[SOLVED] Network connection issues - need to make connections twice

I've a strange issue with my network connection that has recently started to appear where if I:
- Attempt to install a package with pacman.
- Visit a webpage in chromium.
- FTP a file using Thunar.
- SSH into a server.
Then I quite often have to attempt the connection twice i.e:
- Pacman will return "error: failed retrieving file" on a first attempt, but be fine on the second.
- Chromium (or any other browser) will partially load pages or will show a 'Server Not Found' message on the first attempt but be OK after a refresh.
- FTP will not resolve the server on the first attempt but will on the second.
- ssh will return  "Could not resolve hostname Name or service not known" on the first attempt then be fine on the second.
This issue just used to occur with pacman & ssh and I just put it down to 'one of those things I needed to fix when I had time'. Yet the issue has recently started occuring with chromium as well so is making browsing the web a real pain.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to track down the issue so would appreciate any tips!
I'm using netctl to connect over wifi & just as I tried to post this message an error appeared in Chromium which may give me some hints as to how to fix this:
The server at bbs.archlinux.org can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Chromium from accessing the network.
I'm using netcl to connect over wifi.
I also recently installed dhcpd which I occasionally start and stop though the issue with pacman & ssh was occurring before this.
Thanks
Tom

Thanks for that Strike0. It prompted a thorough reading of a number of man pages, though while I 'think' I understand the general concept of how things should be working, I'm finding the configuration confusing!!
I created and added some nameserver settings to the following config file '/etc/resolv.conf.head'  (googles 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 also work):
$ vim /etc/resolv.conf.head
# OpenDNS servers
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
Then I reload  /etc/resolv.conf and view its new content:
$ resolvconf -u;cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by resolvconf
# OpenDNS servers
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
domain home
nameserver 192.168.1.254
And this seems to make everything work, where network connection are being reached after the first attempt!!
Though I'm confused why 192.168.1.254 is being used? Am I right in understanding that 192.168.1.254 is a broadcast address so all network devices on 192.168.1.* are being queried for a DNS server? If I use the host command on 192.168.1.254 it seems to fail.  Does this fail mean that my home router is not working correctly or theres' an internal config issue?
$ host www.archlinux.org 192.168.1.254
Using domain server:
Name: 192.168.1.254
Address: 192.168.1.254#53
Aliases:
www.archlinux.org is an alias for gudrun.archlinux.org.
gudrun.archlinux.org has address 66.211.214.131
Host gudrun.archlinux.org.home not found: 2(SERVFAIL)
What does the "Host gudrun.archlinux.org.home not found: 2(SERVFAIL)" output mean? Where is it getting the .home name from?
As comparison
$ host www.archlinux.org 8.8.4.4
Using domain server:
Name: 8.8.4.4
Address: 8.8.4.4#53
Aliases:
www.archlinux.org is an alias for gudrun.archlinux.org.
gudrun.archlinux.org has address 66.211.214.131
In one of the man pages I saw that you can test an internal DNS with:
$ host www.archlinux.org 127.0.0.1
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
Though wouldn't a dhcpd4.service need to be running for that to work?
Lots of questions I know, but I would like to understand exactly what's happening so I can easily trouble shoot in the future.

  • E3000 + WD My Book Studio II 2 TB - (Windows) connection issue, need help

    Hello all,
Sorry for the long post :-)
I just purchased a new E3000 and a Western Digital My Book Studio II 2TB external USB hard drive to use as an USB NAS devixe using RAID 1. I connected the My Book to my notebook, and formatted it (NTFS) and set it up for RAID 1 per the installation instructions. I connected it to the E3000, set up users with admin r/w permissions, set up a shared folder called "server", allowing the use of the full partition (931 GB). Went into Windows 7 on the notebook, set up share permissions, logged into the Router, and mapped the "server" folder to Z:\, and I was up and running in about 20 minutes. I was really pleased with the ease of setup. Everything seemed to work fine, started moving files from my Windows 7 notebook to the My Book the suddenly.........nothing! After moving about 5 GB worth of files to the My Book, it just "disapperared". I can no longer see it, or connect to it. I can see the router on my network, but I see no shared folders. If I go into the router setup, and click on storage, I get an error message that says that the "USB device that I have connected is not supported". If I remove the My Book from the router and connect to the notebook, all of the files seem to be there, and I can access them, move, delete....etc. But when I connect it back to the E3000........nothing. Anybody have any ideas? It seems to me that this is a problem with the E3000, not the My Book. I have hit the reset button yet, but I did power everything down, and then back up with the same results. Is anyone else having issues with the My Book connected to the E3000 in a windows only PC environment. I just got the E3000, and do not know if I should RMA it if there is a hardware issue, or if there is an easier fix that I am not aware of.

