[SOLVED] Problems upgrading some haskell packages

Hi Folks.
I am getting this error message when trying to upgrade my System:
[gasp0de@Gasp0de ~]$ yaourt -Syua
:: Synchronizing package databases...
core is up to date
extra is up to date
community is up to date
multilib is up to date
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: Starting full system upgrade...
:: haskell-transformers: requires ghc=7.6.3-1
I searched the forums and found  a similar question, but the given solution doesn't work for me, as i don't have the unofficial haskell repository enabled.
I don't understand exactly what the problem is here, as i seem to have the wanted version of ghc on my System:
[gasp0de@Gasp0de ~]$ yaourt -Qs ghc
extra/ghc 7.6.3-1
The Glasgow Haskell Compiler
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Seems bad.
Is this really the intended path? Uninstall everything Haskell, then reinstall?

  • Problems upgrading my Broadband package

I am experiencing issues trying to upgrade my Broadband package to unlimited using www.bt.com. Once I log on, I have followed the appropriate links and get to a point where the website tells me I have broadband from another provider and need a MAC code which is a bit mystifying to say the least! And worrying since I am already very close to my 10GB allowance after only a few days where we have not been downloading anything significant...
I am now "enduring" the process via telephone (now in a second queue waiting to speak to someone to sort this out). There is obviously something not right with either my account or with the BT website and I am hopeful that this feedback will alert someone to look into this.
Hopefully, I will get through to someone on the phone who can do the upgrade but I am not feeling too confident right now!

  • [SOLVED] Problem installing gnome-extra packages

I have completed the installation and all that left is gnome-extra packages. I fetched the packages and after the integrity check it says
Failed to commit transaction invalid or corrupted packages
gnome-games-3.0.21- <pacgae_info> is either invalid or corrupted
    and the installation exits.
Now how do I fix this. I tried forcing the upgrade process by pacman -Syu but to no avail. Can you help me fixing the issue.

    Ok I solved the problem.
First I removed the problematic packages from /var/cache/pacman/pkg and then used rankmirrors to get the best mirror.
After that used pacman -Syy to refresh and reinstalled the gnome-extra package .. Working fine
    Thanks

Ok. Thanks for your help, but removing that package was not the solution because I hadn't installed it. The only reference I had about that package was
    5:13# locate linux-uvc-svn                                                                                                               ~koven

    /var/lib/pacman/local/linux-uvc-svn-238-1/files
    /var/lib/pacman/local/linux-uvc-svn-238-1/install
So I decided to remove this folder and my problem was solved. Anyway I did some searches and nothing was found.

I upgraded to Maverick and now Time Machine will not connect to the external hard drive to back up files.  The external hard drive is a Western Digital "My Book Live" 2 TB.  How do I solve problem?

I also had problem accessing my WD MyBookLive after upgrading to Maverick.
To resolve the problem, I used  Connect To Server (Cmd K) to specify the IP address.
Then I enter a user id and password I created in the MyBookLive.
You can also verify that you have admin access to the MyBookLive using Safari or Chrome.
Just enter the MyBookLive IP address as the URL.

  • [Solved] Problems with xinit after upgrade xorg-xinit to 1.3.4-2 versi

    Hi,
Today I've upgraded my system with pacman -Syu and after upgrading xorg-xinit to 1.3.4-2 version I cannot use X.
When I run "xinit" then single white window appears but there is not any reaction for mouse or keyboard events.
I cannot even get back to VT by ctrl-alt-Fx or switch on/off NumLock. The only reaction on keyboard is issuing sysrq commands (ctrl-alt-sysrq E) which kills X.
I also discovered that running following command helps: "xinit -- vt12" - I mean it launches X and mouse and keyboard are working fine.
Is this a bug or I have misconfigured system?

I can confirm what appears to be the same problem on my two machines running Arch with systemd. On both machines, after upgrading the xorg-* packages yesterday, X would not start as it normally did: I'd get a blank screen with only a _ up in the top left corner. Pressing ctrl-alt-(number) had no effect, nor did anything else I tried. (I didn't try killing X like the OP did.) Googled and searched the forums yesterday to no avail; nothing I tried worked.
Caveat: In my case(s), I use 'startxfce4' instead of 'startx', so it might not be the exact issue. Trying 'startx' just took me to a default X installation setup, with three terminal windows and a clock. I'm sure anyone who's set up Arch for the first time has seen the same windows.
So in case it helps, here's what I did to get them working again:
    1. This morning, I checked the forums again and saw the thread at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=195107, which recommended changing a line in the file /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc from:
    exec /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp "$@"
    to
    exec /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp "$@" vt$XDG_VTNR
    2. I didn't want to change the default file, so I created a ~/.xserverrc file (note that it's in my home directory, so it will only work for my one user; if you want it to work for multiple users you'd follow step one exactly, as recommended in the other thread). I put the line
    exec /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp "$@" vt$XDG_VTNR
in that file, saved it, and fired up 'startxfce4'. Everything works perfectly.
Again, since I use XFCE I don't know if it's exactly the same issue you have, but at least this might help point you towards a solution.
    PS
In case you're wondering why I tried the solution in the other thread: The blank screen error only appears when I had
    needs_root_rights=yes
in /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config. When I changed it to 'no' (or removed the file entirely), I would get an error message like "xf860OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0", which is similar to the error message the OP on that thread would get.
    EDIT:
Actually, the more I think about it, the less I think this is the same problem. And the lack of details from the OP doesn't help. Still, it does appear that both of these problems concern passing a virtual terminal parameter to X, or failing to do so.

