[SOLVED] python2-parted (debian package)
Would really appreciate it if you could bring this to Arch. I've tried
deb2targz but got confused about the proper Arch directory structure. I
don't know enough about Python to do it justice.
Download: http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/python-parted
Wasted a day trying to line up the deps for Arch Linux ARM to virtualize,
these Debian packages are getting in the way, to put it mildly.

I did see pyparted, but after investigating python-parted
on packages.ubuntu.com, it appeared that python-parted depends upon
pyparted, which in Ubuntu land means who knows how or where or in
what weird ways Ubuntu expects python-parted to be there. In any case,
linaro-image-tools fails for a plethora of reasons and there's no way
I can ascertain whether pyparted made a difference.
Words of advice, If you're trying to follow the MDN guide to virtualize
ARM, you have to virtualize Ubuntu first.
I'm marking this thread solved: I bought a development board.

[SOLVED]How to build debian package source in Arch Linux?
I'm porting openssl for sh4 arch.
If I use Arch Linux PKGBUILD, it built failed. (I guess that's caused by there is no asm code for sh4 cpu).
So, I decide use debian's source.
But, is there any one know how to porting debian's package into Arch Linux?
I can apt-get source openssl from other machine. But I don't know what's the correct step to build it into Arch Linux' structure.
Solution: refer brebs's PKGBUILD hint.
Last edited by dlin (2013-02-26 09:44:16)The source is not hard to find. Look on Debian packages - each package has 2 files, the ".orig", and Debian's diff (which is sometimes not a diff, these days, thankfully because just having a simple "debian/patches" subdirectory available is a little bit easier for us).
Edit: Here ya go, convenient links:

[Solved] Debian Packaging/Repository
Hello. I have tried arch in the past, and LOVED it, but I had to leave for that which is unnecessary to explain. So lets get on with the matter at hand. I will be the repository manager for bAdGigabit (Hopefully, In a few months when we get going with it.). A manly iDevice centric community. We maintain a Repository for Cydia, The alternative to the App Store. A Place where you can modify your iPhone, outside the scope of an "App". (Google "barrel 2", "iconoclasm", "initsua", "bAdGB"). Cydia, is infact a front end for the APT front end to Dpkg. Thus, we have to have a Debian style Repository. To manage and Build it, I require the Debian and iphone-os Tool Chains. iphone-os Tool chain resides on the Iphone itself, no need to port it. As for the Debian Repository Tool Chain, That is a must. To be able to build deb's, manage deb's and keep the repository up to date on a daily, if not hourly, basis.
Infact I have a daily cron job set to search a directory on my computer, look for any .deb's and add them to the repository. This directory is also in the same directory my Dropbox folder, and allows me to update it from school if need be be "cp ~/Dropbox ~/Repo" (Not the actual command, just a stand in)
Now with this information in your grasp, let me ask the obvious question that you all know is comming. Is there a way to do this on Arch. To have the entire debian packaging system at my disposal, or am I stuck with Linux Mint (UGH).
Finnaly, failing that, Is there an Arch Linux-Like distribution that is based on Debian/Ubuntu available?
Last edited by NictraSavios (2011-05-29 18:04:44)I ran Gentoo for a while, I tend to build everything from source anyway, Building from source it routine for me. As for the Virtual machine, I find them very slow, and trying to run that Cron job would be very tricky. The script itself would need sleep times, Be bug filled, and subject to the crashes and whims of a Virtualbox.
Also, I only have 2GB of RAM. I do not like the idea of sharing that and killing performance.

[Solved] Python: Creating AUR package, binary can't find python module
I'm building a PKGBUILD for PyLotRO for the AUR and I'm using a Debian package. I tried just copying the content of the data.tar.gz to the filesystem assuming the directory structure is the same for the packages but apparently it is not. At least I'm figuring this is a filesystem problem but I don't know enough about python to be sure. When I start the program, this is what I'm getting:
pylotro
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/pylotro", line 31, in <module>
import PyLotROLauncher.Runner
ImportError: No module named PyLotROLauncher.Runner
I can see the file in the package that (I would think) would be the responsible module:
/usr/share/pyshared/PyLotROLauncher/Runner.py
So I'm thinking the python package must store modules in a different location?????
The package requires: 4suite, python, and pyqt. Any thoughts about what do I need to do here??

