[SOLVED] ttf-oxygen isn't then is then isn't a dependency

I installed oxygen today, which had ttf-oxygen as a dependency. I almost immediately uninstalled oxygen with -Rs, but pacman didn't uninstall ttf-oxygen. I checked, and suddenly ttf-oxygen was marked as a dependency of other packages. Regardless, I then uninstalled ttf-oxygen manually. This worked fine (I think pacman normally complains if you attempt to uninstall required dependencies?). What is going on here?
Some lines omitted:
$ sudo pacman -S oxygen
Packages (3) frameworkintegration-5.6.0-1 ttf-oxygen-1:5.2.0-1 oxygen-5.2.0-1
(1/3) installing ttf-oxygen
$ sudo pacman -Rs oxygen
Packages (2) frameworkintegration-5.6.0-1 oxygen-5.2.0-1
$ pacman -Qi ttf-oxygen
Required By : backintime chromium kdebase-workspace mplayer steam
Install Reason : Installed as a dependency for another package
$ sudo pacman -Rs ttf-oxygen
(1/1) removing ttf-oxygen

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think you're right. And that karol was right about this being an opt-depend issue.
Due to some change in pacman or some package's opt-depends recently, my orphan removal alias
pacman -Rsn $(pacman -Qqtd)
didn't remove something it always had in the past (related to makedeps of an AUR package). I eventually figured out I had to add an extra -t
pacman -Rsn $(pacman -Qqttd)
to get it to remove one of the packages which was an opt-depend of an otherwise unrelated package I have installed.
Also, the bit of pacman(8) I quoted is probably out of date. It's from archlinux.org, but was last updated in 2013...

  • [SOLVED] X failed to start, then cannot login in tty

Recently I changed the X's monitor setting at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf. Seems that there is a wrong setting, and the X failed to start. So when booting, it says: INIT: Id 'x' respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes. So I changed to tty2 (alt-F2) and input my usual username and password, but checkpassword always says that my password is wrong.
So which username and password should I use? Or how to login to my computer?
The login manager is SLiM, DE is openbox + tint2, tty is fgetty (not agetty).

I guess the system should automatically goes to runlevel 3 (or other runlevel) in case runlevel 5 goes error or something. But it doesn't (Or I'm wrong?).
Well, in case you couldn't even as root, I had supposed you'd boot with your Arch live cd anyway, chroot properly into your system then, and edit /etc/inittab to runlevel 3. You'd probably be able to login afterwards and do startx from console, see what happens and check the log for errors.
When booting form cd you can cat it e.g. in /mnt/var/log/Xorg.0.log after mounting btw. -- Maybe there's an alternative way to edit the command line at boot as well, haven't looked for that yet. If there is, you might put that option into the bootloader's config of Arch's fallback kernel installation, so you could choose at startup.
At least to my knowledge once you configured your system to boot graphically (say, runlevel 5), there's no "fallback mode" into rl3. But what you can also do is to make your display manager able to alternatively get you into console (if possible; I know that's the case for cdm).
However, if you think your problem is now fixed, you should edit the header of your first post and add [SOLVED].

The /tmp filesystem is mounted in RAM and limited to half the amount of total memory. If this is your issue then either change the download location to somewhere else or adjust your tmpfs settings.
    I have changed
    upload_tmp_dir = /srv/temp
    open_basedir = /srv/http/:/home/:/tmp/:/usr/share/pear/:/usr/share/webapps/:/srv/temp

Primusrun has overhead in copying frames from the virtual display to the actual display. You have a very low end Nvidia card and this overhead decimates performance so much the whole thing ends up slower than using the Intel GPU which has no such overhead. Primusrun is still basically a hack, not a proper Optimus solution.
It's also possible that because glxspheres is so simple, this overhead plays a much bigger role than with something more demanding of the GPU. Try a proper demo or an actual game, you might see a different picture then.

