[SOLVED] Synaptics vertical scroll width.

Every now and then when navigating a page i accidentally hit the scroll area, is it possible to change the width of the vertical scroll area? Not a big problem, arch is running beautifully and sort of stuck as to what to fiddle with next.
Man page doesn't seem to explain in simple english for me.
Thanks

This will tell you the current position of the right edge scroll area:
$ synclient -l | grep rightedge
RightEdge = 5200
If you want to make the scroll area smaller, move the position:
synclient RightEdge=5400
Adjust numbers for you machine of course.
If you want to make it permanent, create an xorg.conf:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "RightEdge" "5400"
EndSection
You can add other options like this as well.

  • [solved] Synaptics touchpad scrolling not working...

    I have the device set up as follows in xorg.conf
    Load "synaptics"
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Touchpad"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mouse0"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option "LeftEdge" "1700"
    Option "RightEdge" "5300"
    Option "TopEdge" "1700"
    Option "BottomEdge" "4200"
    Option "FingerLow" "25"

    Option "MaxSpeed" "0.48"
    Option "AccelFactor" "0.0100"
    Option "SHMConfig" "on"
    EndSection
    It works well, but I get no scrolling on the sides.  Any ideas?  I'm using KDE if that's of any relevance.
    Thanks,
    Shane

    and here's my entire Xorg.conf file.  You will see that I have been playing with it some... with little/no success.  Due to viewing the log I saw "Alps touchpad sets device to /dev/input/event6" so I tried changing my device to that with the same result, no scroll.

  • [solved] Synaptics driver scrolling issues

    My touchpad is acting up.  I was changing some settings, and as far as I can tell, they're set right, but the driver isn't working the way I want it to.  If I'm in the scroll area of my touchpad, the cursor moves up and down on the screen in a perfectly vertical fashion, but nothing scrolls.  Is there anything obviously wrong with my xorg.conf?

    Thank you for your reply   I flipped through the man page and threw in what you suggested, but for some reason, it only scrolls horizontally no matter what I do to xorg.conf (so far).  I even have no entry to scroll in this direction ... this is my xorg.conf right now

  • How can I widen the vertical scroll bar width in Firefox and Thunderbird?

    How can I widen the vertical scroll bar width in Firefox and Thunderbird?

    Hello,
    Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
    *Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
    *In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
    *In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
    *Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
    Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Lenovo Update of Synaptics UltraNav driver now makes it reset vertical scrolling speed

    After the last update of the Synaptics UltraNav Driver on my W510 to 16.1.1.0 through Lenovo Update it now keeps reseting the Vertical Scrolling speed (the lines per mouse wheel to 1) randomly when pluging/unplugging a mouse or docking/undocking or rebooting the machine.
    This is probably the 5th case of a Lenovo Update that regresses something on the system I've had for the past year and a half...

    I can confirm this problem.  It is very annoying to have to reset mouse scroll speed 5-10 times a day because I use my dock very often.  I have found no fix, whether temporary or permanent, to this problem.  I am using driver version 16.1xxxx (the latest "upgrade") and am very annoyed by this problem.  I hope Lenovo techs can help us.
    Have You tried removing the driver and installing an older version? The one that You know worked?

  • ScrollPane vertical scroll bar positioning

    I have a ScrollPane that holds a number of number of sprites. The sprites are like rows and I would like them to fill the width of the ScrollPane.
    My problem is that if there are not enough sprites to fill the vertical space of the ScrollPane, then no Scrollbar appears and there is a narrow gap left on the right side of the ScrollPane. If I make the sprites wider, when the vertical scroll bar does appear some of the sprite is cut off and the horizontal scroll bar appears (I never want the horizontal one to appear).
    Is there a way to move the scrollBars? or perhaps another way to solve my issue?

    assign your sp's horizontalScrollPolicy (and/or verticalScrollPolicy) to "off".

