[SOLVED] urxvt not using locale

Help! I am stuck here.
For the life of me I cannot find a reason why urxvt won't use my locale.
Output of locale
LANG=en_DK.utf8
LC_CTYPE="en_DK.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_DK.utf8"
LC_TIME="en_DK.utf8"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="en_DK.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_DK.utf8"
LC_PAPER="en_DK.utf8"
LC_NAME="en_DK.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_DK.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_DK.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_DK.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_DK.utf8"
LC_ALL=
Output of locale -a
C
POSIX
en_DK
en_DK.iso88591
en_DK.utf8
en_US
en_US.iso88591
en_US.utf8
Whenever I try to start urxvt from a(nother) terminal I get
urxvt: the locale is not supported by Xlib, working without locale support.
I have tried using both en_DK.utf8 and en_US.utf8. Neither works for me. (I would prefer en_DK.utf8)
If I set the locale to C, then I don't get the error message. However I also don't get the filenames displayed correctly then.
Anyone know what I can do?
I am using lxde with openbox. Don't know if that makes a difference.
I have spend the last 4 hours looking for a solution to this. Google turns up a lot of results, but they all (more or less) just tell me to make sure my locale is correct!? The word frustrating comes to mind
EDIT: Somehow urxvt is using my locale for showing the files correctly, but not for input from the keyboard. The keys that normally produce æ, ø and å (danish chars) just doesn't do anything at all?
EDIT2: Just in case someone stumbles upon this, here is what I decided to do. I didn't exactly solve the problem, but found another terminal to use instead.
What I actually was trying to do was getting yeahconsole to work. I really liked using yakuake in kde, but after deciding to use lxde didn't want to pull in the complete QT library. yeahconsole however which is actually a wrapper for xterm/urxvt didn't want to behave the way I wanted it to. Well the truth is urxvt didn't want to work the way I wanted it to
Fortunately for my nerves I found another quake like terminal called stjerm. This one works great (until now...). It has tabs and recognizes my locale setting. It's not in the official repos, but is easily installed from AUR.
EDIT3: OK. This is kind of annoying. Now I don't need the solution any more and of course now I have found it
To make urxvt use my locale correctly I must set it as follows: (note the LC_CTYPE setting)
LANG=en_DK.utf8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_DK.utf8"
LC_TIME="en_DK.utf8"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="en_DK.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_DK.utf8"
LC_PAPER="en_DK.utf8"
LC_NAME="en_DK.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_DK.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_DK.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_DK.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_DK.utf8"
LC_ALL=
I mark this topic as solved.

Move 'exec awesome' to the bottom of your ~/.xinitrc.

  • Some Clients not using Local Distribution Point

    I have a new physcial site that we are wanting to put the SCCM client on the workstations. The local DP has been setup and the SCCM 2012 config settings for the new site have been made. I did a manual push to 5 workstations and monitored the ccmsetup.log.
    I had some clients using the local DP for the client install and some went back across the WAN to the MP to get the files. The ones that come back across the WAN to the MP have this in their log shown below. It does not appear to be boundary related or
    Client OS as they are in the same subnet that is configured and have both xp and win7 working and not working. I found a few others have had this issue come up searching the web, but none of solutions helped in my situation. The client is installing on
    all of the workstations I have manually pushed it to. I just can't figure out why some are not using the local DP and YES I have verified that the ones not using the local DP are in the same boundary group as the ones that do.

    Single forest with mutiple child domains. SCCM is in one child domain trying to get this other child domain's workstations as clients. We have the same setup for another child domain and it worked without any issues.
    The IIS log file in C:\inetpub\logs\logfiles\w3svc1 only shows the successful installs. There are no entries about any failures in the log to correlate unfortunately. All failures have been XP SP3 machines except for one Win7 pc and all successes have been
    Win7 except for one xp machine.
    You wouldn't think it is network related because some workstations can access the DP fine.
    It's not boundaries because the successes and failures are all sharing the same subnet that is configured.
    Wasn't MSI 4.5 required for SCCM 2012 clients?