Has anyone resolved this issue? I have version 1.0.4 firmware that I installed prior to setup. This is crazy. I bought this mostly to hang my hard drive as NAS on my network to stream media to an iPad or media player for my TV. The storage seems to be reliably reached by my network PCs but the Media Player seems to not only regularly dissapear by crashing, doesn't appear to scan the entire share partition. I get intermittent results, especially with folders containing large jpg jpeg photo files. In reality, most of the shared folders seem to easily find proper folders for Root Music, sometimes for Root Video, and almost never for Root Photos... any explanation as to why this media server crashes, and any info why it does not seem to work for jpg photo directories would be most helpful. Imam using a Samsung Story 1TB USB drive. Even if it sleeps, when using shared storage from my PC it does not appear to have problems automatically waking up. But for the Media Player, even aver a fresh scan and enable of the server, it still doesn't publish the directories for just photos, even ifni create their own share. HELP PLEASE io so want this to work. Thanks. Guy Gschlact

  • Connection issue - Need help narrowing down

Hi guys. Trying to pinpoint what's wrong with my connection. I've got a Westell 7500 on DSL. The speed is great, except every so often I'll lose my connection. Happens once every couple of weeks or so and it's usually at night around 8:00. All the lights on the modem/router look normal. But neither one of my 2 computers in the room can get a connection. I can't even log in to the router when this happens. After about an hour the connection appears to fix itself and switch back on. I've tried switching the router off and on to re-establish the connection but it seems to have no effect. Only thing I noticed is when I power-cycle it, the LED on the router labeled "Internet" sometimes remains off. Other times it stays solid green, even though the connection still doesn't work.
When it's back online and I check my transceiver stats they look fine. I can post 'em if you guys want but everything looked within normal range to me and I have no speed problems so I don't think line quality is the issue.
Even if you can't help me solve the problem, I hope someone can at least help me figure out whether it's a faulty router or Verizon's service in the area just shuts down temporarily (service status page never says anything).
    Thanks in advance!

Had another disconnection. But I was able to get to the router and re-connect right away. Usually doesn't even let me get to the router. Anyways, do these entries from the log mean anything to you guys? I lost the connection at about 22:59.

  • Integration Connection Issue (Need help!)

    Hello community,
I have some issues enabling Cockpit with widgets in SAP Business One. I'm running SAP Business One 9.0 PL10 64-Bit I can enable Cockpit with widgets just fine. It's running on default SQL instance (had some issues with named).
Everytime I try and log in to the demo database, I get the following error:
All services are running, so I wen't into Modules > Administration > Integration Service > Integration Administration. This opens up a website, which I login with the user "B1iadmin" succesfully. I then go to B1if Admin > SLD > SBODemoUS > B1DI > Test Connection and I'm receiving this error:
    com.sap.b1i.adapter.dia.exception.ConnectionFailedException: java.lang.ClassCastException:class java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:null incompatible with class java.lang.Exception:null
    1. I've tried installing both Java 7 32/64bit, Java 6 32/64bit and Java 5 32/64bit.
    2. I have check up on the JCO Path: C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One DI API\JCO\LIB
    3. I have checked up on c:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\SAP Business One Integration\DIProxy\diproxyserver.properties path: JCOPATH=C:\\Program Files\\SAP\\SAP Business One DI API\\JCO\\LIB
    4. JDBC Test Connection is succesful:
Does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? I'm more than willing to provide more information of my setup, simply ask.
    Please advice.
    Kind regards,
    Thomas Schmidt

    Hello Teun,
    Thank you for your reply.
I installed DI API 32-bit, changed the path to JCO to point towards the (x86) path. It now complained about the username and password for the B1i user, so I changed the password and changed it in the integration administration configuration and the connection is now succesful.
I then launched SAP and no longer had an error upon login. When attempting to start a cockpit window, it asked for the installation of Flash player. Since I'm on Windows 2012 R2, which comes with Internet Explorer 11, it just says that Flash Player is embedded in the browser now. But since I'm on the server version, it's not, so I had to install Desktop Experience through Role and features.
Anyways, it's all functioning well now.
Last question; Why does it not work with DI API 64-Bit when both 32 bit and 64 bit comes with JCO?
    Kind regards,
    Thomas Schmidt

  • Can a ServerSocket initiate connections as well as make connections?