Yes, 'site-packages' is the correct place. Thank you Nezmer.

why you are using debian package rather that the source?
http://www.lotrolinux.com/PyLotRO-0.1.11.tar.bz2
cd $srcdir/PyLotRO-$pkgver
python setup.py install --root=$pkgdir || return 1
should be enough
Ah, beautiful. Wasn't aware before that python install script could define a destdir. Much better way of doing it. Thanks wonder.

Quite confusing statements. Below sHyLoCk recommends http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37738 on June 2 2010 and on June 27 he declares his recommended package obsolet and ask a TU to delete! The problem with the sHyLoCk package is there is not page setup option. So I installed this package, it has got the page setup menu, but once I click the option, the application dies with the following output (Maybe helpful to debug for the maintainer, I am not an expert):

Problem with Linus Ubuntu 7.04 and Oracle-Xe debian package
Hi all,
Installed Oracle 10g XE on my Ubuntu 7.04 using universal Debian Package : oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb. No problem during the installation . After finished the installation, I configured the database to use port 6000 and its password (Listener port set to default).
But when I tried to access the database home page using "http://127.0.0.1:6000/apex", it cannot be accessed. Then I tried to verify my database server using /etc/init.d/oracle-xe status and here's the output:(before it, I make user the database was realy online by typing /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start)

Wxpython 3.0 installs in python2.7/site-packages?!!
I just installed wxpython 3.0.x but it does not install in python3.4/site-packages but rather in python2.7/site-packages.
Of course when I "import wx" from python 3.0 it fails.
It this a bug or is there a reason and a work around to get wxpython working with python 3.0?
Thanks.
RScimmia,
Thanks for the reply.
I read in Stackoverflow that it does.
Confirmed wxpython works with python3.3. System spec: Windows 8.1 64bit. Python was a first time install on this new machine (so no previous versions exist). Objective: get matplotlib to work with their wx examples.
But maybe it is only for windows 8 at this time?
Perhaps we will see it in Linux soon.

[SOLVED] TeXLive: Installing font package and updating font map fails
I am trying to install the newtx package, which is available here at CTAN [1].
Since I don't want to mess with my TeXLive installation, I am trying to do that as a local user only.
So I placed the package into ~/texmf/tex/latex/. , ran texhash on texmf/ to update my local ls-R, and so far everything works nicely; for example, the .sty files in that package can be seen:
$ texhash texmf
texhash: Updating /home/$USER/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Done.
$ kpsewhich newtxmath.sty
/home/$USER/texmf/tex/latex/newtx/newtxmath.sty
Now, following the packages README [2], I need to update the my TeX font maps. Seems like 'updmap' is the right tool to do that for my user only:
$ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
Config file: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg"
dvips output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvips/updmap"
pdftex output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap"
dvipdfm output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvipdfm/updmap"
pxdvi output dir: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pxdvi/updmap"
/usr/bin/updmap is creating new map files
using the following configuration:
LW35 font names : URWkb
prefer outlines : true
texhash enabled : true
download standard fonts (dvips) : true
download standard fonts (pdftex) : true
create a mapfile for pxdvi : false
Scanning for LW35 support files [ 3 files]
Scanning for MixedMap entries [ 36 files]
Scanning for KanjiMap entries [ 0 files]
Scanning for Map entries [129 files]
ERROR: The following map file(s) couldn't be found:
ntx.map
Did you run mktexlsr?
You can delete non-existent map entries using the option
--syncwithtrees.
That's my problem: it can't find ntx.map, although I ran mktexlsr (which is texhash). So what to do?
1: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/newtx
2: http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/mirrors/CTAN … wtx/README
SOLUTION: The trick consists in placing all files into the necessary folders: *.map goes to fonts/map/newtx/, *.vf to fonts/vf/newtx/, and *.tfm to fonts/tfm/newtx/. Also, *.pfb needs to be placed in fonts/pfb/newtx/. *.enc files go to fonts/enc/newt/, and everything else remains in tex/latex/newtx/.