  • [Solved] No oxygen GUI style, both in systemsettings and qtconfig

I probably messed up something with qtcurve but I'm not sure. Anyway, I can see no oxygen style in systemsettings and qtconfig. I tried
    ln -s /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/ /usr/lib/qt/plugins/styles
but it didn't help, so i reverted previous state, which is:
    [root@linux localauthority]# ls /usr/lib/kde4/plugins/styles/
    oxygen.so phasestyle.so qtcurve.so
    [root@linux localauthority]# ls /usr/lib/qt/plugins/styles
ls: no access to /usr/lib/qt/plugins/styles: No such file or directory
    I also tried
    kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
and tried to reinstall oxygen-icons, kdebase-lib and kdebase-plasma packages. Then I blindly renamed /home/mk/.kde4/share/config/gtkrc and gtkrc-2.0, seems it makes no difference for GTK apps.
Any ideas how to revert it to a virgin state?

  • Initial workflow runs on WFE, then APP server, loses dependency?

I'm still having issues with a WFE deployment to a farm with a WFE, an APP, and a SQL server. I'm trying to get my head around it. Workflow timer jobs run on the APP server, in accordance with Microsoft recommendations.
    User adds a list item
When he / she submits their request, an Update workflow is kicked off -
this part of the workflow I believe is still running on WFE because I see my printed messages in the ULS logs on the WFE
If the request to update a list item is approved, the workflow kicks off a timer job.
The SharePoint timer service then picks up the job on the APP server - I know this because I see my printed messages on the APP server instead of WFE.
Submitted request passed on to a database on a different server.
Getting the right solution has been challenging as I've been struggling to ask the right questions. I've confirmed that the SharePoint 2010 Timer Job is started on both servers with same account. I'm thinking that the wsp deploys something to the WFE,
but not to the APP server. For #5 to happen, that something needs to live on the WFE (unless I want to change the service configuration and add Workflow Timer Jobs on both servers.)
I'm thinking that the solution should be to manually add whatever those files are deployed via the wsp to the APP server as well.
    Scott

Best practice states that Foundation Web runs on every server in the farm, as solutions must be built around the exception of not running Foundation Web on particular servers. You're encountering that issue, the solution wasn't built to accommodate for
this type of architecture. There is little reason to not run Foundation Web on all servers, including performance.

  • [SOLVED] ttf-ms-win8 installation issues -- font verification failing

When I try to install the ttf-ms-win8 font package, using fonts I've copied from my Windows 8 installation, the build fails, with the issue being "One or more files did not pass the validity check". The fonts that failed the validity check are "calabril.ttf" and "calibrili.ttf", both of which I copied directly from my Windows 8 install.
I've tried just commenting them out in the PKGBUILD but I couldn't find the other references to it that apparently exist because the install later failed because those files weren't present.
I've looked for the fonts online to see if maybe one of those versions will work, but so far, no luck. I don't mind not having those two fonts, I just want the whole thing to build.
Edit: I tried copying them from another one of my Windows 8 installations, validity check also failed on them. So I think my best course of action would be to just remove calibril and calibrili from the install.
Edit2: I just found the corresponding md5sums from the end of the file and commented them out. Package installed fine!

I've just upgraded my system (I do it once a weak), but something happend with the bluetooth system. My headset (Arctic P311) is not working anymore. I use Blueman to connect as audio host (or audio sink, don't know wich is the correct translation from my language - connection as headset has never worked), but I can't make it work. Sometimes it connects, but has no audio output. It isn't showing up in the audio device list. I tried gnome-bluetooth, but bluetooth-applet just won't start, it shows only this message:
(bluetooth-applet:18463): Bluetooth-WARNING **: Could not open RFKILL control device, please verify your installation.
    Today morning everything was fine.
If I try to connect it as audio host with blueman-manager, I get this message if it connects:
    kernel: [ 2070.380198] input: 00:1A:7D:D0:98:00 as /devices/virtual/input/input27
    and this if it doesn't:
    bluetoothd[1064]: Host is down (112)
    Why input device?
If I try to connect as headset, I get this:
bluetoothd[1064]: Endpoint replied with an error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod
There is no problem with the headset, it's working properly with a mobile.
    What should I do?

