[Solved] KMS enabled. KDE not starting

Hello.
I have enabled KMS using this article http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=79509
I got an error when tryed to install mesa-full from AUR then i forget to disable KMS in this file /etc/modprobe.d/
Now i can`t start KDE neither to sart any virtual console. When i press Ctrl+Alt+F2,3,4... my screen goes off. So i guess the simplest way to dealing with this problem is to boot to console and from there to disable KMS. How can i do that when my systam boot directly to init 5 and from there i have nowhere to go.
And another question somehow relate...what`s the diference between Arch linux and Archlinux Fallback.

Fallback = previous kernel. So if the kernel is the problem, using fallback is the solution. This won't help here, though.
Assuming you use grub:
in the boot menu hit e for edit, select the kernel line, hit e again, append 'single', then hit b for boot.
This gets you a maintenance shell where you can fix things.

I've problem with KDE. On clean installed arch 0.8 and 0.7.2 KDE not start as user.
    startx gives

Login from kdm also not works. In kdm.log I have
    QSettings: error creating /tmp/2049372133/.qt
QSettings: failed to open file '/tmp/2049372133/.qt/qt_plugins_3.3rc'

    On root kde works fine.

I don't think so. I do chown -R for user and /tmp has permissions drwxrwxrwt  4 root root 4,0K tmp
When I starting as user on console dcopserver and ksplash I get segmentation fault.
On my old Arch, that I update from version 0.5 or 0.6 in kdm.log also is
    QSettings: error creating /tmp/1339739184/.qt
QSettings: failed to open file '/tmp/1339739184/.qt/qt_plugins_3.3rc'
    QSettings::sync: filename is null/empty
    but kde work on user.
I don't know if it's important but I install from base cd.

  • [SOLVED] (gnome) NetworkManager does not start on login

    Hello!
Like the title says, the NetworkManager utility does not start with gnome on login. Every time I log in I have to start it manually by going into the terminal and running su, then running NetworkManager. I have googled and searched in the wiki, but did not find a good answer. Some threads talk about doing something with the gnome-session but it did not work for me.
So, which conf file do I need to edit to have it start on startup?
I hope I provided enough information.
Thanks in advance for the answers.

Yes, and yes. The network-manager-applet is installed (v 0.8.2-2) and my rc.conf looks like this:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus network netfs crond gdm)
You have to deactivate network daemon and add network manager instead, somethig like this:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus !network networkmanager netfs crond gdm)
Read the wiki as RaisedFist said.
    Thanks! This solved it.

  • [solved] "adsl.service" does not start with "netctl" sometimes

I recently moved from "netcfg" to "netctl".
Solution. I copied "/usr/lib/systemd/system/adsl.service" into a new service and added a line
    After=[email protected]
    under "[Unit]"

It goes definitely against any logic.
The service file looks good, but I've copied it to /usr/lib/systemd/system/bdsl.service. Same contents - and the new one launches succesfully.
I've deleted the original ...adsl.service file, verified that it disappeared, copied it back from the new bdsl.service file, and it still does not launch.
    [EDIT]
I've erased the drive, restored the system from a 1 week old backup, started it - everything worked. Then I'v updated the whole system, including the rp-pppoe package, and the adsl service is failing again.
Downgrading solves the problem. Should I file a bug report?

  • [Solved] Gnome-terminal does not start (fresh install)

Whenever I install gnome-terminal, I have the following message displayed:
(gconftool-2:28984): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally without any error message
Then whenever I launch gnome-terminal I have this message:
    ** (gnome-terminal:1102): CRITICAL **: atk_bridge_adaptor_cleanup: assertion `inited' failed
The problem seems to be related to dbus. I have even tried guake which complains explicitly about "No D-BUS daemon running".
Systemctl is telling me that d-bus is up and running.
    Any help appreciated.

sorry i forgot to give the solution
i removed/moved the "~/.kde4" directory and every thing returned as usual and if you have some themes/dolphin plugins/ksplash themes ... you can make backup and copy theme to the new "~/.kde4" directory

  • Device is enabled but not star

I have looked everywhere for a solution to this problem and found one:
    Symtom:
Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit Device shows up in device manager correctly (no
    ! on it)
Device is enabled and is working properly.
Clicking on properties shows that the device is enabled but not started.
Creative Diagnostics indicates that only hardware driver passes testing, all others (midi, wave, etc) failed.
Control Panel -> Sound/Audio devices shows no audio devices.
    Problem:
Plug and Play Device Emulator not listed in system devices.
    Solution:
    Copy C:\WINDOWS\inf\machine.inf to C:\temp
Edit C:\temp\machine.inf so that you delete the line that says ExcludeFromSelect:*
Go to Control Panel and add hardware.
Click Yes it is already connected.
    Add new system device
Choose driver to install from list
    Click on Have disk.
    Browse to C:\temp\machine.inf
Select System Devices/Plug and Play Enumerator.
    System Specs:
    Windows XP SP2
    Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit
    Pentium 5 .5GHz
    Gb PC2700 RAM
What I tried before doing this that didn't work:
    * removing sound card from motherboard completely,
    * tried reseating in each of 5 different pci slots
    * uninstalling all sound drivers and devices
    * reinstalling all creative software
    * cleansweep of windows
    * uninstall from device manager and allow windows to detect
    * ctzapxx.exe on cd from creative.
    * confirm on-board sound card was disabled in BIOS
None of those things seemed to work. I'm not sure why the plug and play device enumerator has to be there or what it does, but when I reinstalled that device, my sound card was working perfectly again.
I only post this because I see many people having similar problems!