    Hi there,
I have a problem on socket stream connections. I have implemented a server using ServerSocket class and a client using Socket class. I can successfully make socket connections and transmit messages to and from only when the connection is initiated by the client (Socket), as it is usually done.
Now I need to change the code so that the server too can initiate connections from the client. Is it possible?
Can I have the server acting as a server as well as a client in the same port? Or do i need to have these implemented in separate clients?
I prefer to use the same port for both initiations.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.
    Gayani

    Hi MelGohan and Peter__Lawrey ,
Thanks for ur responses. So basically to ensure a 2-way communication through socket streaming is to have client-server pair programs at each end right?
The specific situation that i have is something like this:
there are 2 peers called A and B and 2 types of scenarios for socket communication
    1.
    A initiates the communication
    A --> B (message type 1)
    B --> A (message type 2)
    A --> B (message type 3)
    2.
    B initiates the communication
    B --> A (message type 2)
    A --> B (message type 3)
As the second scenario is a part of the first scenario i'm trying to reuse the code and achieve both scenarios from one program in each side.
But if i use a server-client pair in each side of the communication, i will have to make a connection from
server application --> client application at 'B' (at the same peer)
after the first step in the first scenario to reuse the same code for similar communication processing.
(because in the second scenario B acts as a client but in the first scenario B acts as a server)
That's where i stand right now. Any better ideas are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

  • Wifi Connection Issue (Doesn't stay connected)

I am fairly new to Arch and I am having almost no troubles but one.
I can log in to Arch and connect to my Wifi without problem on boot but something is happening that I can't pinpoint where suddenly the connection stops. If I disconnect and try to reconnect it will time out. The only way for me to get wifi back is on a fresh boot.
The time varies. I could lose my connection in 5 minutes or 24 hours but when I lose it, its gone until next boot.
I notice problems occur more frequently if I am running more than one internet connected application (ex: Firefox and qBittorrent / Firefox OpenVPN / OpenVPN and VirtualBox ). In otherwords, it's not isolated to just a specific set of software.
I've been dealing with this for about three weeks trying to find out the root of the problem but I am not exactly sure where to look.
Does any one have a good suggestion or experienced a similar issue?
    My Build:
External USB connected SSD - plain (not a virtual machine)
    Arch x86_64
    Linux 3.17
    Network Manager
DHCP enabled at boot via systemctl
journaling is off (per SSD r/w usage)

Seems I spoke too soon. After I rebooting back into Arch I had the same problem. I did no further configuration once I thought I had a solution. It has become clearer that general browsing doesn't effect the connections. Seems I can browse all day and night without a fuss. Atleast this has been my experience as of yet.
However, on a fresh boot with working wifi, I can log into my Virtualbox VM and have working wifi inside the VM for a few minutes and then it is broken (and very consistent on breaking the connection and rather quickly)
OpenVPN from Arch directly connects still but the times vary drastically but it will eventually break the connection.
These are the output files. I looked through them a few times already myself and seem to be identical (unless I have blindly overlooked something.) The only difference I did notice was the lease time (not sure if it is suppose to have a lease time if the dhcp is static.
I grouped these by command. The first is the working connection, the second is the broken connection.

Here I see the timeout message. Not sure what it means by the USB signal failures because I am still able to use the USB as far as opening and closing programs. Just no wifi.
Also note, just to eliminate confusion talking about Arch, Windows VM and Windows 8. Here you see Windows 8 (This is the HOST computer not the VM, which is actually Windows 7) The HOST is a Surface Pro running Windows 8.
    journalctl
This command is virtually null. It ends after the EFI boot (I have journaling off due to the use of USB SSD) I'll turn in back on when I have more time to play with this and see what kind of output.

