[SOLVED] Pre-built Arch VBox image?

I'm looking for a pre-built Arch installation that exists as a VirtualBox image.
I wanted to do a little short-term experimentation under Arch but don't want to mess up my primary installation. However, I'm not in the mood to do a complete installation either on spare disk space or into VirtualBox. That's why I'm looking for a pre-built image.

I was aware that VMware images could be converted to VBox format, but, in fact, VBox manages to open my vmdk file. The pre-built image that I downloaded from the bagside side consists of eight *.vmdk files. I had VBox try to open the first (un-numbered) one, and -- voilà!
I'm running VirtualBox 2.0.2.

This is my first time venturing into RAC on VM, and curious if there are any pre-built images for RAC with the following configurations:
Sun X4200 with four 2.4GHz AMD CPU's
6140 disk array (15x300GB disks in a RAID5)

I would love to close the question, but right now I have no idea if the responses are either helpful or correct. You say "should", but how do I know for sure unless I try? And since I am not the sysadmin on the box in question, it is not my perogative to try it out. I will keep the question open until I do have a definitive answer; it is possible that the response so far are "helpful" and/or "correct", and I will mark them as such when I know.

Pre-built virtual machine VERR_LDR_GENERAL_FAILURE in vbox 3.2.10

I am trying to run the SOA-BPM pre built virtual machine in http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/learnmore/vmsoa-172279.html with vbox 3.2.10 r66523 (latest) but after loading and trying to start the VM I get an error. I transcribed the logs below. Anyone knows how to fix it? Or at least know a version of vbox that works with that VM?

I had the same issue. Upgrading Virtual box from 4.1.16 to 4.1.20 solved the problem.

[SOLVED] Is It Pointless to Image an Arch Machine?

When I got my new laptop, I set up Arch on it, installed all my favorite programs, set up the menus, and made sure everything worked perfectly. Then, I grabbed a Clonezilla LiveCD and took an image of it, just in case something were to happen to the hard drive and I was in a situation where I would need to reinstall Arch. But that got me thinking, is that even a good idea?
The benefit is that if my hard drive breaks, I just need to restore the Clonezilla image, and I'm back in business. However, I'm wondering if a lot of time passes between the creation date of the image and the date of failure, that when I do a pacman -Syu to get up to date, would so much change that it would just break the whole install?
In my career I've always created restore images of all my computers, but I'm wondering with Arch if that is even the most practical way of doing it. What are your thoughts?

This is what I do...
I personally prefer to have everything backed up, and not just the files that regularelly change, and then I also never have to reinstall, allthough aif makes it fully automatic, so no biggie.
Then there's a couple of solutions to choose from.
I don't like dd'ing, as the empty space read is redundant.
Tar'ing up my system partition and home folder + dd'ing the mbr(grub) is a solution, but it's just much more effecient to do that block-wise as opposed to file-wise, so I prefer using an imaging solution instead.
I then decided to use partclone(supports ext4 with "used blocks only"), and then instead of making my own livecd with partclone, then I just took the pre-built clonezilla one, which also have a console-frontend to partclone and dd etc. and made some changes to make it backup or restore fully automatic, and also set it up to additionally tar/untar my home folder after the backup/restore of the system partition is done and before rebooting, and then I write the modified clonezilla iso to a usb stick(after having run isohybrid on it first to make it usb-bootable).
Then I make a backup(i.e. partclone image of system partition + tar of homefolder) of a fresh install and then after having run my post-install script which sets everything up I again make another backup, which I can revert to whenever wanting a fully clean and newly configured system, and then if wanting to change the use of some apps or settings, then I image back to the base backup and run the modified post-install script and make a new second backup.
About your other question, then it's okay to copy files over, but I personally just issue sed or echo commands from the post-install script.

There is no out of the box dashboards available today. However, i have a number of customers who are doing this use case by themselves or through some SI/Oracle consulting.

EPM pre-built image for partners - BIC2G

Hello All,
I got to this page in search of a pre-built environment for demo, poc etc.. for Oracle Partners.