  • Best practices for installing and maintaining Haskell packages

Hey all, so 2014 has been a year of headaches with handling haskell packages on Arch (see previously). Everytime I do a system upgrade I seem to get dependency issues related to haskell packages. I've solved it many times by forcing removal of packages and reinstalling until things work without errors. There was a period where I didn't upgrade for almost 3 months because I didn't have the time to troubleshoot. Now that I have some free time I'd like to sort out the issue. I feel this might be an issue with how I'm handling the installation of haskell packages, maybe the repo order in my pacman config or something? I'm hoping to get some input on how others are handling haskell packages so its not always an issue whenever I try to keep the system up to date. My day to day requirements include xmonad, xmobar and pandoc, I also use aura as my AUR package manager.
Here is the repo section of my pacman.conf
    [core]

I could always brute force this by trying to force out some of the packages but I'd like to try and find a better solution than having to go through the this time-consuming process everytime I try to do a system upgrade. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I apologize for posting in the wrong section.
Just did a quick scan of the mailling list and found an easy work around with
    pacman -Syu --ignore 'haskell-*'
I'll try sending a message to the repo maintainers to get a better understanding of what's occuring here.
Thanks guys, sorry for not doing a thorough search of where to address the issue.

  • [SOLVED] Problem with ghc and xmonad

    Hi !
Just to give you the problem I encounter today when doing an upgrade (pacman -Syu) :
    Packages updates are : ghc-7.10.1-1 haskell-data-default-0.5.3-7  haskell-data-default-class-0.0.1-6 haskell-data-default-instances-base-0.0.1-8  haskell-data-default-instances-containers-0.0.1-6 haskell-data-default-instances-dlist-0.0.1-7  haskell-data-default-instances-old-locale-0.0.1-6  haskell-dlist-0.7.1.1-1 haskell-extensible-exceptions-0.1.1.4-9  haskell-mtl-2.2.1-2  haskell-old-locale-1.0.0.7-4  haskell-old-time-1.1.0.3-4 haskell-random-1.1-2  haskell-utf8-string-1-1  haskell-x11-1.6.1.2-3  haskell-x11-xft-0.3.1-13 xmonad-0.11.1-2  xmonad-contrib-0.11.4-2
Simple packages concerned : ghc / haskell* / xmonad
    Errors are :
    ==> Unregistering cabalized packages...
    unregistering data-default-instances-base-0.0.1 would break the following packages: xmonad-contrib-0.11.3 X11-xft-0.3.1 xmonad-0.11 X11-1.6.1.2 data-default-0.5.3 (ignoring)
    ==> Done.
    update ghc
==> All cabalized packages need to be reinstalled now.
    ghc-pkg: cannot find package data-default-class-0.0.1
    Warning: Cannot read data-default/data-default.haddock:
Interface file is of wrong version: data-default/data-default.haddock
    Skipping this interface.
All haskell* packages with same errors as above.
    And for xmonad :
    ghc-pkg: cannot find package xmonad-0.11
    ghc-pkg: cannot find package xmonad-contrib-0.11.3
    xmonad-contrib-0.11.4: Warning: haddock-interfaces: /usr/share/doc/x86_64-linux-ghc-7.10.1/xmonad-contrib-0.11.4/html/xmonad-contrib.haddock doesn't exist or isn't a file
Solution that worked for me :
Uninstall all packages depending on ghc  (but not ghc):
    pacman -R haskell-data-default haskell-data-default-class haskell-data-default-instances-base haskell-data-default-instances-containers haskell-data-default-instances-dlist haskell-data-default-instances-old-locale haskell-dlist haskell-extensible-exceptions haskell-mtl haskell-old-locale haskell-old-time haskell-random haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib
    Re-installation of ghc :
    pacman -S ghc
    Installation of all packages :
    pacman -S haskell-data-default haskell-data-default-class haskell-data-default-instances-base haskell-data-default-instances-containers haskell-data-default-instances-dlist haskell-data-default-instances-old-locale haskell-dlist haskell-extensible-exceptions haskell-mtl haskell-old-locale haskell-old-time haskell-random haskell-utf8-string haskell-x11 haskell-x11-xft xmonad xmonad-contrib
    This time without any errors.
Inspired by this topic explaining that all packages should be upgraded together.
Maybe there is an easier solution, but I give my contribution .

Yeah, just after those messages and without rebooting, I did an :
    xmonad --recompile
And errors occurs (module not found for example).
All xmonad packages depending on ghc were encountering the error : "command not executed" juste after the "cannot find package" while updating those packages.
You're right, I tried to just launch again an installation (with pacman -S) of those packages but got same "warning" and error. Then I uninstalled and installed it like I said to not get any errors nor warnings.

  • After safari 7.1.3 upgrade some features and links in websites won't work

I upgraded to safari 7.1.3 for mavericks. I have a macbook pro 13". Everything worked fine before, but after the upgrade some features and links in different websites just wont work.  what can I do? Also different pop ups like mackeeper keep coming up, and that didn't happen before.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