  • [Solved] networking to pc, need help setting up a share

im trying to set up a file share, i right click on my user directory, which is mounted on an alternate partition, and i go to sharing, then i set it to share, it asks me for a password, and offers me to ignore as well, but either way, once i enter the root password, or hit ignore, it does nothing.  is something broken, or am i missing permissions, or an installation of another module?
i have samba installed, but i didnt change the default config, i might have changed one line, ill have to check tomorrow when im back on the box. i just copied the samba.conf.default to samba.conf.
note, i do have the pc's listed inside the workgroups when navigating through samba in the network file manager.

i have been pouring through documentation in the days past to get this far.  i thought i was doing pretty good honestly.  how much documentation do i ahve to read?  i got it installed.  once something is installed, and i click a feature and nothing happens, are you suggesting that i go back to the books?  and if so, at what point in your opinion warrants asking for help?
    edit
somehow i got it fixed, wish i could add details

  • Connecting Issues

I currently have DSL access with a Westell A90-750015-07 router and a Cisco wireless adapter. I seem to have issues connecting at times to the Internet, especially since we had a recent storm. One night I'm able to get on, the next I can't. And when I am able to go online, it is usually after several tries. My computer is in the bedroom and the router is in the kitchen, which may have something to do with the connection issue because there is not a closer jack.
Usually what I end up doing is turning off the computer, restarting, or shutting down completely, turning off the router and taking the adapter out and turning back on. Usually I could then get back on, but seems a hassle.
Since I got on now, the connection has stayed on, thankfully. Sometimes it goes while I'm on, then will come back on. It's a pain because it's been like this consistently.
I have a networking cable, however, it's been a while since I used it. Verizon's Technical Support helped me the last time. I'm not sure if something needs to be reconfigured since the storm so this does not keep happening. They did something while the cable was plugged in, then I was able to go back to using the wireless adapter to connect. I don't suppose anyone would have instructions. I'm also unsure which one it gets plugged into. I believe it's Ethernet on my HP desktop, but on the router I'm unsure which one it goes into, like E1/Uplink, E2, E3, or E4/Data. I tried earlier with all of them, even turned the router off, then would restart the computer but nothing happened.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

    Ok.
#1 An original or very old style NID with a spark gap and ground wire can even get spiders in it that could cause an issue. Inspect the NID first before thinking of changes or wiring.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demarcation_point
Running a good quality wire CAT5, no need for CAT6,  directly to the NID for the DSL modem jack may help. That is what I had done with mine. Depending on the number of loads or amount of wire in the house could also cause issues. But if the user's signal quality is not being pulled low due to a wiring issues, it would usually indicate a problem elsewhere. Unless there was noise being picked up on the premises wiring. Wire DSL directly to the NID and install a filter there for all other in house wiring may help. There used to be available what was called a NID Filter, and I am sure you can still get them.
Ideal Connection if house wiring is an issue, or very old, and lengthy. Install a filter / splitter at the NID.
Run CAT5 directly to the NID location, and install a dedicated jack for the DSL modem.
Remove all in house wiring from the NID.
Connect piece of CAT5 from the NID to the filter / splitter input
Connect all existing phone lines to the phone side of the filter output.
Connect the new DSL CAT5 directly to the NID before the filter / splitter, or to the DSL side of the filter / splitter, depending on the device purchased.
This will take all the existing premises wiring out of the picture unless there is a short circuit or excessive load somewhere in the house.
At this point all the single filters could be removed because the DSL is filtered at the NID.

#2 You can test outbound to Giganews. But giganews has/had a test that will check your inbound connection from their servers to you.
I heard from another user that
Giganews is being watched very closely because of multipart binaries, and pirated material. MP3s and Video Content. 7 years ago you could get 10-20 MP3 albums in a single day, and that was with a 15/5 fios connection. So they started providing an encrypted connection service for an added fee. I have not messed with news groups for a very long time. Now with deep packet inspection, and other enforcement, I would not even think of it. No news I want there. But there may be content that people want? They may even be checking and limiting speed from that domain. Never tested. But let me see. It looks as if reverse trace routes and speed tests are being blocked by Verizon from Giganews to my router.

#3 Have the provider run a local loop test to see if any problems are indicated. If there are, then they could run the test with everything in the house disconnected, except the new DSL modem connection. If issues are still indicated, then the DSL provider needs to make connections on the local loop. Another user told me that they had issues when it rained, and it was because construction had left a splice box open on a line somewhere.

  • T420 internet connection issues

I'm probably over complicating this situation, since I know little about computers, but here it is.
My T420's hard drive became a victim of the "Click of death," and I had to buy a replacement. I installed Windows 7 and I now experience connection issues. I cannot connect Wirelessly or Ethernet cable. With troubleshooting I receive a "Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter" message.
I'm assuming I have to install drivers, and I'm clueless there.

    welcome to the community.
    sorry you're having issues.
if you post your machine type (from sticker on bottom; don't post s/n), we can probably get you pointed in the right direction.
a question to clarify... how did you install windows and which version?
edited to add: follow-up... i believe the link below is for the wired nic in your machine. pick the 32 or 64 bit version as appropriate. once you can get on-line, you may be able to run thinkvantage system update (if it's installed) to get any other needed drivers.