  • Data missing on vertical scroll with Advanced Data Grid

    Hi All,
    I have a n issue as stated below.
    AdvanceDataGrid with simple rows of text values.
    On vertical scroll and move upwards, the some of the values at the top goes blank intermittently.
    Have used itemRenderer to populate the values to that particluar column.
    To fix this issue, I have tried the fixes as below but its not working:
    1) super.data=value.
    2) Used validate.now().
    Can you please give me a solution to this?
    Thanks,
    IRK.

    Hi All,
    Setting the width explicitly, solved my issue.
    grpName.width = 120;

  • Vertical Scrolling and Horizontal Wrapping in a JEditorPane

    Hey guys,
    Some of you may recall my [post |http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5418688] from a couple weeks back. In it, I learned how to force (or appear to force) the text of a JEditorPane to grow from the bottom-up instead of top-down (picture the difference between how a chat window grows to how a word document grows). The solution (which solves my original problem perfectly) involves simply placing the JEditorPane into the South region of a JPanel.
    That was all fine and dandy, until I tried putting long lines of text into the JEditorPane. It scrolled vertically when it should have, but the text simply ran off the right side of the JEditorPane instead of wrapping (or showing a horizontal scrollbar).
    After a gross amount of googling, I finally came across this old [post |http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5318664] that seems to be related to my problem here. It hinted that I should set the width of the JPanel to match the width of the JScrollPane's Viewport. While that does indeed fix the problem with horizontal wrapping, it now creates a problem with the vertical scrolling (which works fine without the fix for horizontal wrapping)!
    I've tried setting the preferred height of the JPanel to just about everything I can think of: the height of the viewport, extremely large numbers, negative numbers, zero, itself, the height of the JEditorPane. But they all do the same thing: no vertical scrollbar ever pops up, even when the text is obviously too long to fit in the window.
    Here's an SSCCE demonstrating what I'm talking about:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class EditorPaneTest {
        public EditorPaneTest() {
             JFrame frame = new JFrame("EditorPane Test");
             frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
             JEditorPane textComponent = new JEditorPane();
             textComponent.setContentType("text/html");
             String text =
                  "This sentence should wrap and not cause the horiztonal scroll bar to display.<br/>"
                  + "<br/>This<br/>sentence<br/>should<br/>cause<br/>"
                  + "the<br/>vertical<br/>scroll<br/>bar<br/>to<br/>display.<br/>";
             textComponent.setText(text);
             JPanel panel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
             //the purpose of putting the JEditorPane in a JPanel
             //is to force it to the bottom with BorderLayout
             panel.add(textComponent, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
             JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(panel, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER);
             //this line enables wrapping
             //but disables vertical scrolling
             //(comment it out to switch)
             panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(scrollPane.getViewport().getWidth(), scrollPane.getViewport().getHeight()));
             frame.add(scrollPane);
             frame.setSize(100, 200);
             frame.setVisible(true);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            new EditorPaneTest();
    }As always, any pointers / suggestions / criticisms you can give me are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks again,
    Kevin

    You need create a custom panel that implements the Scrollable interface. The key method to override to give you the behaviour you desire is the getScrollTracksViewportWidth() to return "true". This effectively fixes the width of the JEditorPane to the width of the viewport to wrapping is done as expected.That does handle the wrapping and scrolling, but it breaks the original problem: keeping a JEditorPane at the bottom of a JPanel. Using the ScrollablePanel you posted, the JEditorPane now stays at the top of the Panel instead of growing from the bottom.
    To see what I'm talking about, check out this code (the only difference between this and the previous code is the addition of your suggestion):
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class EditorPaneTest {
        public EditorPaneTest() {
             JFrame frame = new JFrame("EditorPane Test");

             JEditorPane textComponent = new JEditorPane();
             textComponent.setContentType("text/html");

