[SOLVED] Pacman syncs repos when doing -Syu immediately after -Syyu

Hello!
I've tried to find information regarding my problem but I've not found any, so maybe you would care to help me (I hope).
It's not a big deal for me really, but it is annoying. The problem is as follows:
Say I'm about to upgrade my system and I do:
sudo pacman -Syyu
then pacman syncs with the repos even if they may be up-to-date and upgrades all packages. That's awesome and exactly as it should be. However, were I to execute
sudo pacman -Syu
immediately after the
sudo pacman -Syyu
command, it still downloads the repo-data even though it's up to date with a 100% certainty.
As I said, I'm not bothered bery much with this, but it would be nice to fix.
Also, It works on my other computer without problems.
Thanks in advance for any help.
/R

My laptop behaved in a similar way, that is it sync'ed repos even if I wrote "pacman -Syu" right away after another system update. When I changed /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist to choose another repos mirror first, the problem got solved. So my advice is, change the mirror in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

  • [SOLVED] Pacman sync problem

I'm recently having a problem trying to sync the package databases or any packages with pacman.
    Here're some outputs: http://pastebin.ca/2108502
I've tried different mirrors but no avail. should I delete the dbs and then try ?

I deleted the db files and sync went fine for once. After rebooting its the same problem. Though core and extra rep databases got synced, it was stuck at community @ 24%. and now the same is happening again.
Never had this problem defore after upgrading to pacman4.
EDIT: I have swap on sda16. shouldn't it show that as well?

  • [solved] pacman sync delete

I did a VERY stupid operation:
    rm -r /var/lib/pacman/sync/extra/firefox-3.0.5-1
After that I can not install firefox with pacman anymore. What can I do for this?
    Thank you!

pacman -Syy && pacman -S firefox

  • How to sync data when doing manual sync

I had to switch to manual sync as My ipod is now too small to hold my music library, but since I made the switch, last played time on my ipod is no longer reflacted in my main itune lib. Is it possible to get the main itune lib updated ?

Have you tried syncing to selected playlists?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304708
You could have an iPod playlist and sync to that.
I haven't actually verified that it updates the library myself, but I assume it does as it is a variaety of auto sync.

  • I want to change my Apple ID. When doing so and after having entered my current username and password it asks me for two security questions. I am not entering these correctly (thought I was). How can I proceed?

NNeed to change Apple ID but can't remember security question answers

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the other ID.  When you delete the account it will prompt you about what to do with the iCloud data.  If you need to migrate it and merge it with the data in the new account choose Keep on My iDevice; then choose Merge to upload the data and merge it with the new account.  If your data is already in the other account and you don't need to migrate it to the other account, choose Delete from My iDevice.

  • [solved] pacman can't acces repositories, but my web browser does

    Hi,
there is a strange problem. Today I tried a pacman -Syu to update, but pacman can't acces my repositories. Gives me errors of
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from mirror.archlinux.ro : No address record
I tried different mirrors, change the protocol from ftp to http, but without result. The strange think is that I can access those repositories with my web browser, so I think that it is pacman or python problem.

  • [solved] pacman -Syy and -Syu work, but packages won't install

Hello, everyone. I'm really new to Arch, but I did search all over Google and the forums and couldn't find an answer to this, so I thought I'd ask the forums.
I just installed Arch, and I'm trying to install sudo.
When I run pacman -S sudo, I get:
sudo package not found, searching for group...
error: 'sudo': not found in syncdb
However, when I run pacman -Syy, I get:
    ::Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from mirrors.kernel.org: File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
...(other similar errors from other mirrors)
    core     4.1K     43.7K/s     00:00:00 [##########] 100%
    ...(same for extra and community)
(Sorry I didn't copy the entire output out, I'm not connected to the internet on the Arch computer, so I'm typing this by hand on another one. I tried a bunch of mirrors earlier, and only one mirror actually works: the Arch one, which as a download cap.)
So my package databases are getting updated, but somehow pacman isn't recognizing them or something.
I updated pacman to see if that would work.
    pacman -V
    Pacman v3.3.3 - libalpm v4.0.3
    It didn't.
    I'm running 2.6.33-ARCH according to lib/modules.
I haven't changed my etc/pacman.conf. [core] and its Include, [extra] and its Include, and [community] and its Include are all uncommented. No packages are ignored.
My etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist was updated from the Arch Mirror Generator. I uncommented everything in United States.
I have internet set up, and I've tried taking down wlan0 and putting it back up. iwconfig shows that wlan0 works and is connected, and I'm pinging google.com successfully, so I know internet works.
Thanks in advance for any help, and please let me know if I'm missing any information. I tried to be thorough.