  • Audio Interface Connection Issue

I have recently purchased Native-Instruments' Komplete Audio 6 for production use in Logic Pro 9 and I have been experiencing a connection issue. The USB connection light on the interface itself blinks whenever it is plugged in and my Mac Book Pro Retina cannot detect the device whatsoever. This means, I believe,  that it is receiving power. I have been able to connect the two devices for very short periods of time (maybe 5 minutes) before it disconnects and returns to a blinking pattern sending an error message that the interface returned -2. (Whatever that means)
I have contacted Native-Instruments directly about the issue and they only respond with "update your firmware to the latest version." This would be fine except that the interface has to be connected to run a firmware update. (If that even is the problem) I have also deleted and reinstalled the driver/firmware multiple times.
I have gone through and completed all of the NI's websites troubleshooting guide to no avail and am becoming desperate for answers.
Is there any input that could help me with this endeavor, or perhaps a troubleshoot that I have overlooked?
    thanks.

If you are connecting the Audio 6 (or any other USB2 Audio/Midi device for that matter) via USB to a USB3 port on your Mac.. (which I am assuming you are doing..) try using a Powered USB2 hub.. and connect the Live 6 to that and then connect the Hub to the USB3 port... Make sure you don't connect anything else to the hub.. so the Live 6 gets the max power from the hub...
Using a powered Hub with a USB2 device to connect to a USB3 port on a Mac or PC.. often helps out issues that are caused by the lower power that a USB3 port provides...
Its not a certain fix but often it works...
if it does work, you can then update the firmware which may alleviate the need for the powered hub.

  • AppleTV Wifi Connectivity Issues

I'm having an issue with my new AppleTV which I can only assume is a network based issue. It cant connect, or when it does is extremely laggy and keeps dropping out. So far I've only tried youtube and mirroring - both without love.
Unfortunately an ethernet connection is out of the question in this situation, but I have a good quality Wireless N router that I've been using. The problem is the ATV wifi signal is 1-2 bars at most yet if I place my Macbook beside it (or my phone) both have full bars and a great connection speed so the router distance is fine and there is nothing I could imagine which would be interfereing.
Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? Why can my laptop have a perfect signal yet ATV struggle to even connect?

I would look into updating the firmware of the wifi router solves problems for many people

  • IPad2, Verizon 3G, VPN Connectivity Issues

Greetings all. I am the systems administrator for my corporation and have seen an issue that I wish to present to the community for discussion.
For those enterprise users that have an iPad2 with Verizons 3G, are you experiencing connectivity issues while trying to connect to your VPNs from the 3G network? If so, have you found any work around to allow connectivity or does it work fine for you?
Here's a summary of my issues:
We have a VPN server built on Debian Linux that has been in operation for over four years. It handles remote VPN connections from Windows, Linux,  Android, OS X, iOS, and from many different devices including multiple flavors of Apple products (iMacs, Minis, MacBooks, iPads, etc.). To date, it has performed flawlessly with assorted devices connecting to it through broadband and assorted 3G networks.
Recently I purchased an iPad2 with Verizon 3G. I was able to set up the VPN connection using PPTP and connect using a Wi-Fi connection. When I turned off the Wi-Fi and attempted the same connection via Verizon 3G, it fails. I then took an associates iPad1 using AT&T 3G, set up the same connection, and was able to connect. I don't have access to an iPad2 on AT&T 3G so, I can't speak for that.
Here's the logs from the VPN server while connecting from my iPad2:
    Wi-Fi
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded.
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: pptpd-logwtmp: $Version$
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: pppd 2.4.4 started by root, uid 0
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: Using interface ppp2
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: Connect: ppp2 <--> /dev/pts/4
    Jul 27 05:20:46 localhost pppd[31694]: Unsupported protocol 'IPv6 Control Protocol' (0x8057) received
Jul 27 05:20:46 localhost pppd[31694]: found interface eth1 for proxy arp
    Jul 27 05:20:46 localhost pppd[31694]: local  IP address 192.168.1.69
    Jul 27 05:20:46 localhost pppd[31694]: remote IP address 192.168.1.82
    Jul 27 05:20:46 localhost pppd[31694]: pptpd-logwtmp.so ip-up ppp2 scott XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (removed external IP for security reasons)
Quick connect, able to utilize VPN connection normally. No issues.
    Verizon 3G
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded.
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: pptpd-logwtmp: $Version$
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: pppd 2.4.4 started by root, uid 0
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Using interface ppp2
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Connect: ppp2 <--> /dev/pts/4
Jul 27 05:20:32 localhost pppd[31682]: peer refused to authenticate: terminating link
    Jul 27 05:20:33 localhost pppd[31682]: Connection terminated.
    Jul 27 05:20:33 localhost pppd[31682]: Exit.
As you can see, the peer refuses to authenticate causing the link to be terminated while attempting to connect using Verizons network. This is with the same VPN connection settings on the iPad2 that just worked with WiFi connection from the same device.
Here's what I can verify with regards to 3G networks:
Older (<4) iPhones and iPad1 using AT&T can connect
Windows and OS X based laptops using Sprint 3G can connect
Android based smart phones using Sprint 3G can connect
I have not called Verizon or Apple Support yet but, that's next when I have the time. My initial conclusion is that there is something with Verizons 3G services that is causing the issue. It may be that Verizon is using some sort of data compression process that is problematic with VPN transmission. While the log shows an unsupported IPv6 protocol when connecting via Wi-Fi, it still negotiates a successful connection and I don't think that's the root cause for the disconnect. Thoughts?