I had the exactly same problem with my new Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit card. (Device is enabled and is working properly, clicking on properties shows that the device is enabled but not started, Diagnostics indicates that only hardware driver passes testing, all others (midi, wave, etc) failed.)
This is a Perfect working solution!
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
    My "system" specs:
Windows XP SP2 (all updates available instaled)
    Sound Blaster Li've 7. 24 bit BULK
    CPU K6 II/400 MHz
    RAM 256Mb PC33
    Slots:
    AGP (2x)
    2 ISA
    3 PCI 2.0!!!
Luckily for me, my problem was in the enumerator, not in my old PC.
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH AGAIN!

It looks like it's trying to start the nouvea driver.  The thing is I'm using the proprietary nvidia driver.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
    EDIT:
Okay, making progress...  I ran sudo modprobe nvidia and my driver loaded.  I ran startx and xorg-server started, Hooray!  Then my desktop opened and.....   froze.  Ctl-Alt-F1 did not open another tty, everything was completely frozen.  I had to hit the restart switch.  Any ideas?

Okay, I'm not really sure what I did to fix the problem, but it seems to have gone away.  I rebooted a few times and had to manually load my nvidia driver using modprobe in order to start xorg-server.  My system would still freeze though, then I installed the nouveau driver and started using that and the freezes stopped.  I reinstalled the nvidia driver and...  everything seems to work fine.  I reenabled lightdm service and my desktop loaded with no errors and there have been no system freezes.     ?????????????   I have no idea why that worked.

    Hi Danny,
Per my understanding that you can't get the expect result by using the expression "=Count(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4) " to count the the TICKET_STATUS which value is 4, the result will returns the count of all the TICKET_STATUS values(206)
    but not 180, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can reproduce the issue, the issue caused by you are using the count() function in the incorrect way, please modify the expression as below and have a test:
    =COUNT(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS.Value=4 ,1,Nothing))
    or
    =SUM(IIF(Fields!TICKET_STATUS=4,1,0))
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • OIM 11g - User Not enabled After the job "enable user after start date"

    Hi,
I have a future hired user in OIM whose start date is set in OIM. The status of the user in OIM is 'Disabled Until Start Date'.
After the start date has passed and the scheduled job 'enable user after start date' is run, I see that the user is still in the status 'Disabled Until Start Date'. I re-run the scheduled job 'enable user after start date', this time manually, still the state of the user remains unchanged.
Please help in troubleshooting as to find out the root cause of the issue and a workaround/solution, if possible.
This issue is intermittent and has happened with quite a number of user. Any pointer would be helpful.
    Regards,
    Sudipto S.

    I agree with Nayan.
One alternative approach can be to write your own custom scheduler which can overcome the limitation of OOTB scheduled job 'enable user after start date'. Let the OOTB job get executed first. After it, your custom scheduler should fire a simple SQL Query:
    SELECT USR_KEY, USR_STATUS FROM USR WHERE (USR_START_DATE > SYSDATE -1) AND USR_STATUS='Disabled Until Start Date';
//Means those users who are supposed to get enabled today and are still not yet enabled and are in 'Disabled Until Start Date'. May be 2-3 user keys at max will come...
    As you said it happens only intermittently and not for all users... So, let the OOTB scheduled job take care of most of such users... And after it has finished, if any user still remains in 'Disabled Until Start Date', your custom scheduler should enable it via using tcUserOperationsIntf.enableUser(userKey);
Using API is always better than database update... Because APIs trigger downstream provisioning workflows as well and not just updates OIM Database...
Keeping your constraints in mind, I think it is the correct answer.

  • Apache will not start if ssl is enabled

    Hello,
I recently upgraded from LMS 3.1 to LMS 3.2.  One of our end users pointed out that I forgot to enable https in the Common Services -> Server -> Security area.
I re-enabled https and now the 'Ciscoworks Web Server' will not start up.
If I disable https using ConfigSSL.pl from <NMS root>/MDC/Apache/bin then Ciscoworks comes up fine again.
The log file in <NMS root>/MDC/Apache/logs/error.log shows the message:
Failed to configure CA certificate chain!
I have deleted and regenerated the self-signed certificate several times and this pattern repeats.
I am running LMS on Windows Server 2003 R2.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Joe,
As requested, here are the files.
I was able to force Apache to start using the Service control panel.
However, when I spawned a browser the error message is:
    Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /cwhp/LiaisonServlet on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Don't know what this means either.  Again, if I turn https off, everything comes up fine.
    Thanks.
    Bob