I just meant, can you find ntx.map yourself? If so, you could put it in a new directory or let tex know with the TEXINPUTS environment variable.
I really don't think that this makes a lot of sense as regards TeXlive; I have checked (with kpsewhich --var-value) if indeed all variables TEXMFHOME, TEXMFVAR, and TEXMFCONFIG are pointing to reasonable places, and indeed they do.
I have found this guide:
http://people.debian.org/~preining/TeX/ … n/ch4.html
Although it is Debian, I figure one can easily adapt it. So I tried that, and placed ntx.map in TEXMFHOME/fonts/map/$SYNTAX/newtx/ntx.map . I wasn't sure about $SYNTAX, so I just tried it with dvips. This time, $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map did actually work, and there were not errors:
$ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/janis/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
Config file: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg"

[SOLVED] First crack at packaging
After the first instance ever on Arch where a (admittedly very new) program has to be done by source, and not on the AUR. It got me wanting to know how to package things, although nothing so complex as the program I'm after yet, I want to crawl before walking.
I decided to have a crack at a smaller program - so chose a rouge like game I hadn't yet seen in the AUR - not that it matters even if it was.
I paste the PKGBUILD I made for it below - it's not finished, but the instructions to make and build the package are there:
I took a lot of "inspiration" from the ASCIIPortal PKGBUILD because, like this game "AQuestTooFar", in the source, there is no "make install" part of the process, only a "make" and then an executable is made that you run straight from wherever the source and everything was downloaded to. Theres also no Package() part. But it works and makes a package nonetheless. However after intallation with pacman, I get an error when I try and launch it from terminal, about not being able to load one of the files in the "Data" folder, which I've checked it included and is present in my package.
Hopefully some of you would be able to offer any feedback and advice, and any thoughts on this error. I'm a complete newb to doing things from source and then packaging them - Oh package managers, how you spoil us =].
Cheers,
Ben.

Yes, for example if your build only contains python code, then it runs on every platform which python runs on. That's when you can put arch=(any) into the PKGBUILD, because it runs everywhere.
Ben9250 wrote:
"install -Dm755 ${_realname} $pkgdir/opt/${_realname}/${_realname}"
"install -Dm644 readme.txt ${pkgdir}/usr/share/doc/${_realname}/README"
With these such lines, the -Dm755 part for example, it looks to me as though this is setting permissions, rather in a chmod kindof manner?
It's always good to set the permissions directly. Only that way you can be sure that the permissions will be right.
Ben9250 wrote:
for i in Data/*;do install -Dm644 "$i" ${pkgdir}/opt/${_realname}/"$i";done
This line is a loop, which loops around for every file in the Data folder, and copies them to the opt directory, essentially getting rid of the cp line?
Unfortunately something like install -Dm644 Data/* ${pkgdir}/opt/${_realname}/ doesn't work, so I solved it with a loop. But this line is basically doing the same as
cp -r Data/* ${pkgdir}/opt/${_realname}/
chmod 644 ${pkgdir}/opt/${_realname}/Data/*
but as I wrote before, the PKGBUILD I posted is how I would do it and I don't like to use cp in a build function, it's a matter of personal taste I guess.
Ben9250 wrote:
echo "#!/bin/sh - forgive me but I don't know about this line, echo is something to do with printing things, and theres someting going on with a shebang and sh, so something to do with bash?
"cd /opt/${_realname}"
"./${_realname}" > ${pkgdir}/usr/bin/${_realname}"
"chmod +x ${pkgdir}/usr/bin/${_realname}"
This looks to me like the answer to the softlinking?
Yes. If you use a softlink in /usr/bin which directs to /opt/${_realname}, it's kind of like the binary file is in /usr/bin. The binary expects the data directory in the same directory, but it's in /opt/${_realname}. That's why the ln -s method doesn't work. The shell script however first does cd into /opt/${_realname} and then executes the binary. That way everything's fine, because the data directory is in the same directory.

[SOLVED] How to patch package build (uzbl-git)
Hello,
I am experiencing a similar issue while building uzbl-git as reported here in the last few posts https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php? … 2&detail=1
When running "makepkg -s", I receive the following error:
creating /usr/lib/python3.2/site-packages/uzbl
error: could not create '/usr/lib/python3.2/site-packages/uzbl': Permission denied
make: *** [install-event-manager] Error 1
A user on the page posted a patch for this issue:

Could someone enlighten me on how this patch should be applied? I have looked over the patching page on the arch wiki, but am still not sure. Should those lines be added at lines 14,15 and 45,46,48 in the PKGBUILD, respectively, and should I then create the file makefile.patch in the same directory with the second part of the code? It is unclear to me as both source=() and md5sums=() are not anywhere in the PKGBUILD, so I can't remove these lines as the patch suggests if I am reading it correctly (I have no coding experience).
Someone posted an alternative patch, I am note sure if this is any easier to apply (https://github.com/keis/uzbl/commit/d4c … 6874dda0ea)
Thank you in advance.