  • (SOLVED) Pacman error: GPGME does not exist

Hi, I have also just been struck with the same issue - a broken pacman (and for no reason that I can fathom). Was working perfectly yesterday and all I did that wan't usual was to uninstall clamav.
Anyway, I have read this post and done a pacman -Syy, which upgraded core and archlinuxfr only. I then ran pacman -Syu and received this:
    [grant@ARCH ~]$ sudo pacman -Syy
    [sudo] password for grant:
    error: GPGME error: No data
    error: GPGME error: No data
    error: GPGME error: No data
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from mirror.aarnet.edu.au : Connection time-out

    error: GPGME error: No data

    error: GPGME error: No data
error: failed to update multilib (invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature))

error: database 'community' is not valid (invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature))
error: database 'multilib' is not valid (invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature))
    [grant@ARCH ~]$
Should I do a reinstall of pacman using the CD? I know this is clumsy, but anything I have missed?

  • [Solved] pacman -Syyu sync's repository and then repoistory.db

For instance I run 'pacman -Syyu' and it will then sync core, core.db, extra, etra.db and so on a so forth for all the repo's in my pacman.conf. It did not sync the .db on my last install which was up to date unitl I just did a fresh install using the archboot iso. I looked through the pacman.conf a few times and did not see anything obvious wrong to me. <-- not saying much
I searched this section of the forum going back about 2 months figuring it has to do with signatures and found nothing. So i believe it means that either a) my last setup was incorrect. b) My searching skills are lacking.
If this is normal that is fine, it doesn't bother me, was just curous about it.

Is it a feature of pacman 4?
Allan's repo seems to be already back online, so you have to test it with some nonexistent repo & db.

Yes, this was mostly an intended change.
Note that you can do an -R operation (or anything not requiring sync databases) just fine. However, once we hit any machinery that requires sync databases to be present, we require all configured ones are accounted for. This is for a few reasons:
    1) dependency resolving if you have 1 out-of-date database and 4 up-to-date ones, things can get ugly or messed up.
    2) integrity- if you insist on a database being signed, we'd rather not proceed with nothing.
    3) replay attacks- what you don't fully see in the above situation is we also validate the signature on the database at load time; if that were to fail we'd also bail out. This is so pacman is capable of verifying the expiration time on a database signature; it makes sense to only allow database signatures to be valid for a week at a time so people know they have out-of-date repo metadata.
    Closing.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman: slow sync with dlink dsl-2740b

    Hi guys,
    I've a very strange problem.
My pacman very slow when sync database with this router: dlink dsl-2740b.
That's not a pacman issue, but I hope you can tell me some option that I should modify into my router settings.
    I'm using pacman 3.5.1 and I can't upgrade it.
I'm experiencing another issue: akregator slow fetch... only it, thunderbird fetch normally.
    I hope this could help.
Obviously I've already tryed to change mirror in mirrorlist.

  • How and when  does contacts update on my synced iPhone?

If I add new/update a contact in Contacts on my macbook air when  does Phone/Contacts update on my synced iPhone 4S? I use iCloud and only one Apple ID.

iCloud changes taking over 2 hours is definitely not standard.  Even two minutes would be a very long time.  By "immediately", I mean less than two seconds!
I cannot imagine why your changes would take so long to sync.
One thing to try might be this:
Make the changes on your MacBook Air.  Use Safari on the MacBook Air to sign in to http://www.icloud.com and see if you notice the changes immediately (less than two seconds later).  Perhaps that might help localize the problem.

  • [Solved] Pacman Failing to do -Syu

Yesterday for no explicable reason, Pacman -Syu does not work. Installs work fine -S.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Log out put below. After entering the command it just sits there, does nothing, even after 5 mins, was thinking it may be the update server was overloaded and slow. Prior to yesterday updates were nearly instantaneous. I have reinstalled pacman, but same results. Once in awhile after 10 or so tries it will get the core files, then stop again, of course the lock file must be  removed after any attempts.

