulseaudio-mixer-applet. I can't recall installing anything, just plugged them in...
However when I tried today nothing appeared, and dmesg gives med this:

Does anyone know if something is changed in pulseaudio or kernel or anything?

  • [SOLVED]: wusb600n v2 adaptor not detected on boot

    Hi,
I've only just installed arch linux. Only thing installed, on top of base and base-devel, is yaourt netcfg ntfs-3g-ar and the driver for the mentioned wireless adapter (and all the dependencies for these).
I'm having issues with the wusb600n v2 wireless adapter, I can't automatically connect to a network on boot using netcfg and network-profiles because it isn't detected on boot (can't find interface ra0).
Just after booting and using lsusb shows that the adapter isn't connected, though it is.
Unplugging and replugging in the adapter after booting up it shows up in lsusb and I can then connect to the internet as normal.
Just wondering if anyone can give any suggestions as to why it isn't being detected during the boot process.
edit: if there is any additional information that needs to be provided let me know
edit: I think it may be a dodgy usb port, plugging the device in a different usb socket and everything seems to be working fine now ......Hope everyone has a good Christmas!
    Thanks,
    Quattrix

  • External monitor. Works with Vista but not detected in Windows 7

I have an external monitor connected to my laptop which runs vista and win 7. However, when I use the WIndows 7 OS, the monitor is not detected. Any tips?

  • T420 - external 24" monitor DVI- Displayport : not detected when connected via KVM switch

    Hi,
I've been using a 2port USB KVM Switch from InLine for a long time connecting a mac mini and a macbook pro
to a 24" LCD. Recently I had to replace the MacBookPro with a T420. Unfortunately the T420 does not detect the
monitor, when connected via the KVM switch.
    I tried:
    A) T420 -> Lenovo Displayport to DVI-Adapter -> KVM-Switch -> 24" monitor: NO SUCCESS
    B) T420 -> Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> KVM Seitch -> 24" monitor : NO SUCCESS
    C) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 DVI Port-> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
    D) T420 ->Thinkpad miniDock Series 3 VGA Port -> 24" monitor - > SUCCESS
So I have a workaround, but leaving out the KVM switch is not a long term option.
This is all on Win 7 professional / 64bit
Using config (A) I then installed the Intel HD Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2342 16 May 2011
SURPRISE: during driver install, the monitor WAS detected!!!
SECOND SURPRISE: after reboot I was back in the old situation where the monitor was NOT DETECTED
    CONCLUSION:
Seems like a software issue with the Intel HD Graphice driver.
    ANY HINT/COMMENT/HELP highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Michael

    hey mgold,
as the T420 works correctly with the external monitor and with the miniDock ; it is sad to say the the KVM switch is non-compatible.
I would recommend that you get in contact with the manufacturer of the KVM. At the same time, try uninstalling the current video drivers of your T420 and see if it makes any difference with the KVM if the T420 is running on a generic driver