                  "This sentence should wrap and not cause the horiztonal scroll bar to display.<br/>"
                  + "<br/>This<br/>sentence<br/>should<br/>cause<br/>"
                  + "the<br/>vertical<br/>scroll<br/>bar<br/>to<br/>display.<br/>";
             textComponent.setText(text);
             ScrollablePanel panel = new ScrollablePanel();
             panel.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
             //the purpose of putting the JEditorPane in a JPanel
             //is to force it to the bottom with BorderLayout
             panel.add(textComponent, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
             JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(panel, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER);
             //this line enables wrapping
             //but disables vertical scrolling
             //(comment it out to switch)
            //panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(scrollPane.getViewport().getWidth(), scrollPane.getViewport().getHeight()));
             frame.add(scrollPane);
             frame.setSize(100, 200);
             frame.setVisible(true);
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            new EditorPaneTest();
         public class ScrollablePanel extends JPanel
              implements Scrollable
              public Dimension getPreferredScrollableViewportSize()
                   return getPreferredSize();
              public int getScrollableUnitIncrement(
                   Rectangle visibleRect, int orientation, int direction)
                   return 20;
              public int getScrollableBlockIncrement(
                   Rectangle visibleRect, int orientation, int direction)
                   return 60;
              public boolean getScrollableTracksViewportWidth()
                   return true;
              public boolean getScrollableTracksViewportHeight()
                   return false;
    }Resize the window to make it taller. The text should stay at the bottom of the window, but now it stays at the top. I tried using a BoxLayout on the ScrollablePanel instead, and adding a Box.createGlue( ) before adding the JEditorPane. But that didn't change anything.

  • Satellite A200 - Touchpad vertical scrolling not present

    I have just installed Windows 7 in my Toshiba A200 and downloaded drivers for the touch pad from Toshiba's site.
    However, the option related to enabling vertical scrolling is not present in the settings.
    Is there anything I can do to fix this?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    I have a similar problem.
    I just installed win 7 on my A200 Sat Pro.
    Now the touchpad icon appears in the Sys tray, but when I try to access the Synaptics buttons - tapping etc,
    all that is displayed in thee revelant page is button functions.
    In other words I cannot disable the tapping function - nor access the scrolling functions etc.
    Also, in device management - the TP shows up as a pointing device on ps/2 port 2 or something.
    I originally got this A200 model as an XP model - with alot of bells and whistles from Toshiba - fancy wireless detectors etc.
    All that software and the drivers comes on a factory reset DVD that re-installs xp.
    However - the factory DVD is unexplorable (its propriety compressed) for specific drivers ie the original touchpad driver which I am presuming is the mysterious Alps driver.
    I have downloaded and tried all of synaptics drivers.
    I have downloaded and tried all of the touchpad drivers referenced in the model specific search engine on this site for the A200 model - which incidentally doesnt turn up the mysterious Alps driver.
    After reading this thread - I have scoured on the manual search through pages of ALPs drivers for a reliable reference to the A200 model>
    Oh, and I almost forgot, I downloaded and installed and ran the Toshiba Win 7 driver update software.This was the first thing I did.
    @MasterG
    I'm now wondering if an Alps driver referenced to the L500 series - as you mention, might solve the problem.
    So - I'm going to look for that now and try it.
    Regards
    Austosh.

    Not sure if this is in the right section but...
    I'm have issues with my laptop's vertical scrolling, and what's worse is that i can't find a way to fix it at all, here's what happens:
    I know exactly what to do, but the final step is not working..
    Whenever i try to check the vertical scroll from my computer, it does not check, it kinda blinks and stays unchecked, and i cannot find a solution to this at all, it is very frustrating , can anyone help?
    This question was solved.

    Look on the bottom of the laptop or inside the battery bay for a model number. Your synaptics driver is installed. I can tell by the red icon on the mouse properties. You might need a driver update. Your driver is from May, 2010. Windows 7? 64 bit?
    Here is a much newer synaptics driver:

  • [Solved]Synaptics Touchpad not working at all on Fujitsu Siemens UH552

    Hi,
    I have just installed Arch on my Fujitsu Siemens UH552 laptop. Everything works except for the touchpad which seems to get loaded by Xorg, but when in X it doesn't work. I have tried both using /dev/input/event* and /dev/input/mouse0 as device paths, neither works.
    xf86-input-evdev and xf86-input-synaptics are installed.
    I have tried running both with the default 10-evdev.conf, with 10-synaptics.conf, with both, and without both.

    psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
    Last edited by flako (2012-11-08 09:44:59)