I have tried switching mirrors as suggested in numerous places, that of course was the first thing I did before consulting anyone, as it seemed that the repository server was not being contacted. Unfortunately there is nothing in the log files, next to impossible to find the problem without errors to point to something.  I could compile the kernel for additional debugging purposes, not going to spend the time to find what is corrupted, a clean install can be faster, though I will have to re-install the packages I need, most of which I did from source because they are not in any repositories, some of my own making, some from other people, and others that are propriety. Going to give it a rest for now, will either reinstall or go to another flavor because it may be a case of corrupted file, difficult to find with no errors.
I am also considering Slackware and LFS. I am thinking that LFS may be the best, since I always end up fixing what some package maintainer made a mistake on, so I might as well spend my time and money for myself rather than others and get told to sexually assault my mother, not a very good trade off. I am simply looking for a new minimal flavor for my extensive home network and some backup and monitoring servers in my home office. Since I have a business to run, spending hours each day or week fixing what should have not happened in the first place, is not an option. I started out with LFS in the mid 90's, played with Slack, used Suse for a bit in 1999 for business purposes, then Gentoo for the past 10 years for business and pleasure, first computer in 81. Since I need to run some programs that are self generated and or not available via any repository. I have the feeling LFS is going to be my final decision, since the fast easy route is usually not the best route and ends up taking more time in the long run, already spent hours on this error, could of done a LFS install and been running cleanly by now. Only hurdle with LFS is package managing, will have to see what is out their for LFS for which I can customize for my own needs, have not looked at LFS for many years.
I am not saying that there is something wrong with Arch Linux, just that it may not be the right choice for my needs. My problem may simply be a corrupted file that has nothing to do with Arch Linux in it self, though I do wonder because if it was a corrupted file from the initial install,
it should have presented itself right off the bat not a week later. Which leads to how did a file get corrupted, or how did it get mis-configured if I did not do it myself, I find nothing wrong with the disk, no bad blocks or any other application affected. Usually a number of applications will start to get affected if the disk starts going bad and starts corrupting files. If other Arch Linux users are not having the same problem, then it must be an isolated case. .
Thank you to those that replied.
LMAO Maki, I needed the laugh thanks.  My rant was/is reminiscent of the m$ anti Linux flooding on all forums, at least I kept it in the family kind of sort of. Do not get me started on m$, then you will see my real ugly side!
    Last reply to my rant:
I apologize if I have offended anyone other than any Gentoo dev who is responsible for immoral actions and including the Gentoo Foundation members who practice, or  tolerate, or perhaps encourage such behavior.
Yes I know I have not been nice, they pushed me over the edge and I lost it, who would not after being told to sexually assault your mother by some nose wiper who is barely out of their diapers and has no clue, when all you tried to do is help. Any time away from my work costs me money, I am not going to pay to be treated that way any longer, that was the last straw.  I am getting crusty and mean in my old age, you should see what my feet are starting to look like, don't worry it will happen to you to!
OK thats all over with, subject closed.

i guess you meant no harm but try to stay on the topic, switch to a local mirror and try to do -Syu, LFS is not really a good choice for anything except home/hobby use, and you can make packages for any sotware using makepkg.

how can i know if the sync process is done after a bookmark adding or so such and when it is processing , immediately after changes or what?

I don't know whether you solve your problem or not! Anyway, I have the same problem. The program hangs when getInputStream is called.
    DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(request.getInputStream());
If you have the answer, please let me know. Thanks!!

  • Repo Sync fails when getting Sony Android Kernel

I followed the guide of Sony:Code:http://developer.sonymobile.com/knowledge-base/open-source/open-devices/aosp-build-instructions/how-to-build-aosp-lollipop-for-unlocked-xperia-devices/#build-aosp-lollipop-5-1

Hello, Thanks for your answer, i copied the text again from the website and this time it worked. But when doing a repo sync afterwards i had the following error message:error: frameworks/base/: platform/frameworks/base checkout 225d3f5440dc7166d91bb848d508924c20a13286and when executing make after executing the changes mentioned to the sources on the guide:make: *** No rule to make target `out/host/linux-x86/bin/validatekeymaps', needed by `out/target/common/obj/ETC/validate_framework_keymaps_intermediates/stamp'.