  • JDev 10.1.3.4 on Vista 64 bit not using local timezone setting

    When I try to get the current date by doing a new java.util.Date() I get the date and time but its not in my local timezone. I am in Eastern Time zone US & Canada which is GMT - 5.00. JDev for some reason keeps giving the time without subtracting 5 hours from GMT . So if now is 13.41pm its saying it is 18.41pm. I was using jdk 1.5, now using 1.6 and same problem. I tried it on Eclipse and everything works fine. I tried compiling and running a small program without JDev, using the jdks, and all is well. This must be something with Jdev.
    Anyone else have the same problem?

    Hi Thanassis,
    not sure what has changed between 10.1.3.3 and 10.1.3.4 in that area;
    but, without knowing Steve's sample in depth, I would say that the error you get in 10.1.3.4 is expected as the current row has changed in your Web Container.
    To avoid the JBO-35007, you can change the StateValidation on the iterator
        <iterator ...  StateValidation="false"/> That's the preferred option when only one (or a few) iterator causes the error
    This won't be possible however if the code is generic and involves all iterators (as in CustomViewObjectImpl).
    Then you have to change the property EnableTokenValidation on the page definition:
        <pageDefinition ...  EnableTokenValidation="false"> I'm currently working on other JBO-35007 errors reported by customers and I'm waiting for feedback from development about the Token Validation.
    I'll let you know as soon as I get more news.
    Regards,
    Didier.

  • Why not using LOCALs in LOOPs ?

    Why avoiding LOCALs in LOOPs? (I saw some posts that suggest it).
    In my case, I have one button (Stop) and I want to be able to stop the application along 3 different independent loops. How can I do it without locals ?
    Thanks

    The use of a sequence you describe here is ok but I think the goal here is to initialize the local to a known state BEFORE you start reading it in the loops. After the VI has stopped there is no need to set the local false again. Cleanup is usually a waste of time since the VI is stopped anyway. Also for initializing a single local just follow the example attached...

    defhstatus "^Et"
    in my .screenrc. Maybe there's something you like even better, e.g. there's also "^EH" which I used to use. Just checkout what can be done with defhstatus, you'll find what you want.

  • Building an application that does not use any local program files or libraries

    I need to build an application that will not use any local libraries or LabView program files(even if LabView is installed on the PC). I also am curious if anyone knows if there is a way to debug such an application(in it's compiled state).
    Any help on these topics would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
    I am unclear on what you are trying to accomplish here. As the previous poster mentioned, if you enable debugging when building your application, you can remotely connect and probe the block diagram of the running executable. Executables use the run-time engine but could also access drivers or other run-times if using a specialized toolkit/module. This all depends on your application.

    What I've read, there should be /usr/share/fonts/local/* too in that list.
    I run my window manager, dwm with startx and ~/.xinitrc has these lines before dwm:
    xset +fp /usr/share/fonts/local
    xset fp rehash
    I have also tried to include those with xorg.conf:
    $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Section "Files"
    FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/local/"
    EndSection
    I'm using Ubuntu's patched versions of freetype, fontconfig and cairo if that has anything to do with my problem:
    freetype2-ubuntu fontconfig-ubuntu cairo-ubuntu
    Xft fonts work fine with urxvt, but bitmaps don't. What am I missing?

    There isn't a "tamsynu" family in the tamsyn-font package.  You're trying to use a font that doesn't exist on your machine.
    $ xlsfonts -fn "-*-tamsynu-*"
    xlsfonts: pattern "-*-tamsynu-*" unmatched
    $ xlsfonts -fn "-*-tamsyn-*"
    -misc-tamsyn-bold-r-normal--0-0-100-100-c-0-iso8859-1
    -misc-tamsyn-bold-r-normal--12-87-100-100-c-60-iso8859-1
    << And more >>
    The syntax for the resource is fine, but it is case-sensitive.  The class is 'URxvt', an instance would be 'urxvt'.
    This should be good for a first attempt at the proper size:
    urxvt.font: -misc-tamsyn-medium-r-normal--14-101-100-100-c-70-iso8859-1
    urxvt.boldFont: -misc-tamsyn-bold-r-normal--14-101-100-100-c-70-iso8859-1
    That's about equal to DejaVu Sans Mono at 8 points.
    If you have rebuilt your font cache, either by restarting X or running 'fc-cache -f', and you want to use Xft, then this is equivalent (Tamsyn does not use anti-aliasing):
    urxvt.font: xft:Tamsyn:style=Regular:size=10.1
    urxvt.boldFont: xft:Tamsyn:style=Bold:size=10.1