In this page, in particular I was looking for the free Linux Image of older versions of EPM.
But I don't see any FTP folder named "/static/BIC2G-BI-LNX_JUNE_2009/" as given in this page.
Does anyone know where I can get this? I would prefer a windows image but if not Linux is fine.
Is there a VMWare Image (Virtual Appliance) for EPM? I heard there is a 30 day trial image available. But couldn't fine it in VMWare site.

1. Instead of localhost, try giving the fully qualified name of the machine / vm image. Also add localhost with that machine ip/dns names details in the etc/hosts file.
Say for example, in a single machine assuming you have Windows OS. In that in one of the partitions, you may have installed VM Workstation with this BPM Image. For this VM, set the network connections ip with some static ip address. Then in that vm image linux os, add in hosts file this ip address and some static machine name like that vm image name itself. Then on windows side in windows system32 etc hosts file add these details.

Installing Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal error

I am trying to install the Pre-built Virtual Machine for Oracle WebCenter Portal: Framework 11gR1 (11.1.1.4.0) onto a Laptop (500G HDD 8G Ram) running Windows 7 to learn.

I want to run in a VirtualBox Linux setup etc.
I have downloaded all the files except the REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf which would not download so I saved in browser to the same directory etc.
I have set the preferences in Virtual Box to the same directory where I have downloaded the files to but when I Import Applicance and select C:\users\Tony\Virtual Box VMs and select the defaults and import I get an error box stating:
Failed to import appliance C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC.ovf.
Could not open the medium storage unit 'C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC-disk1.vmdk'.
VD: error VERR_ACCESS_DENIED opening image file 'C:\Users\Tony\VirtualBox VMs\REAVDD-HOL-WC-disk1.vmdk' (VERR_ACCESS_DENIED).

I've imported this appliance (and others) on Windows 7 32-bit on a Lenovo W500, on an iMac, and on a MacBook. The one error you should encounter during the "import appliance" step is a path error related to shared folder (the canned/hard-coded path in the ovf file points to a place that is not likely to exist on your computer, so just comment out the D:\TEMP\Host path, or make it for that matter).



You can alter system set memory_target=300M scope=both and set your VM memory to 2.5GB and everything will run fine (using the vmctl script to start up what's needed). The "1" option is all that is needed for the tutorial shown in the documentation. If you run the admin server, you will see things run a good bit slower. Part of the tutorial assumes you know about UCM and how to take the UCM content in the sample files and upload those into the repository. You can delete the file already loaded and then do a single file upload to "re-load" the various directories/folders for the menu/home/etc. Upload the png and other files into the same folder (menu.html, menuBanner.png, etc. all go into the same Menu folder). It's not worth the time to set the bulk upload because you have to go out into UCM and dig around the admin settings, stop/restart, and so on. You can also use the contentadmin user (welcome1) to do the file upload.

Oracle PeopleSoft CRM pre-built VM Template

Am looking for a pre-built VM Template of Oracle PeopleSoft CRM.. In the instructions it says:

Select "Oracle VM Templates" from the "Select a Product Pack" pull-down menu

Download and unzip the files and read the readme
But I can't find PeopleSoft listed in after hitting the "Go" button!
Is there any other way to download it?

It seems Oracle needs to revisit their pages more often, the link you pointed is really out of date. The PSoft OVM CRM91 PTools 8.50 you read from the page you linked is dated from August-2010 when I see my software repository...
The Peoplesoft OVM Templates have been globally decomissioned three years ago I think, you have no luck to find out one of them unless you have already downloaded them.
Nowadays, Peoplesoft is working with the so-called Peoplesoft Images, virtual machine for VirtualBox. Unfortunately, only available for those who have a valid Customer Support Identifier (paid support) and access to My Oracle Support.
The Peoplesoft images are rebuilt on regular basis, perhaps every quarter - depending of the application, with the highest maintenance level (application and tools).

Oracle Linux 5 (pre-built developer vm)

Apologies if this is the wrong forum. Please let me know which forum I should use if it isn't this one.
I'd like to upgrade both the database (Oracle 11.2.0.2) and the Linux (Oracle Linux 5) of the Oracle pre-built vm that I downloaded from here : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html
Database side I'm OK with, getting the zips etc. Where do I get the binaries to upgrade the OS? Metalink doesn't seem to have an Oracle Linux patch section if it isn't for another Oracle product ON Oracle Linux. I'm probably not using it properly.