Save them both in the same folder and run makepkg. After you save Makefile.patch run "md5sum Makefile.patch" and update the md5sums array in the PKGBUILD if you need to. -
Spotify Debian package for Jessie(testing)
The package that is on spotify repository is not working in Debian Jessie, this is happening because Debian Jessie has libssl1.0.0 and spotify works with libssl0.9.8. I removed the dependency for ssl from the package and i add to data folder the compilied files of libssl and libcrypto. I just sharing this package for other people that using Jessie and have the same problem, until the problem solved officialy from spotiy.
Download the package
http://83.212.107.72/spotify-client_0.9.4.183.g644e24e.428-1_amd64.deb
Install the spotify-client(is only for 64bit)
dpkg -i spotify-client_0.9.4.183.g644e24e.428-1_amd64.deb
The next command is needed if you have missing dependencies
sudo apt-get install -f (maybe you have to install dependencies manualy)Thanks alot for this solution miza, I recall having to fix this myself manually a few times and it's not fun. Just wanted to let you know that this was greatly appreciated.
And I also appreciate jooon replying to this thread and I'd also like to add that I very much appreciate a Linux client and I can deal with using workarounds like this and having the software slightly out of date, as long as it's still usable :)
Thanks again! -
How to solve problem with Installer Package for itunes
Hi! I'm attempting to upadte itunes so I can get the latest software for my iphone. It's a 3GS. Every time when ready to instal it says I have a problem with the installer package - something is missing. What can I do to solve this?
Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
START > CONTROL PANEL >
Add n Remove Programs(XP)
Programs n Features(Win7/Vista)
highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR, -
i already reserved app name as Ma_Test. But only one error showing "This package is using an app name that hasn't been reserved for this app: "Matest". how to solve?
Hello,
You need to make sure both names match exactly -
[SOLVED] Make Pacman cache packages installed with -U
When installing a package with -U, pacman doesn't cache packages as it does when installing with -S. Is there a way to change this behavior?
I read somewhere that specifying the package's full path and prepending "file://", as in "pacman -U file://path/to/package.pkg.tar.xz", but this often complains of an "invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)".
How can I make pacman always copy installed packages to the cache?
MOD EDIT: change 'closed' to 'solved' in title to avoid confusion
Last edited by fukawi2 (2013-07-06 13:09:21)You can't. This has been discussed on the bugtracker several times.

If you're building the packages yourself with makepkg, you can set PKGDEST to your cache in makepkg.conf. Otherwise you could write a small pacman wrapper that copies the package after installing it. -
[SOLVED] Confused about development packages
To build an embedded linux image using minifs utility, I need to install some development packages. The packages listed in the tutorial are named for Debian based distros, with the "-dev" suffix. Some of the listed packages are: libz-dev, libelf-dev, libelfg0-dev, libncurses-dev, etc.
I can't find these packages, and I'm a bit confused. I have read that these packages in Arch Linux have different suffixes denpending on the origin (-cvs, -git, etc.), but I can't find any packages with that suffixes. For example for ncurses:
$ pacman -Ss ncurses
core/ncurses 5.9-3 [instalado]
System V Release 4.0 curses emulation library
extra/cmus 2.4.3-1
A very feature-rich ncurses-based music player
extra/finch 2.10.1-1
A ncurses-based messaging client
extra/moc 20110528-5
An ncurses console audio player with support for the mp3, ogg, and wave
formats
extra/naim 0.11.8.3.2-2
An ncurses AOL Instant Messenger and IRC client.
extra/ncmpc 0.20-1
A ncurses (command line) interface for MPD
community/echat 0.04beta1-3
vypress compatible ncurses chat (can work without server)
community/ekg2 0.3.1-2
ncurses based Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, Tlen and IRC client
community/ncdu 1.8-1
Disk usage analyzer with an ncurses interface
community/rtorrent 0.8.9-2
Ncurses BitTorrent client based on libTorrent
community/ruby-ncurses 1.3.1-3
Module for interactive text console applications (ncurses)
community/sniffit 0.3.7.beta-11
very good packet sniffer for unix with ncurses interactive mode.
community/vifm 0.7.2-1
Ncurses based file manager with vi like keybindings
community/yacpi 3.0.1-3
ncurses-based acpi monitor.
No ncurses-cvs, ncurses-git, ncurses-svn or the like is found. How can I find development packages?