I've just found another solution - add the line
    Enable=Socket
in [General] section in /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf. Works with bluez 4.98 (meanwhile the package is flagged out of date).
    It worked! Thanks!
But I need to question, won't this file regenerated after some updates?

  • [SOLVED] Space that isn't there?

I have come across an odd problem which refuses to be solved, and am afraid to reboot because I am pretty sure it won't come back up.
There seems to be missing space on my hard drive. I found that both everything.log and kernel.log were taking over 7GBs of space, and deleted them. My filesystem STILL shows that it is full though. I used pcmanfm to total up the amount of space everything was taking (excluding the /home directory since it is a separate partition), and it said I had only 5GBs of data on it. The total size of my partition is 18GBs.
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? here is my fstab, in case it helps:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
    none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
    #/dev/cdrom /media/cd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    #/dev/dvd /media/dvd auto ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    #/dev/fd0 /media/fl auto user,noauto 0 0
    /dev/sda1 / ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda2 /home ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda3 swap swap defaults 0 0

I just realized my cats unplugged my external hard drive, so the disk was unplugged without being unmounted first. That is why it is reporting that way.
running du -sh /* reveals nothing, also. The largest folders, it tells me, are /usr and /var, with 2.4 and 1.5GBs, respectively. I had already taken care of the 7GB logs in /var, so that is why it is no longer a problem. Here is the full output (minus the permission denied stuff), remember that /home is on a different partition:
    4.5M /bin
    17M /boot
    136K /dev
    3.2M /etc
    23G /home
    80M /lib
    16K /lost+found
    20K /media
    4.0K /mnt
    407M /opt
    0 /proc
    4.0K /root
    13M /sbin
    12K /srv
    0 /sys
    1.5M /tmp
    2.4G /usr
    1.5G /var

  • [Solved] Windows key isn't Super_L/Mod4 anymore

After a recent update, my Windows key wouldn't work anymore, meaning it doesn't procude my regular Fluxbox bindings. Following this nice wiki: http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php?title=Mod4
I found out that Mod isn't set anymore:
    zsh/3 1572 % xmodmap
xmodmap: up to 2 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):
    shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
    lock Caps_Lock (0x42)
    control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
    mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x71)
    mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
    mod3
    mod4
    mod5 Scroll_Lock (0x4e)
    So I tried
    xmodmap -e 'add mod4 = Super_L'
    and
    xmodmap -e 'keycode 115 = Super_L'
As it states on the wiki, but neither of them helped, xmodmap -pm still shows the same emptiness for Mod4. I also created an .Xmodmap, put the key assignments in there and loaded it, but it still wouldn't work. Any suggestions?
Btw.: xev output for the windows key is this:
KeyRelease event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001,
    root 0x87, subw 0x0, time 53871339, (170,38), root:(430,312),
    state 0x10, keycode 115 (keysym 0xffeb, Super_L), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
    XFilterEvent returns: False

Alright, sorry. That was a little premature, a simple restart X helped...
I'll go stand in that corner over there now.

  • How to solve ''This device isn't eligible for the requested build''

I wanted to downgrade my mom's iphone from ios 8 to 7. When I try to restore it this error message comes out. I heard it can be fixed by going to terminal and editing the ''gs.apple'' host file. But when I go in Terminal there's no file. I don't have it. What am I suppose to do?

I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums.

  • [SOLVED] My CD isn't recognised.

    Hi, all.
Just realised, my CD entry in /etc/fstab is hashed-out (#).  As you'd expect, I can't read a music CD.  Is this usual in Arch?  Does Arch handle Cd's differently?
BTW, I'm using xfce, if that has any relevance in this instance.
    Many thanks,
    Chris.

"Can't read a music CD", do you mean the OS cannot see the audio CD...or that a specific music player cannot....or both?
For example, under KDEmod Arch, Arch does not see the CD in file manager, Amarok does not see it, but KsCD does.
    Why?
Because Arch does not mount CDs, because Amarok is no longer written with audio CD playback ability, but KsCD can and does handle it fine.
You see why this gets complicated.