I have no experience with updating the VM image you mention, nor do I know whether this will work or is a good idea. But to answer your question where to obtain Oracle Linux binaries or update the system:

You can always buy the bicg2g image from Dan Vlamis' team, http://www.vlamis.com/bic2g/. I believe your organization has to be an Oracle Partner though.
Other than that I don't believe that there are any pre-built VMs available.

Yes, Aman you are right. As I guessed it worked. I was not sure that the Oracle Virtual Box will work on Home Premium 64-Bit because the download page did not say anything about which flavor of 64-Bit OS is supported. However, I downloaded and installed ("Oracle Virtual Box and Pre-built Developer VMs"). Afterwards, I tested a few items, so far looks good.

I know Informatica and OBIEE(Not a very experienced person).
I have installed BIA on my local windows machine.
I am using Oracle Apps as the source.
In the execute tab I selected the HR-Oracle 11510 execution plan and ran it but it failed.
The workflow error log says the following:

Prompts in Reports similar to Pre-built reports??

There is a pre-built report called 'Top 10 opportunities' in 'Pipeline Analysis'. When we execute the report, it shows the prompts at the top (Fiscal Quarter, Fiscal year, Region). And depending upon the value user selects in these prompts the report data changes
I copied this report in different folder and tried to execute it through there. But then it don't give this prompts as in pre-built reports. Do you know how to connect these kind of prompts to the reports??
I tried to create a Dashboard prompt and link it to the report. But then it only works if I execute it through dashboard and if tried to execute the report from Report Tab then it does not show this prompts.
Please let me know if you have any input/suggestion on this

Hi All,
I don’t think pre built reports are designed using narrative reports. I think these are designed by using dashboard prompts. We could do the same and design a dashboard page with prompt on top but it will not work in direct report.
The alternate to do the similar prompts in report is by using the pivot table view (but pivot view will work if you have at least one matrix field). So in pivot view you can define the prompts on top and filter the report by that. But the disadvantage of pivot prompts compare to dashboard prompts is, these will be slow.
Try out by pivot view. Hope should help

Pre-built website businesses how to get into dreamweaver?

I just purchased a monthly membership to a website that is selling "scripts". Pre-built website businesses that I am able to download and edit as i like. I also recently dowloaded dreamweaver and look forward to learning how to use it. I'm a novice with html, web design, etc and know dreamweaver is pretty "intense". I tried to get these files "php" and "css" into dreamweaver and I'm having difficulty. Is there some easy way this is done that I'm not able to find in my books and online material? thanks!

Unfortunately without knowing what the 'pre-built' sites contain it will be difficult to say if they can be used 'as is' in dreamweaver.
Many of these pre-built sites contain templates and include files, and depending upon the type of template used, you may require a plug-in to use them in dreamweaver, the good new is that most of the common template systems such as 'smarty', do have dreamweaver extensions available.
The first thing to do is set up a testing server with a server side scripting language as required by the pre-built site. If it is a php/MySQL site then see this article for setting up a testing server - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setting_up_php.html, if it is asp then try this one - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/setting_up_asp.html, should it be some other then please let me know.
Once you have your testing server of choice set-up, copy the files to a folder in the testing servers htdocs or www.root folder and define your site in the dreamweaver site definitions, to do this see - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/first_dynamic_site_pt1.html, this article is for php but the steps required are the same.
Should your site use templates such a smarty, then a search of the web for smarty (replace this with your template name), dreamweaver extension, should find the dreamweaver extension you require, failing this try searching the dreamweaver extensions site at - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=productHome&exc=3&loc=en_us. Including a Pre-Built LLB in Application Builder 8.X

I have just recently updated some old code to 8.5.1. This code contains many dynamic calls to VIs located in pre-built LLBs (LLBs that were saved prior to application builder). This application is also compatible with a priority plug-in architecture. So when creating an application or installer in app builder 8.X, how does one include a LLB file? I do not wish to build it. I just want to include it the same way you may include a text file or someother type of source file. LLB files do not show up as individual files in the Project Manager.