  • Using local/testing server with cs5 inserting images look fine in the split screen but do not show

    Hi
    If I open example: header.php and insert any photo jpeg/.html ecs i can see the images in the split screen but not in the browser if i save then refresh. I am able to make any change to the code ecs. and they are reflected just fine. I have tried this with my fireworks images .html and when that did not work i tried a strait jpeg off the desktop. This all did not work. I have deleted the local server then step by step created a new one via devnet instruction. This did not work! everything looks fine i even tried in 3 sep browsers with 0 luck....There is no remote server connected at this time because i am making a child theme for my current site. After all changes are done we will the ftp the word press files to site and change.
    Ps i even started over from scratch with 0 positive affects....

    After a lot of pain!!!!!!! the issue is fixed lol After 3 weeks I have overlooked the obvious !!! so the simple fix was the path of the image. Yes i feel stupid 10 years in lol....
    Apparently dreamweaver cs 5 will not use the full path when inserting images into the page example: If you drag the image out of your assets folder or however you do it, DW will give you a path like this <img src="images/glass.jpg" width="800" height="729"> This is not the full path and when your pist!!! you cant see things like that ;( so the image path should look like this:
    <img src="wp-content/themes/adszoom/images/glass.jpg" width="800" height="729">
    also in the html files example of bad then good!

  • How to Reset Password of User while not connected to Domain using Local Admin Account

    How to Reset Password of User while not connected to the Domain using Local Admin Account
    (I have the use of a local admin account), and I want to help a user reset their password who has logged in the PC and had their credentials cached, but forgot this password.
    In Local Admin Account :
    When I go to Control Panel, users, users, manager user ; I cannot see any users in this window except the local admin account, and, so I cannot reset a user password this way.
    When I go to lusrmgr.msc, then users ; the local admin account will display only.
    If I go to command prompt and type "net user", this will not display any users who have logged in to the computer, and so I cannot use "net user" to reset a password.
    I don't want to use any disks, 3rd party programs, or create a VPN connection to the domain.  I just want to help a user who calls in and forgets their password.

    Hello Keith,
    I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to better understand how I could change the domain password while not on the network. What I'm getting from your post is that you:
    1. Create a local user account (not a domain user)
    2. Login with that local user account
    3. Connect to the VPN while logged in as a local user
    4. Log out of the local account and login with the domain credentials
    Now, my question is based on the assumption that the password created on the local account is the same password that one will use to login to the domain account? Also, is the local user account the same as the domain account?
    Thanking you in advance!

  • Startup error: this version is not correctly localized.  Use the English version.

    I have Itunes running on Win7 ;  its my home laptop (lenovo G770).  A PC-tech cleaned up my registry and shrank my bloated list of startup programs.  After that was done, my laptop booted better.  However, iTunes won't start: the message is "This version of iTunes has not be correctly localized for this language.  Please use the English version."
    How can I fix that?  Sure I can reinstall new client (iTunes) over top of my old iTunes, but is there anything simpler?

    Hey there theozt,
    It sounds like you are getting an error message saying that iTunes is not correctly localized for this language. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article, named:
    iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
    Start with this step, and work your way down the article as needed:
    Start iTunes in Safe Mode
    Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
    Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
    Click Continue.
    See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
    If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

    It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

    Yes, the iPhone 5S is a global phone. However, Sprint will only unlock phones for use on GSM networks outside of the U.S. In the U.S., that phone can only be used on Sprint's network.