    Hi Alexander,
I am running in to the exact same issue (although not with Linux).  Did you ever find a fix for this?  I have some support tickets open with my VAR's, but found your post and thought I would check.  If I find anything I will post.
    Thanks
    Stu

  • Distance-sensitive Wired Connection Issue

My 2009 Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard) seems to have a distance-related connection issue for wired Ethernet connections. I can connect the MBP directly to my router and have no problems. I have problems, however, when trying to connect to some outlets connected to longer cable (CAT5) runs. Other computers, both Macs and PCs, can connect fine to the same outlet. The Network Diagnostic for the MBP shows "No Cable Connected". With respect to the Linksys router, it either shows no lights for the connected outlet or sometimes shows all three lights blinking on and off simultaneously (a normal connection shows two lights continuously on and a blinking third activity light). I can connect the MBP to some ethernet outlets, most (but not all) of these have somewhat shorter cable runs (my best guess is that no run in the house exceeds 200 feet).
I have tried all the usual suggestions: toggling the router power, manually configuring ethernet, deleting and adding the ethernet connection, etc.
I have gone to the Apple Store and, no surprises, everything works fine. I am posting to see if anyone has any Ethernet settings suggestions or can direct me to a way of somehow measuring the signal level on the non-working outlets.

I have seen some weird things happen with newer Mac hardware and older Cat5 cables, even those that work with other hardware. Are you sure that those other wired connections are at maximum speed?
The best thing to do often seems to use a new Cat6 ethernet cable.

  • Dreamweaver connection issues

    Hi all,
Over the past couple of weeks I am having increasing difficulty with Dreamweaver trying to connect to BC sites when I am ftpingto the extent I am having to restart DW after closing it down via Task Manager.  It is now on virtually every new file upload and is slowing me down hugely.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I did ask in the DW section and got 1 other who is but thought I'd ask here.
    Many thanks
    Steve

Further to the above - these connection issue are ONLY with connecting to BC Sites, my non BC servers connect without problems.  Further investigation shows that the issue appears to be with my sites on the EU data centre as my US hosted sites seem to hold the connection without problems.
Morten - from your name it sounds like you are in the EU as well?
Come on BC - can someone respond to this please now as it is very frustrating!

  • The Network Adapter could not establish the connection  - 17002

    Hi,
this issue has been discussed already but none of the solutions or circumstances seem to be similar to mine.
    I have W 7 64bit, SQL Developer 3.2.20.09 and jdk1.7.0_40.
I can connect to "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production"
but I cannot get any connection to "Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production" and get the aformentioned error message.
It's not an connectivity issue as I can connect to the database from a different application running on my W7 machine or from SQLDeveloper on my XP machine.
My Oracle Client seems to be "SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production".
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Many thanks, Rob

    Hi Jim,
I connect via tns and tnsnames.ora file provided by our it department. When I connect with a different application there isn't any problem. So I do not think its a spelling mistake or something like that.
I found one posting suggesting it might be related to specific jar files (http://www.christoph-jahn.com/?p=1074) ' but it doesn't mention any details,
    Rob