    I have tried doing that with both linux mint, and now fedora live usb. Neither one loads the touchpad correctly.  So yeah, our problems weren't really related
    Anyway, I tried looking into the
    psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout
    messages, and tried running psmouse proto (defined in /etc/modprobe.conf/psmouse.conf) as both raw and imps as per https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s … ion/206950 Unfortunately, that didn't solve anything. Using the raw setting meant that the touchpad wasn't loaded at all (as in not appearing in the Xorg.log at all).
    The laptop is quite new, but at the same time what i figured from the touchpad vendor & product ID, the touchpad itself isn't. So it should technically work. Before installing arch i booted into windows to see if everything worked, and found no issues with the touchpad. So I have ruled out any hardware errors. Maybe its just the Fn-key that doesn't work yet in Linux? But that doesn't explain the "psmouse serio1: bad data from KBC - timeout" Any pointers to where I should look/ what commands I should run to delve deeper into this issue?

  • Is there a way to vertically scroll records in an interactive report

    Hi, I have an interactive report which returns over 100,000 records. Currently, to move through these records one must press the pagination icon (x - y of z records).
    Is there a way to have a vertical scroll bar?
    this used to be accomplished in SQL reports with <div style="overflow: auto; height: 500px;width: 1000px;"> set in the header and pagination turned off.
    thanks, Karen

    just to clarify, I am able to add the region header of *' div style=overflow: auto; height: 400px;* to a regular SQL report to have it scroll...but just unable to do so for an interactive reportl. thanks again.

  • [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

    Hi everyone, i updated my system yesterday to the new xorg server (1.11.1-2). Everything works except for the two finger scrolling on my synaptics touchpad.
    There is some info:
    Kernel:  3.0.6-2 (stock)
    Synaptics Touchpad driver: 1.5.0-1 (lastest)
    Right side scrolling works fine, two or three finger tapping doesn't work either.
    Here's my Xorg.log:

  • Disable Vertical scroll but enable Page down in Table control for BDC

    Hello All
    In my 4.6C sysem , i had enabled Scroll bar in table control by  populating TABC-lines = <No of records>...Then when i try to capture the BDC recording of this , then the scrolling event is not captured in BDC , as we all know.....
    So i put few buttons on the application bar as NEXT PAGE, NEXT LINE , PREV PAGE n PREV LINE...and i did the scrolling by writing the code manually in PAI...and that is getting captured in BDC so my problem is partially solved...
    Now as u see..i have default working Scroll bar on my T.C..also i have my buttons on the application bar....i want to get rid of the vertical scrolling....so now i am NOT populating the TABC-lines field...But as soon as i do this , my  buttons stopped also working...Any idea how to get rid of this ?
    In short when i don't write : TABC-lines = no_of_records .....to remove vertical scroling.......my manual scrolling mechanism also getting disabled..
    Is it possible to remove only vertical scrolling ?
    Thanks in advance .
    Nilesh

  • Text editing window expands instead of creating vertical scroll bar

    In the last few days, I have noticed that when I try to edit or post to Wordpress.com the vertical scroll bar no longer appears on the text editing box. Instead the box just gets progressively larger which makes it very difficult to get to other items on the WordPress editing screen, such as tags and categories. This problem seems to have arisen during the v31.0 auto-upgrade. Is anybody else having this issue and what steps can I take to solve it? (FYI, I tried modifying the setting described in another response about a similar issue using the about:config screen, with no success.)

    I don't know whether your dashboard has the "Visual" and "Text" buttons, but I believe the Visual uses CKEditor or another WYSIWYG editor and the Text editor might be a simpler design. Are both affected?
    I searched around to see whether I could find Wordpress.com support threads or other stories about it and I can't. So I'll fall back on some general suggestions:
    When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * (menu bar) Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    In the dialog that opens, you can remove WordPress.com cookies without affecting other sites.
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
    To rule out extensions as a possible culprit, could you try the site in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, some advanced features, and some custom settings. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    Note: Flash and other plugins still run
    After Firefox closes, a small dialog should appear: click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?
